0:03 morning out for a
0:06 stroll good
0:08 morning out for a morning stroll Central
0:11 Florida are full of these birds called
0:14 Sand Hill
0:15 cranes and for real isn't that the most
0:20 majestic
0:30 Sunrise I love it
0:30 welcome everyone Adam the woo here it's
0:33 my second channel daily Vlog channel
0:35 it's the daily
0:38 woo this is Downtown St Cloud Florida
0:41 and it has a very rich deep history and
0:44 a lot of it's documented in this book
0:47 and I'm going to show some of it the
0:48 town is located where that Arrow points
0:51 that little dot right there in Central
0:53 Florida is St Cloud and it's nicknamed
0:55 Soldier City CU it was started as a
0:58 colony by the Grand Army of the Republic
1:00 look at that ray of light right there
1:02 looks like something out of Raiders of
1:03 the Lost
1:08 AR be
1:08 crazy even though most of St Cloud now
1:12 resides to the east of this canal
1:16 originally mostly consumerism and trade
1:20 originated down towards the end of this
1:23 Waterway right over here the most
1:26 advanced Sugar Mill of its time
1:31 and there's still some remnants of it
1:33 sitting right over there you can even
1:34 see part of the foundation right there
1:36 along the water and this was a very
1:39 pivotal point for the town because this
1:41 brought people in not only to work but
1:44 also to live and they built homes right
1:46 along this little Waterway so this was
1:49 kind of sort of the start of St Cloud
1:52 Florida right here and most people don't
1:55 realize it because town is a mile or two
1:58 to the east of this currently check out
2:00 this photo of this coin that the Sugar
2:02 Mill employees would get to spend at the
2:05 commissary but it was only good in St
2:08 Cloud and they even grew banana trees
2:10 along the canal look at
2:12 that I've never seen any foliage down
2:15 that little Waterway
2:25 before the very first person to buy land
2:25 and settle here in town was this guy
2:27 right between those two drummers his
2:29 name name was LL Mitchell in fact his
2:34 name is designated on that drum right
2:36 there to the right and he was also the
2:38 first person to die in town and there
2:42 was no Cemetery yet so they buried him
2:44 up the road and then a few years later
2:46 they moved his body to right here which
2:50 is now home to a lot of other veterans
2:53 who also colonized here in town Lucius L
2:58 Mitchell December 4th 1909 shortly after
3:02 the Sugar Mill days people started to
3:04 congregate and move to what is now
3:06 Downtown St Cloud here on the left and
3:09 this consists of what is currently
3:11 Pennsylvania Avenue New York Avenue and
3:14 Massachusetts Avenue and the downtown
3:16 sections of those three streets are the
3:18 only areas in town that have brick
3:22 instead of concrete on May 7th 1909
3:25 1,200 plots of land were sold from the
3:28 building that sat right here where this
3:30 mural now sits for $50 each just think
3:34 about that for a second for $100 you
3:36 could have had two of these owning two
3:40 properties in town for a cool hyy the
3:44 original post office is built in
3:46 1909 and it's the building on the right
3:49 basically what you're looking at here
3:50 and here is a photo of what it looked
3:52 like then you can see it matches up
3:56 pretty close to what it looked like then
3:58 and here's an even better picture of the
3:59 post office check it out and you can
4:03 faintly see the outline of where the
4:04 window was on the far left it's been
4:06 boarded and sealed over the variety
4:08 store was built in 1911 this is what it
4:11 looked like then and this is what it
4:13 looks like now and a couple years after
4:15 in
4:16 1915 the bottom floor became the town's
4:20 funeral home it's pretty crazy right and
4:23 I do believe that this is the very first
4:25 home built in town they used to have a
4:26 historical marker on the side but they
4:29 taken it down for whatever
4:31 reason this is the very first bank in
4:34 town built in
4:35 1910 it was St Cloud's First National
4:38 Bank and they even had their own
4:40 currency look at this National Bank of
4:43 St Cloud that's a 10 spot right there
4:46 you could have bought 1 F of a plot of
4:48 land with that the original grocery
4:50 store in town was a place called pins
4:52 grocery that's what it looked like then
4:54 and this is what it looks like now
4:56 almost identical another little fun fact
5:00 those top windows up there on the right
5:02 that was my old apartment of course I
5:03 didn't live there in 1915 it was a
5:05 little after that but that was the
5:06 building I lived in by the way Micah tag
5:09 he's tagging along with me as well you
5:11 enjoying yourself I am I don't want to
5:13 go outside it's it's too yeah you notice
5:15 a lot of these shots are from inside my
5:16 van cuz the AC is on you're from Florida
5:19 and you admit that it's hot yes I've
5:21 learned how to put up with it but today
5:23 is a nogo it's unbelievably humid here
5:25 in Florida I keep stating that in every
5:27 video and I will keep reiterating it
5:29 until cools down which is like what
5:31 probably like January 1st January 1st
5:33 it'll cool down 2° I'll be gone and I'll
5:35 be gone by then I found this photo of
5:37 two of the original homes when they were
5:39 built here in town check them out back
5:41 then and there they are right now and
5:45 look at those top windows up there those
5:46 two top Windows protruding from the
5:49 basically the middle of the porch area
5:51 up top that's where there's two guys are
5:55 just chilling up there after working all
5:57 day on those two homes it's pretty crazy
6:00 they look the same but you can
6:02 definitely see the age has set up this
6:05 building right here is the old fire
6:07 department and you can see where the
6:09 fire department used to be they painted
6:11 this mural signifying a little bit of
6:13 the past but there's something very
6:15 interesting about this mural
6:26 man I hly I filming now yeah so I got
6:26 interrupted but basically what I was
6:28 trying to say is where the mirror is
6:30 over
6:31 there you can you can feel where the
6:33 door you can feel the wood transferring
6:35 into the concrete and the owner of the
6:37 building came out and was not happy that
6:39 I was knocking he was not happy right no
6:42 he was not happy which I guess is kind
6:43 of understandable in a way it's kind of
6:46 understandable but well the funny thing
6:48 is he asked you to explain what you were
6:49 doing and then while you were trying to
6:51 explain he cut you off he wouldn't he
6:52 wouldn't listen to my explanation which
6:54 is fine I was knocking on the wall but
6:56 still but usually When someone knocks
6:58 you say can I help you and and they
6:59 explain it but he just kept saying don't
7:01 knock on my wall don't knock on my wall
7:04 and then I asked him and then he asked
7:05 me very very very confusing anyway
7:10 moving on right about the time the town
7:12 started there was a massive fire
7:13 destroying a lot of the buildings and
7:15 right after the fire in
7:17 1917 this building was built that's what
7:19 it looks like now this is what it looks
7:23 like then it was a place called
7:25 Zimmerman's all the windows match up
7:27 still looks the same gosh that was a 100
7:29 years
7:31 ago well 99 years but who's count and
7:34 check this out this building looks
7:36 pretty much the same except they have
7:38 put a different facade over it but the
7:40 angle of the building is pretty much
7:42 identical and some of the buildings
7:43 downtown have date stamps on it like
7:45 this one minson's Hardware 1914 that's
7:48 what it looked like then and it still
7:51 pretty much looks exactly the same even
7:52 the doors and windows are in the same
7:54 spot and this bank right here is rumored
7:57 to have been robbed by John Dillinger I
8:00 don't think it's true but that's the
8:02 rumor one of the main focal points of
8:03 downtown is this hotel pictured in this
8:06 photo which is where a lot of people
8:08 were living when their homes were being
8:10 built originally and you can see it
8:12 looks almost identical as it did back
8:15 then of course some of the awnings
8:16 aren't there they used to have balconies
8:18 going outside of each of the rooms but
8:21 other than that looks pretty much the
8:22 same right around the area that the new
8:24 city hall is now right in here was a
8:27 train track that ran from that way all
8:30 the way through town and they have
8:32 immortalized it with this mural and you
8:34 can see where it says St Cloud depot and
8:37 right on the side of this building is
8:39 the old train station right here so just
8:41 imagine people here waiting for their
8:44 train to arrive this building's still
8:46 used for events and whatnot but I would
8:48 say the majority of town folk now have
8:51 no idea what that used to be the inside
8:53 of the hotel has kind of been kept to
8:56 the era you can see where the old
8:58 check-in desk was people got their mail
9:00 and supposedly the third floor of this
9:02 hotel truly is haunted there's been a
9:05 few ghost hunting shows who have gone to
9:07 the third floor and snooped around I
9:10 think once something gets more than 100
9:11 years old it automatically becomes
9:13 haunted that's it that's pretty much the
9:14 rule once it hits 100 years old the
9:16 ghosts the ghosts come out to play if
9:18 you're 97 years old you're not allowed
9:21 to be haunted yet no you're knocking on
9:23 the door but they haven't let you in yet
9:24 don't talk about knocking there's no
9:26 knocking you can't no knocking some guys
9:28 got to come out and yell us and they
9:30 have a mural here the Saint Cloud fire
9:33 of
9:33 1917 and a lot of the Town burned not
9:36 all of it but a few buildings burned
9:38 just after midnight on July 28th 1917 a
9:42 suspicious fire started in a store room
9:45 and they have put a mural up right here
9:48 on the side of the wall from an old
9:50 photo of what the fire looked like after
9:53 to burned down a lot of the storefront
9:55 do it man do
9:56 it I want to see see the Wheeling yeah
9:59 look at
10:00 this that's awesome this Bandshell and
10:04 park this property used to be a cow
10:07 pasture downtown is right over there so
10:10 basically past 13th Street a block or
10:12 two is the whole downtown area and this
10:14 was the very end of town this was a huge
10:17 cow pasture until years later when they
10:20 built this and this whole property never
10:22 ever gets used in fact it's weird that
10:25 this is even here because I haven't seen
10:27 it used in probably a decade going to
10:29 have a little dinner now starting with a
10:31 salad and bread at chimentos and looks
10:34 like Micah does not like you don't like
10:36 black olives right like do you like
10:38 spaghetti and meatballs yes that's good
10:40 because that's what has been ordered for
10:42 you the main course has arrived you're
10:45 still you're still Chow Down on the old
10:47 salad but look at this man those are
10:49 some uh those are some boisterous
10:51 meatballs is that a good way to describe
10:53 meatballs boisterous boisterous
10:55 meatballs and in typical Central Florida
10:58 fashion it is now raining and lightning
11:02 and
11:07 thundering the storm you could even say
11:07 it's raining cats and dogs out here
11:10 although I haven't seen any any animals
11:12 falling from the heavens but yeah you
11:15 get the idea look at this Splash over
11:17 here look at
11:19 this this is what we're dealing
11:22 with this is Florida folks nothing out
11:26 of the ordinary we're not in California
11:27 right now this is Florida look at that
11:31 look at that water if we were probably
11:33 any other state people would be like
11:34 losing their minds going out to the
11:35 grocery store buying all the canned
11:37 foods yeah here in Florida people are
11:39 just like oh it's a little it's a little
11:41 Mist a little Mist out there yeah this
11:42 is every day check out the water coming
11:44 out of that drain over there it kind of
11:47 looks like a monster it's like a monster
11:50 like vomiting up some sort of like evil
11:54 H2O see it over there coming around the
11:57 corner it's like a snake Reg
11:59 regurgitating liquid hydration for the
12:02 masses here in
12:04 Florida all right first the
12:08 Heat and now the
12:11 torrential
12:13 rain
12:15 hashtag Florida you so
