0:36 Disney World driving around downtown for

0:39 no joke probably about 45 minutes

1:14 M even though the Magic Kingdom is about

1:15 10 miles or so from downtown there is a

1:18 huge chunk of History right where I'm

1:21 standing about 6 years before the grand

1:24 opening of Walt Disney World Walt and

1:26 Roy flew from California to here in

1:29 Orlando

1:30 and made the announcement

1:33 inside this building which used to be a

1:36 hotel and is now Apartments the grounds

1:39 had not even been broken yet no

1:42 buildings had been constructed but right

1:46 inside that

1:48 hallway is where the announcement was

1:51 made the birth of Walt Disney World I

1:55 don't think anyone had any idea of the

1:57 magnitude it would blossom into well

2:00 maybe a small inkling because even the

2:02 governor he showed up I'd like for you

2:04 to meet someone who's going to be a new

2:06 neighbor of ours here in Florida Mr Walt

2:09 Disney in fact the state was so excited

2:13 about this Venture they put a banner

2:17 directly across this location saying

2:20 welcome Walt Disney they were not

2:23 welcoming a theme park they were

2:25 welcoming the man Walt Disney himself

2:28 pulled up right here in his car and went

2:31 in to make that announcement it was

2:32 called the Cherry Plaza and there used

2:35 to be an awning stating the

2:38 name right there in fact his car pulled

2:42 up right here and there's a few key

2:44 points that designate this location the

2:47 first being this street sign which has

2:51 been changed but there was always a

2:53 street sign there and this fire hydrant

2:56 over here on the corner of course fire

2:59 hydrants all always stay basically in

3:01 the same places that they were placed

3:03 even decades later all of these

3:05 buildings have considerably Chang there

3:08 used to be homes here but he parked here

3:11 him and Roy once inside it's very hard

3:13 to designate exactly where they walked

3:16 when they entered in I'm thinking maybe

3:18 right along here there used to be a

3:21 glass walk entryway and they would have

3:24 opened the door and walked directly

3:26 towards where I'm standing and it's

3:28 funny because on proper there is a tiki

3:31 bar if Walt would have only known in the

3:34 tiki TIY TIY TIY TIY room if you watch

3:37 the footage closely you'll notice they

3:39 go into an elevator I think this is that

3:43 elevator that they walk

3:45 into right there it's where it all began

3:49 right inside that building the first

3:51 announcement to the

3:53 world about the Florida project there's

3:56 a little flea market right next door her

3:58 as well I would wager that very few

4:02 people wandering through here know what

4:04 they're standing next to yet most of

4:06 them probably have annual passes to the

4:09 parks there are definitely a lot of

4:11 birds out here mostly these swans

4:16 beautiful beautiful

4:27 swans less than one year after that

4:27 announcement Walt Disney passed pass

4:30 away his brother Roy who handled the

4:32 business side of it the money side Walt

4:35 had the ideas and the creativity to make

4:38 things happen and a lot of people

4:40 including me realize that that would not

4:43 have come to the fruition that it has if

4:45 it was not for his partner and his

4:48 brother Roy instead of retiring after

4:51 Walt passing away Roy carried on to see

4:55 the completion and the grand opening of

4:58 the Magic Kingdom there's some Kitty

4:59 pools here sitting off the side of

5:01 Interstate 4 behind that fence not

5:05 really sure why but there

5:15 are there is another key spot in the

5:15 birth of Walt Disney World and it lies

5:19 just as you're entering the property

5:21 Back in

5:22 1970 this was all a dirt road and in

5:25 January of that

5:28 year this building

5:37 opened the Walt Disney World preview

5:37 Center and it stayed open until the day

5:40 before Magic Kingdom opened its doors

5:43 and this tree is raining down

5:46 acorns upon my windshield that's what

5:48 that big thud sound was here is that

5:51 original turn in the very first

5:54 structure built anywhere on property now

5:57 it's four lanes and there are a pleth

6:00 of hotels all along this road the

6:02 purpose of the building was to give

6:04 people in the area an idea of what the

6:06 future held and the building looks

6:10 exactly the same of course now it is not

6:12 previewing anything it is owned by the

6:14 amateur athletic Union but decades ago

6:18 Pluto and Goofy stood right here waving

6:22 and welcoming

6:24 everyone under the new Disney property

6:27 the sign would have stood right there

6:30 and in the photo I found online there

6:32 were some very interesting circular

6:35 cylinder esque items right here in the

6:37 grass that are not there anymore I

6:39 wonder what those were used for they've

6:41 changed the front doors a little bit

6:42 since back then now there's only one set

6:44 of doors instead of two but the

6:47 interesting thing is these handrails are

6:50 the same handrails from 1970 and

6:53 standing right here were the first ever

6:57 wdw cast members

7:00 think about that the First cast members

7:03 were standing right here on these stairs

7:05 and you can faintly see a Mickey Mouse

7:08 in

7:10 there

7:18 look just hanging out getting ready to

7:18 learn a little bit about this new

7:19 Orlando Florida theme park read about it

7:24 newspaper I wonder how this one's going

7:27 do yeah you know

7:30 what it'll never take off it'll never

7:33 turn into anything

7:42 worthwhile sometimes I think Roy Disney

7:42 does not get the praise and admiration

7:45 that he deserves in comparison to his

7:47 brother think about this for a second an

7:50 interesting fact is that Roy opened the

7:54 Magic Kingdom and he dedicated the name

7:57 of the theme park to Walt and called it

8:00 Walt Disney World originally it was just

8:03 going to be called Disney World just

8:05 like in Anaheim it's Disneyland but he

8:08 wanted to pay his respects to his

8:11 brother a couple weeks after the opening

8:14 day he dedicated Magic Kingdom and gave

8:17 the dedication kind of sort of opening

8:20 day speech even though it was delayed 2

8:23 to three weeks after October 1st

8:26 1971 and after he gave this speech after

8:29 he put his heart and soul and his life

8:34 and his non-retirement into completing

8:38 him and his brother's dream only a few

8:41 weeks less than two months after that

8:44 opening day speech of the Florida

8:47 project

8:49 Roy also passed

8:52 away and as cliche as it sounds and

8:56 sometimes kind of said in a comical

8:59 fashion

9:00 Roy really had done his duty and he went

9:04 home and slept

9:06 well very interesting very interesting

9:09 little tidbit a little twist when it

9:12 comes to Walt Disney World History Walt

9:16 Disney who will bring a new world of

9:20 entertainment pleasure and economic

9:23 development to the State of Florida Walt

9:24 Disney

9:35 may I may I also introduce on my

9:35 left the financial genius of Walt Disney

9:39 Productions its president Mr Roy

9:46 Disney that's right we hope we might

9:47 bring some Californians over to Florida

9:49 they see to see the new one in Florida

9:50 but I predict that with the combination

9:53 of the tourist center at Cape Kennedy

9:56 and with this Disney attraction that

9:59 will experience at least a 50% and

10:02 possibly 100% increase in tourism in the

10:06 state of Florida
