0:04 don t don don don don our journey
0:04 started in california we ventured into
0:07 Arizona and then New Mexico currently in
0:12 the great state of Texas
0:15 welcome everyone Adam is a whoo here
0:17 date number seven of my route 66
0:20 adventure and if all goes well I will be
0:22 crossing over another state line just a
0:26 little bit join me shall you but before
0:30 departing the town of shamrock want to
0:32 step inside the you drop in last night
0:35 it was illuminated in neon but it was
0:38 not open no longer an operating
0:40 restaurant but they have the diner set
0:42 up just as it was back in the day
0:44 vintage photo of some lovely young
0:48 ladies sitting here in this exact spot
0:49 even the king of rock and roll once ate
0:51 here and perched himself right here in
0:54 this booth classic picture from the
0:56 outside to the inside most of it now
0:58 just a gift shop and over in the corner
1:01 they have relics of the old post office
1:04 but originally located in someone's home
1:06 sometimes even on the front porch of the
1:10 residence around the back was the diner
1:13 but in the front was the gas station and
1:17 inside here you can see just doing a
1:20 little paperwork keeping everything in
1:22 order keeping the business running
1:23 smoothly rumor has it that just down the
1:26 ways a bit at the formally named Sun and
1:29 sands motel Elvis Presley stayed here
1:34 talked to the desk clerk and he said it
1:36 was room 18 that they have changed to
1:40 118 but this is it the king of rock and
1:45 roll slept just behind that window and
1:50 just like that we've made it to the
1:52 state line there's no place like
1:54 tekzilla no other place like this place
1:57 anywhere near this place so this must be
2:01 the place
2:02 that's not be committing any crimes in
2:04 these parts or you'll end up in the old
2:08 jail even the heater down there is
2:11 behind bars
2:12 and documentation of some of the
2:15 criminals that once stayed in here over
2:19 there it looks to be like yeah that's a
2:21 paddy wagon Oh what are you doing no no
2:23 looking right here boy
2:25 slightly misty overcast day appears as
2:29 if we're the only ones on the road
2:32 corner of 3rd Street and Sheb Wooley
2:35 Avenue is the Sandhills curiosity shop
2:39 here in Eric a town of Eric more antique
2:44 road signs than you can shake a stick at
2:47 open for business but after checking
2:58 locked WAMP WAMP WAMP went but will not
2:58 stop me from looking at the glory of
3:00 these beautiful artifacts down this
3:03 alley around the back of the property or
3:05 even more most of them filled with
3:09 bullet holes
3:10 lots of roadside history here too bad
3:12 it's closed guess that means one day
3:14 I'll just have to return if windmills
3:17 are your thing you've come to the right
3:19 place this is windmill garden that's not
3:23 the only thing on the premises behind
3:26 these are some classic cars just rotting
3:30 away back here if these things could
3:33 talk they could tell quite a few stories
3:35 I'm certain many memories were had in
3:39 these old clunkers first glance I would
3:42 say this was a taxi but upon reading the
3:45 lettering nope it was a school bus a
3:49 family truckster Clark I found it think
3:54 of the road trips that were had in this
3:56 bad boy nice if you needed medical
3:59 assistance in the city of Eric or had to
4:02 go to the hospital this was your ride
4:04 mr. toad got a hold of this one he's
4:07 always looking for a wild ride and this
4:09 is the after effect just noticing if you
4:12 turn slightly off of route 66 there's
4:16 another section over here that's a
4:19 dilapidated area theyĆre not allowed to
4:23 currently go down in fact there's a sign
4:25 saying
4:26 road closed now the to merge this
4:29 section has been repaved off to the
4:32 right you can see the freeway the
4:35 interstate runs parallel as well
4:37 mistiness of the air provides the
4:40 perfect ambiance for crossing this old
4:44 school bridge yeah I was the lanes got
4:48 very narrow back there each state has
4:51 their own museum but there's only one
4:53 national route 66 one here in Elk City
5:02 State between the lines
5:02 Florida's is difficult stay between the
5:04 lines riding riding with having Jacob
5:07 drive is a dangerous thing
5:09 hey King there yet we're right there
5:11 we're cruising or cruising cruising
5:14 along
5:15 in a pink Cadillac he's doing a little
5:18 hitchhiking lucky for him there's this
5:22 1928 Ford that's pulled over to give him
5:24 a ride place is pretty neat it documents
5:27 the journey all down the mother wrote
5:30 was a cool looking mannequins cars even
5:36 some of the iconic structures that you
5:38 find along the thoroughfare actor Henry
5:41 Fonda is learning his lines I don't want
5:44 to disturb him too much but he's got his
5:46 script right down there massive vat of
5:50 root beer and could it be hidden Mickey
5:56 told to follow the red brick sidewalk
5:58 follow the red brick sidewalk follow the
6:01 red brick sidewalk directly into this
6:04 hospital where you can cure your
6:06 ailments just lay down here make
6:09 yourself comfortable let's get our
6:14 learning on sometimes you'll see
6:17 McGuffey readers in these old school
6:19 houses right however I'm not seeing any
6:21 mcguffey's excuse me sirs I'm here in
6:25 regards to getting myself a loan
6:28 it is incredibly brisk out here very
6:31 very brisk Alfred Martin the funeral
6:35 director he's waiting for someone to
6:38 freeze to death how does this weather
6:39 make you feel segue for chowtime at this
6:51 former fruit market now a cafe the way
6:56 is set up as you sit on where was the
6:58 outside of Dorsey's that was the front
7:02 of the building and now they've extended
7:04 it so you're basically sitting where it
7:06 used to be outdoors this is what we're
7:09 dealing with I got myself a mushroom
7:12 Swiss burger with delicious melting
7:15 cheese I know I shouldn't be eating but
7:18 I just couldn't pass up a good country
7:20 fried eat after yesterday you're gonna
7:23 consume more more steak now that I have
7:26 a full belly back on the road adventure
7:30 awaits
7:31 once the interstate was built traffic
7:33 dried up we're standing directly in the
7:36 middle of the road and not even
7:38 concerned with it and that is the reason
7:42 for the demise of Lucille's she owned
7:45 and operated this shop put her heart and
7:48 soul and her life into this place
7:51 self-proclaimed mother of the Mother
7:53 Road she resided up on the second floor
7:57 right up there laid to rest here in this
8:01 tiny Cemetery Lucile Hammonds the mother
8:07 of the Mother Road
8:09 born April 13 1915 and passed away
8:12 August 18th 2000 their EU niek
8:17 architecture of this bridge it resembles
8:22 the same steel pattern that usually
8:24 covers the entire bridge but this it's
8:28 only about probably 10 feet high on
8:30 either side it goes on for quite a
8:33 distance probably about a mile these are
8:36 the real deal living breathing Buffalo
