0:14 where a new restaurant has reared its

0:21 celebrating the 50th anniversary of wdw
0:24 which opened in 1971. i'm gonna go get a
0:27 meal i'm inviting you to join me and i'm
0:29 also going to peruse around the
0:31 contemporary resort and just see some of
0:32 the changes that have happened
0:34 in the last you know recent months
0:37 a little nostalgia has started to pop
0:39 back into there which is nice everybody
0:40 gonna join me
0:41 shall you and the new lobby down here
0:44 has a very merry blair theme also
0:47 katie's the one that made the
0:48 reservation what time is the reservation
0:50 120. see i forgot all about this you
0:52 said do you want to tag along for our
0:55 rezzy and i said

1:01 oh look at this a five-legged goat
1:04 that is cool and it's on my ears too
1:06 that is oh you have the you have the

1:12 one on this one i got the contemporary i
1:14 like that a lot this is a contemporary
1:16 day contemporary day
1:18 no more wave of flavors it's now
1:20 steakhouse 71 1971.
1:24 to you and i'm
1:31 we lost steakhouse 55 at disneyland it's
1:31 now over on the east coast yeah and it
1:33 jumped up 16 years
1:35 exactly it fermented a little
1:38 i really like the vibe through here look
1:41 at the art where the chairs are nice and
1:42 the artwork up here pretty fantastic as
1:44 well i'm not really sure what this is
1:46 supposed to be i mean most art is up for
1:47 interpretation but yeah
1:49 interesting and it's really nice that
1:51 mary blair her artwork is really
1:53 starting to be prominently displayed
1:56 more than just the mural what's up on
1:57 the top and walk up there a little bit
1:59 later and also show mary blair's
2:01 signature that's up on the wall i don't
2:03 want to forget about that see this is
2:04 not the five legged goat this is only
2:06 four legs on this coat the artwork
2:09 behind the counters here are pretty
2:10 awesome too i kind of really want this
2:13 in one of my one of my establishments i
2:16 would love to have this above i don't
2:17 have a fireplace but if i did
2:20 this right here is amazing
2:22 the monorail look there's even some
2:24 guests in the model they won't let you
2:25 ride in the front of the monorail
2:26 anymore that is a throwback i
2:29 love that photo oh dang look at this one
2:31 too that's the inside of the upper lobby
2:33 right there back in the day with the
2:35 monorail going by that's pretty awesome
2:36 too take a look at that with the window
2:38 out to the outside and everything i am
2:40 just loving all this retro artwork
2:42 that's here along the walls at the
2:44 check-in desk for the contemporary yeah
2:47 it's like that is that the people mover
2:48 that's some sort of people mover artwork
2:50 and here's a photograph of mary herself
2:52 doing like maybe the dedication before
2:54 they put it up on the side of the wall
2:56 see how it's kind of laying downward
2:57 there she's behind almost looks like
2:59 she's behind a podium but she's actually
3:00 behind a piece of the artwork
3:02 that's up in the in the main lobby area
3:05 and it's all here underneath the well
3:07 above the seating area here you got all
3:08 the artwork above these retro seats as
3:10 well as another monorail going by here
3:12 above these seats and these couches
3:14 these pillows are something else look at
3:15 this they almost look like a little
3:17 transportation vehicles themselves i
3:19 don't know exactly what they are but are
3:20 very very stylish pillows here along the
3:24 this are these leather or is that
3:26 like i said these are i think it might
3:28 be it might be lovely it's pretty nice
3:30 yeah it's pretty dang nice i love the
3:31 monorail there and above the monorail
3:33 you got a little little fire alarm i
3:35 have to ask how difficult was getting
3:36 the reservation it's pretty popular
3:38 right it was it was actually difficult
3:40 but i did it and you know it was it was
3:42 tough i had to do it early in the wee
3:45 hours of the morning the wee hours of
3:46 the morning that's the secret i dropped
3:49 the ball on it and you just said you can
3:51 just tag along with us i grabbed the
3:52 ball picked it up and ran with it
3:55 did somebody say something about the wii
3:56 parts of the morning
3:58 top
4:09 this is also incredible this photograph
4:09 kind of blown up here which has the
4:12 the view from the bay lake side going
4:14 out you get the monorail beams not even
4:16 placed through the middle of that yet
4:18 that is that is awesome

4:25 there's a lot of glare but
4:27 you get the idea
4:28 just got the alert that the table is
4:30 ready to be seated there are a few other
4:32 people also got the same notification
4:34 about to head in through this little
4:36 corridor right here steakhouse 71 okay

4:42 the florida project get a little walt
4:45 recognition through here which is pretty
4:47 dang cool look at the monorail beam
4:48 right here
4:50 that is that is that oh there's roy
4:52 right here check it out a little homage
4:55 to roy in photographic form now roy came
4:57 out of retirement to finish his
4:59 brother's park because walt never got to
5:01 see the completion
5:03 of wdw he passed before
5:05 look at that there's roy right there
5:07 three caballeros up top here i know it's
5:10 no secret i love
5:11 the monorail oh wow look look over here
5:14 look over here autopia well raceway and
5:17 the sky buckets
5:19 and main street usa some of these
5:21 photographs i've never seen and here's
5:23 the opening day speech
5:25 from roy right there with nikki the
5:27 famous story of mickey roy was so
5:29 emotional
5:30 that he had a hard time walking out to
5:32 do the speech at the podium so mickey
5:35 grabbed roy's hand and walked out to the
5:38 podium
5:39 to like give him a little a little
5:40 motivation because he was having a hard
5:43 time because his brother was not there
5:45 and here's the
5:46 the famous photograph here which i
5:48 believe was in life magazine one of
5:50 those magazines there of the opening day
5:53 october 1st
5:54 1971. you want to do the you want to do

6:04 does it get it doesn't get any better

6:08 raceway basically autopia east down
6:11 there you got the guests going on there
6:13 you got the sky buckets and you got
6:15 space mountain oh i think the table's
6:17 ready i'm getting i'm getting just
6:19 distracted with how awesome all this
6:20 whole area is this is incredible now i
6:23 should also mention this is going to be
6:24 the lunch menu there's also a dinner and
6:26 a breakfast menu
6:28 katie is telling me this is the lunch
6:30 menu so i will not be showing breakfast
6:32 and i will not be showing dinner i will
6:33 be showing the lunch or at least what
6:35 i'm going to order and then we're coming
6:36 back for dinner not tonight another time
6:39 that's way later no spoilers
6:41 now they do not bring a technical paper
6:43 menu they they have you go on the app
6:46 itself and you can kind of scroll
6:49 through so these are some of the options

6:54 stacked burger turkey club a fish
6:57 sandwich a gourmet grilled cheese i
7:00 could just could go on there's steak
7:02 what is that f-r-i-t-e-s and quotes
7:05 free steak and fruit
7:07 steak freaks so i'm hearing the
7:09 hamburger the cheeseburger that it's the
7:12 best burger the best the best burger
7:14 cheeseburger yup what's it called what's
7:16 what's gonna they also have salisbury
7:18 steak what they have salisbury steak on
7:21 here
7:22 the best that's a that's a big it's a
7:24 tall order big thing but i've heard a
7:26 lot of rivers okay so where is it going
7:27 to be on here we got fish
7:29 okay the stack burger right there yeah
7:31 there it is steakhouse 71 stack burger
7:34 20. that's not a bad deal for everyone i
7:37 get it i'm gonna do it french onion soup
7:39 i'm always down for as well
7:41 we're gonna get a lot of food eaten
7:43 today between the three of us we could
7:44 get a lot of options to show we should
7:46 all get something different
7:48 or i'll get the burger
7:49 or all the burger
7:51 spencer's like i don't care that you're
7:52 filming i'm looking at the menu i'm i
7:54 have an appetite that i need to suppress
7:57 eating anything we're hungry let's also
8:00 decide on some appetizers got the french
8:02 onion soup that you were mentioning
8:03 there's also some baby iceberg wedge
8:05 salad
8:06 a fork and knife caesar salad some onion
8:09 rings a shrimp cocktail a salt dusted
8:12 potato brioche brioche
8:15 bacon and eggs
8:17 and some lump crab cakes
8:20 plenty of options yeah of course yeah
8:22 the coke was that's a cook spine perfect
8:25 thank you
8:27 and to water also thank you so much
8:30 yes straws will be good perfect
8:32 an array of straws
8:35 i think i'm gonna get the fish sandwich
8:36 and a shrimp cocktail and these
8:38 beverages oh that's amazing oh it's a
8:41 what oh it's a 71 on there and it's
8:43 served on a like a paddle so if you if
8:46 you send any disrespect to the chef it
8:48 might take you out behind the barn
8:50 you utilize remember the older days is
8:53 dehydrated vegetables that at the end of
8:56 the night they roast they grind and in
8:59 the morning it is freshly stenciled onto
9:01 our butter that's amazing linda you are
9:03 a wealth of information thank you so
9:05 much i appreciate that but it is just
9:07 meant to be pulled apart we have some
9:09 plates here for you so this is potato
9:12 brioche
9:13 with uh there was some more garlic and i
9:15 don't know if it's in the bread or like
9:16 the butter that's a bun
9:22 tear that apart with our hands so
9:22 should i just go into that one or should
9:24 i whatever you want to do
9:25 just going to check a little we can
9:27 always i'm just going to kind of pull
9:28 this apart like that
9:30 and get the
9:32 i was hoping for some steam but there's
9:33 no well there's a little bit of steam
9:35 there a little bit all right i'll just
9:37 have this just a little piece right here
9:38 a little tomato jam here just sprinkle a
9:42 little it just fell over there's not a
9:44 lot of the 71 left although as far as
9:46 the number goes but i'll kind of like
9:48 polish off that little top there that is
9:50 really good
9:52 it's good with the tomato and the
9:56 71 sauce i don't even know what the 71
9:58 sauce
9:59 is butter it's butter
10:11 and spencer has ordered and been
10:11 delivered some sort of a lit up drink
10:13 that's your right spence yes it is it is
10:15 i will look it up for you really and
10:17 katie is displaying it almost like in
10:19 perfect vanna white fashion adam that is
10:22 the magical beacon cocktail the magical
10:25 beacon the beacon of light
10:27 it's almost like the beacon of lights at
10:29 all the parks correct that's why i got

10:31 cool the blue top oh it's alcoholic
10:33 beverage yeah it's got gin blue curacao
10:35 which gives it that blue color uh minute
10:37 made premium lemonade uh organ which is
10:39 almond lemon hibiscus grenadine and a
10:41 souvenir glow cube as you see glowing
10:43 right there everything out of there i'd
10:44 probably drink the lemonade i was going
10:46 to say just the lemonade that's about it
10:47 for me i would like to get the glow cube
10:49 down
10:50 please for the cube
10:52 doing it for the cube
10:53 how is it take a sip

10:58 it's refreshing is something roy would
11:00 approve of i believe so
11:02 do you think roy ever had a beverage
11:04 with a glow cube in it he doesn't strike
11:06 me as a glow cube kind of guy i think
11:08 you're right about that but mary blair
11:09 on the other side that's true oh yes my
11:11 appetizer shrimp cocktail has arrived i
11:14 thought it was on a mound of mashed
11:16 potatoes but no it's not mashed potato
11:18 it's on a mound of other shrimp
11:21 it's like a stack of shrimp like a
11:22 volcano
11:24 style shrimp
11:25 and your appetizer has also arrived i'm
11:28 surprised i did not get the french onion
11:29 because that is like my go-to i know i
11:31 don't i was i wanted to mix it up so we
11:33 could show a bunch of different stuff
11:35 that's true that was a plan and that
11:36 paddle still waiting over there for
11:38 someone to utilize with rosemary sprigs
11:41 for an accent
11:46 this looks really good also the bread
11:46 was twelve dollars i thought it was
11:48 complimentary because he said no it was
11:50 eighteen dollars i was in shock
11:52 and then she re-looked it up and it was
11:54 twelve dollars but you know what
11:56 i kind of want to order a second bag
11:59 it was really dang good yeah but i got
12:01 shrimp here
12:02 this is kind of a fancy place so i eat
12:04 with my fingers
12:05 i think you can
12:07 it's
12:08 shrimp shrimp shrimp trend trend
12:12 did you want to look at this mixture you
12:14 want to want to look at the revolving
12:16 sushi bowl i'm not sushi but the
12:18 revolving shrimp bowl i like how they
12:20 just kind of like decorate it with a
12:21 little green and the little shrimp sauce
12:24 down there that presentation is unreal
12:26 stare into it long enough you will be
12:27 hypnotized by the sea
12:30 and ursula will come down and take your
12:32 voice
12:33 yes
12:34 look at this
12:36 yeah you want
12:39 you know what we didn't know what to
12:40 decide on the appetizer we all got
12:42 something different because life's full
12:44 of tough choices
12:46 that is a cheese bowl and a half
12:49 that it is all right
12:51 like chili lillian like french onion
12:53 soup yeah they she like the finer things
12:55 and won't like more of the simple things
12:59 there's the onion rings right there
13:01 oh they smell amazing
13:04 that sauce looks great now you're saying
13:07 these are a vegan option but there's no
13:08 meat in onions so would it be this is
13:11 cooked in like a uh
13:13 when it's cooked in a vegetable oil not
13:15 a meat oil yeah okay
13:18 so i don't think is um
13:21 you're going out dairy based
13:23 okay so that's maybe it's the sauce
13:25 that could be or they cook it on a
13:26 different cooking mechanic how are you
13:28 going in i wanna
13:30 oh i can hear the crunch all the way
13:32 from over here the thing about a good
13:33 onion ring
13:34 is that
13:36 when you get a bite it doesn't pull the
13:37 onion out yeah you get the bite and you
13:40 get just that bite that's my judgment
13:42 for onion rings
13:43 i need one i'm gonna have one of these
13:45 onion ring time oh yeah crunch
13:55 now they do make all the food fresh so
13:55 it takes a little while you got to be
13:56 patient but trust me the appetizer was
13:58 worth it and i'm sure the entree will be
14:00 as well so i'm just kind of taking this
14:02 time to
14:03 walk around a little bit more and see
14:04 some of the artwork that is through here
14:07 oh there's another monorail over here as
14:09 well yeah i love all the monorails and
14:11 all the retro goodness oh yes now this
14:13 looks amazing here this is that is a
14:16 good sized tomato with the lettuce the
14:18 fish sandwich it looks like a almost
14:20 like kind of like a little bit harder
14:22 bread than normal what would you call
14:24 almost like a bagel roll almost almost
14:26 like a bagel roll kind of interesting oh
14:28 yours is also kind of like the bagel
14:30 style burger with the burger and you got
14:33 on the side you got all the the little
14:34 wedge the additional
14:36 stuff that you could put on top where
14:38 mine automatically comes on the fish
14:40 sandwich yeah well this is a wedge salad
14:42 oh a wedge that's a salad yeah it's a
14:44 little wedge so if you want to put it on
14:45 there you can or you can eat it like a
14:47 salad yeah you can do that okay
14:49 interesting i also went with the pasta
14:50 salad i do love pasta salad soccer and
14:52 there's some sort of like secret sauce
14:54 down on the bottom of that too like
14:55 almost looks like i don't know i don't
14:57 know exactly what kind of secret sauce
14:58 that is but there's definitely some sort
15:00 of sauce on the bottom of that bun
15:02 as well okay this is my entree i ordered
15:05 the appetizer and an entree and from
15:06 what i heard this this is highly
15:08 regarded this burger yeah i decided not
15:11 to get it because you and spence both
15:12 got the burger and i just wanted to get
15:14 something a little bit different but if
15:16 you guys have high praise of it
15:18 i might come back and get the burger out
15:21 of later later almost like a smash
15:22 burger yeah and they said that the chef
15:24 actually created it yeah especially and
15:27 they said it was so good that they added
15:29 it to the venue it looks pretty there's
15:30 a lot of cheese on there too i know
15:32 spence loves cheese so he's probably
15:34 that is a lot of a fish sandwich right
15:37 there oh there's even like pickles on
15:38 there oh and there's secret sauce on the
15:41 and the bottom as well
15:43 did you want to show any of this before
15:45 i started oh yeah to just
15:47 indulge into it
15:51 fish sandwich and a fish
15:54 look at this though there's that's
15:56 that's a lot of fish that looks like a
15:58 good piece of cod i'm going full fish
16:00 today shrimp first and then the cod
16:03 special
16:04 seafood seafood specialty okay it's not
16:07 a bagel bun it's actually a lot softer
16:08 than i thought yeah going in
16:10 it's good
16:12 wow oh look at that fish though
16:15 that is good is it
16:18 much better than the mcdonald's filet
16:19 fish i usually will continue so it has a
16:22 little piece of pork belly some pickles
16:24 onions cheese and a sauce on it and
16:26 before i go into my pasta salad
16:28 katie said that that was the best burger
16:31 she's ever taken
16:33 that's a very tall order i've eaten a
16:35 lot of burgers in my diet see i have it
16:37 so i would like to see your
16:40 you know my favorites on it but i will
16:42 say
16:43 everybody that kept telling me like oh
16:45 this burger's so good it fits the bill
16:47 so not only is it best life and beyond
16:49 but it's also best burger in your mouth
16:52 now i do realize we're pretty much
16:53 filming the exact same thing i'm just
16:55 going to give a teaser if you want to
16:56 see spencer's reaction got to go to
16:58 their video all right at a different
17:00 angle that's right what i'll do is i
17:01 won't show you consuming it but i'll
17:03 watch you concerned

17:43 layers yeah that is a very tall piece of

17:51 is that a raspberry up on top there or a
17:51 straw it's a raspberry two raspberries
17:54 double the raspberries that is a good oh
17:56 you're throwing the little well thank
17:57 you very much that's a good looking
17:58 piece of cake right there that is some
18:00 good 15 layer cake
18:04 very chocolatey that is so good thank
18:07 you it is now tipped over we're
18:08 devouring this thing on its side
18:11 this is something this is a sight not
18:13 only to behold but to also to consume
18:17 i am pleasantly happy
18:19 with this little snap the ganache love
18:31 i'm getting a little bit of a sugar
18:31 sugar buzz going on right now there's a
18:33 lot of space mountain paintings in here
18:36 look at that over there there's the cars
18:37 from raceway tomorrowland this place is
18:40 great little lounges over to the side
18:42 and look at the little chandeliers up
18:44 there reminds me of like something like
18:45 a superman superman that's why you came
18:47 to earth all right i gotta say i am
18:49 pleasantly
18:50 content and happy
18:52 with steakhouse
18:54 71 i love all the nods to walt and roy
18:58 lillian and the history
19:09 also i will reiterate myself well done
19:09 on this little walkway in with all these
19:11 photographs i highly approve
19:14 of these photographs and just like walt
19:16 at disneyland there's roy here at
19:19 florida's magic kingdom there's roy
19:21 walt's brother right down there and
19:22 mickey goofy and pluto also stepping
19:25 into this room which has
19:27 quite a bit of history in here you guys
19:29 happen to know what room this is is this
19:31 the crooks is this the nixon room this
19:34 is the nixon no
19:35 room so nixon was standing at a podium
19:38 right here where this water cooler is
19:40 wow so nixon was well the podium was
19:44 nixon walks through this door that you
19:45 just walked through
19:47 goes over here stands behind the podium
19:49 all the media was here
19:51 and he delivers the i am not a crook
19:53 speech right in this very room
19:55 inside the contemporary so right about
19:58 right about there

20:07 isn't that crazy to think about
20:07 right inside of here
20:10 also talking to another guest who was
20:12 enjoying food at the restaurant 70 with
20:14 steakhouse 71 and this he said for lunch
20:16 they do not serve steak but he asked if
20:18 they could prepare one for off the
20:20 dinner menu and they said yeah so they
20:22 they will make a steak at least they did
20:24 for for that gentleman as he told me i'm
20:26 going up to the upper level right up to
20:28 here to the the main level of the
20:30 contemporary
20:32 as well oh perfect timing there's a
20:35 monorail going look at that
20:37 perfect
20:38 perfect timing 50th monorail going by
20:53 and there is that mary blair mural
20:53 i was referring to earlier
20:56 in the day
20:58 magnificent really is a magnificent
21:01 piece of art here you can just see how
21:03 incredibly tall
21:05 this thing is 15 stories
21:08 just like the cake i just had 15 stories
21:10 is the
21:11 height of the levels and if you walk
21:13 over to this area
21:15 by the way you can hear some
21:16 construction going on
21:18 they're working on some of the rooms
21:20 on the theme park side but if you go
21:22 over to this area you will see mary
21:25 blair's signature
21:27 right on the top little block
21:30 right up there there's some more non
21:32 five legged ghosts those are four legged
21:34 ghosts the five legged ghosts
21:36 on the other side of this i don't know
21:38 if i can get to them because they're
21:39 doing all the construction you see the
21:40 construction workers
21:42 up there but yeah mary's
21:45 mary's little blocks up at the top there
21:47 with her name on it as shown here

21:54 that is so dang cool

22:02 to this hotel also celebrating 50 years
22:06 just like walt disney world and
22:08 florida's magic kingdom
22:17 and i'd say this is probably a good
22:17 place as any to
22:18 go ahead and end this episode

22:27 that establishment just recently opened
22:30 very happy and content with the food
22:32 and the nostalgic throwbacks honoring
22:35 walt and roy in the history
22:38 of wdw
22:40 i recommend it go check it out
