welcome everyone Adam the woo here as

2024 2024 January 11th
0:09
Thursday starting to say the correct
0:11
year now it's hard to get out of the
0:13
habit of say in 2023 I'm be doing a
0:15
Highway 192 video this evening late in
0:17
the afternoon early evening going to be
0:19
meeting up with a friend going to grab
0:20
some coffee we're going to cruise down
0:22
192 hit a couple of spots but I want to
0:25
really talk about and kind of get into
0:27
the nitty-gritty and the nooks and
0:30
crannies if you will of a place called
0:32
The Big Bamboo it was a bar that
0:35
predated Trader Sam's gr gr at the
0:39
Polynesian came way before that in fact
0:41
it opened up in the late 70s and went on
0:43
till about 2004 when some hurricanes
0:46
rolled through and destroyed it and then
0:48
a couple years later it burned down then
0:50
a few years after that it was torn down
0:52
and the reason I really want to cover it
0:54
is because it's a staple of not only
0:55
Walt Disney World History cast member
0:58
history imagineer history local history
1:01
but also a little baseball history lots
1:03
of
1:04
history but because they are going to be
1:06
renovating it and building a new condo
1:09
shopping center Housing Development
1:12
something in its place so I figured now
1:14
is the time to really show it before
1:17
just even the land is completely changed
1:19
but I'm going to show some other stuff
1:20
as well I'm inviting you to join
1:22
me little evening episode shall you all
1:27
right I made it over to the world's
1:28
largest orange the big Big Orange if you
1:30
will and I mentioned this before this
1:33
was you it's been here been around for
1:35
decades a kind of a staple of roadside
1:37
tractions here in CMI was also a filming
1:40
location for the movie The Florida
1:42
project and I want to introduce chrisper
1:44
gosh here hey everybody who had a big
1:45
hand in the Florida project there yeah
1:47
I'm glad it's uh still there why don't
1:49
you tell everybody what you did on the
1:51
movie or for the movie uh produced the
1:53
Florida project and if you if you've
1:55
watched it thank you I've watched it
1:57
many times have it on Blu-ray yeah and
1:59
those guys out right there uh are you
2:00
having on blot Ray Oh I thought I was
2:02
you're saying those guys out there and
2:03
I'm looking over there you're talking to
2:05
those in the camera in the
2:07
YouTube so I remember when I heard that
2:10
this burned down remember I got a hold
2:12
of you and you were like what the heck
2:14
everything from the Florida Project's
2:15
going away Scar the hell at but it's
2:18
it's still
2:19
here and so is used to be called The
2:22
Magic Castle so we're going to swing by
2:24
the Magic Castle that has reopened as
2:26
another another motel you've literally
2:28
become my source of all the going on of
2:31
Florida project locations cuz yeah you
2:34
you just mentioned that the that it
2:35
reopened yeah so I'm very excited well
2:37
part of the reason I was drawn to the
2:38
movie is because it represents what this
2:41
area 192 really is and I think a lot of
2:43
people don't understand it's a very
2:45
realistic film in a way it's almost I
2:47
say a document documentary but it's very
2:50
realistic to how this area of 192 is
2:54
yeah thanks for noticing yeah and if
2:56
people don't if people don't come down
2:57
here they don't realize that that's
2:59
that's not all fic
3:00
you know a lot of that that's in there
3:01
oh yeah that's why you know the Magic
3:03
Castle it was purple people always ask
3:05
you know did you paint that for the film
3:06
no that's how it really was well it's
3:08
repainted now yeah I know which is kind
3:10
of all right I'm going to withhold
3:11
judgment yeah let's wait let's wait till
3:12
we get over there but you can go in now
3:14
before they had it under construction
3:16
but and this 10 months ago caught fire
3:19
and they haven't reopened it but and
3:20
I've showed this many times but I
3:21
figured you'd want to see it oh totally
3:23
so you can go you can we can walk up to
3:26
fire you just can't go in oh you can't
3:27
go in okay hopefully soon during the day
3:29
they have this completely open so they
3:31
have like a a worker out here selling
3:34
stuff so they have all their products or
3:35
at least a good chunk of their products
3:36
outside it's just they have a started
3:38
putting anything back inside but we went
3:41
in here together when we did very
3:43
expansive Florida project filming
3:45
location a few years ago we went to all
3:47
the spots and you told me your stories
3:49
and you guys have to check that out for
3:51
no other reason to see Adam uh save me
3:54
from being stuck in a tree that's truee
3:57
we went to the tree terrible terribly we
3:59
go all the spots t i but just we'll go
4:00
to a couple of them uh but no I'm so
4:03
happy orange world if you guys are ever
4:04
in the area one two it's worth a special
4:07
trip from the Disney uh property to try
4:09
their orange juice it's good and and I
4:11
believe they've been here before the
4:13
resort opened
4:14
in1 and uh yeah it's just part of uh
4:17
part of Chris is a big Walt Disney World
4:19
guy too childhood we years old for
4:21
orange juice and this is where they
4:23
would have the orange birg for sale yes
4:27
uh back then when he was that was before
4:29
that was before it was it was it was for
4:31
Florida not for Disney and then Disney
4:33
adopted it this is literally you could
4:34
say where I met the orange bird into my
4:38
Consciousness that is so cool they don't
4:40
sell the orange bird here anymore they
4:42
probably have some sort of uh knockoff
4:44
yeah when I first heard about the fire
4:46
this what I this is what I was worried
4:48
was burned down because this is
4:50
prominently shown in the
4:51
movie and it's the first thing I ever
4:54
posted on my my Instagram that I have my
4:55
Adam the WW Instagram I have a picture
4:57
in front of me that's whereing my my
4:59
Florida shark shirt oh awesome
5:03
yeah I think I have like 10 photos on my
5:06
Instagram now I went to 10 photos now
5:07
after like after a couple years few
5:09
years okay good congrats I'm getting
5:10
there one day I'm going to be a real I'm
5:11
going to be a real social media person
5:14
but see you can see the damage around
5:15
the back
5:20
Bowers okay but you know what it it you
5:20
know it could have been worse It's
5:22
always important to have a positive
5:24
outlook honestly it could have been a
5:26
lot worse you know I never asked you
5:28
were you on site during all the filming
5:31
of the movie yeah every day every day
5:32
you were there oh yeah oh yeah and uh
5:35
there was always you know we're always
5:37
still small crew that was the biggest
5:38
one up to that dat but we were we were
5:41
all wearing multiple hats and so they
5:43
might have been shooting one scene yeah
5:46
and I was still trying to work on great
5:48
locations that we cuz we we had so many
5:51
spots like you know the mermaid down
5:53
there there's a huge svir store with
5:55
100% I know I know I know and we had to
5:57
narrow them down cuz they also have just
5:59
been you know too many did you have the
6:00
mer mermaid's not in there right no she
6:02
was on our list she almost made you had
6:04
the wizard in there though yes and it's
6:05
the wizard there's two wizards you kind
6:07
of made a love letter to
6:09
192 it's kind of you you made the the La
6:12
La Land to La you made the Love Letter
6:14
to CMI 192 oh wow yeah thank you I as
6:17
far as when you watch it it's like
6:18
you're documenting all the places you
6:20
know for future Generations all these
6:22
things I didn't mean to compare your
6:23
movie to La La Land but you I love la I
6:26
love it too have their work yeah it's
6:27
going to be a while wow right over there
6:29
is where we got the orange juice last
6:31
time right in there yep so every time I
6:33
come by here they say it's going to be
6:35
opening soon but I don't know I'm just
6:37
glad it's still standing that's the most
6:39
important thing and they keep no cash in
6:41
the register at any time
6:44
just mean they got the door new well are
6:46
those new doors those might be doors
6:48
from over there this used to be like
6:50
this used to be a orange themed Motel
6:53
back when you guys were filming looks
6:54
like it's more stuff and the waffle
6:57
house over here isn't open well funny
6:59
thing is is when we came here when I was
7:02
4 years old for that was the first time
7:04
we drove down from New Jersey uh me and
7:07
my mom and dad and this is where we
7:09
stayed you stayed here that was the
7:11
first time I've ever visited Disney
7:12
World and I stayed here I love that you
7:15
know things were different back then and
7:17
uh that created your your love of the
7:19
area yeah and then the next time was
7:21
when I was 8 years old and we stayed at
7:23
the Contemporary and that was a huge up
7:26
you don't say that's a life you no
7:30
new Flash but I should but slight
7:32
disclaimer it was in one of the wing it
7:34
was not the one that they destroyed
7:35
you're trying to Dow you're trying to
7:37
downsize it now come on it's still I
7:40
hope they don't take away that Wing
7:41
there's been talk the okay is there an
7:44
official name for those wings I'm
7:46
getting way off base with the subject
7:47
matter I was going to talk about the Big
7:49
Bamboo which you've never been to that
7:50
spot but you've heard of it you've heard
7:52
of it oh there's a lot of lore we're
7:55
going to go there and talk about it okay
7:57
I'm already my video is already done
7:58
I've already got 20 minutes of footage
7:59
already but oh jeez this is amazing I'm
8:02
so excited to see this the longest video
8:04
ever because said's get going where else
8:06
we we're going to go by the hotel too
8:07
we're going to go buy the the former
8:09
Magic Castle I could edit this down but
8:11
I probably won't I'll probably just
8:12
leave it all
8:13
in kind of placeing my bets on this too
8:16
if this will reopen cuz it's been closed
8:18
for maintenance for a
8:19
while fun fact if you watch the
8:22
movie this was not the the diner that
8:26
the kids go in it's like that's actually
8:28
up on col Drive even yeah they wouldn't
8:30
let us they wouldn't let you film in
8:32
here right so that's why we did a little
8:34
movie
8:35
Magic yeah I always thought it was right
8:37
next door but supposed to be way up on
8:39
Colonial Drive in Pine Hills imp yeah
8:43
the uh and
8:45
now because they wouldn't let you film
8:47
in here they're not open all right
8:49
what's your first impression seeing it
8:51
not painted purple anymore oh yeah this
8:53
is representative of society today where
8:55
they stripped the saturated color and
8:58
and it's a sort of a drab environment
9:01
you can still see where it looked like a
9:03
castle though right yeah you can there
9:04
it is right
9:05
there no more Magic Castle that's the
9:08
subtext that was taken over by dark
9:11
Forces but they also redid All the
9:14
inside the lob so the lobby doesn't look
9:16
the same the rooms don't look the same
9:18
but look at that logo I like the the
9:22
flare it's it's it's almost got to a
9:24
little 80s or '90s uh little retro Vibe
9:27
does have a '90s style to it yeah they
9:30
did leave this though you could see this
9:32
in the film this window right here oh
9:34
interesting she throws like the tampon
9:36
there I guess the the window I wonder
9:38
what they did with I hope somebody kept
9:40
the poster they had the signed poster in
9:41
you want to go in and ask sure goodness
9:44
look at this oh my goodness can you
9:47
believe this I can't believe I was not
9:48
expecting this holy Macaro you were
9:52
coming in here to see if they had the
9:53
poster you gave them when they came back
9:55
a while back and W W one up it but they
9:59
even explain the
10:03
title I'm pretty shocked that that's in
10:05
here like that I am so happy look
10:08
they've got the helicopter there's
10:11
Mooney I was not expecting that I'm glad
10:13
we walked in here they got twisty tree
10:16
kind of yeah this is incredible and they
10:19
use the font I don't know if Sean knows
10:22
about
10:28
this I got to ask him so the poster that
10:28
you had the have a little small poster
10:30
in a frame that's gone but this is this
10:32
definitely takes it up a notch oh I'm so
10:34
happy we came in here what a discovery
10:37
wow wow I'm very happy about this all
10:41
right so here's the pool still looks to
10:44
say so they definitely embrace it y
10:47
Gloria's chair were these the same
10:49
chairs I mean I don't know if they my
10:51
memory but this is where she was that's
10:53
where she would have been she had her
10:54
big you know what's out there you go and
10:58
they do embrace the movie so I'm kind of
10:59
curious if you could ask for the room
11:01
what was the room number 323 right up
11:04
there um and then uh and right below it
11:07
um you know I wonder how were you here
11:11
when defo did the whole scene when he's
11:13
like oh yeah go back to get your VCRs
11:16
the whole dud that's like my favorite
11:17
scene yeah like right here oh my gosh
11:20
that you were here watching that happen
11:21
oh yeah that's that's incredible like
11:23
mind has blowned so he was just doing
11:25
the scene and then you just put voices
11:26
over so because there was no one here uh
11:28
we didn't have like in when he we shot
11:31
him doing that there was no one down so
11:32
her room was up top yeah and then that
11:34
show that that scene there I'm talking
11:36
about with Theo was like this walking
11:37
like this yeah go back to your
11:40
room that's amazing do one of these yeah
11:43
you see the palm tree and everything he
11:45
was so good and what a what a
11:50
jet and yeah of course that's where the
11:50
paint spill happens right there yeah
11:52
with the ladder paint up there and that
11:54
was where the Coke machine with the guy
11:57
let's see how good of a painting job is
11:59
any paints lasted on the ground 6 years
12:02
5 Years cuz that was the worst thing I I
12:06
the paint that spilled there's some
12:07
paint here been here it would have F
12:08
felt so horrible for the for those dudes
12:11
that had to clean up that paint that was
12:12
real paint I mean they haven't redone
12:14
the parking lot
12:15
yeah so she was on the third floor yeah
12:18
and then her friend and later not her
12:20
friend was right right below her right
12:22
no oh so are the room members the same
12:26
well that's 223 what room was it so it's
12:28
they kept numbers the same so it's 323
12:30
right there yep yep wow so good so you
12:32
can still ask for room 323 I'm going to
12:34
stay here one day not tonight but if you
12:36
want to have the hay Mooney experience
12:39
here's the washer dryer
12:41
hookups they throwing the mattress off
12:43
the second
12:44
level and the dumpsters there no this is
12:48
totally like the closest you could feel
12:50
to Marty going to alternate 1985 Back to
12:53
the Future Part Two cuz it's like so
12:55
surreal how we're in the same place but
12:57
it's different the except the hotel's
12:59
nicer now yeah it it is it's I did like
13:02
I like the color purple but
13:06
yeah and also the name I mean how do you
13:08
be magic
13:13
pass oh this is the real electrical room
13:13
too yes yes in here in the mechanic room
13:16
yeah it still looks the same I mean
13:17
obviously it doesn't have the purple Hue
13:20
but really if you wanted to come match
13:21
up film if you were like a filming
13:22
location geek
13:24
yeah and they're like I said they
13:26
embrace it I was shocked to see that
13:28
mural in there unbelievable good job on
13:31
them um this is the right over here at
13:34
this side of the third floor is where
13:36
Moy gives her
13:42
tour oh well she's walking down here
13:42
yeah telling about
13:53
every did you pick this hotel or motel
13:53
because of the helicopter place there no
13:56
that was a byproduct of just being they
13:58
just working that in um because we had
14:01
to um I mean that adds to it you think
14:04
that' be it was called The Magic Castle
14:06
it's
14:07
purple uh and I had stayed here in um
14:11
1996 I stayed here so it was also part
14:14
of my past all right we've now commuted
14:17
over just a few blocks over to the
14:18
corner 535 and 192 192 is
14:22
there so this was the 99 cent store in
14:25
the film oh yeah or a dollar store yeah
14:27
that's where they go on there little
14:29
shopping cart Frolic and get the wings
14:31
that are depicted in what we just saw
14:34
mural at the former magic C it's called
14:37
the developer in now kind to hard get
14:39
hard to say that very hard but a little
14:42
tie in to go into what I was mentioning
14:43
at the beginning there's Mickey and
14:45
Minnie right there it's actually going
14:47
to be a Fortuna Bakery there's one of
14:49
these in celebration so down here
14:53
1977 I did a lot of research online a
14:55
little earlier today but in 1997 not
14:59
1977 he created a bar from what this is
15:02
called Vine Street now referred to as
15:04
ear Bronson or Highway 192 it's got a
15:07
bunch of different names but evidently
15:09
it was the first bar ever built on or
15:12
ever that was a business on Vine Street
15:16
through this stretch of road in 77 it
15:19
was called the Big
15:20
Bamboo and they never PVE the parking
15:23
lot they kind of you kind of equate it
15:25
to like a flea market version of a B of
15:28
A Tiki Bar it was really rugged kind of
15:31
run down they used toilet paper as
15:36
coasters but it was very iconic and it
15:39
sat right in here I wanted to show this
15:41
before it all goes vertical for the new
15:48
condos but you'd pull in off the road I
15:48
du up some photos too you'd pull in off
15:50
the road they had a
15:52
big I think it was a Jeep or a van or
15:55
something in an elevated Tower right
15:58
there that you could see and then right
16:00
about where that truck is right next to
16:03
that tree I think that tree was grown up
16:05
a lot but it used it used to be right
16:06
there going that way and it was an old
16:10
two-bedroom house that the owner bought
16:12
and turned it into a tiki bar and it
16:15
became very popular with imagineers cast
16:19
members especially in the late 80s with
16:22
Pleasure Island and MGM opening in '
16:27
89
16:29
another Fallen piece of Wayside from 192
16:32
would first open if this building was
16:33
not here and 535 which is now was not
16:37
there there was nothing here but Woods
16:38
it was all Farmland as far as the eye
16:40
could see oh man
16:42
Peabody oh all of it okay so that's over
16:44
by that grouping of trees I showed so
16:47
just like a little place has the
16:48
cocktail thing outside this was the
16:50
interior I got these off the website
16:52
that still exists I think it's like a
16:53
geoc cities or something it's like one
16:55
of those kind of old sites that
16:57
evidently someone's still paying the
16:58
hosting on so all these photos of what
17:01
the inside look like but the cast
17:02
members they would put
17:04
their their name tags on the wall and
17:07
above the bar and then they put their
17:08
hat people would leave souvenirs
17:10
evidently there was some seats from like
17:11
one of the test track vehicles at one
17:13
point in there but you can look all the
17:15
look at all the name tags so it was
17:18
basically a cast member Haven where
17:20
everyone would just like come in here
17:22
hang out at the bar there's a there's a
17:24
few of them there you feel like a place
17:26
like that should exist like I wonder is
17:28
there a comparable cast member Haven
17:30
these days I think the next one after
17:32
this would what was the place at
17:33
Pleasure Island the adventurers Club the
17:35
adventurers club that kind of think that
17:36
came after this right right and then now
17:39
it's Trader Sams which is more like
17:41
touristy but that's really like the only
17:43
thing I can really compare I don't
17:45
know so this is the front here so
17:49
there's that tower that I think that was
17:50
actually after it was abandoned it's
17:51
interesting there used to be a super
17:52
eight where that kind of dollar store
17:55
now
17:56
the the bakery is going to be
17:59
here they are building the tower but
18:01
take a look over
18:02
here so I don't know what year that
18:04
would have been maybe early 90s but
18:07
there's the building we're standing in
18:08
the park about right next to
18:10
it there's the Big Bamboo
18:18
Tower looks like that's the team members
18:18
there or the or the people working there
18:20
and the
18:21
owner are the original owner he passed
18:23
away I think in
18:30
99 so that's looking back at 192 there's
18:30
the Super Eight
18:35
sign see there's the building right
18:35
there we're standing next to incredible
18:37
that's this build I had no idea this
18:39
building has been around for that
18:49
long another fun interesting tie in is I
18:49
used to work at the Houston as spring
18:51
training in cm down at AAL Heritage Park
18:54
and during that time in the early '90s a
18:56
lot of the players and coaches
18:58
would come up and visit and Yogi Bara
19:01
was a catching coach for the Astros for
19:03
a couple years he was frequented inside
19:05
here yogie Bara Yankees Legend was
19:08
inside
19:09
there and also the one of the mountain
19:12
climbers remember the mountain climbers
19:13
at Disneyland at the the matter horn
19:15
there was one famous mountain climber
19:18
that moved to Florida and he would hang
19:19
out in here all the time it like one of
19:21
his favorite his favorite little
19:23
bars yeah what what
19:27
forgotten history that you're preserving
19:29
here this is great bringing this to a
19:31
new audience's attention I've kind of
19:34
subtly mentioned it before I got a few
19:35
friends that I like you should do a
19:36
whole designated video on it and there's
19:38
really nothing to show but I kind of
19:40
feel like it needs to at least it kind
19:42
of needs to be put out there before
19:44
completely
19:46
gone and a lot of times this would flood
19:49
there's some photos of this whole area
19:51
flooding they never paved it so
19:53
sometimes they would be like oh even on
19:55
the even on the
19:56
site you would you could go go on there
19:58
say if you see it flooded don't park
20:00
near the water like Park elsewhere and
20:01
walk in but it would like I think it was
20:04
they called it the boo I think they
20:06
called it that was what the locals
20:08
referred to it as instead of the Big
20:09
Bamboo they just called it the boo even
20:11
have a frequently asked questions thing
20:12
on their site they did not take credit
20:14
cards they were cash only they didn't
20:16
serve food sometimes they had bags of
20:18
chips but just bag chips that was it no
20:22
food just Beverages and lots of sure the
20:25
imagine being a fly in the wall some of
20:26
those cast miver stories from oh God
20:29
that era of
20:30
Disney some of the crap talking that was
20:32
going on hey look at this this is old
20:34
map quest screen
20:36
grab and then here was the lake that's
20:39
that's how it would flood oh my
20:42
goodness yeah so there's the side of
20:44
that building that we're standing in the
20:45
parking lot of over there has been
20:46
revamped but that's that building Still
20:48
Standing looks like that might have been
20:50
before they built the Tower cuz that
20:52
looks like maybe early 80 I think the
20:54
tower was built like late 80s early '90s
20:58
and that's what I remember my family
20:59
moved here at ' 91 we would drive down
21:01
192 I got my first car in ' 91 I 17
21:05
driving past this and I got to go in
21:08
when it was a band I went in it one time
21:10
but I didn't like hang out in there
21:12
there's the building right there next to
21:13
it what what happened to that jeep
21:17
thing that's kind of a good photo it
21:19
almost looks like it's on fire but it's
21:20
not it's just like the exposure of it
21:22
it's cool you got to go in though yeah I
21:24
got to go in xanadoo House of the future
21:26
also that's that's right across the road
21:27
from here that's torn down here's an old
21:30
Orlando Orlando paper talking about how
21:34
the fire Char fire charg closed bar and
21:37
hangout some homeless people moved in
21:38
and caught it on
21:41
fire here's another photo what the
21:43
inside look like
21:50
there yeah maybe maybe roie did go in
21:50
there and and see that and think I could
21:52
probably take that so it there's a
21:54
couple other places there's another bar
21:56
I think it may be in South Florida
21:58
that has is also called The Big Bamboo
22:01
and
22:02
also there's a baseball team that has
22:04
this I think I can't remember what team
22:05
it is they have this in their Outfield
22:08
or uh in their Stadium they've recreated
22:11
the Big Bamboo based on the one in cem
22:13
there's a photo of Frank Noel who lived
22:15
in LA on the weekends would climb the
22:17
matter horn three or four times a day
22:18
just on the weekends back in the day but
22:21
from
22:21
07 I said that 97 to 04 that's what it
22:25
was 97 to 04 he lived in the Orlando
22:27
area and this was his like favorite
22:29
little hangout so he used to hang out on
22:30
the matter horn and then he hung out
22:31
here at the Big Bamboo all right this is
22:33
an article off of the Big Bamboo Bayside
22:36
I think that's Florida could be other
22:37
state but Big Bamboo Bayside is a
22:39
tribute in some ways to the Big Bamboo
22:41
Lounge that used to exist in CMI the
22:44
owner that was established by Bruce Mir
22:46
and then he sold it off in his will he
22:48
said he wanted to keep it going so he
22:49
passed away in
22:51
99 but he got the theming from being in
22:55
Hawaii from a place near Pearl Harbor
22:58
and that's how he got the idea for the
23:00
place here but you can see here it it
23:03
was a local hangout for the Houston
23:04
Astros during the Spring training days
23:07
before Disney then the Disney employee
23:08
hang out once the college dorms were
23:09
open down the road to Snow White Village
23:12
which is gone that's over on Snow White
23:14
Drive a couple blocks from here the
23:16
signature rink was called the Big Bamboo
23:17
tables were old wooden cable spools
23:19
napkins were toilet paper rolls and
23:21
glasses were mason
23:23
jars so the Big Bamboo Bayside is the
23:25
first place that kind of honored that
23:27
honor it kept
23:29
name all right so in early February of
23:33
99 Bruce Mir the Creator passed away I
23:37
did look up to see where his final
23:38
resting place was thinking maybe it be
23:39
in oila County Orange County or the
23:41
Orlando area and it's not body was taken
23:44
back up north so going to I was going to
23:46
actually go by his grave but he passed
23:48
away in '99 this is an article about 5
23:51
months before he passed away and it had
23:54
said he had some health issues in here
23:55
but this is talking about how he wants
23:57
to keep the place going and be
23:58
successful they had music like music
24:00
acts in there so there is him before his
24:04
passing there documentary Orlando CA
24:06
since opening in 77 m is advertised only
24:08
one time that was in a newspaper in 78
24:11
he'd rather rely on Word of Mouth I love
24:14
this cuz MGM just opened the MGM gang is
24:16
starting to come down and the Pleasure
24:19
Island Gang is coming down
24:20
too is't that wild that
24:23
is
24:25
crazy I I like to to see the differ sort
24:28
of U stages like what was it like from
24:31
77 to you know 89 when they built the
24:35
Tower and you know what was how long did
24:37
it take to become a cast member
24:40
hangout that's true because yeah it
24:42
might not have been you know it might
24:43
have been the Pleasure Island crowd and
24:46
the and that crowd getting off work late
24:49
maybe I don't
24:50
know yeah I don't know I don't know if
24:52
because you don't really hear about it
24:53
in the early '70s well no because 77
24:55
yeah Magik Keen was already open 71
25:04
but yeah people don't realize it because
25:04
of today back then like I remember in
25:06
the 70s and early ' 80s there was like
25:09
nothing like today there there were huge
25:11
pockets of 192 that were just
25:13
nothingness it was kind of neat digging
25:15
through these old newspaper articles so
25:17
on the wall there were different things
25:19
from the park so at remember all the
25:20
streetmosphere atmos uh actors way back
25:23
in the day there was way more and they
25:25
just kind of slowly went away over time
25:26
at MGM now
25:28
Studios but all back behind the bar
25:31
there was a photo of the street actor
25:32
Sid quenga from MGM which is what that
25:35
first house is based in when you're
25:37
first walking in have poers there
25:39
remember that based on Sid groman and uh
25:42
the quena which is the main road through
25:44
one of the main roads in LA in Hollywood
25:46
but Sid the the actor Street mosphere
25:49
actor signed it and it was behind the
25:51
Big Bamboo and then he said that M
25:53
didn't even remember how it got there so
25:55
I guess they'd bring stuff in and they
25:57
would just end up in
25:59
there wonder it happened to all that
26:01
stuff all right this is what I was
26:03
looking for so the baseball team was the
26:05
Astros so the spring training team would
26:06
come in there one of the guys from the
26:09
Astros liked it so much that he
26:11
recreated it at minute made Park little
26:14
bar Sparks Texas copy even as a future
26:17
is uncertain even as the future of this
26:19
one in CMI was uncertain a vulnerable
26:21
CMI Watering Hole serves as a model for
26:23
Venture for a venture at Astro's minute
26:25
made part I'm curious to see if that is
26:28
still there it shares the same name and
26:31
the same kind of theming so it lives on
26:34
in Houston cuz Houston Astros don't
26:35
Spring train here anymore it's raining
26:36
we should get under the cover all right
26:38
this is in the Oola paper in middle of
26:40
2007 this is talking about how the Big
26:43
Bamboo will meet its Bitter
26:45
End and of goes on to talk about all
26:48
that so it was guess it would have been
26:49
in '
26:50
07 and this is interesting I would love
26:52
to find some old photos or talk to
26:54
people who were there knowing his demise
26:56
was imminent 50 longtime fans of the boo
27:00
gathered on May 5th of 07 for last
27:03
Harrah in the grass around the bar 50
27:06
people were right over
27:08
here giving it a little send off now
27:11
they've actually paved it down in there
27:12
for the new
27:18
project it's kind of like a it's
27:18
definitely like a cult thing for a lot
27:20
of people that have been around for a
27:23
long time it's like a a place of Legends
27:24
they always talk about it the Big Bamboo
27:27
but there's not a lot of info out there
27:29
other than just a few things online I'm
27:31
showing unless you were there it's like
27:33
you just had to be there I passed it
27:35
many times though driving down only went
27:37
in once and then once when it was
27:38
abandoned xanadoo house of the future
27:41
was right over there this is another
27:43
interesting little article from the
27:44
Orlando Sentinel
27:46
1982 Robert got1 175 bar $75 on
27:50
Christmas day two armed robbers were
27:53
reported in the county during the
27:54
Christmas weekend Bruce Mir was alive at
27:56
that point owner of the big band on US
27:58
192 told the deputies that two men
28:00
wearing masks over their faces stockings
28:02
on their arms robbed the bar of
28:05
$175 on Christmas Day at 1:40 a.m. it's
28:09
a Merry Christmas like something out of
28:10
a
28:15
movie they took the money fled with the
28:16
wallets car drove in the parking lot
28:17
frightened off the
28:19
robbers and they were seen running and
28:21
they were chased by a K9
28:23
unit that's good guess that wasn't nice
28:26
of them to do no it's like it's
28:28
Christmas yeah all right I went on to
28:29
read there used to be a imagineer named
28:32
Ralph Kent who personally worked with
28:34
Walt Disney at Disneyland also at the
28:37
World's
28:38
Fair
28:40
64 and moved to Florida in 71 for the
28:43
opening of Walt Disney World of Magic
28:44
Kingdom and he was the he was the guy
28:46
who designed the first Mickey Mouse
28:50
watches and the bumper stickers for Walt
28:52
Disney World and all the paraphernalia
28:54
the promotional material and this was
28:56
one of his Hangouts as well in the late
28:59
'70s when it first opened right over
29:00
there so you just never know who you're
29:01
going to bump into at the
29:04
boo if I would have been in there it
29:06
have been the woo at the boo
29:09
yeah yeah Ralph Kent and Yogi
29:14
Bara you know what's interesting I never
29:16
realized this was called po Siana place
29:18
here on 192 the new the new spot we're
29:22
going to walk down sidewalk
29:25
here what year do you think this side
29:27
sidewalk was placed here I think that
29:28
was that was post 71 maybe this the new
29:32
sidewalk that you can drive a cart on I
29:34
can drive my golf cart on anything
29:35
that's more than 5 ft that's 7 ft so
29:37
they did this that way people could ride
29:39
their bikes and have their golf carts
29:40
and whatnot going down it but this might
29:42
have been maybe probably
29:45
not when the area was developed what you
29:48
say early '70s
29:55
before 77 is when he built the now look
29:55
at old satellite views none of this was
29:57
was here so probably this was after 77
30:00
because there was nothing here but on
30:01
the satellite view there's nothing but
30:03
grass so probably
30:05
not oh take a look at this I never
30:08
realized this so they have the
30:11
markers so this is probably marker 11
30:15
not that I could see one cuz they have
30:17
those markers down 192 I never realized
30:19
they were inscribed on the concrete also
30:21
did you nope never have you ever heard
30:24
anyone talk about a marker location ever
30:27
not this is a fire I wonder if they go
30:30
all the way down well you know why these
30:33
were originally created they were
30:35
created that way when a tourist would go
30:37
into a store they would say oh where's
30:40
medieval times and they could say oh
30:42
it's by it's by marker whatever W no one
30:44
ever does that now yeah so you could
30:46
probably go anywhere any of these stores
30:48
I could go over to this smoke link place
30:51
and go what marker is Oldtown at they're
30:54
not going to know it just didn't work I
30:58
don't it's got to be they go down I
31:00
think it's probably 18 I don't but I
31:02
don't know I don't even know all right
31:04
there it was then
31:06
early 80s
31:12
probably and then this is what it looks
31:12
like
31:13
now right about like
31:16
that that's more accurate you can even
31:19
still see the little shrub trees over
31:21
there you know what we should do let's
31:23
walk down and see if this still says
31:24
Bamboo Lane I got it beol hopefully
31:27
don't get rained on I like that you're
31:29
into this stuff cuz most people would be
31:31
bored I am not bored as a matter of fact
31:33
I'm doing some research oh you're
31:34
looking up a little bit too find out
31:35
when the markers were a thing cuz I I
31:38
feel like before your internet that was
31:40
a great idea for them to do I also feel
31:42
like the wheels are in motion and this
31:44
is all going to go vertical very very
31:46
soon the wheels are in motion oh look at
31:49
this it's not called that anymore
31:51
they've changed the name it's story Lake
31:55
now unless this was Bamboo Lane this
31:58
might be Bamboo
32:01
Lane that's interesting I think this was
32:04
Bamboo
32:11
Lane yeah I think this right here is
32:11
Bamboo Lane all right so the one that's
32:13
blocked off is Bamboo Lane that's why
32:15
it's showing up all kind of the Auburn
32:18
reddish color there so story Lake story
32:22
Lake Lane is the one next to it right
32:24
over there so we're standing right here
32:27
here at
32:34
Bamboo Lane and hopefully when they
32:34
build doesn't look like it's going to
32:35
happen Bamboo Lane might
32:39
also just go away but it'd be kind of
32:42
nice if whatever they build over there
32:43
the condos that Bamboo Lane stays here
32:47
just so there's some sort of remembrance
32:48
just for a road name I have to check
32:50
back in a few months when this place is
32:52
built to see if they demolish this
32:56
road
32:59
on the map though still considered
33:00
Bamboo Lane or bamboo Court one of the
33:03
bamboos named after the Big
33:17
Bamboo all right I think that's going to
33:17
do it for today I think I covered quite
33:19
a bit of it there wasn't a lot to show
33:22
but talked about a little bit of stuff
33:24
stood in the same spot with the big boot
33:26
big Bamboo Lounge the Boo for short was
33:30
a lot of history a lot of people have
33:31
been mentioning to me over the years
33:33
like friends who kind of remember the
33:34
place I should do an episode on it so I
33:36
did that and then I also mixed it in
33:38
with some Florida project stuff anything
33:40
you want to yeah thank anything you want
33:42
to mention it was so fun hanging out
33:44
with Adam on another one of his
33:46
adventures uh no yeah thanks for
33:48
everybody all right I'll see you in the
33:50
next video the
33:51
Vlog and the property where the Big
33:54
Bamboo stood is that the
