0:16 nowhere just outside Bryson City started
0:20 in the 1940s and was never completed the
0:23 whole Road was shut down in the
0:26 1970s and it's just sitting out here
0:29 just doing nothing we got to show them

0:56 the bottom of the hill next to this
0:58 railroad track they actually put cars
1:01 right here to keep the old cars keep the
1:04 River from washing away and they're all
1:07 along the river bad it's pretty

2:53 inside we're inside the tunnel this
2:56 thing's pretty long

3:04 tunnel started building it in the early
3:07 40s 70s it was shut down due to
3:11 environmental
3:19 concerns to this day it's not
3:19 completed Town recently received
3:22 millions of dollars of FAL Aid as
3:25 compensation for
3:27 their neighborhood and
3:47 water hey
3:47 Adam did you know that the original Lake
3:49 you drive is still at the bottom of Lake
3:51 Fontana when this road was built
3:53 originally to take them all the way to
3:55 Tennessee smile photo opportunity
4:00 hey Adam do you know that the flooded
4:02 Valley blocked people in Bryson City off
4:04 from their ancestrial graveyards that
4:06 the federal government had to pay to
4:08 take them out there once a year to visit
4:09 their
4:18 families it's amazing how far out no pun
4:18 intended in the middle of nowhere this
4:20 is sitting at the top of where the
4:22 tunnel would be the tunnel would be
4:25 directly below me it's about 10 miles
4:29 from from town so the closest town you
4:31 got to drive 10 miles to even get out
