0:11
today number two of my route 66
0:16
adventure starting from Santa Monica
0:19
California
0:26
the rocket into
0:26
go to the state line to see what
0:29
join you this liquor store mural has
0:33
some very dangerous creatures a snake a
0:37
scorpion Lula this guy he means business
0:41
currently standing in needles making our
0:45
way straight across through top rock
0:48
hopefully to open kingman and beyond
0:52
I should also once again mention that my
0:54
good friend Jacob the carpetbagger is
0:55
taking this journey along with me rides
0:58
you all the way across 66 they're gonna
1:00
we're gonna weather out the Sears Tower
1:02
the me and you will be king and queen of
1:04
Chicago fire ants very dangerous by
1:22
crossing that waterway the Colorado
1:24
River I am now in Arizona in fact
1:28
there's the sign or at least a portion
1:31
of what was a sign a lot of long
1:34
stretches between towns not a lot to
1:37
look at except for mountains and
1:38
tumbleweeds the man it is it is
1:42
beautiful just noticed there is an array
1:46
of stacked burned rocks lots of them not
1:52
just one stack but several of them
1:55
scattered through the desert piled up
2:00
but the coloration looks as if a fire
2:03
came through here at one time I know in
2:06
certain situations these are placed in
2:08
different areas as a sign of respect and
2:11
there's a backstory to it however I
2:13
think in this spot it could just be
2:16
tourists building what they consider to
2:19
be a desert version of a snowman it
2:22
appears as if over the next eight miles
2:25
we're gonna see some wild burros
2:29
some donkeys gotta jump out real quick
2:32
to confirm what I mentioned earlier see
2:36
a desert snowman just a few minutes away
2:41
from a step back in time Oatman Arizona
2:45
straight ahead now I don't know what the
2:48
protocol is for approaching these
2:51
animals but there is a conglomeration a
2:54
group of donkeys up here on this hill
2:59
frolicking around playing in the dust
3:01
how's it going buddy how's it going
3:06
what's up fellas good to see you not
3:10
something you see not something you see
3:14
every day just fraternizing with the
3:17
burros this little guy over here just
3:20
showered down on a banana he's got
3:23
himself a banana nice even have some
3:30
stuffed animal versions for sale at this
3:34
outdoor market jumping cacti skeletons
3:39
the skeletons of a cactus perhaps have
3:43
to go inside some of the stores to
3:45
purchase the donkey food I like this it
3:47
reminds me of an old circus banner
3:58
as Dave Coulier been here inside this
3:58
bag are nuggets of hey you hungry hey
4:03
hey hey oh you want hungry
4:05
oh he's a twenty two bag I got a cutie
4:08
you know you don't want to eat the hell
4:09
let me get one let me get one out for
4:10
you hold on let me wait oh okay there
4:12
you go just just go for you watch these
4:21
or you want the whole bag just take the
4:21
whole bag just take the whole let me
4:23
dump it out for you just take the whole
4:25
bag that's all yours you can have all of
4:28
it the rest is yours
4:30
known as the ghost town that refuses to
4:34
die walls of this diner are adorned with
4:38
thousands upon thousands maybe even
4:41
millions upon millions of American
4:48
currency dollar bills signed and placed
4:51
stapled along the walls and the roof
4:54
even the bar area has seen its share of
4:59
currency placed as well look at this
5:02
until tunnel back into the main dining
5:04
area there's just like such an unlimited
5:08
amount of cash the large rock formation
5:11
up on the side of the hill as well as
5:13
this structure could be seen in the 1962
5:17
Western how the west was won that's a
5:21
movie relic right there my museum oh you
5:25
can go directly inside the mine hardhats
5:29
may or may not be required danger stay
5:34
out stay ah very musty in here and my
5:41
throat is trying something to wet my
5:44
whistle opened in 1902 the hotel has
5:47
just a little bit of Hollywood history
5:50
this gentleman spent his wedding night
5:53
here Clark Gable and Carole Lombard
5:56
spent their honeymoon
5:58
upstairs visitors are welcomed to the
6:01
honeymoon suite simply walk up those
6:04
stairs and take a look in the window
6:08
pretty freaking cool who knew right in
6:13
there they consummated their marriage
6:17
you dog I wonder if he repeated that
6:21
famous line frankly my dear I don't give
6:24
up but you know the rest
6:34
further taking dream as if you'll live
6:34
forever live as if you'll die today if
6:37
you're smart like me you'll live your
6:39
days as if they were your last because
6:41
one day they will be if you can't
6:44
understand playing English I'm telling
6:46
you to have fun
6:47
Happy's wisdom consisted of a lot of
6:50
James Dean business is it just me or do
6:53
you look a lot like he's running off
8:33
things are getting quite a little bit
8:33
hot heavy back there but it all work out
8:36
in there they remain friends just a
8:38
couple couple bullet wounds but he'll
8:41
survive traveled up the winding mountain
8:43
path a few miles and noticed some ruins
8:48
here on the side of the hill and what
8:51
really caught my eye is up there on the
8:54
horizon looks to be a cave of some sort
8:57
upon closer inspection after trotting
9:01
over this fallen fence it's not a cave
9:05
it's an abandoned mineshaft whatever you
9:09
do don't you fall in there
9:14
I don't think anyone's gonna find you
9:15
for I don't and even more sketchy past
9:19
this barbed wire if I tuck the camera
9:22
down and peek over I don't know what's
9:25
worse the heights or the fear of tetanus
9:29
no no thank you
9:32
while Jacob takes the challenging way
9:35
down I'm also noticing the bottom level
9:39
shows a more intense view look at this
9:49
keep out as incredible as these views
9:49
are notice there's no guardrails off the
9:53
side of the cliff
9:55
if your car just swerved over there's
9:58
not much stopping you from going down
9:59
the side of the mountain almost like an
10:01
oasis if you will here in Cool Springs
10:04
this little convenience store popped up
10:07
all kind of stuff in here including this
10:09
little teeny tiny car and a glass case
10:13
of course some radiator spring stuff and
10:16
a Rolling Stones 1969 US tour jacket do
10:21
have to wonder if these vehicles are
10:24
ones they pulled out of the ravine off
10:26
the ledge just dragging the backup cars
10:29
that just didn't make it tumble down
10:32
tumble down the hill I want to throw
10:35
away my trash but there's like a lot of
10:37
bees there's a heck of a lot of I'm just
10:40
gonna I'm just kind of I'm just gonna
10:42
slide my trash I'm just gonna slide my
10:44
trash did I hit get in there get in
10:48
there
11:26
even restroom facilities at your
11:26
disposal and a sink all the comforts of
11:31
home out here basically in the barren
11:34
wasteland of nothingness pulling into
11:36
Kingman now it appears as if camels
11:42
camels are running rampant stationary
11:45
Santa Fe train railroad over in the park
11:49
perfect for photo opportunities also
11:52
happened to be at a very specific
11:54
unusual numbered altitude designated
11:58
with a sign at the powerhouse visitor
12:01
center currently three thousand three
12:03
hundred and thirty three point three
12:05
three feet above sea level
12:25
gotta love this signage shop fixing up
12:25
some of the old neons of Mother Road
12:28
heck yeah that's awesome
12:30
the el trovador claims to have the
12:33
longest map and I think it might be
12:36
painted on the side of the room doors
12:38
and information placard back there
12:40
stated that Don Knotts once stayed right
12:44
here you are here this is how far we've
12:48
come thus far each of the rooms are
12:51
named after a celebrity
12:53
for example Frank Sinatra that's his
12:58
room the Bogart area is cleverly
13:00
disguised the entryway and there's a
13:03
stagecoach painted around the windows
13:07
and there he is right up there old
13:09
Humphrey taking the reins of the horses
13:12
John Wayne now it's Humphrey Bogart why
13:17
would why would help us probably for the
13:20
same reason Porky Pig would be holding
13:22
two moneybags outside the Bugsy Seigel
13:26
room let's not forget the wishing well I
13:28
got my quarter ready
13:30
I'm gonna toss it in
13:34
nailed it well well well what what have
13:38
we here this Visitor Center is the home
13:40
of giganticus helices always enjoy this
13:46
joke cautioned baby Rattlers
13:49
they're down there see them down there
13:53
legitimate baby Rattlers this area the
13:57
cars are teeny-tiny and the bugs are
14:01
huge continued on a bit say hello to the
14:06
hackberry general store nice old classic
14:11
rat rod in front of the vintage gas
14:15
pumps always liked places that have maps
14:18
that you can put a pushpin in to let
14:21
people know where you're from and where
14:24
the travelers are coming from careful
14:27
don't illegally park hackberry towing
14:32
they don't play around who what's in
14:34
here well hello there didn't know you
14:39
were back here oh and see you over there
14:43
either working on the engine what animal
14:46

14:48

14:52

14:54

14:57
wait grab that gun right there grab that
14:59
gun all right we'll shoot our way out or
15:04
we could just grab the keys that are
15:05
just dangling right here can't get away
15:10
from these dang donkeys who cold go oh
15:15
never mind it's that's that's not real
15:25
winding down the evening now for a
15:25
hearty meal at the roadkill cafe you
15:28
know it's gotta be good when you first
15:30
walk in and a vulture is on the floor
15:33
man after looking at the menu it's
15:35
difficult to decide you got fender
15:37
tenders tire tread buff vulture and
15:40
veggie treads and bread but I think I'm
15:43
leaning towards the chicken that almost
15:47
crossed the road beverages served in
15:49
mason jars and an IQ test wait a second
15:55
fail what if these guys started singing
15:58
like country Bear Jamboree style
16:00
probably freak out all the locals and
16:02
this is what we're dealing with I got a
16:03
breast a thigh a leg mashed potatoes and
16:06
gravy potato salad and look at this what
16:11
the heck that's like an entire
16:14
gargantuan pig
