today's adventure begins in Downey
0:02
California Taco Bell an establishment
0:08
that honestly needs no introduction with
0:11
over 7,000 stores you have no doubt
0:16
either eaten at one or past many in your
0:21
timeframe on this very block the very
0:24
first one opened back in 1962
0:31
in fact just across the street from this
0:31
current modern-day version where all
0:34
that construction is now taking place
0:38
progress is everywhere sometimes you
0:41
just got a step out of its way
0:50
and let it do its thing welcome everyone
0:50
Adam the Wu here just a few feet from
0:52
where I'm standing is where that
0:55
building deemed and named numero uno by
0:59
the company set from 1962 until late
1:04
2015 in fact Taco Bell promoted a
1:08
campaign to save its very first
1:12
structure and it was moved nearly 35
1:16
miles south of right here I'm gonna show
1:19
that spot in case you were wondering
1:23
what happened what happened to it after
1:26
all the hoopla the hype and the saving
1:30
of numero numero and
1:36
you know I've invited you to join me
1:46
got tongue-tied shalya it has been 4
1:46
years to the month November of 15
1:51
it was uprooted
1:54
from here
2:06
the onus would never know it existed now
2:06
just a fence line and some vehicles
2:09
parked behind it from this angle you can
2:12
tell they have even repaved part of the
2:15
concrete where it used to be
2:30
taking on a flatbed under the Shroud of
2:30
nightfall transport it on its commute
2:40
to their headquarters I ended up
2:40
arriving to Irvine on that faithful day
2:42
just to witness history but after all
2:44
this time have gotten a little curious
2:46
if it is now on display for all to see
2:50
that relic and piece of history that was
2:55
once right here the difficult part about
2:57
this is to curb my cravings I'm already
3:03
starting to desire a taco
3:07
can you blame me
3:22
that first address seven-11 to firestone
3:22
Boulevard
3:31
perfect guess the old saying is true
3:31
out with the old in
3:36
with the new what is the percentage of
3:39
passing vehicles that have any idea of
3:46
the history to their right
3:52
it's tough to tell sometimes because it
3:52
just is an air freshener I think big the
3:56
foot might be a little excited to be
3:57
following in fast-food footsteps after
4:01
about an hour so Southern California
4:04
traffic I have arrived at one Glenn Bell
4:07
way the headquarters a road named after
4:12
its founder and if all goes well the
4:16
subject matter will be somewhere planted
4:20
on this premises
4:28
before stepping onto the property itself
4:28
staying on the public sidewalks from
4:31
this bird's eye perspective looking
4:34
downward and I do believe in the far
4:37
right corner is the item in question
4:39
tucked away right over near the freeway
4:50
looks to be covered now and shrink-wrap
4:50
very hidden
5:06
just sitting here
5:09
not for all to see only those with a
5:12
keen eye
5:18
almost as if it's a taking up a parking
5:18
spot the employee parking area
5:32
about three or four spots combined
5:32
not too big
5:38
back in the early 60s they did not have
5:38
drive-throughs just walked up to the
5:41
window and order
5:51
once again most likely unbeknownst to
5:51
travelers
6:13
it's transport beams seem to still be
6:13
placed under the belly of it the back
6:16
corner
6:18
pane of the number 33 steel beams
6:29
there are a handful of these style
6:29
original taco bells all right most have
6:33
been converted into other restaurants
6:35
and establishments but make no doubt
6:39
about it this is the first
6:49
the far-right would be the front and
6:49
entry point and that now iconic overhang
6:53
we are looking from the back and the
6:56
rear both the side of the rear
7:00
roofline those shingles decades old
7:09
those things could talk tell some
7:09
stories some of the original customers
7:12
that would consume some food from this
7:16
establishment
9:51
no confirmation if this was mounted on
9:51
the front of the structure or not I did
9:54
ask no clear-cut answer and look at this
10:00
little guy how cute
10:02
although is behind this class for his
10:04
protection cannot be touched I was
10:06
allowed to get a quick little video and
10:08
photo of him now this facility is not
10:11
open to the general public
10:13
you cannot wander end there is no room
10:17
set up for artifacts or a museum for
10:21
those off the street however probably
10:24
the best relic can be seen from above
10:26
from the sidewalk view covered in
10:30
shrink-wrap a distant relative what this
10:35
company has become the magnitude the
10:38
size
10:40
the sheer amount of locations
10:43
who would have known back in the early
10:45
60s
11:05
here's a photo before was moved lifted
11:05
up onto the beams over and down II and
11:09
then cruising down the road a very slow
11:14
pace in the middle of the evening and
11:15
overnight accomplishment oversize load
11:20
coming through
11:22
that's what's underneath all that shrink
11:25
wrap pretty cool and also for posterity
11:30
there's me in front of it November 2015
11:35
before it was parked around the back
11:37
corner that's in front of the
11:39
headquarters that's gonna do it for
11:48

uno
13:57
or is it wrapped up
