0:00 welcome everyone Adam mcderoo here as a
0:03 recording of the Sunday August 6 2023
0:07 again since I am in the area where the
0:10 Tim Hortons has coffee got a piping hot
0:13 caffeinated beverage and check out what
0:15 is behind me a rather large
0:18 fire hey mister
0:21 only you have them
0:28 what it's caught on tape you left me up
0:28 in Warren Michigan but I figured I knew
0:30 to come down here so you keep running
0:33 away
0:34 is lick yeah
0:39 up to mine
0:39 I lost my top in San Francisco so you
0:42 were saying that this at one point had
0:45 something to do with a ferris wheel yeah
0:47 was that a world fair and it was a it
0:49 wasn't Ferris wheel that was brought
0:50 here it was right on I-94 this kind of
0:53 signifies if you're especially if you're
0:55 Canadian across the border from Detroit
0:57 from uh Windsor into Detroit yeah you
0:59 can go right down to I-75 that's how
1:01 what the hell you do in Canada you go to
1:03 Florida every you know for two weeks and
1:05 this is like a beacon this is like a
1:06 landmark you cut across a little bit
1:08 okay right there I-94 then back to I-35
1:11 so this for me as a kid when I saw this
1:13 I was like I'm in the states and they
1:15 have time I love it welcome
1:17 to America thank you I'm inviting you to
1:20 join me Scott on tape
1:23 value so right a couple miles from here
1:26 is the Henry Ford Museum we're gonna
1:28 check out a place that I've wanted to go
1:30 for many many years
1:34 we're gonna go over there there's a few
1:34 key items I want to show in there and
1:36 then there's some things I don't even
1:37 know what's going to be in there but I
1:39 cannot take my eyes off this Uniroyal
1:42 do you think
1:43 Uniroyal with the Uniroyal I say uni you
1:46 say unicorn
1:48 you say unicycle
1:51 that's one right that's one wheel and
1:53 that's one wheel that's a uni that's a
1:55 unicycle though you say unicycle I say
1:57 uni oh there's a train that's a trade
2:12 Scott said we're in Dearborn now newborn
2:12 Michigan not Detroit we're on the
2:13 outskirts the Greater Detroit area but
2:16 technically Dearborn
2:18 it's also starting to rain now there are
2:20 a few things I am looking forward to
2:22 seeing one of them is the Charles kuralt
2:24 on the road RV there's also the Rosa
2:27 Parks bus there's also the chair the
2:30 Lincoln chair
2:33 the blast moments of Lincoln and then
2:36 there is also the JFK limo from Dealey
2:39 Plaza those are the four things but
2:41 there's other stuff I'm sure is gonna
2:42 I'm gonna love to the Henry Ford
2:46 I gotta be out of time kind of going
2:47 into the spoiler free I don't know what
2:49 to expect other than the four key things
2:51 that I really wanted to see with my own
2:53 eyes all right heading in cost was 35
2:56 just for the museum are there other
2:58 items on property but just doing just
3:01 the museum and the things I feel like
3:03 the museum is going to be expansive
3:04 enough
3:05 check out this pile it's like the Wright
3:07 Brothers playing a recreation of the set
3:09 same era here in the lobby all right
3:11 this is pretty awesome you can smell the
3:13 moldorama you can also see the machine
3:16 so you can get either Henry Ford or you
3:19 can get the one with the car itself yeah
3:23 a little older on the machine it's good
3:25 to see some working molduramas five
3:27 dollars you can get a little souvenir
3:29 all right here's a bunch of them one two
3:31 three four five six seven eight nine
3:33 there's like 10 of them almost a dozen
3:35 Boulder ramas you can get Abraham
3:37 Lincoln's Noggin right there
3:39 oh even the Wienermobile
3:42 Henry Ford Model T you can even get the
3:45 JFK car locomotive
3:53 have made it in
3:53 first thing I'm seeing is a plane
3:56 off in the distance way down there also
3:59 Thomas Edison's signature is right here
4:02 in concrete take a look at that
4:14 Thomas Edison
4:14 sign the concrete right there Northwest
4:17 Airlines the Douglas DC3
4:24 all right just my first impression
4:25 walking in here this place is awesome
4:27 all right this is selections from
4:29 Michael Graves not the Misfits Michael
4:31 Graves the designer and architect
4:32 Michael Graves all these items here
4:36 were items that he constructed fun fact
4:39 the celebration post office was built by
4:42 Michael Graves
4:46 today's artifacts uh
4:49 so I live in a town that features the
4:52 work
4:53 of Michael Graves not from the Misfits
4:56 the theory of probabilities showing all
5:00 the little brown sphere there going down
5:03 the theory of probabilities
5:07 there's no thing more than Good Sense
5:10 confirmed by calculation
5:19 oh I keep expecting a witch
5:19 to be here prickling the finger on that
5:24 an old Spinning Wheel this place is
5:28 massive all the different areas of
5:31 kitchen kind of reminds me of Carousel
5:33 of Progress in a way
5:41 some antique farm equipment over here
5:41 this caterpillar
5:44 John Deere of course
5:47 FMC Corporation
5:50 look at this
5:58 serious classic car alert
5:58 there it is the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile
6:02 yellow and
6:06 wieners
6:13 look at that tag I love it
6:13 I want to drive that around look it's
6:14 like a hot dog on top of the car itself
6:18 this is a 1952
6:20 Wienermobile in 1936 the Oscar Meyer
6:24 company began to promote their hot dogs
6:25 on the streets of Chicago the only 52
6:28 model in his original design is right
6:30 here
6:34 now this definitely has some Disneyland
6:37 type Vibes even though it is not Disney
6:39 correlation it is from the 1964.
6:44 Fair kind of has that small world type
6:48 Vibes and they have a mirror down there
6:50 that lets you see underneath the inside
6:54 of it but you know definitely
6:56 definitely has that early Disney type of
7:00 Vibes and the 64 correlation even though
7:02 this was an IBM Pavilion kiosk into a
7:06 lot of old furniture area here this is a
7:09 this is a television right in the middle
7:11 of the screen is a predicta television
7:14 receiver
7:16 1958 to 1960 right down there with the
7:20 radio at the bottom of it looks like
7:22 something from the future like something
7:24 like the Jetsons would have in the
7:25 future but really it was in the 1950s
7:28 and there's a sewing machine and this
7:30 table right down this card table
7:31 belonged to John Hancock and right here
7:35 this chest of drawers or Chester drawers
7:38 depending on how you refer to it belong
7:40 to George Washington's mother
7:42 all says so right here High chest of
7:45 drawers owned by Mary Ball Washington
7:48 Samuel Clemens also known as Mark Twain
7:51 wrote at this very desk right below the
7:54 portrait of himself right there that is
7:57 incredible to think about and Edgar
7:59 Allan Poe right here number six this was
8:02 Edgar Allan Poe's writing portable
8:04 writing desk I mean that's wow really
8:08 that's awesome now I was lucky enough to
8:10 go in Xanadu home of the future in
8:12 Kissimmee Florida before they tore that
8:14 down years ago but this is the tour of
8:19 the dynaxium house the new way of living
8:22 for
8:23 1946. it is a complete circle
8:27 Peak down inside you got the couch over
8:30 there you got the table you got the
8:32 coffee table you got the little
8:35 fireplace just listening to a
8:37 conversation one of the workers was
8:39 having with another guest this is the
8:41 only one of these left in the world and
8:43 back in the day you used to be able to
8:45 go in here but they have since the there
8:47 was something wrong with the floor they
8:49 fixed the floor then the events of 2020
8:51 they have not started letting guests
8:53 back in even a couple years later but
8:56 this is awesome the only one of these
8:57 left in the world and uh the cable's
9:01 coming down would tie into these steel
9:03 rods and the house would be kept under
9:05 tension so that's what dimaxium stands
9:07 for is dynamic maximum tension and it
9:11 actually made it very strong with the
9:13 design of it it could withstand a 125
9:15 mile an hour this year with the black
9:17 drawer pulls and the backsplash on the
9:20 on the counter there that's actually the
9:22 refrigerator that's built into it so
9:25 it's not as big because we shop
9:26 different back then we went to the
9:28 market like every other day instead of
9:30 going grocery shopping for a couple
9:31 weeks at a time other side of that wall
9:33 is another bedroom and what you would do
9:36 is you would push a button and those
9:37 would rotate like a ferris wheel and you
9:40 would hold the button down until the
9:41 drawer you wanted came up and you would
9:44 take yourself out those are drawers over
9:46 there oh yeah and so that way
9:54 but there would be two bathrooms here so
9:54 there'd be a bathroom that
9:55 fiberglass yeah I think it's a pretty
9:57 great idea I could see myself owning
9:59 some land and living in one of those
10:01 just plop it down and there you go full
10:04 360 home a lot of Pop Culture items as
10:06 well check out one of the first video
10:08 game systems atari's pong also the
10:12 Snoopy phone oh and even the Atari 2600
10:15 speaking of video game system there's a
10:17 Pac-Man down there oh Scott they
10:18 recreated your room over here not from
10:21 your youth but your modern day room this
10:23 is where you look like now yeah oh there
10:25 you even have the self portrait right
10:26 there right above my head when I sleep
10:27 yep right there you wake up and you go
10:30 you don't even look in a mirror you just
10:32 look at yourself wow they actually have
10:34 some of the Ataris that were I think
10:35 these are the ones that were like buried
10:37 like with E.T oh yeah it's the ETS that
10:39 they ended up buried and then they
10:40 uncovered years later I've never seen
10:44 one in person as far as I can recall say
10:46 hello to internet in a box yes VCRs used
10:50 to be this size this is the size of a
10:52 truck got a steam engine cylinder here
10:55 look at this big wheel they're just like
10:57 tall it's like 20 foot tall wheel yeah
11:00 this thing is massive and I was
11:02 overheard some people talking that this
11:04 isn't even there's ones that are even a
11:06 lot bigger and smaller than this one
11:09 just like spinning around the Tower of
11:13 Power
11:14 you got all the way up to 19. yeah I'm
11:17 pretty strong I'm an athlete
11:31 oh I got to 19. is that me oh it's
11:34 malfunctioning yeah okay dang and now
11:37 getting into the wintry regions from
11:39 right Whirlwind engines right here for
11:43 Josephine Ford bird Arctic Expedition
11:48 plane if you can see there's not Wheels
11:51 there's like little snow snow skis down
11:54 at the bottom they're trying to like
11:56 read the map over there in the winter
11:57 storm the blizzard oh he's doing some
11:59 kind of stunt flying or something you
12:02 know who's got that look I gotta say
12:03 this might be one of the best museums
12:06 I've ever been in it honestly is one of
12:08 the best
12:09 definitely and definitely top tier when
12:12 it comes to museums and this is in fact
12:14 a recreation of the Wright brothers you
12:16 got one of the rights there and you got
12:17 the other right
12:19 over there all right this is kind of
12:22 neat they show it here this is a still
12:24 from that moment and the recreation here
12:27 in the museum in the Detroit Museum
12:30 right there
12:31 well done very very well done well worth
12:35 the 35 admission this place is massive
12:38 just how many different you could spend
12:41 all day a couple days in here if you
12:44 wanted to read everything oh it looks
12:45 like the Floyd Bennett is going to a
12:47 place I could definitely Embrace a place
12:49 called Coffeeville and away from the
12:52 plain area and getting into some
12:54 automobiles this Henry Ford's kitchen
12:57 sink engine is something Jay Thaddeus
13:00 towed would definitely love tariah
13:04 Mr Toad he loves himself a wild ride
13:08 serious classic car
13:12 alert through here
13:14 overload got the neon up there at the
13:17 Douglas Auto Theater driving America and
13:20 then looking down
13:22 row of classic cars right here from the
13:25 fender
13:27 what happens when you're in the Motor
13:28 City you're going to get lots of
13:30 automobiles
13:31 this is my kind of place got some
13:34 Transportation devices got some more
13:36 strong carriages got some Crosstown
13:38 trolleys over here got a wagon from the
13:42 horse and buggy days
13:45 not just cars dating back to the olden
13:48 does even touching on some fast food you
13:51 got Speedy up there
13:58 pre-ronald McDonald
13:58 or the different mascots that McDonald's
14:00 used to have and then of course eating
14:03 on the go you got the orange crush here
14:06 you got Bob's Big Boy there's those
14:09 there was Frisch's Big Boy Bob's Big Boy
14:11 one of my favorites there's Kips big boy
14:14 there's a ashtray from Kips yeah I love
14:18 the reflection of the neon there please
14:20 do not litter you got the
14:22 non-biodegradable Mickey D's containers
14:25 they don't have those anymore you got
14:27 the Transformer fries Super Size Me
14:32 Right There
14:34 there's a old dining car behind it it's
14:38 56 Chevy Bel Air
14:41 a w root beer there's neon everywhere
14:45 White Castle
14:47 again very very well done
14:51 higher place
14:53 always good lighting when you stand
14:55 under
15:03 I've ever been at
15:04 how many times have you been here before
15:05 it's my second second time and you know
15:07 what's coming up right over there are
15:09 you seeing things that you hadn't seen
15:10 before on the first time I can't
15:12 remember the first it was it's been
15:14 about four years but where we are right
15:16 now is my favorite car company I know
15:18 what you're pointing at it's the JFK
15:20 limo right
15:22 what have you been to Dealey Plaza yeah
15:25 I think that it was back in the real
15:26 time but yesterday we went back into
15:28 location as a presidential car after the
15:30 fact it is wild I know it's a huge I
15:33 wouldn't want to say that no I'm gonna
15:35 go look at it I'm not gonna say that
15:36 again
15:42 okay this is
15:44 unbelievable
15:47 on
15:48 unbelievable to see this in person
15:56 Jackie O in the back crawled across the
15:56 trunk towards the back
16:00 to Dallas I've been to Dealey Plaza
16:01 watches the brooder film a thousand
16:04 times
16:05 and this is the car this is the car
16:12 Jackie O on this side JFK on that side
16:26 so just think about it for a minute so
16:26 you got the driver up there you got the
16:27 Secret Service so you got the door he
16:30 was sitting in the back seat with his
16:32 arm right where the door kind of buckles
16:34 there which would have been right on
16:37 this very side
16:45 right they are sitting in that back seat
16:45 and you got the little where the service
16:48 agents were right there against
16:50 hey I just
16:53 blows my mind
16:57 and as Jackie O crawled back onto the
17:00 truck this is where the other agent is
17:02 right up on there
17:12 unbelievable getting into some old gas
17:12 station areas got the Texaco oh they got
17:16 a cab over here
17:18 there's even a holiday yeah there's like
17:20 a motel section down here too the old
17:22 family vacations
17:29 W bus over here and you got the early
17:29 lodging of like a cabin
17:37 pollution of camping
17:39 in a bus like this a toll booth over
17:42 there 20 cents for a toll
17:44 you got some Campground stuff and even
17:46 like a camper
17:50 full-size trains and miniature trains
17:54 galore
17:55 here I do love trying up and the Oscar
17:58 Meyer Wienermobile going around down
18:00 there
18:01 as well just trains everywhere trains
18:04 wienermobiles trolleys look at this
18:08 trolley's racing the train keeping up
18:10 with it very nicely
18:16 do lots of trains take a look at this
18:16 car
18:18 I've never seen that before right there
18:28 and tucked away over here in the corner
18:28 this is one of the main reasons I wanted
18:30 to come here Charles kuralt the on the
18:33 road series it kind of stepped out of
18:36 the comfort zone of normal News
18:38 broadcasting and started going to small
18:41 towns back roads
18:42 lesser traveled areas
18:46 I almost say I have like super
18:48 inspiration people but definitely Huell
18:51 Houser California gold and Charles
18:53 kuralt on the road definitely people I I
18:57 respect their their form of you know
19:01 showing things that other people weren't
19:03 really doing
19:04 and I thought I model everything I'm
19:06 doing completely after how they're doing
19:08 it but in a lot of ways you know not
19:11 only inspiring but also just just
19:13 something I I admired and as The Story
19:15 Goes basically he went to his bosses and
19:17 said I want to do this kind of like back
19:18 road type series and feature small areas
19:21 small towns and they were like oh you
19:23 could try it for a little while
19:24 and it ended up lasting 27 years this is
19:28 the last of several motorhomes it wasn't
19:30 the only one but it was the last one he
19:32 used before for the series ended it TV
19:35 crew on America's back roads they took
19:37 time to quote meet people listen to
19:39 Yarns and feel the seasons change
19:42 there's Charles right there there he is
19:44 in the front
19:46 with Izzy Blackman driving and Charles
19:48 kuralt navigating back before GPS you
19:51 had to use the the atlas there they are
19:53 working on it themselves right there
19:55 look at this Charles
19:57 being the supervisor looking at the guys
19:59 as they're fixing the motorhome
20:02 it's amazing sister Adam
20:04 I really want to go inside that RV but
20:07 can't go inside the RV
20:09 there's like the sleeping Arrangements
20:11 back here so this was like a it's like
20:13 predated my Large Marge for a while even
20:16 though I really preferred doing the van
20:18 dwelling more than I prefer being in an
20:20 RV but this is pretty cool
20:23 it was pretty dang cool
20:25 just got in hit the road document if you
20:28 ever had a chance to watch any of those
20:30 on the roads too you could find them
20:32 online and on the on YouTube and all
20:34 that definitely worth checking out it's
20:36 pretty genius all right over to the area
20:38 with liberty and justice for all Abraham
20:42 Lincoln and that is the Rosa Parks boss
20:47 they have the Montgomery City Line Rosa
20:50 Parks bus in here
20:57 on there as a tour guide in there
20:57 talking
20:58 walk up either towards the rear or
21:01 towards the proper
21:10 ly
21:32 oh wow this is Abraham Lincoln's chair
21:32 right here this is the chair that he was
21:36 sitting at at Ford's Theater right there
21:40 upholstered seat rocking chair
21:42 was made up until 1865. this is the
21:45 actual chair in which President Lincoln
21:47 met his demise on April 14 1865
21:51 it was originally located in the
21:53 president's special box inside Ford
21:55 Theater and in Washington
22:06 that is something else
22:06 just wrap your head around yeah this
22:08 this place just has so many artifacts
22:11 the JFK car the Lincoln chair
22:16 Rosa Parks bus the on the road RV
22:21 those are the four I wanted to see but I
22:23 am stumbling on so much more
22:26 that I was not expecting to see
22:35 honest day of sitting right here not
22:35 knowing what was going to happen to him
22:37 moments later
22:39 it's just right when you exit off of
22:40 where the the bus is
22:42 right over here
22:44 and this little alcove and if you look
22:46 at some of the stains that are on here
22:48 as well they're just right over the back
22:50 of the back of his his shoulder right
22:54 there he was looking forward
23:03 now in front of John F Kennedy's limo is
23:03 the Reagan car now I've been to the spot
23:05 where he ended up Surviving and the
23:08 Reagan Museum in the valley at
23:10 California a really good Museum they
23:11 have his suit but here is the car that
23:13 the service guys pushed him into
23:42 and in English that's uh
23:42 yeah we are now going to head over to a
23:45 place called holiday Grill Coney Island
23:47 evidently in this area in the Detroit
23:50 area gotta get Coney Island Coney Island
23:52 is like a big thing when I think of
23:54 Coney Island think of the real Coney
23:56 Island but evidently it's like a Detroit
23:58 thing
23:59 to as well
24:00 and each Coney Island has its own name
24:03 what we're going to is holiday Grill
24:06 Coney Island
24:08 we could eat here at the plum Market
24:09 kitchen but we're opting for Saucony
24:11 Island
24:12 I'm totally that's kind of like a win in
24:13 Rome moment take a look at this someone
24:16 is driving this whole Relic to look at
24:19 old relics
24:25 that's awesome
24:25 right here parked amongst all the newer
24:28 cars
24:29 look on the front
24:31 there's a bird it's got a CD player
24:34 there no all right now I kind of
24:35 expected it to be a little more themed
24:38 than like a little uh empty uh Romero
24:41 style Dawn the empty store strip mall
24:44 wow
24:50 holiday Grill Coney Island
24:51 have you ever eaten at a Coney Island
