0:01 looks like it's going to be another
0:02 beautiful Texas day just cruising down
0:06 the
0:07 road just cruising down the road
0:11 entering into
0:13 Castroville established
0:15 1844 need a little gas and what the heck
0:18 would we do without these self-pumping
0:21 mechanisms on the nozzles makes it very
0:24 convenient it pumps it while you sit
0:27 back and watch I mean I could easily
0:29 reach my hand out and do the job myself
0:31 but you know it's funner just to Stand
0:45 8888 and pennies I'm in the town square
0:45 area now and there are eight Flags very
0:49 tattered Flags in the park I kind of
0:53 wonder if at one
0:55 point this was a fountain and not just a
0:58 planter and then over time they just got
1:01 rid of the water
1:03 and put some foliage in it and it also
1:06 looks like someone has been using it as
1:09 a golf driving range it's a golf ball
1:13 right there that's a very impressive
1:16 steeple on that church building since
1:18 1847 the town has held a tradition of St
1:22 Louis day and his best I can figure this
1:25 is a statue of St Louis and they March
1:28 out of the church and they use the
1:31 entire Courtyard for a big Feast the men
1:35 smoke sausage and a pit barbecued beef
1:38 the women prepare potato salad cabbage
1:41 SLO and desserts now that sounds like my
1:44 kind of festivities the only question is
1:46 how does this guy stay so
2:26 that was pretty cool the door was open
2:26 so I walked in there and just hung out
2:28 in the Pew for a while
2:31 beautiful in there nice Serene Courtyard
2:34 here on the side the incredible thing is
2:37 to think that the first congregation met
2:39 there in 1870 it's amazing to think
2:42 about Generations passed way before we
2:46 were even an
2:47 inkling in
2:50 existence our parents weren't even here
2:54 grandparents people were here living
2:57 their lives enjoying life
3:00 life and now they are part of History
3:04 we are creating history what we do will
3:08 one day be
3:10 remembered in the future we present
3:14 day are history it's hard to wrap your
3:17 head around but it's true if these walls
3:19 could talk I'm sure it could tell a heck
3:22 of a few good stories Dan bar and right
3:26 down the road here is an old theater
3:28 called the rainbow looks to be an
3:32 antique store now but the sign is still
3:34 there the
3:36 awning and the ticket booth even though
3:39 there was a bunch of stuff out front the
3:41 door was locked it wasn't open I was
3:43 hoping to get in and see maybe if the
3:45 movie screen was still in there but no
3:47 such luck in 1910 this brick building
3:50 was constructed and this corner became
3:52 very very popular because this was where
3:55 the town got its meat if you were hungry
3:58 and you wanted a steak
4:00 you would get your food here at the Hans
4:02 Meat Market signified
4:06 1910 the top of the building when I see
4:08 homesteads like this that no one resides
4:11 in anymore you can't help think about
4:15 the good times that were had here in
4:18 fact there is a piano located on the
4:22 porch probably quite a few
4:25 throwdowns back in the day you can just
4:28 picture an old man with a pipe sitting
4:30 in a rocking chair enjoying the nice
4:34 Cool Breeze and now this Kitty is
4:38 remembering you remember
4:40 Kitty remember the good old days never
4:44 forget never forget oh my gosh look at
4:48 this Relic pinned against the fence back
4:53 there awesome in 1868 The Sisters of the
4:57 Divine Providence opened this
4:59 Schoolhouse and the children in town
5:02 gathered here to do their learning
5:05 reading
5:07 writing and
5:14 arithmetic it's now used as a meeting
5:17 area a
5:19 sanctuary for a local
5:37 the sign says this is God's country
5:37 please don't drive through it like hell
5:41 oh my gosh look at this old hotel
5:43 there's a value Max there now you can
5:45 see the old neon
5:48 Marquee Hotel Armstrong that means only
5:51 one thing I am in Hondo and when I hear
5:55 that name I am always reminded of
5:59 Married With Children Al Bundy his
6:02 favorite movie was the John Wayne
6:04 classic Hondo and he was never able to
6:08 watch it something always happened when
6:11 he wanted to see
6:13 Hondo I don't think it was based on this
6:15 town but whoa you have the rideway cat
6:20 here in Hondo cats have the rideway keep
6:23 this in mind for future reference if
6:25 you're cruising down this road might
6:28 want to heed that
6:42 it construction on this church building
6:42 started in
6:44 1853 about a decade later they finished
6:47 it up by adding some more of the Rocks I
6:50 really do not know the reasoning on why
6:53 it fell into deterioration like
6:56 this but it is pretty amazing looking
6:59 feel look very closely on the side of
7:01 the building is an engraving probably
7:04 with a date stamp or a name over time
7:08 the weather has worn it thin as well as
7:11 the letters d o m at the top portion of
7:16 the entryway that's being held up now by
7:20 2x4s the interesting thing about this
7:23 cemetery is that none of the graves are
7:27 newer than 1893 three now you can find
7:30 graveyards with plots dating back that
7:33 far but normally they progress and newer
7:36 resting places are added but not this
7:39 one the bunny rabbit over there startled
7:42 me you got me good bunny I thought you
7:44 were a snake in 1893 the town suffered a
7:48 massive epidemic and they needed to
7:51 build another graveyard thus retiring
7:55 this one next to this cross is a flag
7:57 pole but there's also so this metal
8:01 cylinder looking thing what is
8:10 this what is that used for I really like
8:10 the fact that even though the headstones
8:12 are dated
8:14 1846 there are still flowers here people
8:16 come out and pay their respects to the
8:20 original Town
8:22 settlers all these years later their
8:24 memory is still
8:35 I find old cemeteries very fascinating I
8:35 love history and for a lot of people
8:38 this is the last momento or tidbit of
8:42 their life that they can share with
8:44 future Generations in the world some
8:47 people are not in the history books some
8:49 people may be forgotten but by seeing
8:51 headstones and reading who they were and
8:54 their names and the years they lived a
8:56 little bit of them will always live live
8:59 on and the state of Texas obviously
9:01 feels the same way they erected this
9:03 monument in 1936 dedicated to the former
9:07 town of danas I think I'm the only one
9:10 out
9:11 here the only one on this
9:14 road just me and Large Marge well I
9:17 guess that makes two of us okay there's
9:19 two of us on this road not just one but
9:24 two and that's how many it takes to
9:27 tango no traffic jams in this neck of
9:30 the woods don't have to worry about
9:33 Bumper to
9:35 Bumper congestion beautiful landscape
9:39 out this way
9:40 though lots of
9:42 cows see all those
9:48 cows lots of cows what do you think's
9:51 behind that big metal
9:53 fence very heavily
9:56 guarded dinosaurs kept back there there
9:59 is
10:00 that is that the real Jurassic Park back
10:04 in there I am virtually out in the
10:06 middle of
10:07 nowhere driving down this very bumpy
10:11 road not really sure where I'm going to
10:14 be honest look at this look at this I
10:17 mean I'm seriously where the heck where
10:21 the heck am I for real what are they
10:24 keeping back there I've wandered down a
10:27 road of secrecy
10:29 Less Traveled yes but also home to
10:35 mysteries on either
10:37 side what's behind those fences
10:40 whoa we have some civilization or at
10:44 least what looks to be civilization and
10:48 a huge
10:50 Lake Straight Ahead some Cliffs up there
10:55 this road was not made for an R
10:59 V going straight down it's been spray
11:02 painted out it says something not
11:04 allowed on bridge I'm doing it though
11:07 I'm doing it I'm going over this thing I
11:10 made it to the
11:12 top look at this water on one side dry
11:17 land on the
11:29 other that dog doesn't want me here
11:29 well hello
11:31 there well hello there oh hello there
11:34 little
11:36 baby hope you guys are having a good
11:39 day you're following me this yard is
11:41 like a boat full of Santa Claus
11:44 dummies very
11:46 random very random and then there's a
11:48 baby doll on top of a burned out
11:52 airplane dangling from that tree
11:56 limb the entire property is just C
11:59 covered in weird stuff I got to be
12:01 honest I'm getting a very weird vibe
12:04 about this little town I'm in when I got
12:07 to the top of the hill to overlook that
12:09 Lake there was a guy looking out the
12:11 window of his little two-story Shack and
12:14 he was kind of giving me the evil eye
12:16 that's when his dog start started
12:18 barking and when I pulled over to get a
12:20 view of that yard the property owner was
12:23 driving by and stopped started to like
12:26 walk towards the RV and I just kept
12:28 driving
12:30 I don't think I'm supposed to be up here
12:32 maybe the name of the town is Mo m i and
12:36 I'm fairly certain they don't get many
12:38 out of town visitors up
12:42 here going to start heading back to San
12:45 Antonio now have a very special
12:47 announcement that I want to tell you
12:49 about this Sunday February 5th at 2:00
12:51 p.m. sharp I will be doing a Meetup
12:55 right
12:56 here next to these boots
12:59 I'm not sure if they were saying hi or
13:00 if they were just excited about the
13:02 boots we will be congregating at a store
13:04 inside the North Star Mall I know you're
13:07 not paying attention to where it says
13:09 North and star you just can't keep your
13:11 eyes off Texas's largest boots I guess
13:14 the real question is are you going to be
13:18 there there's no reason to bring
13:19 anything except yourselves wa that was
13:22 very close that guy almost got in a
13:29 wreck
13:29 this is a pretty big place so I need to
13:31 tell you the specific location of where
13:33 we're going to hang out the name of the
13:35 place that is gracious to host this
13:37 event is called Think Geek and it's on
13:42 level B which would be right next to the
13:47 food
13:52 court right
13:52 here I meant to say section B but it is
13:55 on level
13:57 two
14:02 once you're on the top level in the
14:02 midst of all the eating
14:05 establishments just look across the way
14:07 there and there it is Think Geek just
14:11 keep a keen eye out for this guy cuz
14:13 he's probably going to be looming around
14:15 from the bottom floor pass hellberg
14:17 diamonds go up the escalator and it's
14:21 right next to the Dallas Cowboy shop
14:25 parking at the mall is free and
14:26 obviously admission in the store is free
14:29 so all you have to do is just bring
14:30 yourself maybe your camera if you want
14:32 to get some
14:33 pictures and just show up it'll be fun
14:36 this is something I never knew existed a
14:39 Back to the Future book decorated like
14:42 the hoverboard from 2015 it's like a
14:45 notebook it's like a diary I hope to see
14:47 you here this Sunday February 5th 2:00
