0:03 welcome everyone adam the woo
0:03 here i have arrived in mount
0:06 airy north carolina the hometown
0:09 where he was born raised grew up
0:14 and also andy griffith there
0:17 seen from the you know the fishing hole
0:19 spot from the intro of every episode
0:22 of arguably one of the greatest tv shows
0:27 of all time with opie i've been here
0:30 before but it has been
0:31 many years ago and i'm here to
0:34 document other items that i have not
0:37 seen
0:38 as well as a little more in-depth than
0:41 my
0:42 oh
0:52 i'm inviting you to join me and i have a
0:52 special surprise a little bit later
0:54 which i've never done before it's a good
0:56 one inviting you to join me shall you
0:59 i'll return back over to the museum a
1:01 little later
1:02 but this is a good little correlation of
1:05 some of the items around
1:06 the area and how they pertain to the
1:09 subject matter
1:10 it's just right here next to the museum
1:12 i'll come back over here in a little bit
1:14 one thing that's really nice is they
1:16 fully embrace
1:18 everything about it which is a good
1:20 thing
1:21 i made it about a mile away i was
1:23 distracted by the squad car
1:25 a few moments ago and forgot to mention
1:29 that
1:29 mount airy is the inspiration for
1:32 mayberry from the television show
1:36 and a lot of things that happened here
1:38 went on to become
1:39 parts of episodes
1:43 the real life mayberry and i do believe
1:46 i will be
1:46 there's more than one barney mobile i
1:49 guess you could call it i will be taking
1:50 one of these tours also
1:52 earlier this year i watched in order
1:55 season one through five which were
1:58 when barney was on the show
2:01 so it's all still fresh in my head in
2:03 fact i did the filming locations out in
2:05 culver city california
2:07 so it's gonna be nice to just meander
2:09 around with
2:11 knowing all the little ins and outs
2:14 you know like the darlings here's their
2:18 here's their automobile and the wally's
2:22 towing truck and contrary to
2:26 opinion the show did not
2:29 well was not filmed here in north
2:31 carolina
2:32 all in socal surprisingly they did a
2:36 good
2:36 a good job making it appear like
2:40 it would be up here in the mountains
2:51 these are all little recreations
2:51 which i highly approve of very cool
2:53 obviously it's not
2:55 precise to the recreation
2:58 would be for example mayberry hotel up
3:01 here
3:02 which this isn't really a hotel they're
3:04 just putting it on the awning
3:05 and the show was like a four or five
3:07 story building which you never see the
3:09 top of only like once
3:10 or twice in a couple episodes you only
3:12 saw first and second floor
3:14 one subtle point which i am picking up
3:17 on
3:18 well if you look down here on the
3:21 concrete you have aunt b
3:23 got goober ernest t thelma lou and
3:26 others miss crump
3:27 but around the side they have
3:30 constructed the door which was
3:35 in the show around the side of the
3:36 courthouse there was also a door
3:38 around this back end that's a nice touch
3:47 and of course wally's service station
3:47 can't forget about that with the gas
3:49 pumps out front
3:59 the price of the tour is forty dollars
3:59 not per person but
4:01 per car cash only which i'd have to go
4:04 buy an atm
4:05 but they said the driver could stop in
4:07 town
4:08 i could get some cash out that way
4:15 i think about it i did ask if they've
4:15 added anything new
4:17 to the tour in the last couple years
4:19 they said they have not
4:20 since i've done it before back in may of
4:23 2017. i'm gonna pass
4:26 on that because there's still so much
4:28 else to cover and i can go to all the
4:30 spots
4:31 myself and get out and walk around this
4:33 is
4:35 always this is awesome this is so good
4:40 there's the desk there it is not to
4:43 scale
4:43 obviously but pretty dang close there
4:46 where barney would sit
4:48 right over there andy here and across
4:52 would be otis and the cells
4:55 just like the just like the show the two
4:58 of them there
5:01 yeah it really kind of puts you in
5:04 puts you in the element
5:07 for sure and then around the back over
5:10 is the room where barney would sometimes
5:13 sleep overnight
5:15 and a lot happened back in that i think
5:16 that might be otis hat down there
5:19 always the key that he would reach for
5:22 and he always for one reason or another
5:24 always chose
5:26 this cell so you can see there's his
5:29 photograph there on the wall
5:31 and another nice touch is they have the
5:34 windows
5:35 up on either side right up there
5:38 and because ernest t bass would always
5:40 throw rocks and bricks through windows
5:42 they have this as a dedication
5:44 in memory of ernest t right down here a
5:46 brick and here's a nice little easter
5:48 egg
5:49 aunt b's kerosene cucumbers over here
5:53 in the corner she was very proud of her
5:55 pickles
5:57 and of course also the justice of the
5:59 peace
6:00 as well and there's andy's typewriter
6:02 the phone right there where
6:04 barney was always talking to juanita
6:07 drove about a mile maybe three quarters
6:09 of a mile
6:10 to downtown and next to the chamber of
6:14 commerce here at the
6:15 granite city is this guitar
6:20 which has been painted there with his
6:23 likeness
6:25 and a lot of the eating establishments
6:27 are also
6:28 themed this place is called barney's
6:31 cafe
6:31 home of the barney burger i saw a sign
6:34 and decided to walk down
6:36 this side of the hill in hopes of this
6:38 being what i
6:39 think it is and it totally is
6:43 a sports pub and grill by the name of
6:45 the loaded
6:46 goat mine and probably others would back
6:49 me up on this one of
6:50 one of my favorite episodes it's a good
6:52 one the
6:54 the tnt dynamite goat episode
6:57 in a lot of ways i don't even call it
6:59 mount airy even the music center goes by
7:01 the fictional name not the real town
7:03 name
7:03 and you gotta love this the snappy lunch
7:07 it really does exist it's a real place
7:10 right there on the door
7:11 written snappy lunch and of course
7:14 floyd's barber shop you just picture
7:17 floyd sitting out here
7:19 gossiping spinning some yarns
7:27 i think everyone loved floyd
7:27 i got a booth inside snappy lunch
7:30 looking at the menu here
7:36 i think i'm just going to get the pork
7:36 sandwich okay does that come with
7:38 anything
7:38 other than the sandwich no um we don't
7:41 we
7:42 the only size we would have is a bag of
7:44 potato chips okay i'll do a bag of
7:46 just plain potato chips though okay and
7:49 the sweet tea
7:51 thank you this is what they're known for
7:53 whether it's advertised out front so i
7:55 went with a pork chop sandwich
7:57 it is there's a pretty good sized
8:00 portion look at this thing
8:01 not bad for the christ that is that is
8:03 immense it has slaw
8:06 i'm seeing some slaw there tomato
8:09 oh yeah look at all that goodness down
8:10 in there that's this is only like four
8:12 dollars
8:13 and then the cup of sweet tea there and
8:15 some
8:16 some chips over in here as well
8:20 yeah that looks like a delicious a
8:22 delicious meal here at the
8:23 snappy lunch
8:27 looks so good
8:41 that was delicious it is now it's now
8:44 raining
8:46 it's raining out here there's a pretty
8:48 neat old school theater there across the
8:50 way called the earl
8:52 nice obviously not vintage if it is it's
8:56 been repainted but this coca-cola
8:58 advertisement here on the side of the
8:59 brick is always a nice
9:01 a nice thing to see there's a whole area
9:03 here about a block away for
9:05 public parking and there's another guide
9:07 map there that
9:08 shows all the stores we'll get back in
9:11 my rental and head
9:12 over to the museum i started at and look
9:15 around
9:16 showing where i am you are here that's
9:19 me i'm a smiley
9:21 the main area here where all the stores
9:25 goes along main street
9:29 i just need to drive over back down to
9:32 that area
9:34 i believe they do a festival annually
9:36 one of these years i'd like to come up
9:38 and check that out
9:39 hours for the museum are nine to five
9:42 every day with the exception of sundays
9:44 which are from one to five pm a little
9:46 shorter hours on sundays
9:47 oh check this out there's a little side
9:49 car for the motorcycle
9:51 has the department emblem on the side i
9:54 gotta get inside it's raining
9:55 after paying admission i have to peel
9:57 this off and put it on my
9:58 on my torso this is how they know that i
10:00 that i paid right here this badge
10:02 okay looks like the first of those
10:04 celebrations took place on june 1st of
10:06 57. there he is in the car in the parade
10:09 going through through town there here is
10:12 a shirt worn by him
10:13 on the show screen news and the letter
10:15 back in 2008
10:17 that he wrote signifying that it is
10:20 authentic
10:21 it's tough to see because of the the
10:23 glare and the reflection of everything
10:25 around it but
10:26 that's it no way these are the
10:29 original signs in front of the door the
10:32 justice of the peace
10:34 and the shared now this is not original
10:36 nor are the doors
10:38 but both of these were in culver city
10:40 used for the filming in front of the
10:41 courthouse
10:42 for real this this blows my mind just a
10:46 little bit that is
10:48 so these are seen in all the different
10:50 episodes that is
10:52 incredible right another screen used
10:54 item one of barney's two
10:56 salt and pepper suits this could be seen
10:59 in
10:59 the episode from the first first season
11:02 fifth episode there is otis hat and suit
11:06 the one here on the bottom this hat
11:08 started to decompose but he still
11:10 carried it around in a suitcase with him
11:12 for photo ops if need be but this is all
11:14 screen used
11:15 wow the keys that would be between the
11:17 two cells the secondary one
11:19 was in the one called cousin virgil
11:22 where he whittled it down to escape
11:24 now these are these are the keys even
11:26 though some of these items are
11:28 recreation this chair dawn not sat
11:30 in in every episode okay the gavel
11:33 the block the eagle over here and
11:37 this is the actual telephone right there
11:42 that's the real deal
11:43 i'm getting all this information from
11:45 the little items written down here
11:48 all the info on it here's a miniature
11:51 recreation of his
11:53 his home here in town on 7 11 east
11:56 haymore street
11:57 more precisely the corner of rockford
11:59 and haymore which was also
12:01 used and mentioned in an episode with
12:04 the crossing guard even though it's a
12:06 real place
12:06 here in mount airy it's also fictional
12:10 for mayberry where i'm going is at the
12:12 base of that water tower
12:16 right there top of the hill
12:38 of the water tower
12:38 this residential neighborhood
12:45 top of the hill is
12:45 andy's home place where he resided
12:53 nice little porch swing out here well
12:55 not a porch swing a
12:56 yard swing
13:02 and i'm happy to say i will be staying
13:04 here overnight
13:06 this will be my residence for the
13:09 evening
13:14 in andy's house
13:17 here's a photograph of him and his wife
13:21 quite some time ago
13:26 walking out of the front
13:33 the state's guests are occupying the
13:33 house
13:35 please respect their privacy
13:38 that's me i'm the guest
14:21 a lot of photographs themed
14:21 along the walls a bird cage there
14:24 very quaint in here
14:36 over here on the shelving are
14:36 not only a gay board game down here
14:39 but also vhs of some of the episodes
14:43 as well as dvds from season five
14:47 so i might be watching some of those
14:52 i kind of have to let's just sit over
14:54 there
14:55 on the chair there is a television with
14:57 a dvd player
15:03 nice squeaky floors gives it the proper
15:03 ambiance
15:04 looks like used to be a back porch which
15:06 has been converted into the second
15:09 bedroom
15:11 back here there's a bed a couple of
15:14 lamps
15:15 just me staying for the evening so i
15:17 don't need two beds but that
15:19 is the way it is presented
15:28 and along the side is classic car
15:28 advertisement alerts the kitchen is
15:31 incredible look at that got a microwave
15:41 coffee maker over there
15:44 you got some of the antique
15:49 items here along the wall
15:52 the stove yeah look at that thing
15:56 it's a hot point
16:13 nice tree with the leaves changing
16:13 falling
16:19 and then the main bedroom here
16:19 which was not the add-on from the back
16:21 porch
16:29 i don't know if the furniture is
16:29 original
16:30 looks like it could have been
16:48 at the head of the bed is the lord's
16:48 supper
16:51 there is a security system
17:01 looks to be a remodeled bathtub
17:01 as well oh there's the there's the
17:04 statue i was at
17:06 a little earlier
17:12 one thing about staying here you got to
17:12 get used to the tours going by
17:21 in the the antique vehicles
17:21 i guess they are still doing them in the
17:22 rain
17:24 copy of his birth certificate here born
17:27 in 1926
17:30 at 181 south street is written there
17:34 typed it in see how far it was about
17:36 three quarters of a mile
17:39 from here didn't move into this home
17:41 until he was six years old
17:44 and here's a photograph clipping from a
17:45 newspaper of his parents and
17:48 the headline reads the griffiths are
17:50 leaving mount airy
17:53 he lived here up until he went to
17:54 college at the age of 18.
17:57 he came back to visit pretty often in
18:00 his
18:01 later adult life until they left in 1966
18:05 some nice little tie-ins all through
18:09 including and there's opie with a bird
18:13 and next to the birdcage
18:18 the cost was 175 for
18:21 one night you know one day check in at
18:24 three
18:25 and then check out the next morning 175
18:28 plus taxes and fees came to about 197
18:32 for just me that's it's a little much
18:34 however
18:35 you know if you had a bunch of people
18:36 staying here
18:38 you know share the couch some different
18:41 couple different
18:42 bedrooms especially during the mayberry
18:45 days
18:45 which might be tough to book it because
18:47 i'm sure it's a very popular time period
18:50 it would it would be worthwhile and it
18:52 would add to the experience to be here
18:55 it's pretty awesome this states
18:58 from 35 to 66 was when the family
19:02 resided
19:07 take a peek i already looked in here and
19:09 show
19:13 how great is this this wallpaper
19:16 here's an artistic rendering of the home
19:20 right there something very fascinating
19:23 over here as
19:24 well there is a signature
19:31 right there an autograph well it was
19:31 taken from the guest book
19:34 and he has signed his name there
19:39 in october on october 16th of 2002
19:47 when it was an airbnb which is still
19:47 kind of is
19:48 rooted out by one of the local hotels
19:50 here he came back to stay
19:54 so imagine staying
19:57 as a guest in your former home
20:01 that you grew up in and then you signed
20:04 the guest book
20:06 that has to be an interesting feeling
20:21 obviously probably a different table
20:21 but i always i'm always picturing how
20:24 history is and you know how a family
20:28 would have been in here and it's
20:31 really easy to think of modern day
20:35 think of current situations as far as
20:38 looking at this and thinking oh it's
20:39 just a
20:40 it's just an older home but this
20:43 that was the family room over there
20:46 still is this was
20:48 always going to be the dining room
20:51 the kitchen over there so there probably
20:54 was a table i could even walk over there
21:02 to where the kitchen table was
21:02 most likely through here
21:06 could have even been kind of tucked away
21:08 in that corner
21:10 however just think of the conversations
21:14 that were had talking about aspirations
21:18 hopes dreams oh is that another
21:30 i thought barney was out there
21:59 that's going to do it for today if
21:59 you're new here
22:00 please subscribe by doing so helps keep
22:03 you in the loop and update on future
22:04 uploads here on this channel
22:05 take it a step further ring that
22:07 notification bell and if you enjoyed
22:09 this particular episode give it a big
22:11 thumbs up
22:12 let me know you care i'll see you in the
22:14 next video the vlog
22:17 is over i stand corrected this is the
22:19 entire
22:20 series every season i'm gonna watch
22:24 uh quite a few of my favorites loaded
22:27 goat
22:28 ant bees pickles citizens arrest and
22:31 maybe a couple others
