0:05 Today's adventure begins as the
0:05 recording of this Tuesday, December 9th,
0:09 2025. Peeking out my window here in the
0:13 hotel I'm staying at in Zurich,
0:16 Switzerland.
0:18 But I'm going to be heading out,
0:19 checking out momentarily, walking over
0:22 to the train station, and catching a
0:24 train into the Swiss Alps.
0:29 It's time.
0:37 Had a good time here in Zurich. Zurich
0:37 Zer.
0:38 And now I'm off.
0:42 This is my window view. And when I get
0:44 to the new hotel down in the Swiss Alps,
0:48 I'll show the view from there as well.
1:07 very short commute to the to the train
1:08 station from the hotel to the train
1:10 station.
1:11 Heck, maybe 100 yards door todo.
1:15 Got a few minutes. I think I got about
1:17 35 minutes till I board the train at the
1:18 platform. I should have time to grab a
1:21 cup of Joe, grab a cup of coffee before
1:24 heading in. I take two trains to where
1:28 I'm heading. Like about halfway there. I
1:30 got to get off, get on another train,
1:31 and then reach my final destination for
1:33 the day. It's a train day. Welcome
1:36 everyone. Adam the Woo here. Not
1:38 necessarily just a train day. should
1:40 have enough time, if all goes well, when
1:42 I reach the town I'm going to be staying
1:44 in to do a couple things in that
1:46 vicinity and just check out the new
1:48 terrain in the Swiss Alps that I'm
1:51 heading to. I'm excited. Join me. It's
1:53 good to have you here, shall you? All
1:56 right, I'll show the Zurich mug here at
2:00 Starbucks. And then also here is the
2:02 Switzerland. Not going to buy any mugs.
2:04 I'm just kind of running out of room
2:05 with buying records and everything. And
2:07 I've already got I've already got so
2:09 many mugs as it is. But this is
2:10 definitely really cool. We got the
2:11 fondue on there. I got to get cheese
2:13 fondue still as well. And spoiler alert,
2:16 this is kind of the area that I'm
2:18 heading. So yeah, if you know,
2:22 you know. I think most people probably
2:24 guessed it before. Everybody knows me.
2:27 The baristas in the Starbucks are like
2:29 the the happiest people ever. They were
2:31 so so joyous and kicking the day off on
2:34 a good foot. Said happy day. And she
2:36 said, "If you don't know what this is,
2:38 if you can't interpretate my artistic
2:40 renderings, that's a bear." Said, "Okay,
2:43 that's a bear." Got myself a sugar-free
2:46 vanilla latte at some point. I got to
2:48 get that fondue as I missed yesterday.
2:50 But I also got to get some hot chocolate
2:52 and chocolates because you got to get
2:54 some Swiss hot chocolate, right? That's
2:56 on the agenda, too. My train departs at
2:58 10:02.
3:01 So, I got about 25 27 minutes. Little
3:05 less than a half hour. That bird just
3:06 flew by. This is a goodiz clock. A lot
3:09 of big big clocks here in this country.
3:15 This is one of them.
3:17 A little bit bigger than the one in
3:19 Celebration comparison wise. Okay, I
3:21 think I found the correct gate. So the
3:24 102. I'm not seeing on my anything on my
3:26 ticket that says the A. But I do say
3:29 that there is a transfer in Visp, which
3:32 means I would go through Burn Sun speeds
3:35 and then arrive in Visp, get off there
3:37 and get on another one. But I'm not
3:39 seeing the IC8 anywhere on my ticket.
3:41 But 10:02 and transfer at Visp is
3:46 pretty sure that's it.
3:49 Crossing my fingers. All right, looking
3:51 at my ticket, it says IC812,
3:54 but on the signs, the one 12 is omitted,
3:57 but I'm just going with the time frame
4:00 of the 102 departure.
4:08 Okay, just gave me a little finger. I
4:08 wasn't even filming it. Also, this logo
4:10 matches up.
4:19 >> Actually, there's no really anywhere on
4:19 any of the platforms. There's no
4:20 information boost or any any workers
4:23 walking around. So, I'm just rolling the
4:25 dice on this one. Whatever happens
4:27 happens. I mean, I'll just grab another
4:28 trade if it's not the one. Is it?
4:47 >> All right, I'm on my way.
4:47 So, this goes to burn RN first and then
4:50 a couple more stops and then I get off
4:51 into this, I think,
5:06 I guess when the usher
5:06 approaches, I can ask a little more
5:08 info. I couldn't find anyone in the
5:11 station to ask information from.
5:15 I think I got this. I got it. Scenic
5:18 view to the Alps.
5:21 >> I think there are more scenic routes on
5:23 this. There's one that's very scenic,
5:25 but it was sold out for like the next
5:27 four days. So, I'm opting for this one.
5:30 Hopefully, I get some good good views.
5:32 Foggy, foggy today.
5:40 >> All right. I've now stopped in Burn
5:40 and as far as I know, I'm supposed to
5:42 stay on this train. till I get to fisp
5:45 and then exit.
5:57 All right, now reversing direction.
5:57 Still going the right way, but going
5:58 backwards.
6:09 Also should be noted that first leg of
6:09 the trip no one asked for a ticket and
6:11 now finally an usher is coming down
6:13 checking tickets.
6:15 So I'll be able to ask
6:25 >> first physical person employee I've seen
6:25 all day
6:27 >> as far as asking information.
7:11 Passengers traveling to Spicerman.
7:12 Fitigum, Candenstein
7:14 and Interlan, please change to the
7:16 connecting service.
7:33 >> You know, it's kind of funny as I stop
7:33 here in Spi
7:35 Z. That kind of looks like the matter
7:37 tree at Disneyland. The tree horn.
7:41 right there.
7:43 >> Yeah, when you're certain areas of the
7:45 park, they use it to block the Matter
7:46 Horn when you're at Disneyland,
7:49 especially if you're like on the top row
7:50 of pirates.
7:52 I don't know. Maybe it doesn't look like
7:54 the Matter Horn, but I have Matter Horn
7:56 on my mind because I'm going to be
7:57 seeing it later.
8:53 All right, I've arrived
8:53 in Vis.
8:59 I just got to find the platform and
9:00 train
9:01 it to go to my next stop. It's 12:05.
9:04 Well, 12:04 Zerat
9:13 platform 3.
9:13 I'm going to say platform 3.
9:16 Well, there's a couple of them going.
9:18 There's 1211 and 1237.
9:21 It's 12:06. I think I got to get on the
9:24 1211. Platform 3. I got to get moving.
9:28 Yeah, I got to get moving. I got 5
9:29 minutes.
9:31 I think this is it.
10:10 the seats were pretty filled up. So, I
10:10 pulled down one of these little ones by
10:11 the luggage rack. I think it's only
10:14 about an hour ride, so it should be good
10:15 right here.
11:07 thing I'm noticing is how clean that
11:07 water is. Not muddy or murky or
11:10 anything.
11:26 Actually going uphill now. The train is
11:26 going up the side of the mountains.
11:28 Heat. Heat.
12:13 Yeah, the first leg was highspeed train.
12:14 This second section, there's no possible
12:16 way you could go at high speed cuz
12:18 you're just winding through the
12:20 mountains.
12:21 Very windy uphill and awesome.
12:26 That's a waterfall.
15:57 >> All right, I think my stop is next.
15:57 Zerat.
16:23 Going up another mountain.
16:23 Keep going up.
16:44 >> All right, I've arrived.
16:44 1:20
16:52 p.m. here in Switzerland at Zerat or
16:58 That was definitely a good pretty scenic
16:58 ride. More scenic than I thought it
16:59 would be. Unreal. Unreal.
17:08 Weather's so good.
17:10 Look at this little thing.
17:13 What is that on the back? Oh, I thought
17:14 that was a yeti, but it's actually three
17:16 goats
17:18 or three sheep, I should say. Kind of
17:20 look like a yeti, though. Yeti on my
17:22 mind.
17:24 All right, I got to find my hotel. Looks
17:25 like there's a big bike riding town.
17:28 So, these are the automobiles.
17:30 Snow cabs, they call them.
17:34 Amazing.
17:35 It's only a half mile to my hotel. I
17:37 think I'm going to hoof it. It's called
17:39 snow cabs. Look at these things. I love
17:43 it here.
17:50 Snow cab overload.
17:50 Snow cab. Who ordered a snow cab? Or
17:54 if you don't want to take a snow cab,
17:57 you take a horsedrawn carriage.
18:12 Where am I? This is so good.
18:12 Oh, this is so good. So good. So happy
18:16 right now.
18:18 That' be one way to get to the hotel,
18:19 right?
18:21 Take a horserawn carriage to the hotel
18:24 or a snow cab.
18:27 Looks like every automobile here looks
18:29 like the snow caps. Got their Christmas
18:32 tree up. Now I'm really getting in the
18:34 holiday spirit.
18:36 I'm
18:36 >> in snow.
18:45 And yes, I do have my Crocs on for now.
18:46 Come on. Come on. They're putting
18:49 Christmas trees up. These workers over
18:51 here are putting trees up throughout the
18:54 town.
18:56 Horron carriages.
18:59 Let's go.
19:10 Oh,
19:10 >> I love this weather so much. I feel so
19:12 good right now. Light hoodie, feeling
19:14 nice.
19:29 I'm in a dream world.
19:29 Ah, this is good. This is go so good.
19:34 As I'm walking to the hotel, I just
19:37 get my first glimpse
19:39 of this iconic mountain
19:43 peeking up over
19:45 the top of those structures.
19:49 That is the real
20:00 unbelievable. Look at that thing.
20:00 I love it. Love it so much. Throwing out
20:02 the salt
20:04 on the road there. the workers in town.
20:07 Yeah. I think when I get to my room,
20:09 I'll put the shoes on.
20:19 Do a little exploring. Hopefully I can
20:19 check in now. And if not, put my bags
20:21 away.
20:30 A carving of this tree. This looks like
20:30 some sort of a tobog. What do you call
20:32 that?
20:43 >> Yeah, maybe a boat of some sort.
20:43 >> Bob sled.
20:44 >> Could that be a bobsled?
20:54 Love the hillside
20:54 houses here. Got the flowing river down
20:57 here.
21:02 Here's the cemetery at the base of the
21:02 Matter Horn.
21:11 Yeah, I got to put my bags away. Do some
21:11 exploring. Shout out to Ryan. All right,
21:14 then. Okay.
21:25 That is a sight to behold.
21:26 Entire village.
21:28 Until recently, until very recent, I did
21:30 not realize there was an entire little
21:32 town village, quaint, cute, and
21:35 beautiful at the base of the Patter
21:36 Horn. I didn't realize that.
21:50 I really love it here. I really love
21:50 this town.
21:52 I just strolled in my first impression,
21:54 but man, it's nice.
21:56 So cute. I am officially checked in my
21:59 room and I really
22:02 am happy with this room. The room itself
22:04 is amazing. But wait till you see the
22:07 view. I'll start off with the
22:10 facilities. Got a shower and a nice tub
22:15 commode. Decent size sink.
22:19 Good size mirror
22:22 so I can opt for a shower or soak in the
22:25 tub.
22:26 I've already pulled open the balcony
22:30 door to let some fresh air in. I'm all
22:32 about the fresh air, even when it's cold
22:33 and crisp. Decent size bed.
22:38 Big cabinet here, which has
22:42 safe in it.
22:45 Place to hang up your jackets and
22:47 clothes.
22:49 Coffee maker right down here of some
22:51 sort. Tea kettle, which is nice.
22:56 be trying some of the local
22:59 some of the local stuff as well.
23:02 Also, one thing I was noticing too is
23:04 they have a place to put your shoes
23:07 where it doesn't completely, you know,
23:11 mess up the floor. So, you got this
23:14 little thing down here that almost is
23:15 like a dish strainer in ways, but it's
23:19 made to put your shoes. I'm guessing
23:20 it's made to put your shoes on there.
23:24 Got my suitcase over there. Got the bed.
23:27 Looks pretty cozy. But the real selling
23:30 point is the view. Look at this. Now, it
23:34 is a shared balcony. It's not a shared
23:36 room. I have my own bathroom. I have my
23:38 own bed. I have my own living quarters,
23:41 but the balcony is a shared balcony.
23:43 Right now, no one out here.
23:55 This is the freaking
23:55 view.
24:04 >> What? What's happening? What's happening
24:04 right now?
24:13 A couple chairs here for me. My
24:13 neighbors over there. if let's say if
24:14 any who knows if anybody's even going to
24:16 be staying on the shared balcony. But
24:19 yeah,
24:26 I'll be sitting down here a lot.
24:26 Oh my lord.
24:30 This is unreal.
24:37 I'm going to put some stuff away, charge
24:38 a couple things, and then do a little
24:41 rooting around the town.
24:47 I am pretty happy right now. Overwhelmed
24:47 in a way. This just doesn't feel real.
25:05 It really doesn't. Oh goodness. Oh
25:05 goodness.
25:07 Those are birds.
25:10 >> Hitchcock.
25:12 would be
25:16 very proud. Look at those things
25:18 circling
25:20 over the top of town.
25:27 All right.
25:27 Can't wait to walk around, see some
25:28 stuff there. The river all snowy, cold,
25:41 There is a Matter Horn museum.
25:41 I'm going see if it's open. Learn a
25:44 little bit the about the real
25:45 Matterhorn. And also
25:49 walk around this cemetery.
26:19 >> [bell]
26:20 >> Oh, well hello there.
26:27 The church also
26:27 some graves as well.
26:44 Lots of recognition here for Zerat
26:44 and Mount Matterhorn.
27:19 Uh-oh. This isn't looking good.
27:19 Not open today. Today's Tuesday as I'm
27:21 filming this. only open Friday,
27:23 Saturday, and Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00.
27:28 Sad trump.
27:31 It wasn't meant to be for me to get in
27:32 the museum and learn more about the
27:34 Matter Horn. Not 3 to 5, 3 to 6.
27:36 Misspoke on that one.
27:39 I would have timed it out right because
27:41 it's almost 3 now. It is 2:35.
27:50 So, in a half hour it would open, but
27:50 it's not Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. So
27:53 what can you do?
27:59 There are lots of Matter Horn images.
27:59 Entire town is built around it.
28:04 Built around the fact that they're at
28:05 the base of the Matter Horn. I love it.
28:06 Definitely got to buy a lot of
28:08 merchandise.
28:10 Definitely going to get some stuff.
28:13 Some magnets, a couple shirts.
28:16 Be great to have a couple shirts. Take
28:17 one of them next time at Disneyland. And
28:20 I go on the Matter Horn bobs slots and
28:22 wear it. Wear it there. Oh, this is such
28:26 a cool spot. Oh, it's one of those big
28:28 horn things.
28:35 Like the ricola horns.
28:35 >> Was that from Switzerland? Rola.
28:39 The lozenes.
28:42 It might have been
28:51 all kind of places to eat,
28:51 drink,
28:53 be merry,
29:10 I need to get some cheese. I need to get
29:10 some souvenirs.
29:12 I need to get some cheese. And more
29:15 cheese. Little guide map when it comes
29:17 to wooden street sign. All the different
29:20 chalets and lodges, hotels,
29:22 accommodations, rooms,
29:25 places to stay.
29:27 All the snow taxis out and about taking
29:29 guests where they got to go.
29:43 It's also catching a glimpse of the
29:43 iconic mountain
29:45 right there. Should be getting a little
29:47 sunset soon. Sun sets pretty early and
29:51 because the mountain range,
29:53 the sun will peak behind the mountains
29:55 even before sunset even happens.
29:58 But the sun sets behind
30:00 the glorious Mount Matterhorn.
30:09 look like he's chowing down a little
30:09 snack
30:19 And then there's a plushy version right
30:19 there, too.
30:22 Oh, and then look over here. There's
30:24 another one in the window.
30:32 You're going to get some souvenirs. You
30:32 might as well go to a souvenir place
30:34 that's named after the village itself.
30:41 Stop in here. See what they got. Got a
30:41 bag full of items. Some of them are
30:43 wrapped up. So, I'll show what I get.
30:44 I'll give a little haul when I get back
30:46 to my hotel room. But I got some pins. I
30:49 got a cap.
30:52 Similar, but not this one, but similar
30:56 to this.
30:59 Oh, that's so good. So good.
31:03 Love all the Matter Horn merch. Love it.
31:07 Ah, Edward Wyamper on July 14th, 1865
31:12 set forth from this hotel with his
31:14 companions and guides and complete the
31:16 first successful ascent of the
31:18 Matterhorn from this hotel. This place
31:21 kind of gives me Gatlinburgg vibes in a
31:23 lot of ways. If you ever been to
31:26 Gatlinburg, it kind of has that street
31:28 and Gatlinburgg vibes. Look at this.
31:31 This is a piece of bread.
31:34 I don't know what it's supposed to
31:35 symbolize.
31:40 Huh?
31:40 Look at that. That is That is a pretzel.
31:43 That makes theme park pretzels look like
31:45 amateur hour.
31:46 >> Oh yeah.
31:49 >> Look at that. It's got the cheese on it.
31:58 There's Mr. Edward Yamurer right there.
31:58 He is signified all over. He just
32:02 doesn't give a fudge fudge. Thought I
32:04 said something else, but
32:10 some kind of cheese. They have a little
32:10 cheese snack in here. All right. I
32:11 didn't get any cheese, but take a look
32:13 at these handmade
32:19 mountain cookies
32:19 with little matter horns on them. And I
32:23 got a couple other chocolate items in
32:24 here that I'll again I'll show when I
32:26 get back to my hotel because it's just
32:28 too much to give. I'll put them in this
32:30 bag. and I'll give her a little haul
32:32 later.
32:34 Oh yeah, I'm going full on matter. Don't
32:37 count how many times. Don't count how
32:39 many times I say that word, the M word
32:41 in today's or the whole duration of my
32:43 stay here.
32:44 >> No, this is not a guide map around
32:46 Walt's original magic. Oh, light just
32:48 turned on.
32:55 That's a pretty sweet poster, too. Kind
32:55 of gives you all the correlation of the
32:56 different hiking spots. And no, I will
32:58 not be hiking to the top of the Matter
33:00 Horn. I'm already a mile up.
33:03 Can't imagine climbing that in the cold.
33:07 Being an out of shape guy like myself
33:08 would not do well doing that.
33:12 >> But in my duration of being here, I will
33:14 find other ways to get close to it
33:17 >> and get upward on it.
33:19 But when you're looking at the one in
33:21 Anaheim, which I passed many times,
33:24 driving down the freeway, you can see it
33:26 from the freeway, especially before they
33:28 built all the the hotels between Orange
33:31 and Anaheim. first moved to Anaheim in
33:34 2015 and being a Disney annual
33:36 passholder at Disneyland for 10 years
33:39 but with the exception of two year 2020
33:43 21
33:45 been on the attraction that is inside
33:47 this created by Bob Gurr
33:51 genius attraction
33:53 just amazing to be seeing the real thing
33:55 that inspired
33:57 that ride that sits if you're walking
33:59 down Main Street USA off Just to the
34:03 right of the castle. Oh, take a look at
34:07 the name of this one. Matter.
34:20 >> I don't know why that made me laugh. It
34:20 makes me happy. I don't know. I'm happy
34:22 to be here. I'm easily amused. Yeah.
34:24 Literally, when it comes to this stuff,
34:25 take my money, please.
34:29 Still looking for the appropriate shirt,
34:31 though. Which one? Like all the
34:32 different goats. Look at these little
34:34 car these face carvings up here. The
34:37 different heads like this. Look at this.
34:41 That's good, right? That's good. That's
34:42 like a hand painted. Go. Oh, I wish I
34:45 could put this in my luggage cuz look at
34:47 this. It's a snow globe. Oh, that's the
34:51 best thing ever. Oh. Oh, that is so
34:54 good. That's so good.
34:58 So good.
34:59 Again, easily amused. But that is so
35:02 good.
35:03 I wish I could take that back. Maybe
35:06 they have it online.
35:08 Oh, that's good. Oh, here's a smaller
35:10 one down here. Look, there's all these
35:12 little snow globes.
35:14 Look at that.
35:16 Ah, sometimes you'll see snow globes in
35:19 places that don't really snow, but it
35:20 really snows here. In fact, it has been
35:23 has been snowing. Touch at your own risk
35:25 cuz these goats right here. See, touch
35:27 at your own risk cuz those goats,
35:28 [clears throat] they might maul off a
35:30 finger or something perhaps. Look at one
35:33 of the guys that's like scaffolding
35:35 down. You know, at Disneyland, they used
35:36 to have people that used to scaffold
35:38 down the attraction of the the
35:41 attraction at one point. They don't do
35:43 that anymore. They haven't done that.
35:44 I've never actually seen it in person.
35:46 I've only seen photos of videos where
35:48 they used to have people, what do they
35:50 call it? Not hiking, but like
35:52 scaffolding down with the rope and
35:54 everything. But they don't do that
35:55 anymore. I don't do that anymore in
35:58 Anaheim. There be a lot of Anaheim
35:59 references during my duration here. All
36:02 right. Each place I've been buying stuff
36:03 says, "Would you like a bag?" Oh, no.
36:05 Just I'll just throw it in the bag I've
36:07 already got going. So, my bag is filling
36:08 up again. I'll show everything I bought
36:11 a little later this evening. And there
36:13 is no Starbucks in town, which is fine.
36:15 There's plenty of coffee here. However,
36:18 thought if I was going to buy one of
36:19 those you are here, you were there,
36:22 you were somewhere mugs that Starbucks
36:24 have, I think if I was going to get
36:27 another one, which I don't really buy
36:28 too many of them. That dog is eyeballing
36:30 that Christmas tree. This would be a
36:32 good place to get it. But the town has
36:34 intentionally kept Starbucks out of this
36:36 town, I read. However, there is a
36:39 McDonald's, so I guess that whole thing
36:42 doesn't make any sense. But either way,
37:01 some of the local papers they have for
37:01 sale here at the kiosk store. Seen a lot
37:04 of these in Switzerland. The kiosk store
37:05 is pretty popular or convenience store.
37:08 Oh, I like the classic postcard look.
37:11 Very classic postcards.
37:33 Then you got the more modern day
37:33 postcards. Well, kind of modern day.
37:41 I have to get a couple of these, too.
37:41 All right. Got a few. Got five
37:43 postcards.
37:46 Put them in my bag with all the other
37:47 stuff. There's also a full calendar if
37:49 you want a full calendar.
37:51 >> Your son's a bit.
37:53 >> I went with the postcards. I'll put them
37:55 in the bag.
37:56 >> See lots of Swiss chocolate.
38:00 This place been a tradition since 1836.
38:03 Not seeing a lot of cheese, though.
38:06 Not seeing a lot of cheese. Not as much
38:09 cheese as I thought I would say. Oh,
38:11 these might have my name all over them.
38:13 Do I need these boxers here?
38:26 I don't know. That's pretty good.
38:26 That's pretty good. That's pretty good.
38:28 How about a How about a food placement?
38:40 >> That's good.
38:40 These socks also. Where's more shirts?
38:44 I've already got one shirt.
38:46 Like that one, too. That's pretty good.
38:48 Here's the altitude.
38:50 Right now, I'm a mile up. Not counting
38:53 going to the top of top of the tippy top
38:57 of the M word.
39:10 I'm having such a good time just walking
39:10 around looking at all the merch.
39:14 >> Oh, over here. These are like bells,
39:18 right? Are they bells? Or maybe they're
39:21 Oh, yeah, they are bells.
39:24 >> Yeah.
39:27 Okay.
39:39 Oh, someone has built a little snowman.
39:39 Right down here. That's great. A little
39:42 snowman. And up here climbing up through
39:45 the snow
39:47 they have the sculpture
39:52 of the man himself.
40:01 Well, that might be a different guy
40:01 >> than the one I was reading about on the
40:02 side of the hotel. [laughter]
40:22 >> There's a crate place right here that
40:22 looks very, very popular. People are in
40:24 line for it. Take a look down here.
40:26 There's like a little place called the
40:28 little bar. Hang out in the coolest
40:30 bars. That one goes right underneath the
40:33 crate place. Just a little bar in the
40:37 basement
40:39 of this very old school building
40:43 with a little cute balcony.
40:46 And that crepe wine is pretty lengthy.
40:57 I did find a place that had cheese
40:57 fondue, so I'm going to go back to it
40:58 later. I just wrote my stuff up. Look at
41:00 this old building. This is awesome.
41:03 You got the newer Well, I thought that
41:05 was construction, but it's not. That's a
41:07 finished building right there.
41:10 Interesting.
41:12 It almost looks like something's under
41:13 construction, newer building, but it's
41:15 not. I really like this. It's been
41:18 fenced off
41:20 for whatever reason. This is probably
41:21 maybe not structurally sound anymore,
41:23 but a lot of the old buildings in here
41:26 with some of the new stores.
41:29 There's another older building here.
41:46 as designated
41:46 by the amount of chimes.
42:31 And then
42:31 and then there are people in town
42:33 like people from
43:11 Oh, there's the police right there.
43:11 That's the police. That's a police
43:13 vehicle.
43:21 That's different, right?
43:21 Look at that. Something's flying above
43:23 it.
43:25 See it flying way above it there.
43:37 it's definitely dropping a little bit
43:37 now that the sun is starting to consider
43:39 let's consider this dusk. So, it's only
43:42 going to get colder. All right, here's
43:44 the merchandise I got. Got the little
43:47 Matter Horn cookies. Got some socks
43:50 right here. I got some chocolates in
43:53 here, which I'm going to take out of
43:54 here and display on the on the balcony
43:58 with the mountain in the background.
43:59 I'll show that momentarily. Also
44:01 probably do the same with all the pins.
44:02 I got I got four different pins of the
44:05 mountain. I got this magnet with a
44:08 thermometer. I got this other magnet. I
44:11 got a little patch. Not sure what I'm
44:13 going to do with it, but I really like
44:14 it. And I got these postcards, the retro
44:31 Yeah, not bad.
44:31 Not a bad little haul. All right, I'm
44:34 going to take out the little cute little
44:35 chocolates, put it in front of the
44:37 mountain, and I'll take the pens out
45:06 It is just so cool that that
45:06 is
45:22 I am a long way
45:22 from Celebration, Florida.
45:26 Snowcap Mountains.
45:30 Snowcap ground.
45:32 People out sledding.
45:35 Beautiful, beautiful
45:38 evening.
45:46 But I am wearing an appropriate
45:46 celebration t-shirt underneath my
45:50 Universal Hollywood hoodie, FanFest
45:53 hoodie. And
45:55 look at this. I got the new beanie on.
45:58 Feel pretty good right now. Feel really
46:00 comfortable. Very beautiful soaking all
46:02 this in. Probably could use some light
46:05 gloves, but not too bad. to see how how
46:08 long I'm out walking around. But this is
46:10 just something.
46:17 That is just something else.
46:17 I know I keep reiterating saying that
46:19 over and over, but
46:22 unbelievable.
46:25 I'm in the Swiss Alps.
46:28 Long, long way from out.
46:32 There's a cross up there.
46:38 All right. This is what I've been
46:38 looking for.
46:40 Cheese place.
46:59 All right. This is kind of an
46:59 interesting setup. It's all on the honor
47:02 system. So, you add it up. Mine came to
47:05 $8 and change. You add that up, throw it
47:08 on there, tap your card,
47:11 and then you walk off. So, I got my
47:13 cheese. No employee or anything. Just
47:16 have the door open.
47:19 It's all on the honor system to get
47:21 yourself some Swiss cheese.
47:25 I got some
47:28 I don't know what this would be.
47:30 Alcas.
47:32 And
47:35 look at that. It's got the mountain
47:36 right on the side of it in the cow. Can
47:39 munch on this a little bit later in the
47:41 room.
47:45 I wonder if you're just supposed to put
47:45 it on crackers or something or if you
47:46 just eat it. Just eat it like a candy
47:49 bar. We should have done a Family
47:51 Matters episode
47:53 where they came here. Steve Urkl
47:55 treading very lightly because this is
47:56 very steep and there is ice on it. It's
47:58 not a lot of ice. But I'd rather not
48:01 slip until I get to a little more level
48:03 non-cobblestone ground. But Steve Urkel,
48:08 eat your heart out. Got any cheese? Yes,
48:11 I do. I'm going to throw family matters
48:15 in here for no reason. All right, I
48:17 passed the store. Plenty of places,
48:19 plenty of winter accessory places here.
48:21 So, purchase some gloves. I have one of
48:24 them on at the moment. They're good
48:26 because I can use my phone, use my
48:27 camera. So, I got the glove here and I'm
48:31 going to put the other one on, but
48:32 momentarily.
48:34 So, even though the museum's closed, I
48:36 did a quick little research about that
48:39 first climb, Edward Wimper or Wiper,
48:42 1865
48:44 was the one that came up with the group
48:46 or he was the leader of the group that
48:48 climbed to the very very top of the
48:50 mountain, the first time ever. and he
48:53 was the only one of his group that
48:55 survived with the exception of two hired
48:58 guides they brought with him. Both those
49:00 guides survived and Edward survived but
49:04 everyone else, the four others perished
49:07 because the rope
49:09 was attached. One guy fell and the other
49:11 four were attached with him and he fell.
49:14 And Edward Whimper or Wiper was accused
49:17 heavily of cutting the rope to not be
49:21 pulled down with the rest. It's kind of
49:23 interesting because if they were all
49:24 falling anyway, I'm not sure what the
49:27 conspiracy is with that, but evidently
49:30 he was
49:32 acquitted of the charges or he was of
49:35 the rumors or whichever. I don't know if
49:36 it went to court, but it was said that
49:39 that did not happen. But a lot of people
49:41 still believe that that was the case and
49:43 he was at fault for cutting the rope.
49:47 I mean, who knows? But I guess it was
49:49 big big news back when it happened.
49:52 Edward lived 50 years almost 50 years
49:55 longer, like 45 years longer to 1911 or
49:58 1910 or 1911. All the others perished on
50:02 that first climb up to Matterhorn in '
50:05 65 and they are buried in the cemetery.
50:08 All right, I'm going to go find their
50:09 graves. And since Edward, you know,
50:11 survived 40 plus years more than the
50:14 others, he is not laid to rest here cuz
50:17 he was elsewhere
50:19 when he passed. Lived a good long life.
50:29 I just got to find where their
50:29 headstones are.
50:48 also notice how there's all these
50:48 candles through here.
50:50 That is very beautiful.
50:53 the candles
50:55 over where the urns are
51:05 and then where these graves are also.
51:05 Now there is no headstone or resting
51:06 place for Lord Francis Douglas
51:11 because his body was never found. The
51:13 others were found.
51:28 might be kind of tough to find because
51:28 it is dark out some of the others.
51:35 There's kind of an image
51:35 the headstones and then looking up at
51:39 the at the mountain. All right. The more
51:41 I'm looking around, I'm thinking that
51:43 they are over here closer
51:45 to the actual church
51:48 than they are on the lower portion. In
51:51 fact, this here, this rock is dedicated
51:54 to the unknown climber.
51:58 It's the grave of the unknown climber.
52:00 And it says so right down there,
52:12 but evidently it just wasn't back in
52:15 that someone fell from the mountain.
52:16 It's happened many times.
52:19 And some were and some weren't found. So
52:22 if you follow that around, you can see
52:26 Michael Cross
52:29 is right here. Michael Augusta C Cross
52:33 Cros C O Z
52:38 July 14th, 1865.
52:41 and it's covered in snow, but one or two
52:45 of the others are
53:04 the first ascension up to the top of the
53:04 Matterhorn Mountain
53:10 and they are laid to rest right
53:10 underneath the church steeple and the
53:12 church building.
53:19 Here's a piece of art artistic rendering
53:19 came out a long time ago pic depicting
53:23 what happened and the four that fell.
53:26 believe that would probably be Edward
53:28 who survived.
53:30 And then there's the other four that
53:32 plummeted.
53:34 They didn't they didn't get all the way
53:36 up there.
53:48 Here they are. Yeah. So, what they don't
53:48 tell you on this is that Lord Byron and
53:50 the other three perished that day. And
53:53 not only they depart out of here to
53:55 climb up the mountain. And I read this a
53:56 little earlier. Evidently, they ate a
53:58 meal in here to get ready for it before
54:02 heading up. I read that account
54:03 somewhere. I'm not sure if it's 100%
54:05 true, but you could just kind of picture
54:07 back to July 14th or at least around
54:10 that time.
54:17 They were having their meal. They were
54:17 excited about what they were going to
54:18 accomplish. And it is now 6:00. [bell]
54:36 as noted by the chives. I think that was
54:36 six or was it seven? I think it was six.
54:39 I was talking over the first couple.
54:41 Also, I mixed up his name. It was Lord
54:44 Francis Douglas.
54:46 Not Lord Byron. Totally different guy.
54:49 And even though he is not again laid to
54:51 rest here, there is a little plaque.
54:53 There's a few plaques for all the guys
54:56 going down this main road as you head to
54:58 the mountain. All right, I found him
55:00 right here. Lord Francis Douglas, 1847
55:06 to 1865. He was very young. 1847 to
55:10 1865.
55:12 passed away on July 14th along with the
55:15 others when they fell from the mountain
55:18 in July 14th of 1865.
55:21 He is the only one whose body was not
55:24 found.
55:25 So he is honored here right along the
55:29 wet cobblestone.
55:32 All right, I think some food needs to
55:34 happen. I walked by here earlier and
55:36 said they had cheese fondue. So
55:39 I go inside this place. Theodor's
55:42 Stuba
55:44 Wallershoff.
55:53 Open every day 11:30
55:53 to 10:00 p.m. Hot Stone Fondue Chenoise
55:58 and cheese fondue racklet. Not sure what
56:00 that is, but I see cheese fondue and I
56:03 need some. Oh, there's Walt. Look at
56:07 that before walking in here. That was
56:09 accidental.
56:13 Right inside the front door when you're
56:17 walking when you're walking inside this
56:19 place. Look at Walt right there. All
56:21 right. I got to admit that was my very
56:23 first time ever eating cheese fondue. I
56:25 think you can get chocolate fondue also.
56:28 Didn't realize exactly what it was and I
56:30 had to even ask the waitress when she
56:32 brought it out. She goes, "You want
56:34 this? The traditional?" I'll go, "Yeah,
56:35 give me the traditional." And turns out
56:37 it's just like kind of oversized chunks,
56:39 like not breadcrumbs cuz they're not as
56:40 crunchy as breadcrumbs, but like slices
56:43 of bread that's like two or three times
56:45 the size of a bread crumb. And then she
56:48 said, "You take the you take the little
56:49 utensil, the little tong thing, you dip
56:52 it around, slosh it all around, then you
56:53 spin it eight times till it all drips
56:56 off. Stick it on the plate, take the
56:57 fork, you can put salt, pepper on it,
56:59 whatever you want. I just decided to go
57:00 straight in cheese and ended up having
57:03 my cheese fondue. I don't know if I'd
57:05 ever get it again. It was a lot of
57:06 cheese and bread and I do love bread. I
57:08 do like cheese, but it was just that's
57:09 all it was. But I did it. When in
57:12 Switzerland, you have some cheese fondue
57:15 and I got mine right here at Theodore's
57:19 with the Mword off in the distance.
57:23 That's kind of cool. had a photo of of
57:24 of Walt in there cuz Walt here, Walt
57:27 stayed here many, many times,
57:30 especially in the late 50s when he made
57:33 a movie called The Third Man on the
57:36 Mountain about the ride that he built
57:41 that came out. The movie came out, Third
57:43 Man on the Mountain, just a few months
57:45 after the Matter Horn ride opened. So
57:48 they basically built the Matter Horn to
57:49 promote the movie almost like they built
57:53 Sleeping Beauty Castle to promote
57:55 Sleeping Beauty. Oh, had the Disney
57:57 company has changed. They would never do
57:58 that now. But they did it then.
58:11 [bell] And the hotel I mentioned
58:11 earlier, the first climb, the first
58:15 achievement getting the top of the
58:16 Matter Horn. the guys met here.
58:20 Right across the courtyard [music]
58:21 where the bells are ringing at the
58:23 church tower is the Grand Hotel Zur
58:27 Zerma Turhoff.
58:30 Walt Disney stayed here quite a few
58:32 times. This is where this was his hotel
58:35 of choice. Not where I'm staying, [bell]
58:38 but he stayed here. I'm going to go in
58:40 the lobby. See maybe if they have
58:41 anything relating to Walt. Maybe they
58:43 have some pictures in here of Walt.
58:45 Maybe. You never know. They do have
58:46 Santa here. Santa ringing a a bell as
58:49 well. See if this opens up as I go in.
58:52 Maybe possibly he does. Let's see what
58:56 they got. All right. I went inside and
58:58 asked if they had any photos of Walt
59:00 staying there or any kind anything
59:02 photographic homages to Walt. And they
59:04 said, you know, they try to keep all
59:06 their guests private. They said he
59:08 stayed here a long time ago this year,
59:10 which I kind of figured was pretty
59:11 obvious because he passed away in ' 66.
59:13 But yeah, no no photos of Walt in there.
59:16 After that, after all that cheese, I
59:17 kind of in the mood for like a sweet
59:20 Swiss Swiss, it's hard to say. Tongue
59:22 twister treat. Maybe some chocolate.
59:27 Maybe even a hot chocolate.
59:29 When in Switzerland, right? I had to see
59:31 the tree lit up
59:34 when I got into town earlier. It wasn't
59:36 dark yet. Now it's dark.
59:38 >> I want to see a tree lit up. There it
59:40 is.
1:00:05 Pretty interesting how every single
1:00:05 automobile are the same rectangular
1:00:09 type of things. So cool.
1:00:20 >> Oh, now that I'm walking a little
1:00:20 farther up, check it out. Edward Whimper
1:00:22 also has one on the ground, not only on
1:00:25 the side of the hotel, but also on the
1:00:27 ground here.
1:00:35 a surviving member of the first time
1:00:35 anyone ever got to the peak
1:00:38 of the matter.
1:00:44 Turns out a lot of the places are
1:00:44 already closing up all the chocolate
1:00:46 shops.
1:00:48 So I might have to just rely on my
1:00:51 little matter horn cookies that I got
1:00:53 earlier that are back in my room.
1:01:01 Unless between here and there I find
1:01:01 something.
1:01:38 Take a look at this. There's a pub right
1:01:44 But then this entrance to the door looks
1:01:44 like the mountain itself. Or that almost
1:01:46 looks like a yeti's haircut.
1:01:49 Picture a yeti face right there. Right,
1:01:52 Harold.
1:01:55 This Christmas tree has a bunch of wine
1:01:56 bottles.
1:02:11 All right, back in my room now. Going to
1:02:11 devour a few, two or three or four or
1:02:14 maybe more of my Matterhorn
1:02:19 heart-shaped cookies.
1:02:28 The mountain is now hidden under the
1:02:28 shroud of nightfall up there,
1:02:32 which means Harold is out.
1:02:35 Scarald the Yeti lurks them real matter
1:02:39 do. I'm thinking
1:02:42 that's going to do it for today. Thanks
