0:09 elbows off the table
0:09 welcome everyone
0:10 adam the woo here as a recording of this
0:12 friday may 27
0:14 2022 also known
0:17 as my last day of california for a while
0:20 leaving in the morning
0:22 and i figured what better way to spend
0:24 the day
0:25 for daphne
0:27 going up and down
0:29 sunset strip yeah
0:31 known for a lot of things that i know
0:33 but you're going to teach me a thing or
0:35 two about some monthly crew history
0:39 in fact you have a list you made it you
0:40 have i think so we're just basically
0:42 going to walk that up and down sunset
0:44 strip sunset boulevard coming out of
0:46 hollywood into west hollywood turns into
0:49 the strip and we're just going to see
0:51 what we can see you'll share some info
0:53 with me
0:54 i'll share some info with you we'll put
0:56 our infos together see what we come up
0:58 with
1:00 what are one of the give me one or two
1:01 things that you that you're really
1:02 excited about about showing me on the
1:04 show oh my gosh um the house their
1:06 apartment
1:08 is okay and then
1:11 also
1:12 i'm really excited for where we might
1:14 eat lunch too oh no spoilers
1:16 i want to see the viper room because
1:18 supposedly they're tearing the viper
1:19 room down
1:21 once owned by johnny depp river phoenix
1:23 passed away in the front sidewalk
1:25 a piece of hollywood west hollywood
1:27 history is going away so this might be
1:29 my last time seeing
1:30 that building
1:32 did monday crew ever played there
1:34 um tommy lee got into a fight outside of
1:36 it
1:37 and he had to pay 17 000 to the um
1:40 paparazzi betty's lunch and the
1:42 paparazzi wow
1:44 you know a lot of it you know a lot
1:45 about molly crew all right i'm inviting
1:47 you to join me
1:52 that's a good thing i didn't bring my
1:52 scooter also a lot of hollywood tours
1:55 go through here as well
1:58 now this is something that's kind of
2:00 interesting history this is a rocky and
2:02 bullwinkle statue that used to be down
2:05 over in front of chateau marmont now he
2:06 pronounced it marmont yes he used to be
2:08 in front of there where the production
2:10 facilities of this animated
2:13 classic were and it was put in storage
2:15 this this sculpture was put in storage
2:18 for like 10 years
2:19 and no one knew what happened to it but
2:21 in the last year or so i'm just trying
2:22 to
2:24 trying to just kind of shimmy along
2:25 these flowers are those petunias
2:27 i guess i could have just walked around
2:33 but they have brought this back out and
2:33 perched it here on the corner of
2:35 holloway drive
2:38 rocky and bullwinkle
2:40 are back
2:41 established 1961 there's a famous photo
2:44 of the misfits in front of this back
2:47 when it was at his original spot one of
2:49 the few photos of this
2:56 it's another band that starts with an m
2:56 yeah
2:57 and holy cow
2:59 holloway turns into horn ave
3:02 right over there used to be tower
3:04 records
3:06 that's so weird seeing it it's gone
3:09 we're just in the parking lot like a
3:11 year ago yeah like a year ago i did a
3:13 weezer video and rivers cuomo used to
3:15 work over there now that's just the tip
3:17 of the iceberg when it comes to music
3:19 history that happened to tower records
3:22 r.i.p tower records gone
3:24 and i'm gonna show the photo here
3:27 there's the misfits
3:28 and there's
3:30 rocky and bullwinkle right there
3:33 classic photo nikki six and tommy lee
3:35 did a signing of the dirt here for the
3:37 book okay and it just recently was used
3:39 in pam and tommy which they did also a
3:41 signing of their album there so this is
3:44 recently used in that
3:46 and there was a fight here you said
3:47 between axel rose and tommy and vince
3:50 neil oh it fits neal
3:51 they wanted to meet karen like
3:55 did the fight really happen
3:56 i couldn't find him if it did i'll have
3:58 to look that up
4:00 so supposedly rumored
4:03 they planned on it they had planned on
4:05 it it does appear as if there's still a
4:07 little bit of the original foundation
4:09 left so this wall here was part of tower
4:11 records and this whole front section but
4:13 now it's gonna be turned into something
4:15 else
4:16 look at that just as i was saying there
4:17 are a lot of tour buses that go through
4:20 here we're doing our own walking tour
4:22 self-guided now here is the world famous
4:25 whiskey a go-go
4:27 you ever been to a concert in there yes
4:28 i've been to many concerts inside it's
4:30 so cool because there's a lot of motley
4:32 crue stuff inside like obviously but
4:34 there's a home sweet home like like
4:36 coaster just a bunch of really cool like
4:38 memorabilia inside it's so neat i've
4:40 been in there one time i saw fat mike
4:41 from nofx's side project the clown band
4:44 he was in i saw that there a few years
4:46 ago the only time i've ever been in
4:47 there looks like they still got concerts
4:49 going on so this place is still open
4:51 let's walk across
4:53 in
4:55 montlick 1989 played a warm-up show for
4:57 doctor feel good here and they went
4:58 under their name before skins which
5:00 tommy we made up before they became a
5:02 figure oh very interesting you can just
5:05 picture them loading their band gear
5:07 through here
5:08 although they probably have roadies well
5:10 maybe then when they started they might
5:11 not have they loaded all their own stuff
5:14 when i was in a band this would have
5:15 been very difficult to pull my base amp
5:18 up this little incline right here
5:20 think of all the feet that have walked
5:22 across that right there
5:25 there's a van halen here this is a star
5:27 walk so they got signed to electric
5:29 records inside here um from the show
5:32 here
5:33 tom i always pronounce his last name
5:35 from electric records when he saw him
5:36 here said motley crue sold out and he
5:38 came in and and they were signed on to
5:40 sushi
5:42 so he saw the concert they went to a
5:44 sushi restaurant and he signed them to
5:46 the record deal
5:51 i know they celebrated them being signed
5:51 out of sushi okay gotcha so he might
5:53 have gone to rainbow but they had sushi
5:54 at some point during the night sushi
5:57 happened
5:58 this says since opening in 1964 the
6:00 whiskey of goga has been one of the
6:01 world's most prominent important rock
6:02 and roll venues
6:04 stages served a launching pad for
6:05 generations of using legends including
6:07 johnny rivers frank zappa love the doors
6:09 buffalo springfield guns and roses and
6:12 yes
6:16 the crew
6:16 okay we're walking up to these
6:18 apartments this is right next to the
6:19 whiskey
6:20 so what happened to these apartments
6:22 um their manager got
6:25 nikki and vince apartment here and they
6:27 were here for a year two years before
6:30 they got evicted and they caught it the
6:32 motley house and the cops were called so
6:34 many times and they kept kicking on the
6:36 door that eventually they just nailed
6:37 the door shut so people would come in
6:39 through the window
6:40 the motley house so which one am i
6:42 looking at is that one one two zero
6:44 might not translate to camera very well
6:45 but this is very steep imagine i cannot
6:48 imagine
6:49 someone who was intoxicated walking up
6:51 there
6:52 and also what we just pointed out was
6:54 used in the movie the dirt as
6:56 the filming locations of their house but
6:58 in real just because they could show it
6:59 in the same camera angle the motley
7:01 house
7:03 and the club but in reality
7:05 it was one one four zero right here on
7:07 clark street
7:09 a little bit more of a hike
7:11 very steep now it's kind of interesting
7:13 if you search the interwebs a lot of
7:14 discrepancies on whether it's this one
7:17 or whether it's one one two four
7:20 or whether it's one one one four which
7:22 is down here which is said to be where g
7:25 and r live for a while and their
7:27 apartment number was
7:28 205. so it was in the back of this
7:31 courtyard over here because there's 204
7:33 so you got the
7:35 even numbers on this side the odd
7:36 numbers on the other side can't get in
7:38 there but yeah it was around that corner
7:39 over there and this photo was taken
7:41 somewhere on this property at one four
7:43 we're just pretty much saying it's one
7:44 one four zero apartment 205. that's our
7:47 guess
7:48 and then they're june of 1981 and then
7:50 they were evicted in march of 1982
7:53 not even a full year very short lived
7:56 and this is oddly similar and could be
7:58 the duplicate of what exists a few miles
8:00 down out down on sunset boulevard
8:03 because sunset boulevard turns into the
8:05 strip
8:06 but this
8:13 reminds me of the crossroads of the
8:13 world globe
8:22 it says something of the world so maybe
8:22 it is crossroads of the world globe
8:25 that's the old hustler building
8:31 oh the world of hustler
8:31 i was way off i really like this
8:33 paparazzi mural over here against the
8:35 side of the wall you can't get over to
8:36 it because it's like fenced off with
8:38 this paparazzi mural everybody with
8:40 their cameras out
8:41 although the paparazzi don't use those
8:43 type of cameras much anymore
8:45 i like this neon here
8:47 you got where it spells roxy but you got
8:48 the neon up top
9:02 i've got a few shows here
9:02 through september
9:04 how the band i was that's playing here
9:06 with ignite i used to be in that band
9:07 got her mouth
9:13 i like this side loading door maybe not
9:13 the loading door but the door here
9:15 check this out it has a little
9:17 submarine
9:18 window
9:22 it's pretty awesome
9:22 and right next door
9:24 the historic rainbow room where lemmy
9:26 from motorhead would all could always be
9:29 seen he was always in here hanging
9:31 around and along the bricks are all
9:32 these different names
9:35 oh here's the foo fighters here here's
9:37 down
9:38 rush
9:45 tesla not the car
9:45 the band
9:47 house of
9:48 pain smashing pumpkins fish bone
9:57 highly doubtful that the bands had these
9:57 put here maybe the venue had it put here
10:01 because
10:02 i mean would david bowie have said i
10:04 want to put my brick here so maybe
10:05 someone else did that i don't know if
10:06 bowie
10:07 would have done it do you see him oh no
10:11 oh there you go
10:13 nice
10:14 sebastian box skid row tom petty
10:19 doctor too oh look dr teeth the muppets
10:22 and inside is a sculpture of lemmy from
10:24 motorhead inside the bar itself
10:41 crossing over the street now and gonna
10:41 walk up to where the viper room is and
10:43 the liquor store
10:45 which it is said that very soon both of
10:47 those buildings could be well most
10:49 likely will be
10:51 demolished and they're going to build
10:52 something else in this place a little
10:54 piece of history you build apartments
10:57 apartments condos are taking over
11:05 sunset strip liquor
11:05 johnny depp used to own this and also
11:07 used to live behind it
11:09 be kind of neat to
11:11 maybe go by and see where his place was
11:13 behind the vine there too if we could
11:14 figure that out
11:16 look at this this old vintage neon sign
11:19 with a cigar
11:21 that's a cigar right there
11:30 they're still doing shows here
11:30 interesting fact i have never been
11:32 inside this building have you yeah
11:34 you've been in yeah i've been multiple
11:35 times
11:37 i've never been inside the viper room
11:39 the movie valley girl was filmed in
11:41 there with nicholas cage where he made
11:43 out with the girl in the bathroom it was
11:46 inside there and the band was playing
11:48 on stage
11:51 but
11:52 right over here
11:54 where river scenic river phoenix passed
11:56 away
11:57 on the sidewalk over here very sad
12:00 halloween a halloween night happened on
12:02 a halloween evening
12:04 so tommy lee got another fight out here
12:06 yeah the fight where he bought the
12:07 paparazzi was outside here yeah we paid
12:10 the 17 000.
12:12 oh the paparazzi fight yeah it was right
12:14 outside okay and it is interesting there
12:16 are next to the liquor store here
12:18 there's nothing on
12:20 the upcoming attractions of what bands
12:22 are going to be here now there is
12:23 something up top here but there's really
12:25 nothing else so possibly
12:28 this could be on the chopping block
12:29 sooner than later there's never really
12:30 enough
12:31 all right so music history right here in
12:33 front of the viper room
12:35 soon to be erased
12:42 all the rock work
12:42 you got the dice
12:48 and here's the loading door right here
12:48 this is where the bands would load all
12:50 their stuff in right here
12:53 have any idea where johnny depp's house
12:55 was
13:00 here was like one of these back this way
13:00 also back in there yeah
13:03 and this is around the back side of the
13:05 property the viper room property well
13:06 this would be the liquor store loading
13:08 through here i guess there's probably a
13:10 load in hallway and then goes up to the
13:12 stage
13:13 viper room all over there
13:16 yeah a little little johnny depp history
13:18 too
13:18 a over river phoenix history
13:24 molly crew history
13:24 valley girl nicholas cage history a lot
13:26 of history this purple velvet door is a
13:29 place called the classic cat established
13:31 1965
13:33 we do a little construction here on the
13:35 awning
13:36 as well i'm noticing over here in the
13:39 is a kat von d guitar which i don't i
13:42 didn't realize that she played guitar
13:44 i mean she might but i just didn't
13:45 realize but it says right there on the
13:47 neck kat von d well she dated nikki six
13:49 for a while oh she dated nikki six yeah
13:52 they dated like yeah quite a few years
13:54 look at you with the motley crew tie-ins
13:56 it's kind of cool to see all the
13:58 you know a magazine shop that's right
14:00 here on the street reminds me of the the
14:02 old newspaper stands up no not
14:04 newspapers just magazines
14:06 right here along the
14:07 sunset strip and plenty of buses i
14:10 always like the look of this building
14:13 with this
14:14 little foliage coming down the side very
14:16 artistic looking
14:19 a neat looking building
14:25 it's a hotel okay now passing back by
14:25 the rocky and bullwinkle
14:27 statue
14:29 and i don't know how this didn't slip
14:30 past my or this look past my radar this
14:32 place called the state
14:34 the state social house
14:37 this used to be house of blues even when
14:39 i lived here
14:40 2015 60 what year did it close
14:50 2015 so i was in orange county then
14:50 interesting house of blues right here if
14:52 you turn off sunset strip onto sunset
14:54 plaza drive a little movie location this
14:57 montgomery management company company
14:59 over here located eight six two three is
15:01 that what it says sunset boulevard and
15:04 eight six two one
15:06 looks kind of like a bank this is
15:08 release this is you could rent this if
15:10 you wanted to this was used in the movie
15:12 scarface
15:13 it was the montana
15:15 management or realty company there's two
15:18 different scenes there was one here
15:19 and there was one here where they walk
15:21 out of here
15:23 him and his friend manny
15:25 there's a montage scene the whole
15:27 montage with the tiger and all that too
15:30 in that same kind of time frame where
15:32 they go across here and then you see
15:33 them going into that building over there
15:34 now on this guitar in front of mel's is
15:37 cindy loper of course
15:39 very famous smells drive-in there are a
15:41 few of these there's one over on
15:43 hollywood and highland
15:44 and i think there's one up in northern
15:46 california but then there's also one
15:49 right here on sunset strip and we parked
15:52 it a lot
15:53 not the 16 one first three hours but a
15:55 dollar an hour lot on the other side of
15:58 the comedy store
16:05 a lot of comedy names have played here
16:05 i've never been to a comedy show at the
16:07 comedy store
16:09 but i do know of its history
16:12 see some of the names of written
16:14 here on the side
16:27 oh there's gilbert right there
16:27 yakov smearing off
16:29 mark summers from double dare
16:46 rowdy roddy piper
17:01 and around the back there's a little bit
17:01 of history from belly dancing in the 40s
17:03 to belly laughter in the 80s come a long
17:06 way baby 100 seat out place upstairs in
17:10 encourage the growth of women in comedy
17:12 until opening the belly room in 78 there
17:14 were about 30 males to every female
17:16 comedian now they're about five to one
17:19 in the store quote stores
17:21 in 83 the belly room was given a new
17:23 decor and the new headliner policy and
17:25 henceforth would be called
17:27 the belly headliner room
17:29 very
17:30 interesting
17:32 so you see where it says mitzi only
17:35 right there
17:44 this is where
17:44 led zeppelin would party on one of these
17:47 balconies on probably the other side
17:48 right the other side yeah the
17:50 continental height that's the right
17:54 the continental hyatt house
17:59 was it jimmy page that was up on the
17:59 balcony with the photo yep
18:01 and the one that they referenced and
18:03 almost famous that's the hotel that they
18:04 go to that penny
18:10 and almost famous nice
18:10 we're noticing too the house up here
18:12 there's a sign that says main room
18:15 workshop and belly room up top referring
18:18 to the comedy store at the bottom of the
18:19 hill this is way up at the top of the
18:20 hill up there and there's pete davidson
18:23 did he just do his last show on snl
18:25 yeah and joe's a crazy motley crew tying
18:27 with him is that he plays tom
18:30 i always pronounce this concept but the
18:32 guy from electrical records that sign
18:34 molly crew he plays it in the dirt movie
18:36 oh really yeah he plays him all kind of
18:38 tie-ins
18:40 pat oswalt colin quinn also snl alum
18:44 david spade
18:46 jim florenty i remember he'd be on stern
18:48 a lot rob schneider
18:55 one day i'll come back to la and i'll go
18:55 to a
18:56 show here one day
18:58 it'll happen
19:05 oh
19:05 charles fleischer voice of roger rabbit
19:07 also in back to future two oh no way
19:12 that is so cool
19:14 jim varney also known as ernest p
19:16 warrell all right just a few blocks over
19:18 from where we were the original
19:20 barney's beanery games and pool parking
19:23 is around back
19:25 have a variety of different food items
19:27 as well now i have never been here you
19:29 recommended this
19:31 what is it going to be inside barney's
19:33 beanery that i have to look forward to
19:35 seeing a little history oh my gosh well
19:37 this was the last place that janice was
19:39 before she passed away um so she
19:41 actually has her name carved um that
19:43 used to be on the bar says janice was
19:46 here and now it's on the ceiling um and
19:48 also jim morrison stood on the bar and
19:50 he uh relieved himself yeah he urinated
19:53 the bar
19:54 all over the so we probably don't want
19:56 to eat on the bar unless you have a
19:57 plate yes
19:58 have a plate for you at the bar and what
20:00 kind of food do they have um it's kind
20:02 of like american kind of food it's a
20:04 diner kind
20:07 so i always thought because it was
20:08 called the beanery that it was a coffee
20:10 shop but really it's a restaurant yeah
20:11 just a restaurant there's another one in
20:13 burbank also but it doesn't have as much
20:15 history as this this is the original one
20:17 original one last place where janice was
20:19 before she went back to her hotel
20:21 wow and then she passed away yeah
20:23 there's a story of the bartender that
20:24 served her her last it was four shots of
20:27 southern comfort and the bartender in
20:30 the headlines the next day she thought
20:31 that she
20:32 killed her because it said that she died
20:34 of alcohol poisoning but it wasn't it
20:36 was other substances wow
20:39 and also when we were inside eating did
20:41 not realize that maryland used to kind
20:44 of hang out in there too during some
20:46 like it hot
20:47 it was it was in the in the menu there
20:49 was like a bunch of informative
20:52 you know information about the place and
20:54 not only something like it hot she'd be
20:55 in here
20:56 i guess you know grabbing a meal as well
20:59 but also they filled a lot of colombo
21:01 with peter falk inside there for some of
21:03 the early episodes
21:05 of columbo we both ended up getting
21:07 hamburgers i ended up getting a side
21:08 salad and a double meat burger what'd
21:11 you end up getting i got the barbecue
21:13 bacon burger and a side of fries yours
21:16 is way healthier than mine well not
21:18 really because yours only had one patty
21:20 i had the two patty deal
21:22 with everything on it so it kind of kind
21:24 of worked out the same way oh mine was a
21:26 juicy lucy that's what it was juicy lucy
21:29 it was the cheese so it has the cheese
21:31 on inside of it yeah so it's like the
21:33 burger but then they put the cheese
21:34 inside so that's what makes up a juicy
21:35 loser and while i was over there talking
21:37 about barney's beanery
21:39 this looks so familiar
21:41 mel gibson was up there danny glover was
21:43 down here
21:45 you know the movie he had my guy well
21:47 lethal weapon
21:48 right up there
21:50 wow
21:51 it's the same sign who knew well i guess
21:54 i could have looked it up but i just
21:55 glanced over and said
21:56 that's a filming location right there
21:58 and it is this building looked a little
22:00 bit different but i remember danny
22:01 glover pushed mel gibson inside here was
22:03 kind of yelling at him
22:04 danny glover was so great in that movie
22:07 emerson international oriental rugs and
22:09 ceramic tile i really hope i'm correct
22:11 and i'm just not way off on this but i
22:13 think that's the roof line up there
22:15 right with the barney's beanery sign in
22:17 view you have to wonder on the set of
22:20 that film if they walked over here this
22:22 is the back side of barney's beanery
22:24 right here and they grabbed a bite to
22:25 eat
22:26 after that dramatic moment right there
22:28 from the roof jumping off that roof
22:31 also i haven't seen a satellite dish in
22:33 a long time walking down this sidewalk
22:35 there is a sam ash
22:37 music and percussion place but there's
22:40 also a guitar center next door
22:43 that has quite a bit of history you see
22:45 the sign right there protruding out and
22:48 lots of paintings
22:50 up on the side you got jimi hendrix
22:54 up there the first one
22:55 i'm noticing
22:57 and this is the
22:58 rock wall rock walk of fame
23:01 up here
23:06 there's a little piece of history you
23:06 want to talk about here too as well
23:07 right yeah motley crue um put their
23:10 handprints and everything in 1997 here
23:13 yeah there's a big guitar right there
23:16 painted on the side
23:18 just got headphones on up top here it is
23:21 to those who
23:22 music continues to echo through the
23:23 decades to those who foresight in
23:25 pioneering efforts have made a lasting
23:27 creative
23:29 contribution to the rock
23:31 walk
23:32 of fame look at all these see them i see
23:36 stevie wonder right here is he smokey

25:06 which was the club that they did the
25:08 music video for girls girls girls out
25:16 and mentioned in the song

25:19 and the body shop and the body shop is
25:21 further down sunset but they also have
25:23 the girls girls girls sign that they
25:26 um held the album release party there
25:29 at the
25:30 body shop
25:38 right next to it
25:38 butterfly pavilion banner
25:40 right next door i like this whole motel
25:42 sign
25:43 the hollywood

26:27 that we were just at
26:31 okay this is what i was thinking of
26:31 earlier that
26:33 is the crosshairs of the world now
26:34 passing the cinerana cinerama dome i had
26:38 heard a rumor that this had closed and
26:40 they were boarding it up
26:41 and it is confirmed take a look at this
26:43 the cinderella cinerama i'm having
26:45 trouble saying that cinerama dome has
26:48 been completely boarded up i'm not
26:50 really sure what they're going to do
26:51 with this tear it down probably
26:52 apartments
26:59 so for two years it's been closed wow
