0:03 today's adventure brings me to
0:03 downtown Milwaukee Wisconsin as the
0:07 recording of this Sunday April 28th
0:10 2024 it is cool it is crisp it is
0:14 overcast it is somewhat raining a little
0:19 dreary and
0:21 cold and I'm going to start off with my
0:24 downtown
0:25 wanderings by getting a coffee over here
0:27 at the Stone Creek coffee and look up
0:39 top also should mention is very very
0:39 very very
0:46 windy can't stress that enough it's
0:46 Gusty welcome everyone ad of the woo
0:50 here my hair is was it was somewhat Ked
0:53 now it's unkempt it unkempt or up
0:56 unkempt either way the wind has kind of
0:59 tossed it around a little bit so it's
1:02 not someone's yelling at me walking up I
1:05 ended up having to go to the store and
1:07 purchase this I went the last few days
1:09 was in SoCal it got a little cool and
1:11 crisp did not need to get a hoodie I
1:13 kind of was probably could have worn one
1:16 and not been uncomfortable but didn't
1:19 thought I could get here and get away
1:20 with not having one this is needed and
1:22 it even has a little top portion on can
1:25 put it on like that if I so choose
1:27 coffee first and I'm just going to walk
1:29 around downtown have no game plan today
1:32 whatsoever except
1:34 downtown walking join me good to have
1:38 you here probably don't need these on
1:39 either probably don't need the
1:40 sunglasses join me shall you what's
1:57 that not sure what he was saying okay
1:57 this is called the bone shaker and I
2:00 asked the
2:01 Barista she said uh it doesn't have any
2:03 extra caffeine it's just our light blend
2:05 but the light blend that does it has
2:07 normal caffeine which is fine but I was
2:09 thinking man maybe I get a little extra
2:10 kick with the bone shaker I guess their
2:13 bone shaker is just their light blend I
2:14 like light Blend
2:19 Coffee I me I'll drink Starbucks if
2:19 that's more I mean they have a blonde
2:21 roast but usually I prefer you know like
2:24 Duncan or Tim Horton has a light blend
2:26 so I'm thinking that's this is kind of
2:28 like that woo yeah it's
2:36 Rusty okay it's
2:36 good it's good say it's great just kind
2:40 of it's medium grade
2:44 coffee it does have a nice aftertaste to
2:47 it though okay step up above that forget
2:49 what I said that's a nice
2:54 aftertaste I could probably wear gloves
2:54 right now and it would feel
2:57 good but they don't have any gloves
3:01 I what the temperature is so look it up
3:03 I'm going to do my best to kind of
3:05 protect the microphone with my hand to
3:07 show this fire hydrant here it's all
3:10 colorful cuz it is
3:13 windy windy oh it's got
3:28 raining that's what that noise is like a
3:29 heating duck maybe there's an
3:30 underground Subway
3:32 here I don't know that's the first thing
3:34 I thought of I I don't know for
3:41 certain see what I can find definitely a
3:41 lot of old buildings down here this is a
3:43 mattress place oh street car tracks
3:54 ahead you'll see sides like that too of
3:54 them and also look at this retro signage
3:57 up here
4:04 saved Factory to you there's a mattress
4:04 there's a mattress mascot right there I
4:07 like it the postal workers union always
4:10 like these
4:11 glass type of
4:17 Windows old
4:17 buildings foggy out here too it looks
4:19 beautiful but it is the hands are
4:23 cold oh this is
4:27 interesting it looks like uh a
4:31 tusked not a cow Mammoth like a woolly
4:34 mammoth this is also interesting so for
4:37 midnight to 6:00 a.m. you can't walk
4:39 over there but because it is not during
4:41 those hours going take a little bit of a
4:43 closer Peak over here okay this is
4:47 called the
4:48 MK Mastadon it says it right here on the
4:52 side it's like a heater of some sort the
4:56 MK mastadon
5:03 also known as
5:03 Rusty Macedon were D to Wisconsin
5:06 Wisconsin in the last ice AG oh there
5:08 goes one of the transportation devices
5:10 through there that's what the tracks are
5:12 laid down there
5:17 for this is dedicated back to life last
5:17 year in 2023 so it's brand new life-size
5:20 Recreation weighs 22,000 lb was born in
5:24 Milwaukee as a boiler at the
5:26 100-year-old nun Bush shoe factory not
5:29 quite as old as a real Mastadon but is a
5:31 steel
5:33 Mastadon nonetheless look at those
5:36 tusks love it that is pretty neat I
5:39 always like lawn art of sorts like that
5:42 so it's kind of cool kind of cool to see
5:51 it he's got to be
5:52 cool this gentleman has been riding up
5:54 and down the side of the street he
5:55 passed me earlier going the other way
6:02 now was going back the other way looks
6:02 pretty neat from this direction too I
6:03 guess also during the day they have
6:05 these grills out here so you can
6:06 barbecue and do your
6:09 thing it's a little public
6:20 fog I like these Big Bay elephant style
6:20 doors right here as
6:23 well kind of neat
6:25 looking tell this thing is very sturdy
6:28 and these doors bit for a
6:35 while it's always nice going to a city
6:35 I'm not really familiar with I've been
6:37 to Milwaukee before but it's been a heck
6:38 of a long time and to be honest I don't
6:41 even recall what I did if anything it is
6:44 nice just exploring with no real game
6:47 plan place you're not real familiar
6:50 with guess they decided to put like a
6:52 bag over the top of it
7:02 maybe the parking meters are a little
7:02 chilly too they needed a little need to
7:05 get bundled up also this hotel right
7:07 here has very goldish Windows look how
7:10 gold those windows are that's awesome
7:13 lit up Marquee there the
7:15 Warner yeah check that out that's
7:27 cool and walk over there all right it's
7:27 interesting I looked it up real quick
7:28 and Warner Brothers in fact is the
7:32 reason it's called the Warner Theater at
7:33 least according to the article I read
7:36 they invested a ton of money and they
7:38 had a lot of Their Stars show up here to
7:40 open it I had no
7:43 idea there was an Affiliated place not
7:47 anymore but originally started by the
7:49 Warner Brother company here in
7:57 Milwaukee more you know got a little
7:57 ghost sign up there for the hotel
7:59 Wisconsin guest room suites Apartments
8:02 meeting rooms
8:33 okay there's a little sculpture
8:33 here see these are officer no
8:41 they're we got some Popeye's Chicken
8:44 right there in honor of the men and
8:46 women who delivered for America rain SLE
8:47 and sucas for the US Postal
8:50 Service tribute to their Union National
8:53 Association of letter carriers
9:05 I'll deliver it in this got to hand it
9:05 to
9:21 him right here along the Riverwalk it
9:21 looks like there's a yeah there is a
9:23 little river walk right
9:24 here dang this reminds me of Chicago so
9:27 much
9:40 look at that users famous sausages up
9:40 there that's pretty
9:50 good also spilled my coffee on me I was
9:50 throwing it away this is probably not
9:52 the the best Hue of a jacket I just got
9:57 this was got the store is pretty
9:59 inexpensive was like 15
10:01 bucks so probably won't keep it but I
10:03 got a little I got a little stained it
10:06 up got a seagull flying by
10:10 there some boats down in that section
10:14 Milwaukee was the fictional setting for
10:16 quite well not really fictional but the
10:17 setting for some shows that were based
10:19 in Milwaukee that were filmed
10:27 elsewhere when you think of
10:27 Milwaukee think of lever and surely and
10:29 happy
10:31 days and when you think of Happy Days
10:34 think of this character that the great
10:36 Henry Winkler created
10:39 Hey the
10:41 fs look at
10:44 this there Henry wikler in sculpture
10:47 form here The Fawns there is no shark
10:50 down here that he's jumping he's given
10:52 the double thumbs up he's giving it a
10:54 big thumbs
10:56 up the bronze
11:00 fawns right there that
11:07 cool
11:07 hey sit on it poy sit on it oh check
11:12 this out Henry wiler's been down here to
11:14 see it did a quick little search there
11:17 he is got his hand around himself love
11:20 it I like how they added on that parking
11:22 structure they have a little
11:24 concrete section of it it looks like the
11:26 skyline to kind of blend in with a
11:28 partial of the old
11:39 Skyline that's free parking right up
11:39 there way up there that's a long way to
11:41 go though for free
11:43 parking so the National Registry of
11:45 historic places back in 1918 this
11:48 Outdoor
11:50 Cafe speaking of lever and Shirley next
11:53 to the paps theater there is that
11:57 iconic I almost I guess it's like the
11:59 the clock tower of City Hall that could
12:01 be seen prominently in the intro of
12:05 lever and Shirley I don't see the sign
12:06 up there anymore used to be a
12:10 sign up on the side that it zoomed in
12:12 really quick likeon I don't see it up
12:15 there on the clock tower anymore yeah I
12:16 used to say welcome Milwaukee visitors
12:19 and for one reason or another it's not
12:21 up there anymore I'm sure over time they
12:23 took it down it' be kind of neat if it
12:24 was still up there I'm sure a lot of
12:26 people recognize that from the show but
12:28 20 24 it's not up there anymore I'm
12:30 standing here at the base of the very
12:32 foggy kind of hard to see Clock Tower
12:34 and I almost tripped because the
12:38 concrete was not completely level and
12:42 then I thought oh there's like some
12:43 Footprints down here that are some
12:45 someone famous no it's just someone
12:46 stuck their foot there when they were
12:49 when they were putting this fresh thing
12:50 here this is not
12:52 like this is not hit weeker
12:56 footprint at least I don't think it is
12:58 maybe it is maybe Henry Winker walked
13:00 around the block and was like oh there's
13:01 wet
13:02 cement probably not but maybe who knows
13:04 that maybe maybe you never know what the
13:05 fonts hey now this is an interesting art
13:08 installation right here I thought maybe
13:10 it was like a camera lens or something
13:12 but I can't really tell what it is like
13:13 a big rubber pipe says watch your step
13:16 down here it's illuminated by these
13:18 little red lights watch your step it in
13:20 the middle there's a tree trunk and then
13:22 it kind of splits off like a fork in the
13:24 a fork in the pipe here
13:38 and it's not too busy down here because
13:38 as I'm filming this it's a
13:47 Sunday car's going over the bridge is
13:47 what that sound
13:55 is kind of thinking I might go get one
13:55 of those famous sausages that they're
13:57 open today
14:03 a lot of art installations this is
14:03 called SS
14:11 core by Robert
14:11 smart there's a goose down
14:21 there clock is telling correct time got
14:21 a little later start today cuz yesterday
14:22 was quite the Fiasco with getting
14:27 here had a
14:30 long flight
14:33 day didn't get into town till about 3:
14:36 got to my hotel around
14:38 4: went to sleep around 4:30 or
14:53 1674 wow that's 300 years before I was
14:53 even
14:59 born this might be Father Marquette over
14:59 over
15:03 here I believe it
15:17 him I stepped inside inside this little
15:19 Alco to a hotel at some
15:23 interesting presidential history inside
15:26 here it's kind of echoey too because I'm
15:29 kind of in this little Alco area back in
15:31 1912 John shrank a
15:34 bartender from New York attempted
15:38 assassination on Theodore
15:40 Roosevelt a candidate for president at
15:43 the time during a visit to
15:46 Milwaukee pretty wild happened right
15:48 here in this
15:50 spot now I don't see this building here
15:53 anymore I think maybe they've torn the
15:54 building down or repurposed it or re
15:57 redesigned it says it look the same
15:59 outside at least from what I can tell
16:01 but on this spot October 14th 1912 there
16:04 was an attempt made upon the life of
16:07 Theodore
16:12 Roosevelt insane
16:12 man the Milwaukee
16:16 Sentinel that is really
16:24 interesting doctors decided to leave the
16:24 bullet in Roosevelt's chest for the
16:26 present
16:39 then we'll go outside to see if that
16:39 still looks the
16:43 same it was the
16:46 hotel Kurt Patrick
16:54 gilpatrick according to what the front
16:54 of that photo looks like all right it
16:56 definitely does not look the same that
16:58 look looks like an old building but
17:00 where I just was is now this modern
17:03 style hotel but the building the photo I
17:06 just showed was right there on that
17:08 corner just stumbled on this as I was
17:10 walking down the road here right next to
17:12 the little hotel where I just was the
17:14 birthplace of the American leag of
17:16 course of Tampa Bay Razer in the
17:17 American League East the Republican
17:19 house a hotel that stood on the site up
17:21 to 1961 was the was the birthplace of
17:24 baseball's American League on the night
17:27 of March 5th 1900 Milwaukee attorney
17:31 Henry CA and his brother Matt Connie
17:36 Mack ban Johnson and kamsky Charles
17:40 kamsky gathered in 185 in defiance of
17:43 the existing national
17:45 league this is where it all started the
17:48 Chicago White stockings later the white
17:49 socks were Incorporated and the League's
17:52 eight teams of line were complete after
17:53 the 1900 season the league completely
17:56 reorganized and Baltimore which are the
17:58 Orioles Boston which are the Red Sox
18:00 Philadelphia which are the Phillies
18:01 which are
18:03 not in the AL East and Washington DC and
18:07 archived Major League status
18:10 interesting very interesting I had I had
18:13 no idea I just happened to be walking by
18:14 this and I was like what the heck
18:16 crossing over State Street onto King
18:19 Street I think this is Martin Luther yep
18:21 Martin Luther King Street said King but
18:25 then I see the MLK underneath it kind of
18:27 a lot of old buildings through here also
18:30 kind of interesting I know a lot of the
18:31 places down here are not open because it
18:34 is the Sunday as I'm walking around I'm
18:37 curious to see if users or you
18:41 users will be open maybe and if there's
18:44 not there's probably some other places
18:46 there's a Milwaukee broad house right
18:48 over there there's the oak
18:51 barrel and here is the signage for users
18:56 right there does not appear to be
18:59 open I can peek in the window and get a
19:01 little look here take a look oh here we
19:12 go do not think that they're open fine
19:12 sausage since
19:15 1880 sad trombone sad I'm not going to
19:19 try any of that famous
19:21 sausage founded in 1880 by Fred Usinger
19:27 original building hous an 1850s butcher
19:31 shop this is a neat little area down
19:33 here
19:35 right and here's the little Annex they
19:37 even they even outgrew their current
19:40 spot or had so much space they needed
19:44 they have a little anex there world
19:46 famous largest selection of Wisconsin
19:50 cheese here at the Wisconsin cheese
19:53 store you can even see there's a cow and
19:55 some cheese right there in the window
20:07 looked up a few places that were kind of
20:08 well known downtown for food in
20:11 Milwaukee and because of the day that it
20:14 is not a lot to open down here but there
20:18 is a Third Street Market Hall up
20:26 here if it's anything
20:26 like place in La they have like a L of
20:28 different food options so I'm assuming
20:30 that's what that is it looks like that's
20:33 open a lot of artwork around here too so
20:36 more artwork here in this little
20:38 Courtyard
20:40 area yeah Third Street Market Hall see
20:44 what kind of Provisions I can find in
20:52 here be nice to get out of the elements
20:52 again
20:58 too it is very mellow out here I'm I'm
20:58 sure it's because like not a lot of
20:59 people are at work today it is the
21:09 weekend oh okay I know where I'm at back
21:09 over here by the Warner again and
21:10 stepping inside looks like they have
21:12 rolled out the red carpet at the Third
21:14 Street Market Hall kind of go through
21:17 like it looks to be like an old shopping
21:19 center type of mall and going in they
21:21 did have a lot of really kind of unique
21:23 food options you know a lot of different
21:26 assortment of different things nothing
21:27 really really jumped out at me per se I
21:30 thought about eating in one or two of
21:31 the spots and I kind of changed my mind
21:32 and I was like oh maybe I'll get
21:33 something over here but there was one
21:35 really cool like retro toy place that
21:38 had a lot of uh kind of like fried
21:40 cheese curds and hot dogs and things
21:42 like that that was kind of neat yeah
21:44 kind of it was kind of like the place in
21:46 La that's right downtown near Angel's
21:48 flight I can't remember the name of it
21:49 but basically like that kind of that
21:51 kind of vibe where they have like a
21:52 bunch of different food options in one
21:54 place that is like localized you can get
21:56 the best of everything kind of in one
21:58 spot but again nothing really I wasn't
22:00 maybe I just wasn't in the mood to like
22:01 eat anything here yeah but really was
22:03 kind of to nice to get out of the
22:04 weather and walk around in
22:23 here just kind
22:23 of going Street by
22:26 street block by block
22:30 taking it all back that's talk about
22:32 Earth Crisis also I wonder if there's
22:34 any straight edge straight edge people
22:36 in milwauke this is a beer drinking
22:38 town but yeah I'm just going Street by
22:40 street again no real major game plan
22:43 this says the historic Third Ward is 2.5
22:46 blocks away and also the Mason Street
22:48 Landing is three blocks so I head that
22:50 way curious what the Third Street
22:53 historic Third Ward is
23:04 the seagulls
23:04 are circling around I think they're
23:06 arguing with each
23:24 other evidently there's a conglomeration
23:24 of deer around here yet to be in fear of
23:28 might be too cold for him to be out
23:29 though ooh insects up the side of this
23:32 building I like this
23:35 road this fog has not burned off and I
23:37 don't believe it's going to not warming
23:39 up at all little insects on the side of
23:42 this building the Milwaukee building
23:44 that's that's what that
23:51 says they're crawling up the up or down
23:51 the side there
24:00 that is an impressive building it looks
24:01 like the building in New York City where
24:04 John Lin and Yoko lived the seagull you
24:06 need to get out of the street seagull
24:08 you need to get out of that is a
24:10 gargantuan bird that seagull is
24:15 Big get out of the road seagull get out
24:18 of the road why' the chicken cross the
24:21 road get to the other side why did the
24:22 seagull cross the
24:24 road just because it was in Milwaukee
24:28 right down the middle strutting right
24:30 down the middle of the road I almost
24:32 said Main Street but this isn't Main
24:35 Street what you
24:37 doing what you doing
24:40 bird crushing some beer cans over here
24:42 you've been pounding them back wi having
24:44 a win and R
24:46 moment what are you looking for
24:49 bird what are you looking for all right
24:52 see you later
24:54 bird see you later
25:18 sights and
25:18 sounds of Milwaukee
25:43 it's a neat little
25:43 area another Public Market over here
25:47 it's got a rooster or chicken up on the
25:48 side of the
25:55 building this is the commission
25:55 house let's see the sign right on the
25:57 side of it
25:59 then you got some street bikes it is a
26:01 good thing that the wicked walkway is
26:04 open to the public you can walk right
26:05 through the middle of the wicked hop
26:07 restaurant you can go right through here
26:10 weekend brunch Bloody Mary a this is the
26:12 heart of the Third Ward that I'm walking
26:15 through at the moment the heater was on
26:19 too felt nice in there for a brief
26:22 moment this is the third ward don't know
26:25 what it is but I'm walking through it
26:43 road just a Broadway bird you're just a
26:45 Broadway
26:47 bird North Broadway bird you're a North
26:50 Broadway bird aren't
26:58 you yep talking to a bird this van has a
26:58 legacy that is not yet completed it is
27:01 hasn't it's
27:02 unfinished it has an
27:05 unfinished
27:07 Legacy so out
27:10 here look over if this may possibly a
27:13 railroad bridge or
27:15 former railroad bridge does not look
27:18 like an active bridge I guess I'm not
27:19 allowed to walk down there but this
27:21 little Courtyard here well not a
27:25 courtyard but a little Overlook if you
27:27 will
27:29 and you just look at that
27:31 Haze going across the water and it just
27:35 shows this is the the vibe of the river
27:38 right
27:39 now fog
27:49 Central kind of like it though kind of
27:49 like it I'm not
27:51 sweating and for that I'm happy another
27:54 day every day without sweat is a good
27:57 day
