0:12 very shortly i'll be heading over to the
0:13 orlando international airport
0:15 as the recording of this it is june 29

0:20 and i am going to hop on a plane i have
0:22 a layover in
0:23 houston texas i have chosen united
0:26 airlines
0:27 and this will be the first time ever in
0:30 the existence of my lifespan
0:32 after hundreds of flights that i will be
0:36 i will be going first class the reason i
0:39 decided
0:40 to opt for this from six foot three
0:43 do not have a lot of leg room and over
0:46 the last
0:47 12 13 months delta air lines has been my
0:51 airline of choice simply because they
0:53 we're not filling up the middle row
0:55 so when you get to the towards the back
0:57 of the plane you have three rows on
0:59 either side
1:00 normally when you're going coast to
1:01 coast in the bigger airlines they were
1:03 not
1:04 selling the middle seat so i would
1:05 choose the window sometimes the albino
1:08 norm most times the window seat and
1:10 there would be no one beside me
1:12 all that is gone by the wayside there is
1:14 no distancing on airlines
1:15 also i would also pay about another
1:18 hundred dollars
1:20 per seat plus fees maybe even 150
1:23 dollars
1:24 to get the extended leg room to get two
1:26 or three more inches of leg room so my
1:28 knees
1:28 were not smushed up in front of the seat
1:31 person behind me
1:32 that was all i kind of figured it out as
1:34 far as a one-way trip
1:36 was only about 200 less
1:39 than if i just went up to first class
1:41 now over the years i've always thought
1:42 should i do first class
1:44 should i document what a first class
1:46 flight
1:47 is like and today is the day to
1:50 celebrate me
1:51 going back to california after 135 days
1:56 i think it may be my math is correct on
1:57 that oh the church bells are ringing it
1:59 is now
2:00 10 o'clock 10 a.m my flight does not
2:03 depart for a few hours
2:05 got a couple other things i want to do
2:06 before heading heading over there
2:09 you know tying up some loose ends and
2:11 whatnot but i'm going first class
2:14 i kind of i fear well i don't fear but
2:18 is going first class going is it going
2:21 to be difficult to go back to coach
2:23 after you have that and really the only
2:25 reason is so i have a little bit more
2:27 room
2:27 so i can document it stretch my legs out
2:30 and
2:35 i'm almost 47 years old and i've never
2:35 i've never done first class
2:36 i've never been upgraded i did not get a
2:38 complimentary upgrade i am paying the
2:39 extra little bit of money
2:41 i think it was about 450 just shy of 500
2:45 maybe even less than that between four
2:47 and five hundred dollars where
2:49 if i would have had the extended leg
2:51 room just behind first class which is
2:53 what i usually do
2:54 probably 250 300 so coughed up
2:57 the extra amount i just said heck it i'm
3:00 doing it
3:01 i'm inviting you to join me this has
3:03 been a long-winded explanation
3:05 shall you now i did contemplate driving
3:07 cross-country
3:08 back to southern california but decided
3:10 to fly and when i get there i'll be
3:12 renting a car
3:13 and you know just taking public transit
3:17 ride share catching rides with friends
3:20 renting cars things like that my vehicle
3:23 here taking over to my parents house
3:25 they're going to watch over it while i'm
3:26 gone no plans on when i'll be back
3:29 i'll be back by at least by october 1st
3:31 but other than that
3:32 not really sure when i'll be back it
3:34 really is kind of incredible that i've
3:36 been
3:36 gone as long as i have i left on
3:40 valentine's day middle of february
3:43 i've now been dropped off unattended
3:46 vehicles
3:47 will be towed and
3:52 face coverings and are required
3:54 everywhere
3:55 i have made it to the united states
3:57 across the board there
3:59 i have made it to the united
4:02 walk-through ticketing and check-in
4:06 looks to be quite a few quite a few
4:09 people in here it is very busy
4:11 with fourth of july just around the
4:13 corner it's not quite
4:15 holiday weekend yet you know it's still
4:17 a
4:18 still a little bit of a ways off today
4:20 is the 29th
4:21 as the recording of this see if i can
4:24 see my departure on there out of
4:27 let's see i am going to my layover is in
4:30 houston oh yeah right up top there
4:34 it says on time i just got to double
4:37 check and see if that's it yeah that's
4:38 it
4:38 gate number 42. boy this is a real
4:41 beehive of activity in here is it not
4:43 okay gates one through 59 straight ahead
4:46 i'm looking for 42.
4:48 that's where i'm heading right over
4:49 through that area and take a look how
4:51 many arrivals and departures there are
4:55 quite a bit out of o.y.i
5:07 glad i got here a little bit early made
5:07 it through
5:08 and now heading over to the 30 through
5:10 55
5:12 area to go on a monorail
5:16 now one 126 127
5:20 still got plenty of time maybe we could
5:23 catch this one in time
5:25 nope miss it
5:28 so close so the next one will be on this
5:31 side
5:32 hey take a little monorail over
5:52 uh
5:52 now this is not my plane but there is
5:55 another united
5:56 pulling in here at the very end of the
5:59 section you can see it's pulling in
6:00 right now to let off the
6:02 the passengers and there's yet another
6:04 one
6:05 over here at 44 that is parked about
6:08 ready to start boarding
6:10 this is the the whole united area oh
6:12 look there goes the flying
6:14 food group that's what has the meals
6:16 delivering the meals
6:18 on board before before they take off
6:26 i don't know if i've ever flown united
6:26 before i used to do american all the
6:28 time and then
6:29 delta when they were separating seats
6:30 but
6:32 now i'm on united i'm not partial to one
6:34 airline
6:35 i just go with whatever works now i did
6:37 not forget my headphones i would usually
6:39 watch stuff
6:40 on my phone or listen to podcasts and
6:42 whatnot but if you did forget something
6:44 they have these vending machines
6:46 sound and mobile accessories and you can
6:49 get chargers you can get
6:50 headphones you can even get well that's
6:53 pretty much what it is chargers and
6:54 headphones
6:55 this is gate number 40 here
6:58 this is not my plane either mine has not
7:01 arrived quite yet but you can see the
7:03 the tower often that this is the control
7:04 tower
7:07 42 is a it's kind of co-joined to this
7:10 you can see there's no plane there now
7:12 44 there's a plane 40 there's a plane
7:14 but 42.
7:16 mine is not arrived yet it'll be here
7:18 soon if you so choose to do a little
7:20 shopping while you're waiting
7:21 there's a couple little little
7:23 vestibules little stands here there's
7:25 mystic
7:25 silver pure shopping magic
7:29 and then over here is
7:32 natalie's candy jar
7:38 i've seen these in other airports that
7:38 they were full stores but this one's
7:40 just a little stand
7:41 that is a very decent size lollipop
7:44 right there and in
7:46 true florida fashion the original choco
7:49 gator
7:57 i think maybe the speakers up here are
7:57 not working correctly it sounds like a
7:58 star wars character
8:07 the speaker's blooming here's a better
8:07 view of the food court area in here
8:09 that freshens smoothies smoothie sounds
8:13 pretty good i'm not going to get one but
8:14 it does sound pretty good
8:15 it's also nature's table or wendy's
8:18 wok and uh mexican
8:22 eats place over there in the corner it's
8:24 very busy in here
8:25 i feel like i always get to the airport
8:27 way too early
8:28 and just pace around walk around until
8:31 it's my time to board
8:32 there was one time though i i i kind of
8:35 kind of fooled around with the tease
8:37 that little too much
8:39 and got here with not enough time and
8:41 they closed the door
8:42 before i was able to board and i missed
8:45 my flight it happened at lax
8:46 i had to go all the way back home and go
8:48 back the next day
8:50 i wasn't too happy so i guess better
8:52 safe than sorry
8:54 and get always get to the airport a
8:57 little early
8:58 gate 42 plane is now arriving
9:07 there it is so i can hear the engine
9:07 through
9:09 through the open door it's just now
9:11 arriving
9:21 one of the two the first one that goes
9:21 to houston and there's a layover
9:23 and it's about uh
9:30 a little platform is about to attach to
9:30 the door
9:31 a little behind the scenes here
9:36 very close it's getting closer this is
9:39 the platform i will be walking across to
9:41 board
9:42 it's very exciting
9:50 there it goes almost attached
9:50 almost attached and i will be boarding
9:55 on the way to houston and then houston
9:59 to socal boarding was scheduled to
10:03 begin about 12 minutes ago door has not
10:06 opened and boarding has been delayed
10:08 just a little bit hopefully not much
10:10 longer however
10:33 it on is a lot more legroom in here than
10:33 what i'm used to
10:35 however there is no pull down tray table
10:38 sometimes i will you know i'll download
10:39 something on my phone to watch
10:41 i'll have the tray table flip down and
10:43 i'll put my phone across here
10:45 i use this but there is no tray table
12:55 looks like downtown orlando over there

13:59 some more turbulent weather some
14:02 inclement weather we're going to be
14:03 flying for yourself
14:05 quite a bit of light turbulence
14:08 throughout the course of this flight
14:09 all the way to houston check to make
14:11 sure they're seatbelts
14:12 as well thank you
14:30 ended up getting a sandwich here carved
14:30 chicken
14:31 on italian italian bread
14:35 chicken provolone and parmesan garlic
14:39 butter
14:40 and kale cream cheese
14:43 this thing is warm too when you hand it
14:44 to me you can feel the warmth through
14:47 the
14:47 bag they even give you a
14:50 ceramic plate look at that fancy
15:07 that was also the time to put away your
15:07 tray tables and video monitors put your
15:09 seat backs up return your address to the
15:10 original position
15:12 and fasten your seatbelt if you're
15:14 sitting near the window please open the
15:15 window shane for landing
15:16 flight attendants please prepare the
15:43 it's kind of tough to see but that's
15:45 downtown houston
15:46 way over there we did a complete
15:49 circle around the city we went past it
15:52 and then back backtrack
15:54 probably due to weather but you can kind
15:56 of make out downtown over there
16:46 we were coming in fast on that one it
16:46 was a fast landing

19:27 is the one i'll be boarding in 20
19:29 minutes or so

19:53 and shopping bags you've placed those
19:53 items underneath the seat in front of
19:55 you
19:56 leaving the overhead bin space for the
19:58 large rollerboard bags those items
20:00 should fit in
20:01 wheel or hands and if you're having any
20:04 trouble

20:24 11 minutes after schedule that's really
20:25 not too bad weather out of here
20:27 a little dicey still uh as the
20:29 thunderstorm dissipates we'll pick up
20:31 uh and bounded leave as we're climbing
20:33 up might have to keep the fasten

20:35 normal
20:36 as soon as we get screw there we will
20:37 try to get it off we do ask you to buy

24:13 hickory smoked almonds
24:16 some mediterranean apricots
24:19 some salami slices
24:23 even a little chocolate down there
24:33 these are called cream crackers
24:33 and a multi-grain
25:41 quite a bit of turbulence right now a
25:42 lot of turbulence
25:49 captain just came over and said for
25:49 flight attendants to take their seats
25:51 well it is really bouncy
25:57 local time will be 7 30 p.m
26:00 nice night as usual in orange county
26:04 temperatures 70 degrees uh high clouds
26:07 uh right now i'm scaring this guy but uh
26:10 nothing
26:11 uh any great concern today we are going
26:13 to be going into
26:15 the gate number eight
26:19 as always we do appreciate you flying

26:25 there's something i haven't seen in over
26:27 a few months

27:34 tray tables are stowed seat backs are in
27:34 their full upright position
27:38 any carry-on items you brought up during
27:39 the flight should now be completely
27:41 underneath that
27:42 giving you some good views of these
27:45 mountains here

29:36 it breaks really hard whoa my gosh

31:13 you know layovers are kind of nice
31:14 because you can get out and stretch your
31:15 legs
31:16 but all in all a direct flight is much
31:18 quicker
31:19 much much quicker look the sun is about
31:21 to set over there
31:22 first thing i immediately noticed as i
31:24 walked over here to where the rideshare
31:27 pickup is there's no humidity
31:30 there's no warmth
31:33 completely different than what has been
31:36 taking place in florida for me
31:38 in recent last month or two i'm wearing
31:41 the appropriate hat
31:42 i'm back man feels good
31:46 over 130 to 135 days if my math was
31:50 correct on that
31:51 and when it comes to the first class you
31:53 do get uh you get
31:55 a couple extra food options i am a
31:57 non-drinker so the the free
31:59 booze does not really affect me per se
32:02 you do get a little bit of extra leg
32:04 room a little more elbow room
32:06 i don't really know if it's worth the
32:07 price i can't really 100 decide
32:10 if it's worth paying the extra money to
32:13 be up in first class
32:14 i'm still on the fence with it i'm not
32:16 complaining though it was nice
32:18 it was nice to have a little elbow room
32:19 but it wasn't vastly
32:21 much different than having the just
32:25 behind
32:25 first class paying a little bit of extra
32:27 money for a little extra legroom
32:30 and that's going to do it for today i'm
32:33 back
