0:03 welcome everyone adam may the woo here
0:03 this coordination of the hat in the
0:06 shirt completely unplanned in fact i
0:08 wasn't gonna wear the hat until i got my
0:10 car and realized i had this in the back
0:11 seat i thought heck i should use this to
0:13 protect myself from the sunrise even
0:14 though right now they're slightly
0:17 obscured by the clouds it might rain i
0:20 did not bring my umbrella but i did
0:22 bring
0:24 my scooter for a scooter tour of
0:25 downtown kissimmee florida something i
0:28 have not done in about a year and this
0:30 is going to be a little bit different by
0:31 the way as a recording of this wednesday
0:33 april 6
0:35 2022
0:38 scooter tour i'm gonna go through some
0:40 of the side streets and some of the
0:42 little obscure back roads that i
0:43 normally do not
0:45 traverse through because i am poofing it
0:47 now today i have this i'll be able to go
0:50 into some of the nooks and crannies of
0:52 downtown kissimmee because somebody is
0:54 about halfway between walt disney world
0:56 and saint cloud florida kind of right in
0:58 the halfway point about 20 miles from my
0:59 homestead celebration in florida i'm
1:01 inviting you
1:02 to join me
1:04 shall you and as i ride down this way
1:06 i'm noticing the little manhole cover
1:08 here that has the cows on it states that
1:11 kissimmee was founded back in 1883.
1:15 sometimes you get some pretty good
1:16 information
1:17 by just looking whatever you do
1:20 make sure you look down
1:23 that's a little sewer sewer grates sewer
1:25 holes if at all possible my game plan is
1:28 to try to discover things i did not know
1:30 little areas
1:31 that i didn't know much about
1:33 that's the plan i cannot get inside here
1:35 this is known as the field of dreams
1:38 the field of dreams is kind of sort of
1:40 locked up
1:42 yeah it's locked up that's locked but i
1:44 think you could probably just take this
1:46 and unwrap the chain i'm not going to do
1:48 that because i think the intention is to
1:49 have the field of dreams
1:51 locked i did not realize that this was
1:54 kissimmee's field of dreams
1:57 until i saw this by pulling up here
1:59 dedicated to the glory of god and honors
2:01 our clyde crotty
2:04 for his many years of faithful service
2:06 to the methodist church the field of
2:08 dreams
2:10 isn't that interesting
2:12 had no clue that there was a plot of
2:15 land
2:17 called the field of dreams and there's a
2:20 little gazebo
2:22 here as well
2:23 and it is located
2:27 right next to this newer building
2:38 just zipping right along on this thing
2:38 and also over here is a old-timey
2:41 baseball fencing behind home plate
2:57 is the sun drop-in center
2:58 at 5-1-2 on this corner
3:00 a little housing development a little
3:02 community which i did never even really
3:05 understood or even knew it existed
3:08 until riding by on this on this on the
3:10 little scooter didn't know this was here
3:12 the shopping cart here
3:17 some of these businesses i have to
3:19 wonder if they're even still open
3:22 example the hutch
3:25 and such now it does say closed on the
3:27 door now this looks like it's been
3:29 active recently
3:30 but the sign up there has been taken
3:32 down you can faintly make out the words
3:34 the hutch and such now i'm going to say
3:37 this place definitely
3:39 not in business anymore but it still has
3:41 the signage
3:42 up top as well
3:48 even though the letters have been
3:48 removed you can still read the wording
3:50 there
3:51 i like this building though with the
3:53 pillars here on the side
3:55 and that's peeking in the dirty window
3:57 here
3:58 my camera right up right to the glass
4:07 728
4:08 john young
4:09 it is a very beautiful area
4:12 i had contemplated moving to downtown
4:14 kissimmee i was still still a few blocks
4:16 away from the downtown area
4:18 but it was one of the places i thought
4:19 about moving back to saint cloud thought
4:21 about moving here to downtown kissimmee
4:23 i chose celebration i'm pretty happy
4:25 with my decision
4:26 but this is a beautiful area
4:28 i like this one over here on the corner
4:30 of vernon and my bat
4:32 it's also for sale a lot of these homes
4:35 are for sale
4:36 that's a business there but a lot of
4:38 these other ones
4:39 have for sale signs in front of them the
4:42 trees are magnificent
4:44 and it goes from
4:45 you know traditional concrete into the
4:47 old timey brick
4:49 through here
4:52 gosh i bet some of these homes are like
4:53 100 years old especially that two-story
4:55 one up here
4:56 like plantation style
5:05 right up here i was not expecting to see
5:05 this type of telephone booth
5:12 this is a surprise you never know what
5:12 you're gonna find
5:14 oh this telephone booth has been
5:17 converted into
5:24 a library they put the kickstand down
5:24 yeah this is one of those give a book
5:25 take a book libraries that's awesome
5:33 now i've seen these mobile libraries
5:33 before but i've never seen one in a
5:36 telephone booth like this
5:39 that cool
5:49 some really great looking homes through
5:51 here some of them need a little bit of
5:53 work
5:55 they're pretty fantastic
6:02 this one has a balcony all the way at
6:02 the top i like that
6:04 way up there like a third floor balcony
6:08 here's someone on the golf cart coming
6:10 by
6:17 okay inside here there's a little
6:17 alleyway
6:18 there are these two painted murals
6:20 but then inside the alley with the
6:23 old-timey tile work down here this gate
6:26 is open
6:27 but there's a barber shop over to the
6:29 side there's these little
6:31 paintings here
6:34 all through here take a look at these
6:38 the angel wings
6:40 i never knew this was back in here just
6:42 tucked away in this alley
6:45 some picture frames
6:55 you know what that reminds me of i think
6:55 there's a room in the in muppet visions
6:57 at hollywood studios which i think was
6:59 the last jim henson project heavy worked
7:01 on before he passed away
7:03 it kind of reminds me of the little
7:05 atrium from muppet vision
7:07 and that one scene i don't know why
7:10 didn't mean to have a muppet muppets
7:11 reference in there but yeah
7:13 okay now we're coming back out the back
7:15 inside
7:16 glad these gates were open
7:29 pretty neat
7:29 a little bit of a breeze out here today
7:31 too
7:41 got no not only the u.s not only the
7:41 state but also the city flag up there
7:43 waving in the breeze the kissimmee city
7:46 flag florida state
7:48 and the u.s flag
7:50 waving in the breeze it's a nice day
7:52 a lot of good murals around here there's
7:55 one up there of a bird up on the top
7:56 over there there's another one right
7:58 here around this corner this is the
7:59 corner of east darlington
8:01 and broadway there is a tiger
8:04 which i don't recall this being here
8:06 last year when i was kind of
8:08 perusing around there's been a lot of
8:10 murals added
8:13 in recent years this tiger
8:16 and they always like to show the artists
8:19 if the artist's name is on there
8:24 and if you follow this around to the
8:24 corner of pleasant street
8:26 you have these which date back from gosh
8:28 i don't know how many decades these
8:30 paintings are here's richie's barber
8:32 shop
8:33 then you got carly's candies and cakes
8:36 got a clown down here
8:39 i've showed this before i always like to
8:42 pop in back here to this little side
8:44 street
8:46 next to the parking garage this is a
8:48 parking garage not a business
8:50 this is all parking free touhou square
8:52 parking garage
8:54 i like that this still exists and has
8:56 not been painted over or tagged up or
8:58 anything
8:59 pretty cool this might be richie
9:02 that might be his barber shop richie's
9:04 barber shop there's a couple guests down
9:05 in there
9:06 waiting to get their hair cut
9:08 this is neat
9:10 matadors taco
9:12 bar has this
9:14 sweet transportation device here
9:16 underneath another mural
9:18 and these horses
9:20 here at broadway plaza now one block
9:23 down at i think it's called three
9:24 sisters bar and grill they used to have
9:27 one of the epcot
9:30 you know not shuttle buses but the the
9:32 epcot omni buses the two-story omnibuses
9:35 down there one more block next to make
9:37 as its hardware there's a whole other
9:38 subject i want to cover because making
9:39 sense has since closed
9:42 in the last five or six months or so
9:43 since i've been down here
9:45 but these have an omnibus for an
9:46 upcoming it's no longer around so i
9:48 think somewhat up north bought it used
9:49 to be right over here used to be parked
9:50 right over here where they're building
9:52 this new
9:53 structure right over there in the corner
9:54 next to making sense hardware
9:56 yeah they're building something new
9:58 no more omnibus
10:01 this whole area is growing considerably
10:03 and changing considerably
10:05 that's back in the day yeah make it says
10:06 i think don't quote me on this was one
10:08 of the oldest hardware stores
10:10 left in the state but it just closed
10:12 last year or six last six months and
10:14 just pulling around the back here
10:17 yeah hardware store is no more
10:29 yeah there it is the old making sense
10:29 hardware
10:30 those guys wanted to be in the video so
10:31 i put them in the video
10:38 hey this is the lynx bus station up here
10:38 the lease bus drop off i believe
10:41 not a lot of these
10:43 heart type of hardware stores left you
10:45 know a lot of the big box stores
10:47 kind of taken over making since held on
10:49 for a long time though
10:56 frankly i never thought they'd go away
10:56 they kind of outlasted a lot of the
10:57 other other independent ones oh my big
11:01 brimmed hat there
11:02 there's another new one
11:13 greetings from
11:13 something as you can tell when someone's
11:14 from out of town because they say
11:15 kissing me
11:16 instead of kissimmee
11:19 i say i
11:20 when i go to when i travel i always say
11:21 town names
11:23 as if i don't live there because i don't
11:24 live in a lot of towns so
11:26 it's an understate it's understandable
11:28 how someone will pronounce it
11:29 differently
11:31 the locals call it kissimmee those from
11:33 out of town call it kissimmee
11:36 excuse me how it goes
11:42 and yet another one right over there
11:42 and that noise
11:45 was cars going over the tracks right
11:47 there train tracks
11:56 and of course can't forget about the
11:56 monumental
11:57 i didn't mean to make that pun
12:00 monument of the states
12:03 very tall sculpture that's been here for
12:05 many many years
12:06 with rocks and other items from
12:08 different states across all of the us
12:17 placed here back in 1943
12:17 at least that's the date that's on
12:19 that particular
12:21 inscription the monument of states
12:34 commonwealth of pennsylvania over there
12:34 there's new hampshire
12:35 there's an item from michigan
12:38 massachusetts also represented
12:42 the governor of ohio back in 1941
12:46 gave this this little unique looking
12:48 item that looks like something from the
12:49 prehistoric age
12:51 also came from michigan
12:52 massachusetts texas kentucky
12:55 gulf of mexico up there
12:58 that little item
13:00 tennessee
13:01 indiana
13:07 got some items from arkansas
13:10 and also not just in the states but also
13:13 there's some from africa
13:18 that's from
13:18 illinois nova scotia right there
13:27 it's a stands here
13:32 now last time i was down here this
13:32 little rubies plaza was not open they
13:35 are open today so i got myself a water
13:37 here and a lot of areas down here were
13:39 blocked off you know because
13:41 the extension of what happened in 2020
13:44 and until last year
13:45 couldn't get in a certain area so the
13:47 lighthouse over there he couldn't get
13:48 you but i think today
13:49 everything is accessible so the stores
13:51 are back open at least a little cafe
13:53 and the lighthouse over there you can
13:55 see it kind of out on a little
13:56 a little walkway out to the water so go
13:58 see the lighthouse it's kind of a
14:00 relaxing day
14:59 look
14:59 big ben
15:08 closer to the water it gets a lot
15:08 windier
15:09 which makes sense but just stating the
15:11 obvious
15:19 years ago you were allowed to walk out
15:19 on this dock
15:21 those days are over
15:23 it's now restricted
15:33 hinders anyone
15:33 from going past onto the may not be
15:35 structurally sound anymore now looking
15:36 at this
15:38 probably not structurally sound
15:41 back in the day you could walk out on
15:43 this
15:46 a lot of new developments popping up
15:46 over there too apartments for condos
15:55 beautiful day the information placard
15:55 that used to be here is now gone too
16:05 and from what i recall the one it would
16:05 explain how the water
16:07 would go in here
16:10 well to be honest i don't even remember
16:11 what it's at
16:17 it's been a while since i read what was
16:17 on there it has something to do with the
16:18 lake water going into here and then
16:20 recycling around
16:22 back over at the hardware store now
16:25 i'm starting to wonder if this will be
16:27 repainted over so it probably should
16:28 document this
16:30 for posterity
16:32 just in case
16:33 i would hope it doesn't but you know
16:36 what's to say you can hope in one hand
16:37 and
16:38 you know what in the other see i don't
16:40 know what i don't know what the phrase
16:41 is
16:49 right up top there's a lady in the
16:49 window
16:52 making some hardware
17:10 carol makinson and jim jm katz opened a
17:10 general merchandise store on the corner
17:11 of darlington avenue
17:13 pleasant street
17:27 in 1883 help arrived when william
17:27 burroughs makers and senior arrived and
17:28 invested some money into carroll's
17:30 business
17:32 the following
17:34 w may vegas i took over the business and
17:35 opened what is today florida's oldest
17:38 hardware store
17:39 and kissimmee's oldest business
17:43 yeah it was
17:44 florida's oldest hardware store
17:47 it's now gone
18:18 there's a store over here that looks
18:18 interesting called the hollow pumpkin
18:21 now they are closed at the moment
18:22 beetlejuice here
18:24 beetlejuice has said that they are
18:26 closed i'm not going to say his name one
18:27 more time and he'll come to life
18:30 that's like a pretty cool little place
18:32 gift shop for the
18:34 spooky obsessed their slogans house
18:37 only open on the weekends and back over
18:39 to the parking lot where my car is
18:40 parked
18:41 put the scooter away and drive around
18:43 with some a few other spots
18:52 that old ambulance that just went by was
18:52 now used for a plumbing business that
18:54 was interesting
19:00 looks as if this grocery store has
19:00 finally closed now before it was a
19:02 sedanos or sedanos
19:05 it was an albertsons
19:07 that's what i recall it as when i lived
19:10 in this area in the 90s i lived in
19:12 kissimmee i lived in saint cloud for a
19:14 while i lived in kissimmee in the late
19:16 90s early 2000s
19:18 it was an albert since i would do my
19:20 grocery shopping here
19:22 and next to albertsons
19:25 but this took over for albertsons and
19:26 then this closed recently since the last
19:28 time i was passed by here
19:30 and over next to the pharmacy on this
19:32 end
19:33 it's like a clothing store but that
19:35 clothing store used to be a music store
19:37 now back in the early 90s 93 94
19:41 around then 92 93 94.
19:44 i got my license in 91 i was 17 i
19:47 started driving around
19:48 and started buying cassettes and bought
19:51 cds
19:53 over at a music store over there they
19:55 had a ticketmaster booth now it's called
19:57 donato
19:58 clothing
20:04 and right inside there i would go in and
20:04 i would ask the employee
20:06 what concerts are coming to town and
20:08 they would list off the concerts i'd say
20:10 i'll take two of those i'll take two of
20:11 those i'll take two of those that would
20:13 just go to a mess load of concerts i'd
20:15 always ask a friend to go i bought my
20:18 nirvana and breeder's ticket
20:20 in lakeland in florida i bought it right
20:22 inside there
20:24 from ticketmaster just before the
20:26 internet you couldn't just search what
20:27 bands were coming through
20:29 you had to
20:30 had to go to either ticketmaster or get
20:32 a magazine and had it in or see it in
20:33 the paper
20:34 but that's where i bought my my hard
20:36 ticket to nirvana right in there that it
20:38 was now
20:39 the clothing store now when i worked
20:41 here it was office max
20:43 worked here five years
20:45 then after i left they merged into
20:47 office depot it was office depot for a
20:50 while now
20:51 it's going to be a planet fitness
20:57 look at that
20:57 looks like getting a little behind the
20:59 scenes
21:00 construction update no more office max
21:03 no more office depot
21:04 putting the sign up here planet fitness
21:08 well they changed the front doors too
21:10 right next to the osceola mall used to
21:12 be attached to the osceola mall the
21:13 mall's called
21:14 something different now
21:16 there were two movie theaters this is
21:18 one of them the other one's been
21:19 converted into something that's been
21:21 utilized for
21:22 something different for many years now
21:24 but this one
21:25 was under renovations
21:27 but now the construction has just kind
21:29 of halted but you could tell it used to
21:31 be a movie theater
21:33 fact
21:41 right over there is where the posters
21:41 were
21:42 and you can even see
21:44 some of the original signage that says
21:46 enter over there on that end
21:56 extreme close-up
21:56 zoomed way in
21:58 yeah this place has been closed for a
22:00 long time as i'm driving back towards
22:02 celebration here on highway 192
22:05 pirates island adventure golf
22:08 from what i can tell
22:11 is no longer quite operational closed
22:16 either temporarily or for good
22:19 there have been a lot of miniature golf
22:21 courses on 192 that have fallen by the
22:23 wayside over the years wouldn't surprise
22:25 me if it's permanent
22:26 i hope it's not because this was an
22:28 awesome
22:30 place with the pirate ship and
22:32 everything the grass is a little grown
22:34 over
22:35 some of the props have fallen down this
22:37 headstone here
22:44 yeah i see it's kind of
22:44 the woods decomposing
22:55 i used to work at a miniature golf
22:55 course river adventure golf
22:57 also now abandoned
23:00 grown over really nothing lafay removed
23:02 most of everything
23:11 you obviously don't want to jump to any
23:11 conclusions it could just be closed for
23:13 the time being but
23:26 our matey a foul smell
23:26 be assured it ain't our sea he thinks
23:28 it's that village sewer tank
23:30 the lift station
23:32 ah over there
23:38 i did play a round of golf here
23:38 years ago it's been
23:40 i don't know
23:41 20 years
23:43 here's blackbeard's challenge
23:51 the interesting thing is i didn't see
23:51 any signage of any type saying
23:54 open closed
23:56 stay off the property nothing
23:59 just traffic going right by there
24:06 in fact when i pulled up there was
24:06 someone else who i thought worked here
24:09 walking around and i realized
24:11 it wasn't an employee or an owner it was
24:13 just someone else just looking around
24:15 looks as if some skateboarders came in
24:16 here laid some wood down using that as a
24:18 ramp
24:23 nice little skate spot
24:23 ah what's the saying another one bites
24:25 the dust
24:29 i could be wrong
24:29 i hope i'm wrong
24:32 let's just say i'm wrong
24:42 hope i'm wrong
24:42 everything's pretty much been removed
24:43 from the front counter and the office
24:46 area
24:55 good photo op there reminds me of the
24:55 one in magic kingdom
24:58 coming out of frontierland on the way to
24:59 the haunted mansion
25:12 at the bell up there this place is
25:13 i'm always sad when a miniature golf
25:14 course
25:15 goes away at some point in the future
