0:03 welcome everyone Adam the whoo here
0:03 today number three of my adventure on
0:07 route 66 starting in Santa Monica
0:09 California and hopefully ending in
0:12 Chicago Illinois today I begin in
0:15 Seligman Arizona and heading eastwards
0:20 join me shall you judging by the outcome
0:24 of this $5 plane ride I'm gonna have to
0:27 take a pass on that one this is how far
0:30 we've gone and how far we still have to
0:35 go oh yes not too much activity early
0:41 morning but the mannequins on the roof
0:43 are in full effect hanging out up top
0:48 hanging out down below stationary
0:53 mannequins everywhere some of the way
0:56 this one looks very familiar
0:59 not this one so much but this one hey
1:02 Adam can we bring with us one could not
1:06 help but think of the Pixar movie Cars
1:08 when in this area and at no spot is the
1:11 nostalgia and history more evident than
1:14 right here in this store because this
1:18 little store also is home to a
1:21 barbershop as the story goes John
1:24 Lasseter himself got his hair cut by
1:26 this gentleman angel the mayor of route
1:30 66 and some say got the inspiration for
1:34 the movie Cars by sitting right in this
1:37 room above the front register look
1:40 closely you'll see Buzz and Woody up top
1:43 cartoon form well they are cartoons but
1:45 you know that they're drawing by
1:47 Lasseter himself another popular place
1:49 in town is the snow cap and around back
1:51 some good photo opportunities just
1:54 follow the miniature Mother Road not the
1:56 yellow brick road
1:57 but the Mother Road trust me it's a
2:01 humdinger park at your own risk
2:03 trust me they're watching you they're
2:06 watching you except for these two
2:08 they're not staring at me in fact
2:10 they're not even looking at each other
2:11 looking complete polar opposite
2:13 directions like they must be feuding
2:16 arriving now in ash fork the flagstone
2:21 capital of the world
2:23 vehicle perched on top of that hair
2:25 salon ultimate parking spot the Yanks
2:28 are coming kiss your butt goodbye huh
2:36 it's like stepping back in time looking
2:39 at this old school Dairy Queen they
2:42 don't make them like this too much
2:43 anymore the last town bypassed by
2:46 interstate 40 Williams Arizona the main
2:49 drag has plenty of gift shops diners and
2:52 old neon can no longer fill up for gas
2:56 but you can buy some souvenirs here down
2:58 this corridor is the world's largest
3:01 shield sign oh I see it back there just
3:05 follow the burma-shave advertisements
3:18 while there are no magnets on these
3:18 fenders there's definitely a plethora of
3:20 them on this one wild west junction
3:24 looks like a quaint little quiet
3:27 community they do have a sheriff's
3:29 office we don't allow rebels in this
3:36 town you cause trouble I'm gonna put you
3:39 in here with the rest of the criminals
3:41 be on the lookout for Bill Doolin if you
3:44 find them at $5,000 coming you're a
3:47 trained car that's been converted into
3:49 it looks to be oh yeah a makeshift
3:53 bridge you can walk across this dry
3:57 riverbed for whatever reason it's not
4:00 open tonight but there
4:01 zip line you can zipline across a
4:04 parking lot in an old classic car at the
4:08 red garter seems to be a woman waving us
4:13 in with her accessory there she has like
4:15 a little scarf around her neck she's
4:17 waving us waving us over t-shirt states
4:19 that good girls are soon forgotten
4:22 here in Williams so that's that's called
4:24 a boa jacob reminded me that's a boa not
4:27 a scarf inside is a little diner Oh
4:34 check out that shirt this might be a
4:34 seat it might actually be a chair carve
4:37 this old man has been carved out of a
4:40 tree you can sit in his lap and sit in
4:43 his hands
4:44 cute couple in there oh you guys want
4:46 your bro sorry they want they want their
4:48 privacy I didn't realize they were they
4:50 were parking that makes you feel like a
4:59 man right and bear made it to Flagstaff
5:04 I'm gonna step inside the Visitor Center
5:08 circa 1920s mural just above a miniature
5:12 train track that passes the miniature
5:16 tab doesn't appear as if the Train is
5:18 moving though it's it's sitting stagnant
5:20 nice assortment of oven mitts bandanas
5:23 pot holders and I don't know this does
5:27 might look good good on me 15 cents a
5:30 gallon this is a memento of back when
5:33 fuel was slightly less expensive
5:36 something called jumping cactus and it's
5:39 candy I guess you're supposed to eat
5:42 this you know how much I love murals but
5:44 you may not know how much I love
5:48 Jackalopes
5:49 I never knew the Beatles crossed route
5:52 66 news to me and we should be visiting
5:58 twin arrows a little bit later today
6:00 this is a foreshadowing as mentioned a
6:03 moment ago there they are twin arrows
6:05 still standing strong the gas station
6:09 next door has been abandoned
6:12 pretty much for years
6:23 floors not structurally sound nor is the
6:23 roof seemed better days
6:26 that's for sure no burgers being sold at
6:30 this diner not for quite some time but
6:33 nonetheless still a fantastic piece of
6:36 roadside americana
6:38 incredibly windy out here in the desert
6:40 but that's not gonna stop me from seeing
6:44 the relics of an old zoo mountain lions
6:48 even some of the cages are still left to
6:51 rot out here probably not safe to be
6:54 sitting in here structural stability not
6:59 this thing's most finest asset the
7:02 bridge over Diablo Canyon here in two
7:05 guns was one of the few that was used as
7:08 an inspiration for some of the ones in
7:11 the movie Cars this looks inviting an
7:18 open door leading into an area in a
7:21 closed area now I have been out here on
7:23 this premises before this is the first
7:27 time that I discovered right down there
7:30 the Apache death in order in order to
7:37 get down to it you have to brave this
7:40 rocky terrain followed by going downward
7:47 down this rickety Indiana Jones Temple
7:53 of Doom type type of bridge I don't know
7:57 about this I'm having second thoughts
7:59 I'm having second thoughts what do you
8:03 think
8:11 okay I'm bailing more I think about it
8:11 it might have been a sign because it's a
8:13 little bit of dark history with what's
8:15 down there might be bad mojo to set foot
8:18 so could be a sign that and the thought
8:21 of hurting myself and getting stuck down
8:22 in that pit not here at the meteor city
8:27 Trading Post there is a partial fence
8:31 this wooden fence used to stretch way
8:35 down this way but it fell over years ago
8:38 and now they've replaced it with a
8:41 chain-link barbed wire one the reason I
8:44 bring it up is it used to be the
8:45 self-proclaimed longest fence that had a
8:48 painting of route 66 on it but it's no
8:51 longer there it's been erased from
8:53 existence even though it's now closed
8:56 and boarded up I will always be reminded
8:58 of the 1984 movie star man filmed right
9:02 inside that gift shop there are however
9:04 a couple of other structures that are
9:07 accessible back here it's a little
9:11 kitchen area and over here they used to
9:14 have different things for sale when the
9:16 tourists would come by
9:33 don't really know what's around this
9:33 corner hello hello this was obviously
9:41 where the caretaker of the property
9:44 lived oh look at that guy he's stand-in
9:46 on the corner in Winslow Arizona taking
9:50 it easy he was taking it easy if you're
9:56 looking for one of the iconic staples of
9:59 Mother Road here it is the jackrabbit
10:13 trading even though there's plenty of
10:18 things for sale don't even think about
10:21 trying to purchase anything on the top
10:24 shelf a nice assortment of magnets I
10:28 think I'm leaning towards purchasing
10:32 this one back here appears to be a
10:36 little museum yeah got some artifacts
10:39 lobs big boy up there looking stylish
10:42 he's not holding the hamburger usually
10:44 he has a hamburger in his hand some
10:46 fanart photos of a simpler time and
10:51 sweet trucker hat look at that thing
10:54 coca-cola
10:55 no longer comes in a tub of that
10:57 magnitude but that could knock out your
10:59 thirst with a quickness certain sections
11:03 you get to have the opportunity like
11:04 we're about to have left hand side is
11:07 the freeway right hand side is a train
11:11 passing by we're going right down the
11:14 middle
11:15 geronimo Trading Post states that this
11:17 is the largest petrified tree in the
11:21 world
11:23 I think it's cut into three different
11:24 sections however but imagine if that was
11:26 all one piece towering high completely
11:30 petrified solid rock imagine trying to
11:35 move that thing as the day slowly gets
11:37 away from us it's time to eat at the
11:40 Butterfield steak house oh yes some
11:45 restaurants knock your socks off this
11:48 place makes you remove your pants to
11:51 gain entry you must make your way
11:53 through the middle of a stagecoach like
11:59 the vibe of this place some Longhorns on
12:02 top of each of the booths you hungry I
12:05 will be opting for this amazing looking
12:08 salad bar plenty of information to get
12:11 caught up on why you eat this placards
12:13 all about Jesse James and his family
12:15 this is what we're dealing with I got a
12:17 little ranch dressing on top of the
12:19 lettuce and you went full steak meat
