0:13 place I've been wanting to check out for
0:14 quite some time I'm inviting you to join

0:21 loaded up and heading out I know and I
0:25 agree big the foot his car rides are
0:27 nice just to get out and cruise down the
0:30 freeway I totally remember the
0:32 conversation about the carpool lane I
0:35 still don't think it's justified in our
0:37 case to merge over there you don't
0:40 really need a traffic's flowing pretty
0:41 good oh yeah definitely can be
0:44 classified under classic car alerts exit
0:48 it off the 405 freeway and have arrived
0:51 in Culver City the thing I really like
0:55 about this place is all the unique
0:57 signage retro goodness from years gone
1:02 by
1:08 a few more antiques on the side of those
1:08 buildings over there as well
1:10 corner of Sepulveda Boulevard and
1:15 Washington Place those are the cross
1:20 streets the establishment is about that
1:23 30 30 feet or so from this intersection
1:27 I've always heard good things about this
1:30 place and finally I am seeing it with my
1:35 own eyes Johnny's French Dip pastrami
1:40 hot dogs food to go and other famous
1:44 foods it might be kind of tough to
1:46 decide because I do like hot dogs but I
1:48 also like pastrami it's gonna be guy
1:50 flipping a coin basically to choose and
1:52 not just any old hot dog charcoal
1:54 charcoal broiled and I always certainly
1:57 enjoy a go coca-cola classic piece of
1:59 signage the building itself just screams
2:02 nostalgia
2:05 something from the good old days quite a
2:07 congregation of folks here at the same
2:09 idea that I have has been going strong
2:11 since 1952 and they are cash only no
2:16 credit cards right there see cash only
2:18 okay this is good you can order a half
2:20 of a hot pastrami get the half hand a
2:23 hot dog okay my mind's made up good
2:26 thing you can get a happen not a fool
2:27 look at this this is a artwork of the
2:29 leaning tower of pastrami on the back of
2:32 the menu I have placed my order while I
2:34 was waiting in line they alerted
2:37 everyone that after you got your menu
2:40 items and you know paid with cash total
2:44 came to 20 dollars and 62 cents for what
2:48 I got you'll see momentarily however
2:49 they stated it would be a 45-minute wait
2:53 before all that all everything was
2:56 completely ready to take it to go you
2:59 cannot sit inside there is a patio where
3:01 people are waiting you cannot eat on the
3:04 patio but there is a park about a block
3:06 away and they did not have bottles of
3:08 water so I got water in this cup here
3:12 with the logo on the front
3:13 this is the patio is referring to nice
3:16 and shaded there are some other options
3:17 too steak and shrimp they also have an
3:21 ATM on site for those who forgot cash
3:23 everyone carries cash but they have one
3:25 if you need it I'm also just noticing
3:27 that it is open air they do have a
3:29 screen here in the forefront the address
3:33 specific address is 4 0 1 7 Sepulveda
3:53 started to get a little thirsty I have
3:53 dangled my covering under my ear good
4:02 h2o it's a paper straw
4:10 it's kind of half-and-half on Southern
4:10 California locations whether you get a
4:12 paper or a plastic straw for a while
4:15 everyone have paper straws but now that
4:16 I've been doing you know these eating
4:18 out adventures I'm noticing quite a few
4:21 still have plastic but Johnny's little
4:25 paper I've also learned that if you want
4:28 to go and eat at places around here
4:31 you have to abide by the rules this is
4:33 pretty much the standard
4:43 see the freeway traffic going by up
4:43 there place certainly is a beehive of
4:48 activity very popular there are
4:51 occasions when a place will give you a
4:53 little bit longer wait time just so
4:55 you're not you know just so you're not
4:56 like expecting it earlier than that when
4:59 they said 45 minutes they were telling
5:02 the truth it's taken it's it's busy but
5:04 in all honesty I don't mind one thing
5:07 about the current you know the current
5:08 state of things the last few months it's
5:10 kind of has helped me be a little bit
5:12 more patient person that's the truth and
5:15 for that I am grateful not that we have
5:16 a whole lot of choice in the matter but
5:19 I am happy that you know it's kind of
5:21 kind of test you a little bit and makes
5:23 you realize just don't be in a hurry
5:26 just just wait it out in a field gonna
5:28 be all right there's a lot of Hoops and
5:30 obstacles that we all have to in order
5:33 to make things happen you have to go
5:35 through to make oh there goes a bus
5:37 there goes a bus I have a feeling
5:40 however that mine is up in the very near
5:43 future no confirmation on that and I
5:45 have no no way of proving it but it's
5:47 just just a feeling it's been said I've
5:49 heard that there's a saying that
5:51 patience is a virtue and can be rewarded
5:55 with half a pastrami sandwich and a
5:57 hotdog I just actually that's really not
6:00 the saying I just made that up about a
6:01 block or two are some picnic tables in a
6:05 park telephone park here in Culver City
6:09 this table has my name all over it well
6:12 not really my name is not written on
6:14 there but it's a figure of speech and
6:16 this is what we're dealing with I am
6:20 going to regret not refilling this with
6:24 water there's only the very the ice is
6:26 melted and there's maybe only about two
6:29 or three ounces left but I'm gonna I'm
6:31 gonna I'm gonna make my way through
6:35 consuming this meal even without it this
6:39 is the array
6:48 goodness that was presented to me and
6:49 even though they have extended they said
6:51 45 minutes it probably took more like
6:52 closer to an hour maybe even a minute or
6:55 two after an hour but sitting there
6:58 watching the employees at work I must
7:00 commend them on being able to juggle the
7:04 sheer amount of people who were showing
7:06 up keeping everything in perfect order
7:08 they know what they're doing as far as
7:10 getting everybody keeping everybody
7:12 happy
7:13 oh wow these pickles well there's some
7:17 pickles down in here I didn't even ask
7:18 for these this must be complimentary and
7:20 I see a pepper kind of wedged into one
7:23 of these our dill or sweet pickles I've
7:28 taken the box top and flattened it out
7:30 I'm gonna use that as a makeshift plate
7:32 and then I've also got what is this okay
7:35 here okay all right so these might be
7:38 dill and those might be sweet find out
7:42 momentarily and then this is the the
7:45 hotdog here and the half of the pastrami
7:52 sandwich let's open up the hotdog and
7:54 just get a take a gander at this thing
7:58 oh yeah look at that there is no
8:01 condiments on it as far as I can tell no
8:04 condiments just the cheese and let's
8:07 unwrap this it's almost like a oh it's
8:11 like a present of sorts have provided
8:13 plenty of napkins which I really like it
8:15 but my what's left of my beverage on top
8:18 of it there so it does not blow it wears
8:20 a lot of it's very windy out here I'm
8:22 gonna go in I'm gonna go in for the
8:24 pastrami first of all oh yeah good thing
8:29 it's a half and not a whole well I mean
8:33 I'm not really this isn't my matter Sam
8:35 being the hot dog as well but there is
8:38 okay there definitely even there's no
8:40 condiments or mustard on a hot dog from
8:43 what I can see it definitely is very
8:45 prominent on the sandwich itself despite
8:50 the tray over a little closer to me and
8:52 going for it
9:20 a nice flavor to it might be the mustard
9:20 that's on here what's adding to the
9:23 extra aroma the flavorful taste but
9:27 aroma
9:38 only mustard I'm not tasting or seeing
9:38 anything other than you know the meat
9:40 obviously
10:05 hmm that's some good eating right there
10:05 I'm gonna say this is a sweet pickle and
10:07 not a dill mmm
10:17 it has a little Dylan
10:17 not as strong huh No
10:26 definitely has a dill flavor to it a
10:26 really good addition now after biting
10:28 into this so basically you just
11:11 when I was a kid he dill pickles by the
11:11 char fool bigger the jars are better and
11:15 then I would get I haven't done this in
11:16 my adult life really but when I was a
11:19 youth it would finish the jar of pickles
11:22 and I would still be creating that a
11:23 wonderful taste
11:26 and I would drink every last drop of the
11:31 pickle juice oh my the pepper juice has
11:34 drifted into the pickle on that last
11:36 bite I had and I'm now I'm now tasting
11:38 it and feeling it I talked myself into
11:41 it I have placed the pickle while one of
11:44 the two pickles inside the bread and the
11:48 meat in the mustard
12:03 sidenote this will be the last bite of
12:03 the pastrami
12:19 don't pull me on this but I think the
12:19 pickles are kind of their thing
12:26 and well you know what I don't have a
12:26 lot of I don't have a lot of water
12:50 I'm using the dill flavoring as a little
12:50 chaser
12:56 only because there's only on Alcatraz
12:56 laughing
12:59 a little better hoop
13:03 who that kind of and I know for those
13:06 who are self-proclaimed aficionados of
13:09 heating peppers these are probably
13:11 nothing on a scale of one to extreme but
13:16 how do we haven't eaten a lot of peppers
13:19 until recently oh I'm getting there
13:21 slowly but surely moving on to the
13:24 hotdogs the sign stated Vienna style dog
13:29 now I've had Vienna on a Chicago dog
13:31 they did not have that option at this
13:33 particular establishment so I just went
13:35 with a cheese regular oh oh look at this
13:41 dang it dang it
13:42 I made a little bit of a mess here I'm
13:46 gonna work through without I'm gonna put
13:47 the two buns back together and give it a
13:49 shirt okay you can definitely see the
13:53 way that it is cooked
14:03 whoa this cheese is going everywhere it
14:03 has the grill markings on it the grill
14:07 markings are very very noticeable there
14:10 are there is nothing there's no mustard
14:12 will spicy mustard on this would have
14:15 been nice but there is nothing it's just
14:24 sands sands any sort of toppings let's
14:24 do it
14:26 it's gonna be much better though if I
14:27 would have gotten something on its a
14:30 mustard or something without a doubt in
14:32 my opinion this was the least favorite
14:35 of all the items I have the pastrami
14:40 I love the pastrami the pickles
14:46 excellent hotdogs in this fashion now
14:51 obviously a lot of it could have been my
14:53 error what I ordered chili on this would
14:56 be good I'm glad I didn't just get just
14:58 a hot dog I feel like that would have
15:02 been a lackluster experience the amount
15:04 of time I waited it's good but it's not
15:09 an hour long wait good you add that
15:12 pastrami and you mix up there it makes
15:14 the bag up a little bit can I wait an
15:17 hour I did wait
15:19 the cheese is fresh grated I can taste
15:23 the cheese very cheddar II which I like
15:28 so much in fact that there still a lot
15:30 just kind of laying on top of this
15:33 checkerboarded piece of paper good
15:37 cheese people behind me go in he's
15:41 actually gonna slide all that cheese in
15:45 his mouth
15:54 during the current timeframe well let me
15:54 let me let me give you a little
15:55 backstory anybody who has not familiar
15:57 with living or traveling or commuting
16:00 through Greater Los Angeles area or
16:02 Orange County is anywhere in Southern
16:04 California it is other than the last few
16:07 months it is a very congested when it
16:11 comes to traffic you know to go 20 miles
16:13 will take you an hour sometimes an hour
16:15 and a half you're looking at a 35 mile
16:17 drive you're looking an hour and a half
16:18 sometimes an hour and 45 minutes on a
16:21 bad day other places that I have lived
16:23 and traveled when you look you know you
16:25 look on here your Maps app or whatever
16:28 you're you're using as a gauge on
16:31 distance when you see 30 miles you think
16:34 it's gonna be out 30 minutes the ratio
16:35 of one mile to one minute is pretty much
16:39 the par for the course when it comes to
16:42 an on city Los Angeles takes it to a
16:45 next level it's usually half of that so
16:48 30 miles think of an hour that's a good
16:51 rule of thumb
16:53 during the last well during the series
16:56 how long I've been going it has it has
16:58 been a wonderful thing I can go almost
17:02 you know I can go 25 miles on a
17:04 half-hour or 25 miles in 40 minutes
17:08 nowhere near the normal hour timeframe
17:11 you know I can get pretty much anywhere
17:12 around anywhere that I've been going
17:14 through the course of this over this
17:16 last month of doing this it has taken me
17:18 no more than an hour to get to any of
17:19 the spots which is unheard of now there
17:22 is a flip side to that because
17:34 nearly every spot you've had to wait a
17:34 lot longer because there are less staff
17:37 on board all of the different
17:39 regulations that are happening that they
17:41 have to adhere to you have the good
17:43 thing about there not being traffic
17:45 during this even though I've noticed it
17:46 is starting to pick up a little bit it's
17:49 gonna be back to a semi-regular traffic
17:52 pattern soon enough I can I can already
17:55 see it that happening it's big kind of
17:59 balances out I get to the places quicker
18:00 but I have to wait a little bit longer
18:02 either in line or for them to prepare so
18:06 it's kind of like half and half I will
18:09 choose waiting at an establishment much
18:13 more than waiting in traffic even though
18:15 the timeframe combined the two works out
18:17 to be the same
18:30 LA traffic is a it's a thing there's a
18:30 real thing
18:38 no matter where to anyone is from they
18:38 will always state trust me I know this
18:40 they will always take that there traffic
18:42 is worse just how it is
18:49 Chicago has really bad traffic oh
18:49 goodness
18:51 Chicago was bad driving through
18:53 Manhattan collect in rush hour not a
18:58 pleasant enjoyable experience I would
19:01 put those up with that line the top
19:05 three for me in my US travels with just
19:08 a little bit to spare I didn't really I
19:10 didn't really drink much of my my water
19:13 that I have left I'm not sure why I made
19:20 that statement why I'm excited about it
19:22 but I just did that's gonna do it for
