the serenity of a cool crisp

Pennsylvania stream but do not let the
0:16
peacefulness and beauty fool you because
0:21
since 1958
0:23
a horror has loomed over this community

don't be alarmed that's just a blu-ray
0:40
welcome everyone Adam the Wu here today
0:45
I will be delving deep down the rabbit
0:48
hole in and around the small town of
0:51
Phoenixville looking searching and
0:54
hopefully not finding the creature we
0:58
all know and some love some are afraid
1:02
of the blob join me shall you when it
1:08
comes to this subject matter one must
1:11
start off with the historic colonial
1:13
theater I'm beginning the video with
1:16
this and most likely we'll be ending my
1:19
favorite thing about this is they have
1:21
recreated a lettering on the marquee as
1:23
it was 60 years ago and replaced the
1:26
banners give it up for air conditioning
1:30
I'd like to do an impromptu filming
1:32
location tour around the area but who
1:35
can I find locally to help me out and
1:38
possibly someone who's really into films
1:41
the question is where oh where can I
1:44
find such a person no it's like might be
1:48
jammed hello and welcome to the set of a
1:54
sickness media library we have plenty of
1:57
VHS more DVDs than your local
2:00
blockbuster ever had one blu-rays we
2:03
have hundreds and for you video files
2:05
the latest in 4k even an old-school
2:09
format beta to the max this stuff is
2:14
awesome there's a little bit of
2:15
everything in here so cool it's a sir
2:20
please don't touch that
2:22
some old
2:22
cool Disney I love that Epcot and all
2:25
the live-action
2:27
clamshell boxes some of these are pretty
2:29
tough to find just a few laser discs
2:32
super 8 8 millimeter 35 millimeter
2:37
didn't even notice at first but all
2:39
along the rafters they're stuffed tucked
2:42
away way up there I'm all researched up
2:44
let's roll the grocery store in the film
2:49
is now a Dollar General divided into two
2:51
sections the front door would have been
2:54
right around here now this part is
2:58
closed now and that is where the meat
3:01
locker in the back the cooler where The
3:03
Blob used underneath the open area
3:07
happened here's a screenshot of the
3:09
townfolk and Steve McQueen trying to let
3:12
them know what's going on you'll see the
3:14
fire truck in the shot they would have
3:16
all been congregated right here in this
3:20
parking lot
3:20
facing the grocery store very tough to
3:23
see but I have the camera peeking in the
3:25
window you can see they left the facade
3:27
wall that has been built separating the
3:29
two shops but there used to be grocery
3:33
store aisles this section of the
3:34
premises however still use for retail my
3:37
calculations are correct past that new
3:40
wall is where the cooler would have been
3:43
you see anything blob related in here no
3:45
not really you all right man you all
3:52
right that's a snack that me it's a
3:55
snack pack oh where the townfolk are
3:58
rounding the corner of that building on
4:01
the right of this photo is down at the
4:04
bottom of this hill near the end of this
4:08
sidewalk the light poles have been
4:10
changed over the years but they are in
4:12
the appropriate spot the only major
4:15
difference when it comes to the woodwork
4:19
here it's been repainted you can see
4:21
it's a dark brown current-day I believe
4:25
back in 58 it was a lighter color with
4:29
all the townfolk but of rau
4:30
that very corner gonna walk up these
4:33
stairs now and get an overview of where
4:37
it happened in the empty lot you see
4:41
straight ahead there was a building that
4:43
you could see in the shot but they want
4:47
to all been running right along there
4:49
and then turned this corner straight up
4:55
this hill
5:08
these old bridges always remind me of
5:08
beetlejuice
5:09
the property of the diner looks
5:10
considerably different the premises is
5:14
the same but the facade has changed they
5:18
moved the old one and rebuilt a totally
5:21
different one on the same location
5:23
however the basement underneath this
5:26
still exists my best educated guess is
5:29
this stairwell and that door leads into
5:32
the former basement to see down there
5:34
it's a little bit of water standing but
5:37
through there it's where the blob was
5:40
look closely it looks as if part of it
5:43
is oozing through that vent cover right
5:46
there look there it is inside now it
5:50
looks pretty similar obviously not the
5:52
same building but you know it's still a
5:55
typical old-school diner still get that
5:57
still get that vibe designated on this
5:59
marker board check that out
6:02
soup of the day is chicken orzo or clam
6:06
chowder taking a look at the menu here
6:08
and I think inside there are some
6:10
certain sandwiches designated what page
6:13
was that on oh there it is special blob
6:16
sandwiches quite a few on the list there
6:19
a little blotch there showed on the sign
6:22
as well open 24 hours the Downingtown
6:25
diner and I did ask to go down below
6:30
they promptly told me no did get a
6:34
little daring however I got our photo
6:35
down at that
6:37
at the bottom of the stairwell that's as
6:40
close as I want to get made it up the
6:42
road a bit to the Yellow Springs library
6:44
and I'm noticing here on the side of the
6:47
building Hollywood in Pickering Creek
6:50
and there's a photo here that's Steve
6:54
McQueen down there which means somewhere
6:56
around this premises were the interior
6:59
shots in the studio that's awesome not
7:02
only did he stay on site but he also
7:05
honeymooned out here I did not know that
7:09
it was a little bit more information
7:10
good news productions occupied this
7:13
whole area from 52 to 74 and they are
7:16
designating three different spots studio
7:19
a Studio C and Studio B and Studio B is
7:26
that burned down area you see the
7:29
fireman putting out the flames there at
7:33
the base you'd see some little rock
7:35
formations those are still standing and
7:40
after further investigation I'm thinking
7:44
that these were living accommodations
7:47
and they didn't film anything inside
7:49
their Studio B is accessible to just
7:53
step over the top of that formation and
7:56
we are inside movie history pretty
8:04
freakin cool
8:05
originally it was a Revolutionary War
8:08
Hospital before Hollywood came a-callin
8:20
ICU artistic rendering of studio a from
8:20
back in the olden days and modern day
8:24
still looks the same I was just informed
8:26
that studio C housed the interiors of
8:29
the police station which you see
8:32
directly before me the interesting thing
8:35
is right next to it is the real live
8:38
West Pike hland Township police station
8:41
they still do productions Pennsylvania
8:43
Academy of Fine Arts it's still active
8:48
this day at the time this was also a
8:50
sound recording I'm not a hundred
8:53
percent sure if right up here was that
8:56
they're back in the day but this is one
8:59
of the rooms right here and they are
9:00
currently practicing for a future play
9:03
moving right along
9:05
in reality all of these spots are about
9:07
a 30-mile radius they're not all in the
9:10
same exact area get to travel just a
9:13
little bit the office of dr. Howlin
9:16
stands before me this is where the youth
9:21
pulled up with the older gentleman who
9:23
had a bit of the blob on his arm their
9:27
car would have pulled up and parked
9:29
right there and they would have escorted
9:31
him in to the front doors and your
9:36
friend he likes being scratched there's
9:39
the front doors and there's where the
9:43
doctors sign would have been mounted
9:45
right there on that post to see the
9:47
porch used to be a much lighter color
9:49
than it is now
9:51
it's been over painted green current day
9:55
the building itself has been here since
9:57
1890 the owner is kind enough to let me
10:01
up on the porch and get a little a
10:04
little better view Herbie the lovebug
10:06
that's a that's a clever name I like
10:08
that great tunes great to meet you
10:11
Herbie the real mystery is which exact
10:13
window did he get attacked at there are
10:16
two of them that look very similar in
10:19
the brickwork to the left are the same
10:22
so it could be the long one on the left
10:26
or the shorter one on the right but in
10:30
one of these two
10:31
the doc met his demise samuel k berkeley
10:35
school you'll notice down here on the
10:38
ground is a sidewalk they use this as a
10:42
driveway what you would think to be a
10:44
road is where they pulled a vehicle up
10:48
and also in this little corridor leading
10:52
to these doors a rock was grabbed off
10:56
the ground in this section and used to
10:59
smash the window of the former doors
11:02
that were right here notice the
11:05
brickwork and concrete lining along the
11:08
wall that still remains as they climb
11:12
those very steps and their vehicle would
11:16
have been stationed right about there at
11:19
first glance I thought the signage was
11:21
going to state
11:22
do not throw rocks through our window
11:24
but alas they say something totally
11:26
different it's no longer open for
11:28
business sitting here more or less
11:30
abandoned but this is the mechanic shop
11:33
for the guy working on the car did not
11:36
see it coming he was attacked viciously
11:41
in order to match it up pay close
11:43
attention to those two windows in the
11:46
background into the far right past the
11:48
windows can barely see it behind the
11:51
toolboxes is a door peeking into the
11:54
window now you can see what was in that
11:55
photo there's the door
11:58
and there's the two windows and the
12:03
gentlemen under the car was right there
12:06
on the floor right about near that pole
12:10
would be the perfect place for an oil
12:11
change
12:12
that is if you don't want to get
12:14
devoured by some sort of creature the
12:18
line has formulated for those who have
12:21
tickets to the run out and it stretches
12:23
back a very long distance car Ford
12:27
pinball machine and look up here it's
12:30
been fee
12:31
adequately in case you were wondering
12:34
there will be absolutely no alcohol for
12:37
the run-outs and for good reason rub me
12:40
for good luck all right it says - I'm
12:43
gonna I'm out of rub yes I'm rubbing it
12:47
through this wall in the year 1958 the
12:51
blob brought the monster into the movie
12:54
theater that is where it crept through
12:56
the holes I've always wanted to see this
12:59
in person I always wonder what it would
13:00
look like to turn around from your seats
13:02
and see that monster using through the
13:05
wall
13:22
the actual projector ring where the
13:22
projectionist in the film is attacked
13:26
this is pretty amazing I absolutely love
13:29
being in here this movie history here at
13:33
the Colonial Theatre tucked away over
13:35
here in the corner is a little photo op
13:37
all you have to do is just stick your
13:40
head or heads through those holes we're
13:45
now inside the belly of the beast kind
13:48
of sticky
13:50
I was worried like Axe body spray
13:56
through the gooeyness it is exuding
14:00
illumination I think this one swallowed
14:03
some Christmas lights
14:05
it's a LEGO version of the old man that
14:07
had his hand consumed by the smaller
14:10
version of this it's a full-on Lego
14:14
theater you can see what's gonna happen
14:16
shortly to run out right down there and
14:20
over here is a recreation of the diner
14:23
that is pretty cool
15:06
insufficient address instead our offices
15:06
but now we can return to tender 1958 60
15:11
