0:03 welcome everyone adam the woo here
0:03 i am under the belly of this beast
0:06 the cabazon dinosaurs i am about to
0:08 embark
0:10 on a 2500 26 27
0:13 how close to 3 mile trek i've already
0:17 been driving for about an hour
0:18 current time 6 a.m i'm heading
0:22 to the east coast back to florida not in
0:24 a rental car
0:26 in my own vehicle not on a plane
0:30 it is brisk out here and very windy
0:34 i'm inviting you to join me shall you
0:37 so early in fact the sun is peaking up
0:40 there
0:41 in all its beauty and the two
0:44 restaurants here
0:46 are not even quite open yet
0:50 the wheel in has been demolished now
0:52 some of the spots i will be
0:54 traversing down most of which well
0:57 all of which will be on interstate 10
1:00 and there is a valentine's day overlay
1:05 on the dinos themselves
1:08 you can see it says love there on the
1:12 side
1:12 and be mine on
1:16 mr rex there at the end
1:22 yeah it's very windy out here i have my
1:22 hand
1:22 cupped over the microphone hoping
1:26 that will help quite a bit as well as
1:28 the little wind
1:29 muff that is on there
1:38 see the gustiness there
1:38 the trees going in the wind
1:42 i'm about to get on interstate 10 and
1:44 head westbound
1:46 all of which i will be showing over the
1:47 next series of days
1:50 we'll be right off the i'm going to
1:52 interstate
1:54 to make as much time as possible tagging
1:57 along also for this journey
1:59 is big the foot just dangling there
2:04 i know i think about peewee's big
2:06 adventure very prominently
2:08 as well big the foot
2:11 when i look at mr rex there but i also
2:14 think of the wizard
2:15 with fred savage
2:22 i always like kind of swinging by this
2:22 spot
2:29 classic goodness and not the backside of
2:29 water
2:31 but the backside of a pink dino
2:50 all right onto the thoroughfare looks
2:50 like there's some snow caps up there on
2:52 the top of those peaks
2:54 and also these windmills just spinning
2:58 around doing their thing
3:04 the good thing about this truck so just
3:04 stay
3:05 on this road no need for real directions
3:08 just
3:08 continue eastbound
3:14 on the tent i'll get off at a few exits
3:14 here and there
3:19 focusing out on
3:27 sunset over there back and forth
3:27 sunrise am i saying sunset sunrise
3:30 i still haven't had coffee yet so my
3:32 brain is not coherent
3:34 veered off just a bit to this downtown
3:36 area of
3:37 india this taco stand burger
3:42 spot looks really fascinating
3:56 not exactly a beehive of activity
3:56 oh goodness what happened there at the
3:59 moment down here
4:06 we're all familiar with lines in the
4:06 middle of a
4:07 highway by the way are these petunias
4:12 did you know that the reason for those
4:14 the creator was dr
4:16 june robertson mccarroll who back in
4:19 1917
4:20 according to this placard veered off the
4:23 road
4:24 from an oncoming automobile
4:27 and personally right after that it
4:30 states here
4:32 that she personally
4:35 painted the first stripe in california
4:39 on indio boulevard separating
4:43 the road into two sections
4:50 i never knew that and there is some
4:50 glass
5:03 all right just a little little quick pit
5:03 stop
5:05 i'm off the interstate interstate's over
5:07 there this is just a little highway
5:09 current price here at this station
5:11 325 for for unleaded i don't know if
5:14 there's a difference between unleaded
5:15 plus and
5:16 premium let's just go with uh
5:20 just the regular self-pumping
5:23 nozzle here all you got to do is just
5:27 put that little switch on i'm going to
5:29 go inside and get myself a piping hot
5:31 beverage
5:32 once i'm filled up at this establishment
5:34 of coffee a little caffeine for the day
5:37 beautiful countryside out here just
5:39 cruising through california
5:41 the deserts of california when you think
5:44 of los
5:44 angeles i think a cityscape you don't
5:46 really think of desert
5:48 not a classic car alert
5:52 a truck the technical population of
5:55 desert center
5:56 it's just about 200 people pretty much
5:59 an abandoned town
6:09 whenever i pass through here i always
6:09 think of the airwolf
6:11 episode from the mid 80s with jan
6:14 michael vincent
6:16 or flies the helicopter through here
6:21 through this very stretch of road
6:31 in fact the station was right up here
6:32 it explodes a little bit of a fire
6:36 had developed also this building
6:40 the side of the ride up there was also
6:42 utilized
6:44 i think my favorite performance by well
6:47 favorite thing he started
6:49 was in the early 70s a charles bronson
6:51 film
6:52 by the name of the mechanic an amazing
6:55 ending i don't want to give any spoilers
6:56 but the ending to that film
7:03 incredible
7:03 yeah right here was used as an office in
7:05 that airwolf episode
7:12 the cafe you see someone has
7:12 just pulled up here someone has spray
7:14 painted on the inside
7:17 says best coffee you best coffee
7:21 i already procured a cup a moment ago
7:25 from the other establishment
7:27 you best not remove the caffeine well we
7:31 best remove the caffeine
7:37 truck driver driving by is looking at me
7:37 like
7:38 what is wrong with you sir is what he's
7:40 saying this
7:42 you can rent this out well obviously you
7:43 can the exteriors you can see
7:46 from just out here so you can just kind
7:48 of wander around and show it but if you
7:49 would if you have a production that
7:51 you're
7:52 you know music video a movie
7:55 television show commercial say you
7:58 wanted to
8:00 use the interiors it is a location that
8:03 you can
8:04 call the number and and rent it out
8:16 real quick like though peeking in the
8:16 window here you can see
8:18 what's inside there it's like a kind of
8:20 old school diner
8:23 pretty neat would be a perfect location
8:28 for some desert scenes if you were
8:30 making a film
8:38 and in that episode the episode of
8:38 airwolf is called sweet
8:40 riches i'm not joking that's the real
8:43 name of if you want to look it up
8:45 and flies right by here
8:55 right down this this desolate road
8:55 continued up the ways i don't know maybe
8:58 10 15 20 miles to the community of blyth
9:04 look at all these sheep out here in the
9:06 field
9:08 there's someone walking through grass
9:10 there is that a
9:16 modern-day shepherd
9:16 they even see this sheepdog out there
9:20 yeah there's a lot a lot of sheep
9:27 i just pulled right over here off the
9:27 off the road you see the trucks going by
9:35 it's probably two or three hundred sheep
9:36 here in blythe right on the state line
9:40 almo almost over the state california
9:42 line
9:50 okay see you later sheep
9:50 crossing over this river the colorado
9:52 river
9:53 i'm not going into colorado but i have
9:56 just crossed into
9:57 arizona out of california
10:01 see you later for now california
10:04 according to the signs
10:06 that is dome rock because the sign said
10:10 dome rock road leads over there so i'm
10:13 just assuming
10:15 that that is dome rock
10:24 stopping off in quartzite to say hello
10:24 to hi jolly i was gonna say hi to hi
10:28 jolly but that just
10:29 wouldn't make sense here's a camel
10:41 the last camp of high jolly
10:42 stone marks the resting place of high
10:44 jolly
10:52 also known as philip tedrow
10:52 hi jolly was hired in 1857 as a camel
10:55 herder
10:58 little breeze there gust of wind
11:05 i always stop by this is like one of the
11:05 stopping points probably half a dozen
11:07 times
11:09 over the course of my life it is on
11:13 the national register of historic places
11:17 take a look at that it was also
11:19 designated in 1935 by the arizona
11:23 highway department with this little
11:25 placard
11:27 camel driver packer scout over 30 years
11:32 of faithful service
11:42 1902
11:42 born in 1828
12:01 here at coresight quartzite is one of
12:01 the biggest congregations of
12:03 rvers certain times of the year
12:06 thousands upon thousands
12:10 congregate here all right moving on
12:13 you know what's interesting i have heard
12:15 the stories have been told by
12:17 by many people and i even
12:21 i even thought i even bought into the
12:23 fact
12:25 that it was a camel laid over there
12:29 in fact it was a man
12:33 by the name of high jolly not a camel
12:36 but he was a camel herder i was way off
12:43 glad i'm glad i read the info here
12:44 because that that clears it up for me
12:46 so just to clarify it is not a camel
12:50 well as best i can guess it's not a
12:52 camel there
12:53 it's a man who was known for herding
12:56 camels not hurting her herd
13:01 in kind of like that that modern-day
13:04 shepherd
13:04 a few miles back there's a photo of him
13:07 right there and his bride
13:33 arrived in buckeye i'm curious what is
13:33 that
13:34 drum looking item there on the pole next
13:38 to the tree it looks like
13:40 it's like a kick drum nonetheless
13:43 next to this residential area is
13:47 hobo joe that is the name
13:50 the town has given him 20
13:53 something feet tall hobo joe
13:57 is very impressive as far as the the
14:00 height of
14:02 of him he's got a flower there on his
14:06 lapel little scarf around his neck well
14:10 actually no it's not a scarf it's a
14:12 like a bandana almost as if he knew
14:16 the the current situation was going to
14:18 be happening when he was
14:20 when he rolled into town years ago he's
14:23 ready
14:23 to just like slip it up over the chin
14:25 and the nose and he's all set
14:27 oh his shoe here
14:30 this seemed better days but he's still
14:32 got some
14:33 still got some years on it
14:36 oh there's the sculptor's name jim casey
14:41 1967. i would have guessed it was a
14:44 little
14:44 more recent than that than that
14:58 there's a car wash right over there you
14:58 can hear a vehicle
15:01 being cleaned at the moment hobo joe is
15:05 overlooking the cleaning mechanism
15:10 i could probably get a at some point on
15:13 this journey i'm gonna get a
15:15 get the car wash my car washed
15:23 later on maybe another day or so
15:23 it's very dusty out here i feel like i
15:24 get a wash now
15:26 it's gonna just kind of get dirty again
15:27 in like five minutes
15:29 carrying on it's nice to kind of stretch
15:31 the legs a little bit but
15:33 kind of cooped up
15:41 okay back on the road carrying on now
15:41 about 10 or 15 miles from the last spot
15:44 into phoenix this yard looks very
15:48 interesting
15:49 there is quite a bit of things collected
15:53 state's new york city limit that
15:55 obviously is not correct
15:57 there's a coca-cola piece of signage
16:02 we got oh there's groot on the tin
16:06 man's noggin also says chicago city
16:10 limit also not correct
16:13 sorry the lot is full in that very large
16:16 bird cage
16:22 wow this is fascinating this is in
16:24 someone's yard
16:26 quite the collection oh i see ronald
16:30 back in there there's
16:37 oh ronnie mcdonald and check that out
16:37 a vintage muffler man these are
16:40 scattered all over the u.s
16:42 i always try to find them i don't think
16:43 i've ever seen this one before i've
16:45 never been in this neighborhood
16:47 that is great he's holding an axe not a
16:49 muffler
16:50 the reason they're called muffler men is
16:53 because they
16:53 they used to be utilized by
16:56 establishments that would fix your car
16:59 and they would have a muffler out front
17:00 they would fix your muffler so he would
17:02 be holding a muffler
17:04 you can see by the design of his hands
17:07 that it would be set up to have a
17:08 muffler just kind of
17:10 teetering there in his arms
17:13 so hence the name muffler men
17:16 is that hercules i think that's hercules
17:20 over there also and someone yelling it's
17:23 like an
17:24 usher that is yelling
17:27 it says speed limit nine and a half
17:30 right there yard of the month okay this
17:33 got an award
17:35 for yard of the month and there's a
17:37 mcdonald's
17:38 golden arches up top this is great
17:41 it says beware of dog i wonder if we
17:43 have a dog on site i don't see a dog
17:46 you have better beware of that muffler
17:48 man that
17:50 is that's awesome
17:53 they got the right idea with the thumbs
17:56 up
18:02 yes all right heading back over to i-10
18:02 now
18:04 this is great i had no idea there would
18:07 be
18:08 this much stuff tucked away in this
18:10 there's a cactus with a mustache
18:15 tim tracker well
18:18 vintage tim tracker cactus
18:22 tim doesn't have the the rolly fingers
18:25 mustache
18:27 style anymore he's got a beard
18:35 that's how that's how i always
18:35 refer to anything with a mustache
18:43 there's the statue of liberty with
18:43 glasses
18:45 and a lucky number seven and some bold
18:48 broken bowling pins there
18:49 and a snowman
18:58 so good there's a real cactus
18:58 off in the distance see the real cactus
18:59 over there very tall
19:01 real cactus the next corner
19:04 going westbound the opposite direction
19:07 of the way i'm going
19:08 it is very backed up for
19:11 gosh probably 5 or 10 miles there was an
19:15 accident
19:16 and i passed a few miles back everyone's
19:19 out of their cars
19:20 wondering what's happening
19:24 quite a bit of a backup
19:30 you see it's just all a complete stand
19:30 still it's like this for
19:33 probably the last three or four miles of
19:35 as far but far
19:36 down the way as i can see
19:44 just outside phoenix
19:44 heading in westbound i'm heading east
19:52 smooth sailing for me but for everyone
19:52 else over there
19:54 you got to be patient i've been there
19:56 i've been i've been in that situation
19:58 before where you just have to wait
20:00 be patient
20:18 current price 241 here another
20:18 self-pumping nozzle and i'm gonna go and
20:21 get another piping hot beverage inside
20:23 this circle k
20:25 no luck on the coffee there was quite a
20:27 bit of a line inside and only one
20:28 cashier
20:29 so got in my car drove a little farther
20:33 down the freeway
20:34 and i'm noticing this in front of this
20:38 restaurant side
20:39 which is no longer there's a little
20:40 gazebo and
20:43 picacho peak
20:46 which is this mountainous formation
20:51 look there used to be something here as
20:53 well
20:54 it has been torn down but this used to
20:58 possibly a muffler man
21:02 style figure that went up
21:06 just basically to his torso just to the
21:08 waist
21:10 it's all been removed it's got a fence
21:13 around it
21:14 not really serving any purpose
21:16 whatsoever but it does have a fence
21:25 there's another restaurant here the
21:25 series
21:27 of forgotten relics along this road saw
21:36 and this road that runs parallel to i-10
21:36 really is not utilized you can see it's
21:37 pretty desolate
21:39 it's a very busy traffic just off to the
21:41 side there with the other side oh
21:44 hello there b you should not be on my
21:47 steering wheel b
21:49 can i help you
21:55 uh go out the window i open the window
21:56 fly
21:56 out the window b okay now you're hiding
21:59 b
21:59 there you are b go on
22:02 go go go go get out there go go whoo go
22:05 go get out let go stay out there stay
22:07 out there b
22:08 whoo close one
22:13 really are a lot of cactuses through
22:15 here
22:21 there's a very retro rv parked over
22:22 next to that tower but yeah there's just
22:24 like hundreds of
22:27 cacti through here
22:39 i know i'm moving by at a very rapid
22:39 pace and it's way over there
22:42 but there are a lot of airplanes that
22:45 are no longer being used
22:48 a bunch of airplanes way over there
22:52 just parked in the middle of nowhere
22:57 way over there kind of zoomed in but
23:00 going by very rapidly with the foliage
23:03 zooming by
23:05 you can see about lots of them
23:11 not accessible to the public
23:21 pretty neat found yet another muffler
23:21 man
23:22 holding another pickaxe this one right
23:25 on the outskirts of
23:27 tucson arizona and i believe i'm gonna
23:30 stop here for the evening
23:33 by all accounts i looked up the distance
23:35 and just about
23:36 500 miles i accomplished today
23:39 i think that's a good that's a good
23:41 start for this cross-country road trip
23:47 if you enjoyed this particular episode
