0:03 today's adventure begins as a recording
0:03 of this Thursday June 8th 2023
0:07 there is some activity going down
0:10 over at the Water World stage
0:13 down at Universal Studios Hollywood it
0:16 is in the
0:17 kind of late afternoon the Park is open
0:20 until the evening hours which is kind of
0:22 rare because sometimes during the course
0:24 of the year when I'm out here
0:27 they're only open till six or seven but
0:30 today they're open till 10 so I'm going
0:31 to get a late night evening at Universal
0:34 Studios Hollywood I'm pretty excited
0:35 about it I'm gonna head down in a minute
0:36 while up here I'll kind of showcase the
0:38 valley a little bit
0:40 with Warner Brothers off in the distance
0:47 Griffith Park where I hiked the other
0:47 day
0:47 that direction and I should be able to
0:50 get a pretty good view of the seaplane
0:51 crash should have a flare go off
0:55 right about here up there's one and then
0:57 another one the other way
0:59 off the other way
1:01 yup my C plane okay look for the C plane
1:04 get ready
1:05 should be coming over that wall right
1:07 there
1:09 here goes
1:11 right about now
1:16 there it is
1:16 yes
1:24 oh
1:24 awesome I apologize for the pixelation
1:26 of how zoomed in this is but take a look
1:28 here he's on fire here goes the fire
1:30 dive
1:32 look at that
1:33 fire dive stunts
1:44 whole place lights up this is the way to
1:44 kick off a vlog
1:46 it's just a start
1:48 what a view from here
1:58 what a freaking view welcome everyone
1:58 Adam the woo here it is about 350 345
2:02 almost four opted not to bring my
2:04 sunglasses because soon the sun will be
2:06 setting
2:07 but now I'm thinking maybe I should have
2:09 brought him at least for a couple hours
2:10 nonetheless
2:11 I'm inviting you
2:12 to join me
2:14 as I go
2:15 for a little nighttime festivities a
2:17 rare occasion summer hours if you will
2:20 even though I think Summers is another
2:21 week or so away late spring early summer
2:23 hours Universal Studios Hollywood and
2:25 the tram tour at night
2:28 I have not done the tram tour at night
2:29 maybe ever with the exception of hhm
2:32 should be interesting inviting you to
2:34 join me but remember
2:37 do not feed
2:39 the fish
2:45 but I guess you probably could feed the
2:45 turtles
2:52 does the same thing about the turtles
2:52 Universal City
2:54 the walkway over also I forgot to point
2:56 this out but I am wearing quite an
2:58 appropriate t-shirt to ride the movie
3:01 era Universal Studios
3:04 one thing about getting here a little
3:06 bit later in the afternoon you don't
3:08 have the mad rush on the way in there's
3:10 plenty of views of the globe from this
3:13 direction take a look at this and the
3:15 red carpet now the wait times are pretty
3:17 busy in there that definitely having
3:19 some busy times this week but yeah look
3:21 at this there's a clear view here of the
3:24 globe and the archway nice and just like
3:26 that heading into water world and
3:29 meeting up hang out with a friend today
3:30 Daphne from the Daphne show is also here
3:33 and we're about to get preset you said
3:35 for Water World
3:37 oh my gosh VIP water roll treatment all
3:39 right that water has a tendency to
3:42 travel this way
3:50 back in a motivation
3:52 I'm so sorry about that
4:15 to work I feel like the so I feel like
4:18 that might have been for me
4:33 and there's a different View
4:33 level
4:36 getting a pretty good Overlook down here
4:37 you can even see Hill Valley you see the
4:39 courthouse Square down there
4:41 kind of that direction right about
4:49 there is the Clock Tower with a
4:49 lightning struck with the new sound
4:50 stages behind it which is kind of weird
4:52 now above the mummy attraction it used
4:54 to be the UT attraction which is on my
4:57 shirt here so you got E.T right here but
5:00 back in the day up until like a year ago
5:02 before they repainted the top of the
5:03 roof you could see where it's still a
5:05 said ET for like one of the
5:06 anniversaries of like a DVD or a VHS
5:09 release but now it's been repainted when
5:11 I was waiting for this ride to open
5:14 Jurassic world to reopen with the new
5:16 animatronics a few years ago I started
5:18 Living in Hollywood I remember I was
5:20 down here me and mondo from five fires
5:22 were like right here and there was an
5:24 earthquake there was an earthquake right
5:27 here yeah you're working upstairs at
5:29 Potter and there was a yeah so mono and
5:32 I were like right here next to these
5:33 rocks and uh yeah there was a quite the
5:37 I was like it felt like I was like here
5:39 and I could almost feel this like
5:41 leaning forward I was like whoa that
5:43 doesn't feel right that was working that
5:45 day and I was upstairs I
5:47 Wonder did you feel it yeah yeah the
5:49 whole like all
5:51 at one car upstairs like in front of the
5:53 castle they all rolled down the thing
5:55 like the display case
5:58 so it doesn't look like we're going to
5:59 be doing a night ride on Jurassic that'd
6:02 be kind of fun to have a splash down
6:03 after dark but
6:05 doesn't look like it's going to be
6:06 happening look how green the water is
6:07 maybe this year for Hornets they'll do
6:10 Jurassic world after dark for Horror
6:13 Nights yeah how they used to do Jurassic
6:14 Park after dark we go do Jurassic world
6:16 they did that for Horror Nights yeah
6:18 they used to do a Jurassic Park after
6:19 dark where everything was all shut off
6:23 everything was like real a lot darker
6:24 than normal all the
6:26 lights is in front of Panda Express the
6:28 top grossing film of 1982
6:36 it's like a teacher you
6:36 know I was thinking what if they change
6:37 this to Kung Fu Panda Express let's have
6:40 a also ordinary Ventures is here what do
6:43 you think of do you think Stephen is
6:45 super excited to have his plaque right
6:46 in front of him like you can never
6:48 remove this plaque
6:51 we know what happens when they remove
6:53 anything Spielberg he doesn't like that
6:55 you want to keep this I've never noticed
6:58 this before but you could actually see
6:59 the Hilton my hotel from right here
7:01 people from above Jurassic oh there's
7:04 blue the dinosaur over there blue is
7:07 over there looking wondering why the
7:09 Jurassic Park rides not operational at
7:11 the moment oh I think the sun is about
7:14 to start going down now it's kind of
7:15 glistening over here off of the going up
7:19 the let's go about to go with the second
7:21 set of the world's tallest theme park
7:24 escalators ever so we're gonna try to
7:27 get car four you can kind of see the sun
7:30 setting over there a little bit of the
7:31 Hue over there I don't think we're gonna
7:33 get on this one try to get the back row
7:35 all right we are going to be on number
7:37 three this one is pulling up right now
7:40 also these newer trams are all electric
7:43 trams so they're very very quiet not gas
7:47 powered good for the environment and
7:50 less fumes and very very quiet we're
7:54 going to have the last row on number
7:56 three of the new electric trams
7:58 nighttime
8:00 Edition
8:02 these are really really quiet
8:05 and Road Number Eight last row all the
8:09 way at the far end it's time
8:12 for a little duck
8:22 I will be your guy today since it's
8:22 getting dark this is the only time I
8:23 will be on camera today during the tour
8:25 so hello it looks a little scary in the
8:28 dark so I'm gonna turn that off
8:31 now watch your hands and feet as the
8:34 tram door is close if you don't yet have
8:36 a pair of 3D glasses give us a wave and
8:38 we'll get a pair right on over to you
8:42 on the tram today make sure that they
8:45 are seated
8:46 as opposed outer edges
8:50 now raise your hand if it is your first
8:52 time here on the Universal Studios tour
8:54 welcome welcome it's good to have you
8:56 you picked the perfect day I always
8:58 think the tour is a little bit more
9:00 exciting at night time oh yeah and who
9:02 is the here for the hundredth time raise
9:05 your hand
9:06 um
9:06 good to see you all again
9:16 and we are off
9:16 the studio away from the theme park now
9:19 mine I think there's actually a couple
9:20 more maybe there is gonna be one more
9:22 time
9:23 yeah
9:25 three to seven miles per hour through
9:28 the back lot more training technical
9:30 emergency or if you drop something of
9:32 value off the side of the trail or have
9:33 any sound or video issues reach up and
9:36 grab the record that runs along the
9:37 center of the ceiling of the trim and
9:39 I'll be back to assist you
9:40 as soon as it is safe to do so otherwise
9:43 during the entire tour please stay
9:45 seated and keep your arms and legs
9:46 inside the vehicle at all times remember
9:48 to use that red cord above your head if
9:50 you need any assistance the studio is
9:51 private property and if at any time
9:53 during the tour you drop your phone or
9:55 just can't wait to use the restroom pull
9:56 that cord and remain seated please no
9:58 smoking of any kind during the two
10:00 selfie sticks while on board thank you
10:02 so much now we are headed down our
10:05 timeline starting back in 1914 with
10:09 Damon and pythius Universal Pictures
10:11 first film take a look on either side of
10:13 the trim and keep your eyes out for your
10:15 favorite movies now these are just a
10:17 handful of the films made by Universal
10:20 Studios and my little chicken one of my
10:21 personal favorites I'm a big fan of
10:23 westerns is High Plains Drifter in 1973
10:26 starring Clint Eastwood
10:29 he was one of the most famous
10:31 gunslingers here in Hollywood he
10:33 actually started as a contract player
10:34 here at Universal Studios he was
10:37 bringing in a whopping 50 dollars per
10:40 week
10:50 that's a real photograph of the Moon
10:50 that is not CGI computer generated
10:52 imagery Steven Spielberg actually hired
10:54 a team of astronauts to scope out
10:56 different locations and track the moon
10:58 phases to get that perfect shot for the
11:01 poster
11:02 not out on the right Fire Station 51
11:04 that is a real working fire station that
11:07 is not a movie set now Carl Lemley when
11:10 he opened the doors to Universal Studios
11:12 he dreamed of building a city designed
11:14 for movie making and that's exactly what
11:16 we are we've got our very own fire
11:17 station our own Sheriff's Office our own
11:20 ZIP code and as any proper City should
11:23 have our very own Starbucks here on the
11:25 lot the only thing that we don't have
11:27 our residents because this is a city
11:29 from the path of Bel-Air themselves
11:32 whoa It's Apollo 13. and also on the
11:36 left you'll see NBC post now this is not
11:38 a post office this is actually even
11:40 though we do have a post office here on
11:42 the back lot this is actually post as in
11:45 post-production which is everything that
11:46 happens after you wrap on a set so
11:49 editing the film adding in Visual and
11:52 special effects or CGI computer
11:54 generated imagery or I'm in the score or
11:57 soundtrack to the movie that all happens
11:59 right there in that building
12:01 built before they are wheeled on over to
12:03 one of our front lot sound stages or to
12:06 our back Lots
12:08 and also on the left we've got our base
12:10 camp that's where cast and crew can grab
12:12 a coffee or a snack between takes and
12:15 get those cameras out folks we've got
12:16 our first celebrity sighting of the tour
12:18 that is Ted he is on the lot today
12:20 toasting us with the dirtiest Martini
12:23 I've ever seen he's celebrating his
12:25 newest show Ted coming to Peacock very
12:29 soon executive I guess the biggest names
12:31 in Hollywood do that right here in these
12:33 buildings this first one on the left
12:34 that is Dwayne The Rock Johnson's office
12:36 seven bucks Productions they did Jungle
12:38 Book Jumanji and the show Young Rock now
12:42 back in the day before these were turned
12:43 into office spaces these were actually
12:46 dressing rooms to some of the biggest
12:47 stars in Hollywood like Gregory Peck
12:49 Jimmy Stewart Lucille Ball but now they
12:52 are office spaces
12:54 now coming up on the left you'll see a
12:57 familiar silhouette on a bungalow 5195
13:00 that was Alfred Hitchcock's office when
13:02 he worked here on the universal back
13:04 line now that office space was actually
13:06 offered to Spielberg when he came to
13:08 work at Universal but he politely
13:10 declined saying that it was better
13:12 suited to be a museum or a shrine looks
13:15 as if we're going to be going back to
13:18 Courthouse Square
13:23 area over here which means it's
13:23 distracted
13:28 and I want to formally welcome you all
13:28 to our bath lot sets now our front lots
13:31 have our sound stages
13:40 Welcome to our Metropolitan sets now
13:40 many times when you see New York on
13:42 television or in a movie it's not
13:43 actually a shot in New York it's shot
13:45 right here in Studio City on the Metro
13:47 set back locks and I know he feels right
13:51 at home
13:57 has been a couple years since I've been
13:57 back to that's because these sets are
13:59 Courthouse Square or Hill Valley
14:01 purposes for whatever the production it
14:03 needs that day and so all of that would
14:06 be brought in by our props department
14:08 and then all of the foliage and street
14:10 signs would it be brought in by our
14:12 props Department in our greens
14:13 Department to really customize the looks
14:15 of the Metro sets if they didn't do that
14:17 you would see a lot of the same stores
14:19 and windows in every single television
14:21 show in every single movie so we really
14:23 want to customize it for the needs and
14:25 these sets are extremely versatile they
14:28 don't just play New York City this is
14:30 also where they host the reality
14:32 competition show American Ninja Warrior
14:35 they just shot the most recent season
14:38 here on the Metro sets earlier this year
14:40 and they only shoot at night they set up
14:44 the also of course going down this
14:45 street and those high flying athletes
14:47 will fly down these streets in the
14:49 middle of the night but they only start
14:50 shooting after the sun sets because they
14:53 want all of the competitors to have have
14:55 the same conditions they don't want one
14:56 person going in the middle of the day
14:58 when it's much hotter and one person
15:00 getting to go later in the day when it's
15:01 cooler so they want to keep things Fair
15:03 now here on the Metro sets too we can do
15:05 something called day to night filming
15:07 and so if you need to shoot a night
15:08 scene but cast and crew is only
15:10 available during the day we can actually
15:12 change the time of day that it is here
15:14 on the Metro sets by covering these
15:17 buildings with a giant tarp just another
15:19 way that we can manipulate these sets
15:21 and create a little bit of movie Magic
15:26 is you can go inside and then you can
15:27 look through the window but some of them
15:29 aren't some of them don't have four
15:31 walls and a ceiling and those are what
15:33 we call facades which is French for
15:35 false front so those buildings might
15:37 have a front maybe a side but you can't
15:40 really go inside with them and so any
15:42 interior scenes when a character enters
15:44 the building those would be
15:46 shot over on the front lot in one of the
15:49 sound stages
15:51 okay but now we are headed out of the
15:54 concrete jungle and headed to the real
15:56 jungle more specifically we're headed up
15:58 to Skull Island let's hear from Peter
16:01 Jackson as we move in to make sure to
16:03 remain seated and Hold On Tight To those
16:06 magic wands and that giant Donuts it's
16:08 gonna be a bit of a bumpy ride
16:36 this old school absolute Bridge the tram
16:36 needs to go across there but now it's
16:38 not now they have the train that
16:40 Hitchcock is stood in front of in those
16:41 old commercials we talked a little bit
16:43 earlier about how Alfred Hitchcock
16:45 always liked to make cameos in his films
16:47 Peter Jackson and the WETA effects team
16:50 also enjoyed making a cameo in marriage
16:53 films
16:54 Studio Tour tram that gets pulled onto
16:57 the screen on Skull Island
16:59 it's actually Peter Jackson Peter
17:01 Jackson's family and the wet effects
17:03 team aboard that studio tour tram in
17:06 their own Cameo on Skull Island
17:13 gets pulled on we're all the way back to
17:13 the Stone Age right here we've got Fred
17:15 Flintstone and a Barney rubble's cars
17:18 parked right over there to the left
17:21 they can even take us to the Wizarding
17:23 World of Harry Potter that is one of the
17:25 17 and a half Ford anglias used in Harry
17:28 Potter and the Chamber of Secrets the
17:30 half was so that the camera crew could
17:32 get right up close to Ron and Harry for
17:34 their close-up shots now I want you to
17:37 take a look to your left we've got our
17:39 first picture boat that is the crawdaddy
17:42 from Jordan peels us
17:44 and when you see this tank from the
17:46 Transformers take an extra close look at
17:48 that tank it is not made out of metal
17:50 it's actually made out of plywood and
17:52 that Barrel that's just a PVC pipe yes
17:55 the exact same PVC pipe that you could
17:57 buy at Home Depot a little bit of movie
17:59 Magic for you right there much easier to
18:02 bring that PVC pipe and a bunch of
18:03 plywood to and from set every day than
18:06 actually carrying multiple tons of metal
18:08 by using a real tank also much easier to
18:11 blow that one up
18:13 now also on the right take a look you'll
18:15 see another famous picture car that is
18:17 one of the Jeeps from Jurassic world
18:19 welcoming us to Jurassic Park here at
18:22 Universal Studios Jurassic Park is one
18:25 of our most well-known films
18:26 internationally Jurassic world starring
18:29 Chris Pratt is our highest grossing film
18:31 to date
18:33 now we like to keep some dinosaurs in
18:35 cages for you all to see on the studio
18:37 tour for this very reason now these
18:40 cages just like that tank where the
18:41 Transformers are also made out of
18:44 plywood
18:45 and on second thought they probably
18:47 should have made them out of metal
18:48 because it looks like the dinosaurs have
18:51 escaped don't worry they're friendly
18:53 they just want to say hi but they have
18:55 gone out again
19:01 Jurassic Park if it wasn't for the
19:01 dinosaurs but we also wouldn't Jurassic
19:04 Park if it wasn't for the weather if it
19:06 wasn't for the hurricane that trapped
19:08 the Jurassic Park gang onto the island
19:09 in the first movie we wouldn't have any
19:11 of this but it can be pretty hard to get
19:14 weather to hit its Mark here in sunny
19:16 Southern California so as we turn the
19:19 corner and roll into our Old Mexico set
19:21 so I'm going to show you just how we
19:23 make it rain here in Hollywood because
19:26 our favorite films wouldn't be the same
19:28 without a little rain Ali and Noah's
19:30 kiss in the notebook the end of
19:32 Shawshank Redemption our Hollywood
19:33 classic so take a look around at our Old
19:36 Mexico set these are very versatile
19:38 these were using Big Fat Liar Nacho
19:41 Libre starring Jack Black also planted
19:44 Boston from the Paramount plus showed
19:46 Picard all filmed right here in Old
19:48 Mexico
19:53 now that Thunder you hear that's coming
19:53 from speakers that are hidden among the
19:55 trees and yeah
19:57 you see those are strobe lights on top
20:00 of these buildings here in Old Mexico
20:08 and that rain that's coming from a
20:08 sprinkler system shooting water up into
20:10 the air and falling back down to Earth
20:13 but no need to get those problems just
20:15 look really cool at night just a light
20:17 little drizzle now these raindrops are
20:19 about two times larger than normal
20:21 raindrops would be out in the world
20:23 that's to make sure that they do show
20:25 camera
20:26 if this was a hot set if the cameras
20:28 were rolling we probably wouldn't hear
20:30 that Thunder that would be added in
20:31 post-production because we wouldn't want
20:33 that to interfere with the actors line
20:35 delivery but we have it here on the
20:37 studio tour today for the full effect of
20:40 this stormy stormy night and I spoke too
20:43 soon put those ponchos on part two
20:45 because we have a flash flood coming in
20:46 and you are in the Splash Zone
21:07 our flash flood was used in the movie
21:07 Big Fat Liar starring Paul giamani
21:09 Amanda Bynes and Frankie Muniz foreign
21:22 that right there folks that is his stunt
21:22 double
21:22 but Lady Gaga she used our flash flood
21:25 in her music video Judas and she did all
21:28 of her own stunts and she did them in
21:30 heels
21:31 and now we're passing Down Denver Street
21:33 this is the sum of our Western sets here
21:36 on the universal back lot many iconic
21:39 Productions have filmed here some
21:41 Classics like The Virginian and
21:43 Winchester 73. now he wouldn't have
21:46 westerns if it wasn't for some good
21:48 stunts so take a look up at yours and
21:50 many of our most iconic Monsters of all
21:53 time think Frankenstein Dracula The Wolf
21:56 Man The Mummy the Invisible Man they
21:59 were all born right here in little
22:01 Europe
22:03 on your right as we round this corner
22:05 this is where all of those iconic
22:07 monster movies were shot and it
22:10 definitely has kind of an ominous feel
22:12 at night time this was also the setting
22:15 of The Good Place starring Kristen Bell
22:17 check it out on your screen it's reading
22:20 that yogurt shop we're about to pass
22:22 that set piece on your left in just a
22:25 moment the props Department came in and
22:27 added those chairs tables and umbrellas
22:29 greens Department came in and out of
22:31 those flowers but as you'll see over on
22:34 the left folks that building structure
22:35 looks pretty much the same as it did in
22:37 the show
22:39 now these sets are very versatile they
22:42 don't just play Europe This is Egypt
22:44 from The Mummy this is also the
22:46 fictional country of Genovia from The
22:48 Princess Diaries and princess diaries
22:50 two starring Anne Hathaway and Julie
22:52 Andrews one of my personal favorites and
22:55 this Courtyard over on the right this is
22:57 our court of Miracles this was
22:59 transformed into 50
23:03 .
23:03 starring Lon Chaney which is celebrating
23:05 its 100th animal history this year and
23:08 get those cameras out it looks like we
23:10 have another celebrity here in little
23:12 Europe it's kind of late for the
23:14 Invisible Man to be out and walking
23:16 around the back lot
23:23 they got me because I definitely do he's
23:23 right there the Invisible Man now
23:25 Monsters of us here at Universal let's
23:28 hear what some of our iconic directors
23:30 have to say about the importance of the
23:33 monster now the monster movies
23:34 Frankenstein and Dracula The Originals
23:36 both came out in 1931 during the height
23:39 of the greatest surprise for a million
23:42 dollars at the box office
23:47 you would have not been able to see
23:47 Frankenstein in theaters it was banned
23:50 in the state for being too terrifying
23:54 now I do want to let you all know that
23:57 we're approximately at the halfway mark
23:59 of our tour and so please do remain
24:02 seated during the entire tour the studio
24:04 is private property and if you drop your
24:06 phone or just can't wait to use the
24:07 restroom pull that red cord to get my
24:09 attention but do remain seated and I'll
24:11 be back to assist you as soon as it is
24:13 safe to do so
24:24 all right we have an E chord pull
24:24 would you please pull the cord again if
24:27 this is a medical emergency
24:32 would you pull the cord again if this is
24:32 bathroom
24:39 all right we will call and get someone
24:39 headed over in just a moment and then we
24:42 will be on our way and we'll get you
24:44 never had the tram stop somebody's got
24:46 to use the facilities
24:55 today right here and a board on it now
24:55 that's not a barn for animals that's
24:57 actually where our NBC News team stores
25:00 their equipment when they are not on
25:02 location
25:07 now as we take a look and we're parked
25:07 here in our Western set area let's take
25:09 a look at some iconic western films that
25:12 were shot here at Universal now our
25:14 Universal Western sets more movies have
25:16 been shot right here than anywhere else
25:19 in the entire world yes because back in
25:22 the day there were six distinct streets
25:24 that went off our main Western street
25:26 called six points and each Street was
25:28 complete with its very own bank it's a
25:31 very own Sheriff's Office and of course
25:32 its very own Saloon and so back in the
25:34 day of silent film they could actually
25:36 film not one not two but six westerns
25:40 all at the same time over there and Six
25:42 Points Texas and so anytime you have to
25:45 run a bad guy out of town he just had to
25:47 turn the corner and he was in the next
25:48 town sound it didn't matter if people
25:51 were yelling on set and it really kind
25:53 of jazzed up the performers as well now
25:55 we can't do that anymore really on the
25:57 western sets because movies have sound
26:00 now but they still do have live studio
26:02 audiences here at Universal Studios for
26:05 example the voice is filmed right over
26:07 there on soundstage 30. has a live
26:08 studio audience for every single episode
26:10 so take a look up on your screen you'll
26:12 see some of our famous Western Stars on
26:15 our Western sets
26:33 but now we are taking a plane ride
26:33 across the country we're headed out of
26:36 the old west and all the way over to New
26:38 England more specifically to Amity
26:41 Island the quiet little New England town
26:44 which was the setting for Steven
26:46 Spielberg's 19 and 75 Club you got to
26:49 use the restroom just pull the cord it's
26:51 a point little it will take you in a
26:53 truck but I hear they do have a little
26:55 bit of a shark good it looks like
26:57 they've already caught the shark tonight
26:59 so just enjoy the peace and quiet put
27:01 your feet up enjoy the beauty of Amity
27:04 Island at night time yeah love this at
27:07 night it's true this is like twice as
27:12 good at night as they're in the dark to
27:13 be honest my goodness there's a shark
27:17 over there in the water over here there
27:19 is another shark in the water oh good
27:22 though
27:24 he is on it so we have nothing to fear
27:27 folks he sure has guts to be out there
27:29 in these shark infested waters tonight
27:32 oh no and there they are poor George
27:52 you got it
27:52 real and so he experimented with a lot
27:54 of different materials and mechanisms to
27:56 get the shark to work
27:58 some of them work better than others and
28:01 to this day one of Spielberg sharks is
28:03 still somewhere on the bottom of the
28:05 Atlantic Ocean
28:11 problems cause significant delays in the
28:12 product
28:13 it's also supposed to hit theaters it
28:15 didn't really come out in these
28:17 summertime and so they really had no
28:19 choice with this one though because it
28:20 wasn't ready until the summer and so
28:22 they just let it out and it was a teeth
28:25 smashing success and so every summer
28:28 blocked us or after Jaws jaws was the
28:31 Trailblazer we wouldn't have the summer
28:33 Blockbusters that we know and love today
28:34 if it wasn't for all of those issues on
28:37 set so talk about a silver lining or
28:39 maybe just maybe a great white lining
28:42 chicken ranch isn't lit up here on the
28:44 right that is our chicken ranch that is
28:46 a practical scent meaning that you can
28:48 film both on the inside and the outside
28:50 it was built inside our soundstage 12
28:53 for the 1982 musical comedy The Best
28:55 Little Whorehouse in Texas starring
28:57 Dolly Parton subsequently it has been
29:00 used in countless other Productions take
29:02 a look at just a handful of them up on
29:04 your screen
29:14 Colonial Street this yellow house up on
29:14 the left that is Davey's house from the
29:16 Netflix show never have I ever from
29:18 Mindy Kaling starring my tree
29:20 ramakrishnan in her breakout role now if
29:23 we've got any team Paxton people on the
29:26 tram tonight I am right there with you
29:28 now take a look around many of our
29:30 guests still recognize this street as
29:32 Wisteria Lane from The Desperate
29:34 Housewives this is one of our most
29:37 heavily used areas of the back lot
29:39 countless commercials television shows
29:42 and of course movies have been shot
29:44 right here on Colonial Street take a
29:47 look up at your screen this is just the
29:48 tip of the iceberg of what has been shot
29:50 right here where we are driving now
29:53 there are many advantages to filming
29:55 here on Colonial Street rather than in a
29:58 real neighborhood
30:01 you probably wouldn't love it if there
30:03 was a hair and makeup trailer blocking
30:06 your driveway when you're trying to get
30:07 out of the house in the morning here on
30:09 Colonial street we have access to all of
30:12 Universal Studios amenities
30:14 also many of these houses they are
30:16 practical steps and you kind of see
30:18 through the windows in the dark right
30:19 now which means that you can yes you can
30:22 film on the inside and the outside of
30:25 the house I'm not sure exactly where the
30:27 name practical set came from but it's
30:29 easy to remember because it is practical
30:31 if it's a facade you have to drive all
30:34 the way from the back lots of the front
30:35 lock to shoot interior seams but if it's
30:38 a practical set you don't have to go
30:39 anywhere so it's very practical very
30:41 convenient
30:45 we are approximately 15 minutes from the
30:48 end of our tour and we'll be returning
30:51 to the theme park shortly remember to
30:53 pull that emergency cord if you need
30:54 assistance but please remain seated at
30:56 all times thank you
30:59 now we're driving down Wilderness Road
31:01 look to your left look to your right
31:03 you'll see a whole lot of nothing but
31:05 this can be very convenient for more
31:07 Productions that want to film really
31:08 right Outdoors this is where Bird Box
31:10 starring Sandra Bullock was shot also an
31:12 episode of 911 where they flip a
31:14 limousine off of an Old Country Road
31:17 that happened right here on this
31:19 intersection coming up on your right we
31:20 have even more Universal picture cars
31:24 starting with Mr Bean's adorable green
31:27 Mini Cooper that yellow car parked in
31:30 front of it that is Bumblebee from the
31:32 Transformers and this old-timey car with
31:35 a wagon in the back that's from one of
31:37 my personal favorites that's from Oh
31:38 Brother Where Art Thou the Coen Brothers
31:40 movie starring George Clooney it's kind
31:42 of like the Western adaptation of
31:44 Homer's Odyssey now many of these cars
31:47 have raced down the freeway at Lightning
31:50 Fast speeds but right now we're taking a
31:53 turn off a main road
31:55 to a quiet little motel with 12 rooms
32:00 and a 12 vacancies welcome to the Bates
32:03 Motel from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho now
32:07 we have another famous picture car
32:08 parked out front that white Ford Sedan
32:11 1957 that was Marion Crane's car in
32:14 Psycho but that exact same car that was
32:17 the family car in the show Leave it to
32:20 Beaver which was shot in the same year
32:23 now Leave it to Beaver and psycho have
32:25 another interesting connection now
32:26 psycho was the first movie to show a
32:30 flushing toilet on screen Leave it to
32:32 Beaver well that was the first TV show
32:35 up on the left too this is the psycho
32:37 house this is the original home used in
32:40 Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 Thriller psycho
32:43 now when they built this they only have
32:45 this side that we're looking at now and
32:47 the front constructed but we have added
32:49 the other two sides to our permanent
32:52 installation here on the back block
32:55 again this guide is like the best
32:57 items but now we're driving away from
32:59 one of our oldest sets we're headed into
33:02 one of our largest welcome to Steven
33:05 Spielberg's War of the Worlds
33:08 wow it's Mother's in there a million
33:11 dollars he got this one for sixty
33:13 thousand but it did cost him about 200
33:16 Grand to ship it here to Universal and
33:19 so they always get you with that
33:20 shipping and handling what can I say
33:22 they had to chop the plane into four
33:25 pieces to transport it here to make sure
33:27 that it fit under those Highway
33:29 overpasses
33:31 and now coming up on your right take a
33:34 look we are passing by Jupiter's claim
33:37 these are the original sets from Jordan
33:40 Peel's most recent feature film nope
33:43 which were shot up in Santa Clarita but
33:46 we transported all of these sets down
33:49 here to the universal lot to be a
33:51 permanent installation
33:54 now we've spent the past hour learning
33:56 all about how movies are made
33:58 and I think you all are pretty much
34:00 experts at this point and so in just a
34:02 few moments we're going to put you all
34:04 front and center inside of your very own
34:07 movie more specifically Fast and Furious
34:10 supercharged now if you haven't seen it
34:12 yet the next Fast and Furious film fast
34:15 X is now in theaters
34:18 so definitely check that one out
34:33 headed back to the theme park here at
34:33 Universal Studios we have been making
34:35 audiences laugh cry and sit at the edge
34:37 of their seat for over a hundred years
34:40 and there are thousands of people here
34:42 in Hollywood who work day and night to
34:44 bring our favorites again and again and
34:47 again and make sure you have the
34:49 Universal Studios Hollywood app download
34:50 it on your phone to get wait times for
34:52 rides and additional details on how you
34:55 can visit Super Nintendo World and if
34:58 you'd like to purchase or view any of
34:59 the films that we saw on the tour today
35:01 visit
35:07 www.uphe.com or visit any of our retail
35:07 stores here at Universal Studios
35:15 once again thank you so much for joining
35:15 us here on the evening Tour on the world
35:18 famous Universal Studios Hollywood tour
35:20 and as we say in Hollywood that is a rap
35:25 folks come again soon
35:31 all right over at the Overlook now
35:31 and looking into Super Nintendo World
35:34 off in the distance there's a little
35:36 go-kart going by and I go cart but a
35:37 golf cart going by down there the valley
35:40 all illuminated
35:42 and I think I gotta call it an eve that
35:45 was a really good Tram Tour I did a lot
35:47 of tram tours in my day at Universal
35:49 probably been on the tram tour 100 times
35:52 that was probably one of my all-time
35:54 favorite regular not a VIP just a
35:57 regular guest experience Tram Tour yeah
35:59 that was really good it was awesome we
36:02 got to see so much granted there was no
36:04 filming going on back there so we were
36:05 we went back to Colonial went to Hill
36:07 Valley Courthouse Square the city
36:09 streets and all that so that had a lot
36:11 to do with it as well but the guide was
36:13 great yeah Erica was amazing she was so
36:16 good she's a really good guy a lot of
36:18 little facts and figures that a lot of
36:20 the other guys say but she added in kind
36:22 of her own things even a couple times I
36:23 was like I never even knew that so that
36:25 was that was cool because I've done it
36:26 so many times sometimes you just get to
36:28 use to the same Spiel just to change it
36:30 up quite a bit Yeah weather was great
36:32 and it was cool seeing some of the sets
36:34 under the shroud of Nightfall and the
36:37 Ambiance was definitely a lot more thick
36:39 I would highly recommend
36:41 when the tram runs late that late to do
36:43 the late night Ram tour highly recommend
36:45 it it does yeah so like it closed it
36:47 said last train was at 8 15 and we got
36:49 in right before eight so it seemed to
36:51 work out perfect yeah it was nice and
36:53 dark by the end pretty awesome all right
36:55 that's gonna do it for today check out
36:56 the Daphne show she's also going to film
36:58 up she also filmed a video she'll have
37:00 on her Channel
37:01 and I'll see you in the next video the
37:02 Vlog
37:03 it's over
