0:26 welcome everyone I'm in the desert of
0:26 California at Salvation Mountain
0:35 join me shall you does that include
0:35 me yes then I
0:58 shall the man who created this creation
0:58 used to live inside of these trucks when
1:00 he first came to the desert
2:01 yeah
2:01 Leonard Knight built Salvation Mountain
2:03 with some straw paint and his own two
2:08 hands he had a reason for everything too
2:11 a scripture for the Sea and the boat and
2:14 whole Sea of Galilee see that tree
2:17 symbol he's got going on and that
2:19 waterfall that's his waterfall all those
2:20 are waterfalls that red thing is the
2:22 Tree of
2:24 Life this Mountain's still here out in
2:27 the middle of the California desert Sur
2:29 rounded and covered with Bible
2:45 verses no
2:45 mail Leonard's rules were to stay on the
2:49 yellow brick road just like the sign
2:50 says right there yes the yellow brick
2:53 road it's not really brick it's just
2:55 yellow there could be brick
2:57 underneath this mountain is basically a
2:59 big pile of dirt covered in layers and
3:01 layers of
3:03 paint you can see Leonard's construction
3:06 technique straw and this mud that he
3:09 would call Adobe
4:08 not only is Salvation Mountain
4:08 impressive from the front but also the
4:11 underbelly and these rooms what's inside
4:15 these fantastic rooms
4:32 Salvation
4:32 Mountain whove left their
4:34 IDs people leave their IDs out here
4:38 memories at Salvation Mountain what is
4:52 this what is it carpet for the bottom of
4:55 the flowers a little bit of mud pain
5:10 this is the inside of Salvation Mountain
5:10 into the underbelly and the wonderful
5:13 world of Salvation Mountain look up
5:16 there you can see the hay that the paint
5:18 is glazed over to create the
5:31 mountain this is awesome last time we
5:31 were here he was up on one of those
5:32 ladders way up there tying these
5:35 together so he actually a little old guy
5:37 about this tall I don't know maybe 5
5:39 foot up on the ladder tying all these
5:42 pieces of wood together all by itself
5:44 yep quite a creation said if sometimes
5:47 volunteers would help him but mostly by
5:49 himself oh look here he is there's
5:57 Leonard this is
5:57 incredible look at this
6:05 all on the backside of dirt that's what
6:05 it looks like before the paint what a
6:08 difference some paint can
6:10 make you can see this is where he wanted
6:12 to expand it you can see how he dug away
6:15 up the hill you hay B's lined up yeah he
6:17 was going to keep going that way with
6:18 the mountain but he's fallen ill and
6:22 he's no longer out here get better
6:24 hopefully this place stays out here and
6:27 survives the test of time
6:41 these were his
6:41 waterfalls what's that these were his
6:43 waterfalls you like to talk about these
6:45 were waterfalls everything here had a
6:47 meaning I wish he was here to explain it
6:49 all to us
7:04 I wonder why he left
7:04 out look it as he was painting into it
7:06 it's like a secret Corridor yeah maybe
7:09 for his
7:14 cat yeah it's like a secret little
7:14 Corridor there realize it was
7:15 structurally UN sound added some more
7:17 mud added some more mud clay straw he
7:21 just kept reinforcing going layer by
7:23 layer there was no master plan he just
7:26 layer by layer
7:37 all caved
7:37 in it all caved in right there
8:17 thanks for watching everyone they say
8:17 nothing grows in the desert but they
8:19 were
8:20 wrong they were wrong
