0:45 parking lots are open and accessible
0:50 wasn't like this a couple weeks ago

1:10 and a slight teaser of where I'm heading

1:13 met up with Jay and I'm noticing that
1:16 Orange County we might be the only ones
1:19 out here that have these on at the
1:21 moment it appears that none of people
1:23 like wearing them or there's there's a
1:25 few I saw wondered it's a low percentile
1:27 here in say Bria yes so we're just gonna
1:30 play it by ear will keep them on when we
1:32 order a food but obviously we eat we'll
1:33 take these off and you know a little bit
1:36 about rubies you want to give a little
1:38 detail a backstory a little bit I used
1:40 to work for rubies for about six seven
1:41 years I met the owner Doug Kavanaugh
1:44 which ruby was his mom so we started the
1:46 restaurant her namesake and here on the
1:49 island did you work at this location or
1:51 a different location but the beach which
1:53 other way just up the way a few miles
1:54 two-story building which now the top
1:57 story is a I think we gotta check that
2:00 out at some point my press a button and
2:01 it might so it might happen no that's
2:03 not this one this is Balboa
2:05 are we on Balboa Island or just on the
2:07 coast on the coast so we're on Balboa
2:09 proper correct and you were mentioning
2:11 about the mom of the owner Doug that's
2:14 where the that's where the logo came
2:17 from the Rubies girl yeah her name was
2:20 Ruby Ruby yep it had delicious food and
2:24 burgers and breakfast so your hunger
2:25 you're saying you're hungry I'm hungry
2:27 let's eat this plaque commemorates the
2:30 opening of the original Ruby's diner
2:33 December 7th 1982 they have shakes
2:39 another I got a question though
2:43 we need to burger a shake and coffee who
2:47 orders that a coffee and a burger to
2:50 give a little layout of the land this

2:59 we are right there where that icon is
3:02 we're gonna traverse out onto the wooden
3:05 dock or the pier as it's called no dogs

3:12 skateboarding it's a little gusty we are

3:17 hat getting rid of Wednesday try to blow
3:18 it off I got this little strap holding
3:20 it on and and this who are these masked
3:24 men gates are unlocked and wide open and
3:30 as you can tell there are more than a
3:33 few folks there on the sand and in the
3:36 water
3:38 this guy's going up the surfer
3:51 you call it the OC or do you call it
3:51 Orange County so I'm getting it I've
3:53 been taking a poll lately County you saw
3:58 Orange County say I live in Orange
4:01 County but if someone says the OC is
4:04 that frowned upon or is that is that
4:05 okay I would say it's frowned upon all
4:07 right you're gonna beat residents oh
4:10 okay but no one can see your frown
4:14 because you have that turn that frown
4:17 upside down
4:18 Jack and let it loose we're in the OC
4:55 oh yeah I can already smell the food

5:22 you got all the chairs stacked up and
5:22 tables stacked up
5:34 this used to be a bait shop before was
5:34 converted into a restaurant that sound
5:39 about right about right and then the
5:41 owner said that would make a heck of a
5:43 good business opportunity let's turn a
5:45 bait shop and do a little seaside
5:48 restaurant yeah such a cool vibe you
5:58 just stand out here normally you could
6:00 sit but you can just stand out here
6:03 enjoy the ocean breeze swing by a mega
6:15 pod of dolphins yeah is that it's like a
6:17 large cluster a huge cluster they would
6:19 swim by let's see whales went by when
6:22 hurry eating is crazy
6:23 as so often
6:34 the menu is as follows they have deluxe
6:34 shakes whoa malts fountain sodas burgers
6:40 chili seafood sandwiches just a plethora
6:44 of choices all right I just got a take a
6:50 look here got omelets got items hot off
6:53 the griddle exactly what we were looking
6:57 for
7:02 Deluxe corned beef and hash I've had
7:02 that at the other location I'm gonna try
7:04 it here it is pretty you gonna get
7:07 breakfast salsa I'm still undecided
7:09 you're still undecided either maybe the
7:11 burrito
7:12 or a burger well I could get breakfast
7:14 and you can get yeah yeah we get the
7:18 best of both worlds going on here and
7:19 they they serve ala carte stuff on the
7:22 side plenty of options and look at that
7:27 view
7:28 not too shabby each party's name so each
7:32 party gets their own one yeah yeah
7:34 because yeah there see they're standing
7:37 on once that makes sense
7:38 that kind of makes sense yeah I'm
7:41 thinking about when the theme parks open
7:43 like Disneyland etc if you're in a group
7:46 of four do you have to all be distant
7:49 from each other or can you all stand on
7:52 one key so these are the questions that
7:55 hopefully will be answered soon sooner
7:58 than later hopefully they will hopefully
8:01 you'll find out soon
8:09 look closely you can see some dolphin
8:09 fins out there oh yeah it'll look very
8:11 closely though
8:14 they're like swimming around those birds
8:17 that are also perched there in the water
8:19 they're tough to see but there's lots of
8:21 dolphins out there
8:31 it's a medium medium-well well done
8:31 medium well okay so you want to hear
8:33 when it died or whatever in life how
8:36 they get more done please
8:39 well done I believe they call that thank
8:42 you
8:53 got that taking care I'm going to have
8:53 to be patient while it cooks off in the
8:56 distance you can see that's the
8:57 Huntington Pier way down there right I
8:59 think that's how you can beat that -
9:03 Jack Newport Newport that's Newport I
9:07 don't know one after that is something
9:07 so Huntington will be way past that down
9:09 that correct okay yeah so three piers in
9:11 a row within kind of veritable I shot
9:14 yep
9:14 usually the roof is is also accessible
9:19 sit up there and add so the experience
9:23 not it's not happening today but just
9:26 letting you know for future reference
9:27 the roof is normally open a couple of
9:32 boats out there approaching
10:05 there are a couple of fellows in there
10:05 sitting those are employees and here's a
10:08 little a little better you shot of that
10:10 roof I was referring to so relaxing out
10:16 here the weather's nice nice breeze one
10:24 could say almost perfect
10:41 got some cutlery cutlery and napkins yes
10:41 so this teller inside we got the napkins
10:43 here if you want to just grab a few for

10:52 oh yeah the dolphins oh you're just
10:55 jumping having a little jumper ooh out

10:59 let's try me like a half a dozen or so
11:41 picnic tables are being utilized
11:44 okay this is happening
11:47 time for the unveiling pull back that
11:51 plastic and this is what we're dealing
11:58 with okay I went full breakfast mode
12:01 even though it's pretty much lunch time
12:03 and you went full full burger is it a
12:10 burger or the pack up an email right
12:11 there wait that's the burger
12:13 okay sourdough parmesan bread nice I
12:16 asked for a super burger which is the
12:19 beach burger without avocado I think I
12:23 would it wrong I'm supposed to order the
12:24 beach burger not to super burger you
12:28 don't like avocado I guess today I'm
12:29 gonna love it do you like guacamole
12:31 but even though guacamole is made from
12:34 avocados smooshed and you put pico de
12:36 gallo there's a mind you like it all the
12:38 kind of a mixture of it I order two
12:41 extra Alucard eggs for the total of for
12:44 the special came with two and I got some
12:47 home fries you guys call these home
12:49 fries in California in Florida they call
12:52 them home fries but what would you call
12:53 this grab the potatoes just potatoes
12:57 maybe I don't maybe they're not called
12:59 home fries and then we got I'm drawing a
13:02 blank what was this called corned beef
13:04 hash which you have recommended this
13:07 before and I had this a couple years ago
13:08 and another Ruby is so spot and I
13:11 excellent
13:20 the plane going over oh right through
13:21 then right over the Sun I'm really happy
13:24 out of all these all these series of
13:26 days I've been doing these take outs
13:28 this is the first table that's that I've
13:30 had to do a picnic on the ground we'll
13:33 bring the chairs out of the back of my
13:34 car is it the first table something it's
13:37 possibly a historic occasion to
13:40 celebrate hmm that's a burger wait there
13:49 that's a burger knew that but that's a
13:51 burger right there and these are eggs
13:53 those are eggs I do this I go always get
13:55 sunny-side up something about the fun
13:58 factor of being able to have the yolk
14:00 the yolk or the yolk spelled yolk but
14:05 you know so yolk you know make it kind
14:07 of runny could do a little smiley faces
14:09 and play with the food
14:16 there's that corned beef hash
14:16 oh yeah that's legit corned beef hash
14:23 well there's two kinds of corned beef
14:25 hash there's a fresh kind where they
14:28 cook it like made there that really
14:30 corned beef E mm-hmm and then there's
14:32 the type I call well from a can in a can
14:35 i grocery store for me that that's
14:37 what's that that's my favorite that's
14:38 what reminds me of that is that corn
14:40 that's your favorite yeah so this
14:41 reminds me more of kin style yeah really
14:43 yeah so fresh corn beef hash is like
14:45 more open almost more media cheering it
14:48 feels like shredded beef yeah it has a
14:50 weird has a totally different taste to
14:52 me then so you prefer this style oh yeah
14:54 I think this is kind of like a halfway
14:56 point it's almost like it's not like
14:59 prefabricated can but it's not the
15:02 full-on ringing it's good mixture
15:12 how's the burger it's actually really
15:12 good I didn't think the avocado woof I
15:14 don't think I tasted it either which is
15:16 a great thing
15:17 maybe maybe during all these tedious
15:19 times avocados growing on you where now
15:23 this is nice this is this is a good day
15:27 the weather like probably 70 degrees
15:30 yeah
15:32 no clouds and no clouds in the shade the
15:36 beaches are pretty much open businesses
15:41 around here at least in Orange County a
15:43 lot of them are opening slowly but
15:46 surely getting back to normal that's not
15:48 I'm gonna go in on this that's gonna do
