I Miss Living In Southern California - A Day At The Orange Circle / Record Shopping & Antique Stores
Orange Circle April 2025
Transcript
0:05
Welcome everyone. Adam the Woo here as a
0:05
recording of this. It's Saturday, April
0:08
19th, 2025. It's years already speeding
0:13
by at rapid pace. I am walking to the
0:16
Orange Circle, the orange plaza, I think
0:19
it's technically called, but everyone
0:20
calls it the orange circle. A place I
0:23
hold a special place in my a place that
0:26
I hold special into my heart. A I hold a
0:30
special
0:32
place up here. I hold a special place in
0:36
my heart. I don't know why that was so
0:37
confusing to say. Too many places in
0:40
there. Place up there, place in
0:42
here. It's been 10 years since I first
0:46
moved to SoCal. A couple months ago
0:48
would have been the 10y year
0:49
anniversary. believe it was February,
0:52
early early February of 2015 that I
0:56
ended up renting a house here in Orange,
1:00
California, which is just adjacent
1:02
to
1:04
Anaheim, Garden Grove, that whole
1:08
vicinity. And I'm just going to stroll
1:10
along, get some coffee here at
1:13
Starbucks, and go in, if all goes well,
1:17
the rarely open Mr. se's vinyl shop,
1:22
which is only open on weekends from like
1:24
11 to 4, 10 to 4. So, it works out that
1:27
I'm here when they're open and just see
1:30
where the day leads. I might go some
1:31
other places, too. I'm inviting you, yes
1:33
you, to join me. It's been 10
1:35
years since I first moved to SoCal. I
1:38
really miss I really miss living in
1:41
California. I miss Orange County. I miss
1:43
Hollywood.
1:45
Loved living in California. But now I
1:48
live in Celebration. I love it there as
1:51
well. So I'm kind of wishy-washy on
1:53
where I where I where I reside. I'm kind
1:56
of all I kind of bounce all over the
1:58
place. But got a lot of core memories
2:00
here. I'm inviting you to join me. Good
2:02
to have you here. Shall you? I purchased
2:06
a couple bikes from this establishment
2:07
here, Orange Cycle.
2:10
One of the
2:11
bikes went down a slide in a local park
2:14
not far from here, which to to this day
2:18
was a a big
2:25
mistake. One of my niece is still
2:25
thanking me to this day. That was like 9
2:28
years
2:34
ago. Pateboarding, rollerblading,
2:34
bicycling prohibited.
2:42
I want to see some people
2:42
rollerblading. Even though rollerblades
2:44
are not on that list up there, I see
2:45
bicycles. I see skateboards. I
2:48
see roller skates, but I don't see
2:50
rollerblades. They're only listed in in
2:53
word form, not picture form. It is a
2:55
city of Orange Plaza Historic District.
2:58
The Orange Plaza. Again, I rarely hear
3:03
anyone call it the Orange Plaza.
3:05
Everyone calls it the orange circle. It
3:07
was placed on the National Register of
3:08
Historic
3:10
Places in
3:12
1982. Well, established in ' 86. The
3:15
Plaza for many years was a social and
3:17
commercial hub of Orange. The Plaza
3:19
Historic District takes significance in
3:21
81 and placed on the National Register
3:23
in ' 82. And this makes me so freaking
3:25
happy. It's the Orange County parrots.
3:34
They're very unique with their
3:34
squawking. You can hear
3:36
them. And to this day, anytime I hear
3:40
those type of parrots anywhere in the
3:42
world where I'm going, it's mostly in
3:44
the
3:45
US. I will always refer to them as the
3:47
Orange County Parrots. Here it is, the
3:49
old Orange Daily News building, which is
3:52
now the Starbucks. There used to be two
3:54
Starbucks here in the circle, but one of
3:56
them closes over in the bank on the
3:58
exact opposite end of the fountain. But
4:00
this used to be the Daily News building.
4:02
Now they serve coffee. The thing I like
4:03
about inside the inside the coffee shop
4:05
here is they have some photos of the the
4:09
Orange Plaza/circle 1971, but then also
4:12
some older ones from
4:13
1922. I really like the 71s, but I also
4:16
like the 1922 photos. They have a quite
4:18
a few quite a few different ones as
4:20
well. I'm strolling across now. Got my
4:24
piping hot caffeinated beverage. And
4:26
there's no activities in the circle.
4:28
There's no events happening at the
4:29
moment in the circle. But this place is
4:32
still a beehive of activity down here.
4:36
People out here with their pets, their
4:39
animals throwing the ball around. I see
4:41
a dog over there running, play, and
4:43
fetch.
4:49
Just one thing that really drew me into
4:49
my love of SoCal is when I first visited
4:52
here and I drove around the Orange
4:55
Circle. I can still remember it driving
4:56
through this area when I first visited I
4:58
think in 2013 or 14. Didn't move here
5:00
till early 15, but I was one of these
5:04
similar vehicles here as I was driving
5:05
by. And I noticed how many people were
5:08
just here in the circle. There were
5:10
people playing hackysack, throwing the
5:12
Frisbee around, having a picnic, and I
5:15
thought, am I in a movie right now? Is
5:17
there a director saying action for all
5:20
this to transpire? And as weird as it
5:22
sounds, I had never seen anything quite
5:25
like that when there really wasn't a
5:27
planned, organized event where people
5:30
were just
5:31
out in out just doing their thing. I
5:35
don't know. It just it just kind of
5:36
struck me.
5:42
And now that I say it, it it sounds kind
5:42
of insane when I say it that way, but I
5:44
had never really lived anywhere where
5:46
that had happened. I think it might just
5:48
get a little too hot in Florida. Unless
5:50
there is something happening, you don't
5:52
see this many people just chilling
5:54
around a
6:05
fountain. They just repaired the
6:05
fountain recently. Someone drove
6:06
through. Actually, people drive through
6:07
this thing like pretty often. Every
6:09
couple years, the driver will just drive
6:10
through the middle of the fountain. The
6:12
artists out here doing their paintings.
6:14
They are all lined up and they are
6:16
painting the fountain which is right
6:20
over there. Fact, she's like painting
6:23
her dog that's right here. This like her
6:25
dog's just relaxing. That's
6:29
beautiful. Ah, the orange circle. One of
6:32
my favorite places. Always relaxing. The
6:34
problem is I have about 90 favorite
6:36
places. So I'm so indecisive. I have
6:38
just way too many favorite places. Not
6:40
90. I probably have like 10 favorite of
6:43
all-time favorite places. This is one of
6:44
them.
6:45
OJ. So Mr. Se's is right across the way
6:48
there. I'm going to try to find Tragic
6:51
Kingdom by No Doubt. I want to buy that
6:54
album because, you know, Gwen was from
6:56
Orange County and the band was from
6:57
here. In fact, if you look at the if you
6:58
look at the inserts of that, keep this
7:01
the inserts of Tragic Kingdom. There's a
7:03
photo of
7:04
them running along right here, the full
7:07
band. I think Gwyn's pushing the
7:08
shopping cart and the camera's kind of
7:11
up like that and it kind of pans down
7:13
and you see the see the group right here
7:15
and you can see these little like
7:16
drainage areas and you can see this
7:19
little uh these little markings and
7:22
brick here along the ground. Inserts of
7:24
the tragic album. I think I'm going to
7:26
buy it online vinyl if I can find it.
7:27
And just for reference, there it is.
7:29
There's the whole band, No Doubt, on
7:32
their breakout album. Wasn't their first
7:33
album, but it was their breakout album.
7:35
It just, you know, Just a Girl and all
7:38
the other hits that were on there Sunday
7:39
morning, etc. This actually might just
7:42
be an insert on the CD. I'm curious if I
7:44
do find the vinyl if I can if I will
7:46
when I open it up if it'll be on I know
7:48
it's on the CD inserts, but maybe on the
7:50
vinyl. It might not be. Anyway, that's
7:53
that's the photo there. You know, it's
7:55
interesting. I never realized that
7:56
Pokemon Go was still a thing, but
7:58
there's a huge group of people right
8:01
over here next to the Sunlight Church,
8:02
which used an old
8:05
theater playing Pokémon
8:14
Go. Yeah, there's like a whole
8:14
conglomeration of folks down
8:16
there. Used to be a comic book shop
8:18
right here. I'm going to Mr.
8:21
C's. Oh, look at this. Groovy Ghost
8:25
Vintage. Oh, I might have to check out
8:26
Groovy. I might go to Mr. C's first
8:28
because they they're not open very long,
8:30
so I check that out first. I'm going to
8:31
come back to Groovy Ghost
8:34
Vintage. I like it. This is a new This
8:37
shop was not here last time I was here,
8:38
or at least I don't recall it. My
8:39
goodness. I might have to buy this. You
8:41
guys want to go? It's $60, which is a
8:43
lot of money.
8:44
However, is that thing you do which was
8:46
filmed in the orange circle where Tidley
8:48
Winks used to
8:49
be was
8:56
the this the store, not the electronic
8:56
store, but the washing machine store
9:00
that the drummer worked at. It was all
9:03
filmed right here in the orange circle.
9:05
That would be a good one to buy in the
9:06
orange circle. So, I'll try to find No
9:09
Doubt Tragic Kingdom and then I'll
9:11
probably come back and purchase
9:13
this. It's still sealed. That's the
9:15
Play. I like
9:18
that. All right, I'm going to I'll be
9:20
back. I'm going to come back and get
9:21
that. That's too cool. That's too dang
9:23
cool. Appliance store. That's the word I
9:25
was looking for. Appliance store. Oh,
9:26
they painted over a ghost sign. Used to
9:29
be a ghost sign right up there. They
9:31
painted over it. I don't remember what
9:33
it said, but yeah, the appliance was
9:36
right there. or maybe the one next to it
9:38
and it became a toy store called Tidly
9:40
Wings which is still here but they
9:42
they changed locations but that is the
9:45
appliance store. I don't know why I said
9:46
electronic appliance
9:49
store where they first hear the song on
9:51
the radio. It's where they first heard
9:53
the song on the radio and they're all
9:55
excited inside that exact
10:01
spot. That thing you did great movie.
10:01
Great movie. Now stepping in Mr. these
10:03
records. I'm realizing I was talking to
10:05
the associate there was very very kind.
10:06
I was asking him about no doubt and he
10:09
said no no no doubt said basically they
10:11
they will end up purchasing different
10:14
collections that people have from
10:15
estates and things like that. So it's a
10:18
lot of older type of material. Not
10:21
really a lot. I was actually asking
10:22
about social D as well. Social
10:23
distortions from Orange County,
10:25
California. I was maybe trying to get
10:26
the first social D record. They didn't
10:28
have that as well but they did have a
10:30
few things. It's got some Clash and
10:31
other older punk stuff, but mostly just
10:34
a lot of really really retro old school
10:37
vinyl. Just a really, really great
10:39
place. Again, it's only open on the
10:41
weekend, so very grateful to be able to
10:43
pop in there and kind of take a gander
10:45
around. And there were signs all over
10:46
the doors that they allow drinks inside.
10:49
Most places are will shun the beverages,
10:51
so I was able to browse the vinyl with
10:53
my with my coffee, which was which was
10:56
pretty nice. So, I think I'm only
10:57
probably going to buy one record unless
10:59
I find some at the other antique shops,
11:01
but I want to go buy that vintage store
11:02
and definitely get that thing you do
11:04
record because that that's just too cool
11:05
to buy that down here exactly where the
11:07
movie was filmed. That that's kind of
11:09
what I'm going for with the collection
11:11
of vinyl that I'm doing. And inside
11:13
Groovy Ghost Vintage where they have
11:14
these 60s extremely fragile lights right
11:17
here. I really like that. And look at
11:18
this right here. It's a suitcase with
11:19
speakers in it. Honestly, this place is
11:21
really cool. Cool. They got some Teenage
11:22
Mutant Ninja Turtles, old Polaroids, and
11:25
I love that Mickey Mouse clock right
11:26
there. But take a look at this. A Mickey
11:28
Mouse Gucci
11:30
shirt. That's freaking awesome right
11:33
there. This little TV. That's just a
11:35
salt and pepper shaker right there.
11:36
Really like that store. Groovy Ghost
11:39
Vintage. Very nice people. Was talking
11:41
to them for a while. They've been there
11:42
for about a year. They took over another
11:44
antique shop and converted it into more
11:48
more kind of modernday pop culture.
11:51
Well, retro8s, '90s stuff like that. A
11:54
lot of classic cars through here as
11:55
well. There's that ghost sign. I was
11:56
wrong. So, I thought that was the one
11:58
they painted over, but it's still there.
11:59
The Hobs Hobs battery. A look at
12:02
this. It's a re all home repair, but
12:06
it's like an old military vehicle and
12:08
made to look like one. There's no place
12:10
like the orange at the
12:13
squeeze. A lot of Disney references
12:15
obviously because this is close to
12:17
Anaheim. It's in Orange County. To all
12:19
that come to this happy place, welcome.
12:21
Little Disney right there. Everything
12:24
Orange and more. Says right there on the
12:26
side, there's no place like Orange.
12:30
Orange. Welcome to Old Town Orange.
12:34
Orange, you're glad you're
12:35
here. The technical name of the the
12:39
Orange Store is the Squeeze. And they
12:42
have a pretty good selection of a lot of
12:43
different stuff. In fact, they have a
12:44
quite a few circles based on the circle.
12:48
They have quite a few circles. They have
12:50
what am I saying? I got the orange
12:51
circle on my mind. In fact, I was asking
12:52
the people who work there, the owner, if
12:54
they call it the circle or the plaza.
12:56
And she goes, "Well, I always call it
12:57
the circle, but a lot of times people
13:00
refer to as the plaza, but more people
13:01
call it the circle." And she said she
13:03
wants to make t-shirts that call it
13:05
calls it the plural. And I go, "Well, if
13:07
if I come back in the future and you
13:09
have a shirt that says the plural, I
13:10
will definitely buy it. I think it's a
13:12
great idea." And so I'm hoping that they
13:14
end up making plural
13:16
shirts. And I ended up getting a t-shirt
13:19
that they had in
13:21
there that has the old fountain that
13:24
went from the late 1800s that was built
13:27
before they created the new one in the
13:29
early 1900s, which is the one in the
13:31
circle. So I'll walk over to the old
13:34
one. People that own that shop are
13:36
really helpful informationwise. is. Now,
13:38
I knew the fountain has been moved over
13:40
in front of the library, the original
13:42
fountain from the 1800s. I did not
13:44
realize the backstory. According to
13:46
her next to the city of Orange Civic
13:50
Center here, you got some skaters out
13:51
here. So, the original fountain is over
13:53
here, the one from the 1800s. They
13:56
moved the early 1900s. They changed the
13:59
fountain to the current one. And I guess
14:01
there is a contingency. There's a group
14:03
of people who want to move this old
14:04
fountain back to where it was. But she
14:08
kind of had the same thought process I
14:09
do, which was people got to keep driving
14:12
through the circle and damaging it. It's
14:14
probably better to be right
14:20
here. But evidently where the
14:20
plaza/circle, the plural
14:22
is back in the 1800s was just basically
14:26
like a like a garden area with nothing
14:29
decorative like a fountain. It was just
14:32
kind of a patch of land. And there was a
14:34
group of
14:35
ladies that decided to do a fundraiser
14:38
to build the
14:45
fountain and that's why it
14:45
exists. This is the original one. From
14:48
what I've always heard, this is the
14:49
original one. Oh,
15:03
placard. But I got in a neat circle. Oh,
15:03
I hear the I hear the parrots. Look,
15:04
look, look.
15:13
Listen. Tough to hear them, but I love
15:13
that sound. I love that sound so much.
15:14
And got some birds of paradise here. Oh,
15:16
a blue bee was just flying around.
15:20
I always think of the tiki room when I
15:21
see these flowers. Birds of paradise.
15:23
Don't believe I I we have these in
15:30
Florida. They're using that thing you
15:30
do. They filmed a lot of the interiors
15:32
in
15:33
here. Kind of wish the old historic bar
15:37
restaurant that was here would have
15:38
stayed, but they changed it to the Kick
15:40
and Crab. It doesn't quite have the same
15:42
charm in my opinion as it once did.
15:47
Looks nothing inside like it did during
15:49
that thing you do. In fact, over here
15:51
there used to be some information
15:53
placards of some historical stuff right
15:55
over there in that corner behind that
15:57
heat lamp. They painted over it on some
16:00
things that were filmed here. Bench
16:01
Warmers I think was also filmed here.
16:03
That Rob Schneider baseball movie. David
16:06
Spade I think was in it. But most
16:09
popular that restaurant the inside was
16:11
using that thing you do prominently but
16:13
it doesn't look the same in there
16:14
anymore. Some nice plants out here.
16:18
I don't have any plants at my house cuz
16:19
I'm never ever ever home. Very rarely
16:22
home. But if I did, I'd probably have
16:24
these cuz these are very low
16:25
maintenance. I think you could probably
16:27
have these and they would last a long
16:28
time
16:29
without needing too much care. Should be
16:32
perfect for me. But even these with my
16:36
tra with this prayer as I'm home would
16:38
probably not survive.
16:57
Huh?
16:57
Oh, BW bus
17:00
alert.
17:02
Classic BW bus alert.
17:06
One thing about the circle, the plural,
17:08
plaza, always see classic cars all day
17:11
long, every day. I think just the base
17:13
of the old fountain was moved down there
17:15
by where the library is. Not the top
17:18
portion, just the base.
17:27
Also learned by one of the owners of the
17:29
shop that the orange circle is
17:31
technically called the Plaza Square. Yet
17:35
around the fountain is a complete
17:38
circle. And you can see here this
17:40
antique mall is calling it what
17:41
everybody calls it, the orange circle,
17:43
but not technical name. It's very
17:45
confusing. The plural. I like the
17:46
plural. Antique store overload through
17:49
here. 25 mph sign. Obviously, I can't
17:53
buy too much because I don't live here
17:55
and getting some of the stuff home. But
17:57
take a look at this therma
17:59
jug. Nice. I like this chair here. kind
18:02
of a beachy pool vibe chair. All right,
18:05
here we have Deluxe. Another vintage
18:07
shop. They buy, sell, and trade. Quite
18:12
an array of items in there. Basically,
18:14
it's a clothing place where you can buy
18:16
and sell clothes. A lot of vintage
18:18
stuff. There's a few things that caught
18:20
my eye, but I didn't purchase anything
18:22
of the clothing persuasion cuz I've
18:24
already got a t-shirt at the one spot,
18:26
but I ended up getting from the clothing
18:28
resell place. They make Old Town Orange
18:31
merchandise. Nice. I got this little
18:32
change purse so you can put some things
18:34
in it as well. It was $12 from Deluxe.
18:37
An orange pouch because it is the city
18:40
of Oldtown Orange. Like it right there.
18:43
I like change per little change
18:45
purchase. You can put change or little
18:47
little things in to keep things
18:49
organized. So I got this too just a just
18:52
because it's orange Oldtown Orange.
18:54
Here's another look at that little ghost
18:56
sign for the Owl City cigars. 5 cents.
18:59
You could get a cigar for 5 cents back
19:01
in the day. Probably can't get a cigar
19:02
for that price now. Pulling into the
19:05
Antique Station, also known as the
19:09
Antique Mall. Yeah. One of the dozens,
19:13
if not hundred antique malls that are in
19:16
this vicinity right here. Take a look at
19:19
this. The old Queen. Another one bites
19:20
the dust. I just recently watched that
19:23
movie on a plane. The Freddy Mercury
19:26
movie. What was it called? Bohemian Raps
19:28
City movie. It was really, really good.
19:29
I liked it.
19:32
Oh,
19:38
look at this. Justin Scard's booth. Oh,
19:38
should I get a Randomland hat? Should I
19:41
get a Randomland snapback cap right
19:44
here?
19:46
$35. Should I support uh the
19:50
cause? This has even got a Route 66. One
19:53
thing I will say about Dress, he is
19:54
definitely the king of Route 66
19:57
content. That stuff's so good. Don't
19:59
have him for forever and a day. It's got
20:01
all the Disney stuff in here. I'm
20:03
disappointed though. He did not let me
20:04
know he has a John Boy and the Walton's
20:08
paper
20:09
doll. I'm going to hold this against
20:11
Justin because I do love the Waltons.
20:13
You know, John Ritter, one of his first
20:15
gig, acting gigs, popular acting gigs,
20:18
was the minister on the Waltons. True
20:22
story. I'm not going to buy just just
20:24
I'm not going to buy it. Yeah, but just
20:26
wanted to point that out right here.
20:28
He's got some pins. Got some Jollywood
20:30
nights. Did he even Did Justin even go
20:31
to Jollywood nights? I don't think he
20:33
did. I don't think Justin even went to
20:34
Jollywood
20:36
nights. If he did, I missed that video.
20:39
I can't keep up with all of Justin's
20:40
videos. I watch a lot of them, but I
20:41
don't watch I don't Oh, that's good. Oo,
20:44
I like that talking robot up there. A
20:46
battle star.
20:47
Galactica Sylon Base Star.
20:51
Look at him having the the booth in
20:53
here.
20:56
pretty cool. He's just he does something
20:58
I've always wanted to do. I always
20:59
wanted to have like a vintage booth, but
21:01
I just don't have the time
21:04
to to do it. He got all the Star Wars
21:06
figures right over there. He's got the
21:08
head. Is that Han Solo's head right
21:11
there? Ooh, look at that
21:13
Goofy. I like that. All the old Mickey
21:16
stuff down in here. All the old vintage
21:18
Disney. Yeah, this is in the antique
21:20
mall, the antique station. Random Land
21:24
which is run by a good buddy Justin
21:26
Scard has a booth in here. You can get
21:29
stuff that Justin Scard
21:31
touched. He touched he actually touched
21:33
this stuff with his own personal hands.
21:37
Ah nice shaded bench right underneath
21:39
this tree next to the fountain. Let's
21:42
sit here for a bit. While I'm sitting
21:44
here at this really wonderful place with
21:46
the nice breeze in the
21:48
air watching the fountain. I was
21:50
watching the Rays game. went to the 10th
21:52
inning. Bottom of the 10th, Jonathan
21:53
Aranda, Durham
21:56
Bulls legend was in the AAA system for
22:00
so many years and would get called up
22:03
to to Tampa and then back down, but he's
22:06
doing so good this year for the race.
22:08
Jonathan Randa walks it off in the
22:11
bottom of the 10th against the Yankees
22:14
while I'm sitting here at the fountain.
22:18
Just watching it on my phone. Love it.
22:20
Raise up. I'll show a little merch haul
22:22
that I got. I got obviously the Oldtown
22:25
Orange little change purse and that
22:28
thing you do vinyl. Also got the shirt
22:31
over there that I'll show. But I also
22:32
picked up this
22:33
Magic Kingdom
22:36
Club
22:43
1985 calendar and
22:43
almond. How cool is this?
22:47
Disneyland Park in California.
22:51
Walt Disney World Vacation Kingdom in
22:54
Florida. And kind of neat inside here.
22:57
See if I can pull this out of here. Is
23:02
calendar for 1985. Thought that was kind
23:05
of neat. So, I picked that
23:07
up. And then also saw this this Disney
23:11
news the antique store. And I thought
23:14
this might have possibly would have been
23:16
Disneyland Mark Twain, but I was
23:18
confused why it said Empress Lily, which
23:19
is obviously named after
23:21
Lilybo, Lily, Lillian, which is Walt's
23:24
wife. Turns out, opening this up and
23:28
looking at it, this is Downtown
23:31
Disney, now Disney Springs. And that is
23:35
the river boat that's there on the on
23:37
the water there. That's now the
23:38
restaurant. It used to be called the
23:39
Empress Lily.
23:41
I also picked up this Epcot Center.
23:44
Really good stuff inside of here, which
23:46
is part of the Magic Kingdom Club book.
23:48
And then here is that t-shirt that I got
23:51
that has the original top of the orange
23:55
fountain. Oldtown orange. Open that up.
23:59
Kind of a really cool cool shirt
24:02
here. That was the original top to the
24:04
fountain, which is now down that way by
24:06
the library. It used to be right here
24:09
back in the late
24:10
1800s. Old school shirt. Old school
24:14
shirt. I'm just looking through that
24:15
thing you do album here. There are a
24:18
couple photos I believe are at the
24:19
Orange Circle like right here and this
24:22
one as well. Little retro area. Love
24:27
it. Very cool.
24:36
Also interesting, they did not realize
24:36
this about the fountain
24:38
here. Dedicate the plaque to the spirit
24:40
of the Olympic torch run to the American
24:42
people. Torch bears have been greeted
24:44
along for the organization in New York
24:46
City. It was greeted to a cheering crowd
24:48
when it passed through the city
24:51
circle on July 26, 1984.
24:56
This historic event, the example of
24:58
determination, persistence, and unity
24:59
can accomplish with the effort of many
25:01
working towards a common
25:03
goal. And whoever passes here, let him
25:06
remember the brave men of the Orange
25:08
community who have in all times gone to
25:11
the defense of their country.
25:20
All right. In another one of the antique
25:20
malls, one of the
25:23
many Grou lower levels has more
25:33
shops. It's a vintage clothing up here.
25:33
Still trying to find Tragic Kingdom on
25:37
vinyl. Oh, here we go. Here's some
25:40
records again. A lot of older stuff. El
25:44
John. Oh, there's a net songs of Hawaii.
25:57
Ooh, this LP was
25:57
also in California. Hotel California, I
26:00
believe. Memory serves me correct. That
26:03
is the Beverly top of the Beverly Hills
26:19
Hotel American Graffiti Perfect Gay
26:19
Steelely Dan Elvis. This album cover is
26:22
at Warner Brothers. If you do the Warner
26:24
Brothers tour, you can see that spot.
26:26
It's right next to the Annie Fire Escape
26:28
and also the spot in PeeWee's Big
26:30
Adventure when Tim Burton's a We don't
26:32
take kindly to strangers come around
26:35
here. Same
26:37
alleyway. Also could be seen in the
26:39
background of Gremlins. Other other
26:41
spots. This is Stretch Armstrong right
26:44
there. You'll see those every
26:50
day. California raisins. Mary Poppins
26:50
down there.
27:21
game. Doesn't have the same effect when
27:21
you don't yell it out. I don't want to
27:22
yell out at an antique shop. Oh, wow.
27:25
Are these the vintage ones? These are
27:28
for a long time you couldn't get
27:30
nightmare toys. These might be the the
27:46
OGs. Just so much to look at, so much to
27:46
see in these antique shops. Sometimes
27:48
you don't even need to buy anything.
27:50
Sometimes you just walk around and
27:52
peruse at all the nostalgia. Just
27:54
realized I had to come back in here
27:55
because I said I was going to purchase a
27:57
random land hat and I forgot. So, I'm
27:59
coming back in here to get this classics
28:02
random hat right here.
28:04
$35 random land hat. Yeah, I got a I got
28:08
a I've been wanting to get one of these
28:10
for a while, so I came back in to
28:12
purchase one for 35 bones. They got
28:13
these cool stickers, too. Look at this.
28:15
Like a little vending machine right
28:16
here. Lots of
28:18
stickers. There you go. I know a proud
28:20
owner of a Snap Pack. This is an
28:22
authentic hat. Worked out well. The
28:25
store was just closing 5:30
28:27
p.m. My random land
28:31
cap based out of
28:34
Orange, Orange, California. A lot of the
28:37
houses here remind me a little bit of
28:39
South Pasadena. Kind of has a South
28:41
Pasadena flare to
28:48
it. I used to live about two more blocks
28:48
this way to the right.
28:51
Right by the train
29:01
tracks. Lot of good memories here. Over
29:01
in Anaheim
29:03
now where I will be walking down Harbor
29:07
going over to another one of my favorite
29:08
spots that I
29:11
always stop off at whenever I'm in the
29:14
area.
29:16
chose Italian Ice straight ahead here a
29:18
block just past Orangewood. Another
29:20
block or so past Orangewood and Harbor.
29:22
If you take left out of here and walk
29:24
down Orangewood, a few blocks down is
29:27
where the last apartment I had here in
29:30
Anaheim was pretty close to Disney. A
29:33
mile walk to the Disney
29:40
gates. Walked walked in there many
29:40
times.
29:43
memories like the corner of my
29:46
mind. Is that how the lyrics go? Ah,
29:49
there it is. It's a beautiful
29:51
thing. Joe's Italian ice. Italian ice
29:55
and ice cream right here on the corner
29:58
of Wilin
30:00
Way and
30:03
Harbor. Love it. Love this
30:06
place. Had a lot of frozen ice.
30:11
This is my favorite place. Joe's Italian
30:12
Ice when it comes to the frozen ice
30:17
persuasion places. I think this is my
30:20
number one. Could be nostalgia. Could be
30:23
the fact that I live right down the road
30:24
from here and consume many Italian ISIS,
30:29
but I just I just love
30:31
Joe's. I hit uh golden hour. The line is
30:34
insanely long right now. Not too bad at
30:37
all. I mean, I've seen this line 10
30:39
times this late. I think I'm hitting it
30:41
just the right amount, right time before
30:43
the parks let out, etc. $6.99 for a
30:47
large. And I'm going to end up getting
30:49
the sugarfree pineapple. Just the
30:51
pineapple, not with anything else.
30:54
Sugar-free pineapple with tax was like 7
30:56
and change right there. Yeah, they have
30:58
quite a few
31:00
options. Pineapple time. Oh, yeah.
31:03
That's what's up right there. Joe's
31:05
Italian ice. Little
31:09
pineapple. Pineapple. They also have
31:11
something called a joy where they put
31:12
the ice cream in there. But I just
31:14
wanted the ice. I wanted the tastiness
31:18
of just the Italian ice. Cheers. And as
31:21
much as I miss this place and love
31:23
living in SoCal, highly doubtful I'll
31:25
ever move
31:31
back. I mean, who knows what the future
31:31
holds,
31:33
but definitely not anytime in the near
31:36
future, if that even happens. I mean,
31:39
purchasing a house in
31:41
Celebration kind of seals the deal on
31:44
where I'm going to reside for a
31:50
while. I mean, who knows? I'm 50 now.
31:50
When I'm 60 in 10
32:09
area. Walking up to the convention
32:09
center
32:17
now. A lot of memories here. VidCons,
32:17
D23s, Wondercons.
32:26
I remember
32:26
2014, 2015, 2016 VidCon. That was a
32:30
whole different animal than what VidCon
32:33
is now. I mean, YouTube was a whole
32:36
different a whole different beast back
32:45
then. I don't even think VidCon's about
32:45
YouTube anymore. It's more about
32:46
influencers and other social media
32:49
platforms, I would imagine.
32:51
I don't even know if I'd have any
32:52
interest in going to VidCon
32:59
now. This isn't bad. This is pretty dang
32:59
tasty for for a sugar-free no ice cream.
33:03
It's actually got a lot of flavor to it.
33:05
Very
33:07
pineappley. Got my hat on backwards. It
33:09
looks like the fountain's under
33:11
construction here at the convention
33:12
center.
33:19
They usually the fountain's on, but they
33:20
have these little
33:42
off. Please keep out of fountain. Thank
33:42
you.
33:59
Here's when the convention center was
33:59
being built in the
34:01
60s, the original convention center.
34:03
I'll walk over
34:04
there. And they built this to capitalize
34:07
on the huge success of Disneyland, which
34:11
is soon to be celebrating their 70th
34:13
anniversary. Disneyland, of course,
34:15
opened in
34:23
55. Cavalcade of artists played here in
34:24
70s. And that's the original convention
34:27
center. Look at there's the Matter Horn
34:30
right there. That's how close it is.
34:32
There's where DCA all is now.
34:36
Disneyland right there. Beach Boys
34:39
played here in
34:40
73. And the king of rock and roll, Elvis
34:43
Presley, played here in 1973, also April
34:47
23rd,
34:54
73 in the early 80s. So, take a look at
34:54
this. So, there's the original area. And
34:56
here's the massive convention center
34:58
section that's now modern day. But you
35:00
can see in the 80s you would have to go
35:03
out of one building and into the other.
35:05
You could see how there's like
35:07
separations in that. They've since
35:08
closed all that
35:10
in. That's
35:36
clocks. This was no exception on showing
35:36
that one as well. Oh, the light just
35:38
turned on. Nightfall is about to rear
35:41
its head. It's dusk is happening.
36:08
This is always fascinating to me as
36:11
well. They opened this on the same day
36:15
Disneyland opened on July 17th, 12 years
36:19
after Disneyland opened. But they chose
36:23
the same opening date of July
36:26
17th. Is that
36:28
neat? I hear Incred Coaster over there.
36:31
Formerly the California
36:34
Screaming. Sometimes I get mixed up, but
36:36
I call it California Screaming. It
36:38
really is called the Incredic
36:39
Coaster. DCA is just right over that
36:42
cusp of palm trees. That's how close it
36:45
is to the
36:51
park. I'm imagining this is supposed to
36:51
symbolize an A for Anaheim, just like
36:53
Angel Stadium has the big
37:05
A. See if we can hear some screaming
37:05
from here. Some yelling on the
37:08
coasters. Listen closely.
37:30
Love it. Faintly hear it. And that's
37:30
going to do it for today. Thanks for
37:33
watching. I appreciate it. I'll see you
37:36
in the next
37:38
video. The
37:40
vlog ends.
