Back To The Future Celebration : Inside Doc Brown's Mansion / Gamble House
An amazing day at the Gamble House in Pasadena California. I was one of 1000+ people who showed up to visit Doc Browns free open house . A time machine delorean was on hand as well as Marty's truck and plenty of additional fun .

welcome everyone Adam Izuru here coming
0:04
to you from Pasadena California and
0:06
behind these gates is the historic
0:09
gamble house used as a filming location
0:11
in my all-time favorite movie ever back
0:16
to the future and today luck would have
0:20
it they are doing a themed event around
0:24
said experience Back to the Future
0:30
themed event heck yeah join me shall you
0:37
it just so happens they are letting
0:40
everyone indoors today for free hence
0:43
the very lengthy line now there were no
0:47
scenes filmed indoors but everyone's
0:49
always curious what does the gamble
0:52
house aka doctrine look like inside I
0:58
think we might find out it would not be
1:01
a properly themed event if there was not
1:04
one of these classic DeLoreans on hand
1:08
sitting in front of the now bookstore
1:11
which was the garage where Christopher
1:14
Lloyd ran down the hill they have
1:16
erected a badminton set but check this
1:20
out there is a LEGO version of the
1:24
property right there look now full of
1:27
lots and lots of reading material it's a
1:31
gift shop that sells not only books but
1:35
t-shirts and a variety of other things
1:38
and for today they have some comic books
1:40
here who is Marty McFly oh look at this
1:44
okay Emmett Brown himself that's a
1:46
puzzle right there look there's like a
1:48
little there's an elk there's an elk in
1:50
there it's like a hidden elk there's a
1:53
more of an animated cartoon version the
1:56
cold you can get the gamble house goes
1:59
back to the future gamble house org this
2:02
is like a blanket these are become very
2:04
popular of late these
2:07
these pop movie figures the Funko pops
2:16
prop master on better futures last time
2:16
I was here was when he shot the movie
2:18
there's a bit of a misnomer we did not
2:20
shoot inside the garage here we did
2:22
duplicate it on the stage the exterior
2:25
and the interior as far as the inside a
2:27
lot of people don't know we did shoot
2:29
inside the house all the shots of DOC in
2:31
the house with Marty and Einstein were
2:34
actually shot in the house it's very
2:36
dark woods more than normal seems to be
2:43
a little discrepancy on whether or not
2:45
they actually use the interiors of this
2:49
location in the movie I've always heard
2:52
it was a different house miles away that
2:55
they use the insides for I guess we
2:58
won't officially know until we go inside
3:01
as I've been wandering around the line
3:03
is getting much longer it would probably
3:06
be wise for me to go ahead and procure a
3:09
spot in that because it is very lengthy
3:13
oh yeah license plate stating out of
3:17
time oh yeah this is where the plutonium
3:19
chamber will stick the plutonium down in
3:22
there the part to hoverboard yeah
3:25
there's a hoverboard
3:26
wedge down in there and the driver's
3:30
seat Wow look at this the Toyota
3:33
Marty's truck there's not just one of
3:36
them there's two of them
3:39
that's this is gonna call some kind of
3:41
riff in the space-time continuum the one
3:44
in front is all decked out looking the
3:47
windshield there they have that the hot
3:49
wheels as well as the you're fired
3:52
and the Almanac in lulala lulala
3:56
lutonium case chamber a JVC old-school
4:01
VHS recorder even the skateboard and the
4:06
Nikes
4:07
oh nice if you put your mind to it you
4:12
can accomplish anything da da da da da
4:15
da da da da there is
4:26
of a lot of people here it's getting
4:26
it's growing her line is growing that
4:28
javea the paper here stating that Emmett
4:31
Brown has been commended not committed
4:33
but commended look mayor Wilson vetoes a
4:37
zoning bill how I got the name people
4:39
ask we just got back from a European
4:41
tour for the micro Fox foundation but
4:43
part of that we raise money for one
4:45
hundred percent of all a team Fox
4:46
donations go to research but how I got
4:49
dangers Bob people asked all over Europe
4:51
for the months were there and when we'd
4:54
get behind on the first back the future
4:55
Bob Zemeckis would have me sit down next
4:57
to him and while we were lighting and I
4:59
have my prop set he'd asked me stories
5:01
about the 60s and when I was a roadie
5:03
with a Grateful Dead and the Jefferson
5:05
Airplane and I'd tell him some stories
5:07
that just seemed kind of normal to me
5:08
and apparently they worked with a lot of
5:11
people and he tells Stephen at night at
5:12
dailies about or the next day of daily
5:14
is about his set prop master and he goes
5:17
that guy's dangerous
5:18
no he just did stuff in the sixties you
5:22
may not be real proud of it just born it
5:24
was a way of life then you know and even
5:26
though you worked on the first film you
5:28
also left your mark in the film itself
5:31
somewhere that's correct
5:32
so what happened was he came down to the
5:34
set one day Stephen we all thought we
5:36
were behind or someone made a mistake in
5:38
the other Robert Witten here and I go
5:40
that's me and he lets get down on one
5:42
knee and ignited me dangerous Bob said
5:44
that'll be your screen credit from now
5:46
on and a couple weeks later we're
5:47
shooting the high school which by the
5:49
way is Richard Nixon's high school or
5:51
Marty went the only thing I can and I
5:53
got to spray dangers Bob right on the
5:55
side of the high school you'll see as
5:56
Michael walks up Marty so you can look
5:59
for it in the film when he walks in the
6:00
school Brown's laboratory board I'm
6:04
gonna look for it okay come on find it
6:34
how long have you waiting outside for
6:36
since 10:00 a.m. that's not too bad
6:39
but there's like hundreds of people in
6:41
line that they're actually really but if
6:48
the Sun sometimes during the day shines
6:50
on through them you'll see that they're
6:52
red so it's kind of interesting is that
6:54
the things totally changed much this is
6:56
kind of an interesting room because it
6:57
has a different character the living
6:59
room was a big warm inviting perspective
7:01
this is the back patio this is the
7:08
dining room is the fireplace over there
7:10
of course if you watch the movie Marty
7:13
would I Ram to the left of the fireplace
7:15
in Iran and so obviously the movie was
7:18
not filmed in here or the door here
7:21
would be closer closer to the fireplace
7:26
nothing was filmed inside being in it's
7:29
a house museum we don't let anything be
7:31
filmed inside all the photos here and
7:33
who are the people in the photos David
7:36
and Mary gamba the original owners on
7:38
your left okay
7:39
Cecil and Louise his eldest son and his
7:42
wife that are the second people to have
7:45
it so this is where this is the room the
7:47
gamble slept on yes
7:49
and Mary's bedroom and then see some
7:51
weeds slept here as well Cecil was the
7:54
eldest son David and Maria now was any
7:57
of the interiors from the film shot
7:59
inside here were actually had another
8:03
house another fact it was the black
8:06
house so contrary to the difference of
8:08
opinion on the internet whether or not
8:10
the scenes from back to future one we're
8:12
in here 100% certainty because I'm the
8:15
guy that actually freezed does the
8:17
freeze frame trans my wife crazy
8:19
absolutely crazy that the interiors were
8:21
not shot here and you can actually match
8:24
the actual scenes get to the rooms in
8:27
the black house
8:28
okay the more pants deco now number
8:31
three though they gotta remember number
8:32
three it was shot on the second
8:34
soundstage for number three yes this is
8:37
aunt Julia's room and that is oh okay
8:39
Julia oh she is right there yeah she was
8:41
the UH night sister of Mary gamble and
8:45
so a tradition of 1900 says oh one who
8:46
would stay with a family member until he
8:48
got married
8:48
well she never got married so she always
8:51
stayed with oh and this is called what
9:00
was that's it it's a it's a the backyard
9:03
terrace and the backyard terrace is
9:05
composed of clinker break which is that
9:08
brick clinker brick under Scylla into
9:10
Earth okay and Arroyo stone which is the
9:14
big boulders and the greens love to use
9:17
that material can we use my favorite of
9:20
the two architects and his engineering
9:23
ability shows
9:25
this is how they go together that
9:28
instead of staple building two long
9:31
pieces of wood together isn't so
9:34
beautiful stately and this is the
9:36
solution to that how they joined wood it
9:39
was very cool
9:40
I joined the two pieces together bit
9:42
Spanish did this with galleons ships
9:45
right up there see the way to join the
9:47
wood is the old-school way about like
9:53
extending Timbers together looking out
9:56
the window you can still guess you could
9:58
still say help me to guess they're out
10:00
there were you expecting this many
10:02
people today we usually get people that
10:06
are waiting at the end of line rental
10:07
wait about two hours the goals that
10:09
goodness they got it but it's gonna be
10:10
worth they got to be in it for the long
10:12
haul I think they're like I think I
10:14
think that way yeah I think so they seem
10:16
dedicated yeah and that DeLorean is the
10:19
secret door is that oh wow that goes
10:26
into the kitchen and then downstairs
10:28
into the basement and originally these
10:31
doors operated electrically
10:37
I would I would have never known that
10:38
was there if he wouldn't have opened it
10:40
yes do it
10:51
it's a third 20 groups of 20
11:00
this is where a stack was whenever they
11:00
okay
11:01
staff and this leads down to the
11:03
basement basement yes there's another
11:12
shot of the area lengthy line out there
11:28
check out that she got the little socks
11:28
they have to put on the feet
11:30
keeps the carpet cleaner thanks doc I
11:33
was wondering if you're gonna be here
11:34
well wonderings turned out to be right
11:38
what do you think of all these people
11:39
that are here oh no ugh there's many
11:41
people at my house I'm kind of a clean
11:43
frame aside from all the mess in the
11:45
laboratory well it's okay I'll open my
11:48
doors and I want everyone to get a look
11:50
dr. Mandel Browns pops what do you think
11:54
take a picture with you of pause
11:58
earlier you had to pick this newspaper
12:01
I'm standing in 1955 some sort of time
12:06
war it's 1640 Riverside Drive also known
12:10
as dr. Brown's oh sure at all what's
12:13
going on up in here
12:15
all going on in there well now's your
12:17
opportunity thank you my friends I'll
12:21
see you in the future thanks Scott
12:23
this is dr. Peter Brown and you're
12:25
watching Back to the Future calm what's
12:32
up there
12:41
like ours quick update the line is not
12:41
getting any shorter the front of the
12:44
museum is way up there you can see
12:48
stretches all the way back that
12:53
direction around the shrubs and trees
12:56
and - there was not expecting it to go
13:01
all the way around that corner as well
13:05
Wow
13:07
there it is the end of the line
13:08
currently and I find it kind of humorous
13:12
that the back of it is on Scotch Street
13:18
great Scotty would like to keep the
13:26
tower exactly the way it is to revert to
13:28
preserve our history and heritage there
13:31
you go lady there's a quarter quite the
13:34
congregation of people are flocking
13:36
around to DeLorean
13:41
people love it I don't blame them I do
13:44
too daunted at a time
13:49
Joe Walzer and we are at the gamble
13:53
house working the gamble house to to
13:57
bring a little back to the future to an
13:59
event that they have every year
14:01
Moda museums of the Arroyo we're one day
14:06
out of the year there they give free
14:08
tours of the grounds mansion and this
14:12
year they asked me to back to the future
14:15
it up a little bit and since that's what
14:17
I do that's what I did
14:19
so we have I think probably the biggest
14:23
turnout that the gamble house has ever
14:25
seen my partner Mike Webster in and I
14:28
classroom is of course the author of
14:57
all time so far yeah oh yeah it is next
14:57
to the wishing well there's the letter
14:59
that Marty wasted op saying you're gonna
15:01
be shot in 18min 1985 he's a storyboard
15:04
this was for a scene that was never shot
15:07
the original ending of the first Back to
15:10
the Future with the nuclear with a
15:11
nuclear blast anything you want to know
15:13
about back to the future can be found in
15:15
that book what did you do on part two
15:25
and three
15:26
I was the publicist sorry I was there
15:29
every day of shooting and then there's
15:31
the matter of cameo in person after the
15:36
hill Valley Dance Festival the morning
15:38
after when marty is walking down the
15:40
street in the morning the first guy
15:43
passing morning mr. Eastwood disappear
15:48
into history and now you live on and
15:51
infamy I part 3 Joe was also the
15:57
producer and was featured and helped
16:00
restore the a car that used to be on the
16:03
universal back lot and they have made a
16:06
documentary by the name of I like that
16:10
you have the 3d glasses on you're like
16:11
you're channeling part of bifs gang hi
16:14
I'm Lenny I'm 1.21 gigawatts
16:17
I brought my DeLorean time machine part
16:19
one from
16:20
future here at the gamble house which is
16:22
the exact place where dr. Brown will
16:24
work on the car and it's right here on
16:26
display people can look but they can't
16:28
touch so don't get too close look with
16:31
your eyes not with your hands is what
16:32
you're saying that's right yeah and it
16:34
spoils it if people start touching it
16:36
and taking parts off and I can't do this
16:38
yeah I noticed you have part one so you
16:40
don't have mr. fusion you have the
16:42
plutonium chamber right and I also have
16:43
the lightning rod it's in the trunk
16:45
hello put out today for the lightning
16:47
rod to go in the back to the 2019 25
17:02
1955 look at all this technology around
17:05
this are you sure it's 1955 excited say
17:10
like 1955 look at all this technology
17:13
that's me I get a little overwhelmed
17:16
yeah I'm sure it is just a good day with
17:20
back to the future friends and fans cool
17:24
he's behind you
17:31
thank you so much that's your house this
17:31
is so cool what's going on in the
17:34
laboratory well I have somewhat of a
17:37
mind experiment I put this giant thing
17:40
on your cranium and I would read your
17:42
thoughts well let's do that
17:44
okay there's even a line formulating to
17:48
meet Dean Cundy they know he was gonna
17:51
be here but he showed up and there is an
17:53
impromptu queue line now for people to
17:56
get pictures and his autograph check
17:59
this out for $400 so you can buy a
18:02
reproduction of Marty's skateboard look
18:05
at this this is awesome - Val Tara
18:07
you'll see that too often I'm now
18:09
getting a book signed by Jeff Tucker he
18:11
wrote your friend in time and look at
18:13
this this is him sneaking down on the
18:16
universal lot to the cafe 80s Hill
18:18
Valley from part two right before it
18:21
burned down hand that is awesome he
18:23
wrote this book and he's he's gifting it
18:26
to me thanks thanks so much man fifteen
18:31
Oh Mike in here you just you just you're
18:34
just putting it all out there you're
18:35
just just showing the activity here sure
18:37
right now this is all covered up now
18:39
yeah mm-hmm that's what those are still
18:40
there behind the new facade and then
18:42
this is in Lou's cafe inside there which
18:45
turned out what year did it burn down 89
18:47
1989 this would have been 80s early 87
18:52
that's some that's some good photos that
18:54
yeah I'm jealous that's from this set of
18:57
family ties ice knives as well Justine
19:00
Bateman that's amazing this is um that
19:02
was hanging on the refrigerator Wow
19:05
there's the premier freeze oh yeah Sam
19:08
Equis yeah and there's Bob Gale back
19:10
there Wow and you're in the full outfit
19:14
here I was one of the first cosplayers
19:16
ever of Marty I love 2015 because this
19:18
was May after the movie came out in
19:21
November so by may I had my own costume
19:23
free cookies and lemonade down there
19:27
how cool is that which is nice because
19:29
I'm I've worked up quite a thirst stays
19:39
at 88 the whole time you know when it's
19:41
not moving the gamble house goes back to
19:57
the future yeah I'll take once an 88
20:06
mile-per-hour cupcake is that what gets
20:07
you so hyped up you're always hyper is
20:10
it because of the sugar and the cupcake
20:12
it goes straight to my head it's amazing
20:15
to see how popular back to the future is
20:19
so many years after it was released it's
20:22
pretty exciting look at that way down
20:27
there
20:32
looks like they're about to do some sort
20:32
of science experiments with Mentos and
20:35
Diet soda
20:36
what kind of propulsion will you use for
20:40
your time it's a good thing you had the
21:13
protective goggles
21:27
I bet the property owners back in 1985
21:27
had no clue that people would still be
21:30
making the pilgrimage out here to see
21:34
this place probably never was in their
21:37
thought process whatsoever it's a steady
21:42
flow of people all day all with one
21:46
thing in mind for a fanfare
21:53
fan
21:55
because
22:14
very cool so the original was you know
22:14
if you wanted to display something we
22:15
hit that button you want to reset get
22:17
that button to hold or come down I just
22:21
noticed your watch - yeah capacitor
22:23
what's the what's around the front look
22:25
like nice unfortunately only thing we
22:28
don't got is it's a stop haven't done
22:30
that I saw another one earlier and they
22:32
had the 88 written they had a written
22:34
drawn in yeah there's a few Persians for
22:37
them that's the power indicator they're
22:39
both two knobs the one if you want you
22:41
know world's best asourian I was in it I
22:43
was only in this remote wearing this
22:44
teacher Oh in the world's fastest
22:46
tellurium was that a TV episode oh it
22:50
was a documentary it's on that it's on
22:52
absolutely very cool it's nice man check
22:54
it out
22:55
where'd you pick that up at what else
22:58
you got here but hunt tucked away behind
23:00
here you got we got that you got the
23:01
1885 there we got saved the clock tower
23:04
nice so guys guess who I randomly run
23:07
into Adam Duluth yeah oh my gosh check
23:11
out Marty over there sitting on the
23:14
grassy hill he doesn't have any clue
23:16
what the heck time he's in is very
23:23
confused
23:29
what year are you in Marty if you
23:29
weren't able to make it here in person
23:30
today they are open Thursday Friday
23:33
Saturday's & Sunday's from 12:00 to 3:00
23:35
and they do tours of the inside of the
23:39
building at that time as well it's
23:42
located at four Westmoreland place in
23:44
Pasadena California but don't count on
23:48
Doc Brown roaming around the premises in
23:51
the future see what I did there he might
23:55
not be here when you arrive
24:00
in the future that's gonna do it for
24:05
today I must say it was a pretty
24:06
eventful pretty eventful time seeing and
24:12
