0:04 not too long after sunrise the sky
0:04 is looking very beautiful with the cloud
0:07 formations up there
0:17 the road's a little bouncy
0:17 over a very impressive bridge formation
0:22 look at that welcome everyone adam the
0:25 woo here today's adventure begins
0:28 in brunswick georgia underneath
0:32 the incredible branches of lovers
0:35 oak said to be nearly
0:39 a thousand years old well more than 900
0:44 years old according to the stories and
0:48 the tales i'm going to be going through
0:51 two different states today covering
0:54 nearly about 400 miles if i stay
0:57 on interstate 95 but i will be veering
1:00 off so let's just
1:02 assume it will probably add on 50 to 100
1:04 miles more
1:06 meandering off of the interstate going
1:09 into
1:10 out of georgia into south carolina and
1:12 then to the state line of
1:14 north carolina that's the agenda i'm
1:18 inviting you to join me
1:19 and just we're just going to have a good
1:20 day shall you
1:23 it's located in the middle of a
1:24 residential neighborhood
1:27 houses all around it and the road a
1:30 split road
1:31 has been built on either side
1:35 that is a large tree it is a little
1:38 silhouetted out now because of the
1:40 sun behind it that is rising
1:44 check out this homestead across the way
1:46 here
1:49 the backdrop of the town's water tower
1:51 reminds me something that
1:54 vincent price would live in in one of
1:56 his movies
1:57 that's awesome after looking it up i
2:00 realized i'm about a hundred miles off
2:02 of my estimate for today's travels not
2:04 400 miles closer to
2:07 300 miles right over here
2:11 as i trounce through the grass is
2:14 something that really pertains to
2:16 this town's name in this
2:20 pot was the first brunswick
2:24 stew made on south
2:27 saint simon isle on july 2
2:31 1898 the first
2:34 brunswick stew was in this pot
2:37 right here on display for all to see
2:43 when it comes to small towns this is the
2:45 kind of stuff i'm always looking
2:48 for the relics of the past
2:51 advertisements for the good old days
2:56 still embedded here on the side of this
2:57 brick wall
2:59 a bakery and confectionary
3:06 and also curtains and stoves and carpets
3:06 check that out there's a sh crescent
3:09 company
3:10 old signage up there the ritz theater
3:12 the neon
3:14 still up there on the side of the wall
3:16 nice
3:18 back on the interstate not what i always
3:20 choose to travel on but you know gain a
3:22 little bit of time
3:24 and then i'll veer off just kind of mix
3:26 it up a little bit
3:27 keep things interesting that didn't last
3:31 too long found a road that runs parallel
3:34 highway 17 north tough to tell what that
3:37 what that was at one point that antique
3:40 little relic right there in front of
3:42 this establishment
4:07 now i have passed by a piggly wiggly or
4:07 two in my day
4:09 but i've never seen a 12 foot
4:12 version of the mascot before is made out
4:16 of wood
4:18 i like that
4:23 little piggly wiggly it's a grocery
4:23 store
4:24 a complete canopy of moss
4:28 love it and then some that have just
4:32 been planted
4:33 very tiny pine trees
4:38 well babies
4:46 okay these are adults these are adult
4:46 pine trees
4:47 peppered in there
4:58 just off the side here in townsend
4:58 claims to be the smallest church in
5:00 america
5:02 visitors welcome non-denominational
5:04 built in 1949 by
5:06 mrs agnes harper
5:10 there's an arrow pointing to where it is
5:12 over in the trees
6:22 no church pews there are six seats
6:22 there's 12 seats total
6:24 six on that side six
6:28 on that side and there's a walking stick
6:31 here that seems to be engraved as well a
6:34 couple other people have stopped off to
6:35 get some
6:37 photographs very neat i love it
6:41 i got some trucks pulled over here
6:45 not just one
6:48 but also another one here
7:01 and not just that those two
7:01 a third set of trucks
7:04 up here that have been pulled over to
7:06 the side i'm in the middle lane because
7:09 sometimes it's a rule sometimes it's
7:11 just
7:12 the proper thing to do is to to get out
7:15 of the far
7:16 right lane when you see lights like that
7:19 but yeah three different
7:22 trucks pulled over and about a half a
7:24 mile stretch
7:25 interesting just off the savannah exit
7:29 at the keller's flea market
7:33 it's this gargantuan cow
7:37 this thing is tall just looming over
7:40 passer buying traffic to get a
7:43 correlation
7:44 look at the vehicles look at the cow
7:46 that thing
7:48 it's wearing a hat it's got a hat on up
7:51 there
7:52 nice good to see you cow
8:02 it's okay commuters pay no attention to
8:02 the
8:03 large cow staring at you
8:06 it means no harm i love fleas
8:11 oh because it's a flea market
8:14 that makes sense
8:31 oh down near your
8:31 near your hoove your hoof
8:34 you have a wrist watch around your ankle
8:39 didn't notice that at first
9:08 which i believe takes me out of georgia
9:08 and
9:08 into south carolina
9:15 road just changed if there's one thing
9:15 i've learned
9:17 in my travels is that fiberglass
9:20 elephants do not enjoy being climbed
9:24 upon
9:31 larger than the the vehicles there
9:31 in the background very immense
9:34 in size a gray and a pink one
9:42 been sitting here for many years in
9:42 front of papa joe's
9:45 fireworks which is having a buy one get
9:48 one free sale they are open
9:50 the only vehicle in the entire parking
9:53 lot
9:55 is my rental car
10:06 now if these were if these were the real
10:09 deal
10:10 i would not be meandering between both
10:13 of them because they could lean into
10:14 each other
10:15 crush me they're very stationary they
10:20 are
10:22 i can't walk any further there's some
10:24 weeds here
10:26 in a a gully
10:39 which i just almost fell in when i was
10:39 trying to shift the camera around i
10:40 almost took a plummet down in there
10:43 after after just stating
10:44 to watch my step
10:52 all right elephants i'll see you later
10:52 catch you later
10:54 oh wow also advertising is something
10:58 called a claxton fruitcake
11:08 made it to walterboro south carolina
11:08 that's the post office there
11:10 it's a very unique tile work
11:15 on that building and up here
11:18 it's a little antique
11:35 some neon up in there that has seen some
11:35 years
11:37 beautiful whoa
11:47 that thing's moving now here's something
11:47 you don't see every day
11:49 this is a water tower and you see water
11:52 towers
11:52 pretty often however this particular
11:56 one at the base
12:01 i almost i almost took another tumble
12:05 right there on that little
12:05 only about two or three inches up i just
12:10 gotta watch where i'm walking at the
12:13 base of this water tower
12:16 look what's under here
12:24 it was used as a cell well a couple
12:28 cells
12:30 you'd see another one in there
12:36 and then over here one of the doors is
12:36 open
12:39 over a hundred years ago so the
12:41 information states
12:43 it's locked up with a newer lock
13:04 after peeking back in i'm noticing
13:04 there's a total of three there's two
13:06 there and another there and there's a
13:10 little
13:10 side passageway that doesn't have that's
13:13 not
13:14 sealed up with bars
13:22 and hello
13:22 oh yeah a little bit of an echo in there
13:29 i don't remember bars being on these
13:29 windows
13:30 oh dang that's an active captain deez
13:36 i don't even know captain d's was still
13:37 a thing
13:56 need to stop and get some fuel it's a
13:56 dollar
13:58 98 here this is an active open
14:02 stuckey's it's good to see
14:06 definitely not the smoothest oh
14:09 i heard me talking about it and the road
14:11 kind of smoothed out
14:13 i'm gonna say definitely not the
14:14 smoothest interstate section
14:18 but it got a little better once i
14:19 started mentioning it and now i'm on a
14:21 portion of the bridge so it's
14:23 a little rougher let's be going over
14:26 going over some water
14:58 my goodness i made it
15:01 south of the border you would be
15:03 hard-pressed to find
15:04 a roadside attraction of this
15:08 size magnitude and unusualness
15:12 anywhere else in the us probably in the
15:14 top probably top five
15:16 if not top three on my list and it's
15:19 been
15:20 many years since i've stopped off here
15:25 oh man
15:31 still exists it's tough to even wrap
15:31 your head around
15:34 why it's here there's a water tower over
15:36 there that has sob on it
15:37 which stands of course for south of the
15:40 border
15:51 on the side of the restaurant is an
15:51 oversized
15:52 hamburger
15:55 when i talk about how it ranks up high
15:57 on the list it's not because there's a
15:59 lot to do
16:00 here so much it's just basically a big
16:02 shopping area with a restaurant
16:04 there's a place to get gas and there's
16:06 like gift shops
16:07 but it's just the it's something that
16:09 you have to it's hard to even wrap your
16:11 head around
16:12 the fact that it really exists off of
16:15 the interstate it's a real place about a
16:18 decade maybe even longer but give or
16:20 take a ten years a band i was in from
16:22 florida
16:23 we were doing a tour and we passed
16:25 through here we placed our sticker
16:27 it was an oversized sticker along the
16:31 spark plug it's kind of a right of
16:32 passage
16:34 to do so for any visitors to take any
16:36 sort of
16:37 sticky vinyl and place it here
16:40 upon the spark plug i have analyzed it
16:43 and looked closely and even though it
16:45 was about 10 times bigger than all the
16:47 other stickers on here
16:49 it is gone it is no it has been erased
16:53 from existence i believe it was up here
16:56 and it looks like
16:57 all of them were peeled off and now
17:00 other ones have been placed there but
17:02 there's a lot yeah there's a lot of
17:03 stickers some duplicates
17:05 triplicates there are even some that
17:08 have been placed
17:09 you know half a dozen or more of the
17:11 same
17:13 same stickers there was a time period
17:15 when you could go
17:16 up into the tippy top
17:24 of the sombrero which is that sun is
17:24 bright
17:34 but i do not believe you can go up there
17:34 anymore it doesn't appear as if i see
17:38 the elevator going up
17:40 i don't see anyone at the top just went
17:43 inside
17:44 at the base of this and they said that
17:47 it has not been working for
17:49 quite a while no go
17:54 see an rv parked over there
17:57 there's some fireworks for sale
18:01 there's a t-shirt shop here
18:11 video power i don't really know what
18:11 that is pinball
18:12 skee-ball and pool inside the arcade
18:17 if you count the billboards going down
18:19 95
18:22 there's probably more than 100 or 200
18:24 they start from 150
18:26 plus miles back very reminiscent of
18:30 the thing out in the desert near the
18:34 west coast
18:35 where there's just a plethora of
18:38 billboards for that as well
18:47 oh jeez what is in your mouth there is
18:47 that a cigar
18:50 i don't really know what it is
18:57 got something in your mouth i'm gonna
18:59 lean up on you rhino
19:02 i'm just gonna lean up on you say hello
19:30 there is a bridge right here
19:30 i can't imagine if anyone ever traverses
19:34 across the top of it though you just
19:36 cross over the regular road
19:52 this leads to
19:52 pedro's pleasure dome
20:11 the pleasure dome kind of wish i could
20:11 go up in the sombrero
20:12 i'm not gonna not gonna lie
20:16 was not meant to be
20:41 the fountain at the main entrance of the
20:43 hotel
20:44 motel well it's called a motor lodge
20:52 i think that means i think that means a
20:52 motel
20:54 if memory serves me correctly
20:57 the shop over here had some rather
21:00 inexpensive stickers and merchandise
21:10 and if that's still the case i might get
21:10 a couple souvenirs
21:22 look at that thing next to the shopping
21:22 carts which are not the world's largest
21:24 shopping carts they're
21:25 about half size got a handful of items
21:28 including this
21:28 one dollar bag that you can get is like
21:32 a little
21:33 carrying tote
21:41 and a few take home items a couple
21:41 different sizes of bumper stickers
21:45 and different designs as well and
21:48 instead of getting another coffee mug
21:49 which i have too many of i
21:51 always use an extra drinking glass i got
21:53 this plastic one
21:55 it's 2.95 these were like 10 cents each
21:58 so everything including the bag was only
22:01 like
22:01 five bucks but maybe these were actually
22:04 these were a dollar
22:05 smaller ones were 10 cents bigger ones
22:07 were a dollar
22:09 in fact i think these were 10 cents so i
22:11 think three dollars
22:13 99 cents a dollar and then 10 cents each
22:17 for the old school style it was like
22:20 five dollars and change
22:22 plus tax picked up a pamphlet also
22:25 just showing some of the things they
22:26 have here on site have a campground
22:30 and a reptile lagoon
22:33 you never sausage
22:36 a place or with some clever
22:42 clever anecdotes different attractions
22:44 an indoor outdoor pool
22:46 amusement ride i didn't see any
22:47 amusement rides five restaurants and
22:50 seven gift shops a 300
22:53 foot tall observation tower with a glass
22:56 elevator
22:57 that is not working and there's the
22:59 motor in
23:00 it's the talk of the town by
23:04 different birds they have chili
23:08 hot tamales and there's a steak house
23:11 here called the peddler
23:14 south carolina's world well south
23:16 carolina is just right over the border
23:18 of north carolina
23:19 that's where it gets its name south of
23:22 the border
23:23 right on the state line drove over this
23:26 way a bit
23:27 never noticed this before the steakhouse
23:31 is
23:31 also a sombrero look at that
23:37 reading off all the different
23:38 attractions quadzilla a merry-go-round
23:42 the red baron a ferris wheel pedro has a
23:46 railroad bumper cars hot wheels
23:50 wow and a convention center
23:54 south of the border has a convention
23:56 center
24:01 under the sun glare i found the
24:01 attractions over here
24:03 on the far end got a little excited
24:07 that i found them however the sign
24:10 says closed with no admittance
24:20 but they do have them just not open
24:20 at the moment oh there's the bumper car
24:23 area right there look
24:40 when i see something closed like that
24:40 that i would like to
24:41 partake in i always think to myself
24:57 son of a also a truck stop on that side
24:57 of the road can't stop over there though
25:00 because
25:01 i'm not not driving a truck looks like
25:05 most the truckers though
25:06 are siding with going to porky's truck
25:09 stop
25:42 huh and a pantry where
25:42 cigarettes are sold by the carton
25:48 yeah so it says right there on the
25:48 awning what is this the silver arcade
25:52 never noticed this before in the past i
25:55 mean obviously it was here i just
25:56 skipped over it
25:58 the silver arcade there's a glass
26:00 slipper
26:02 there and
26:05 how welcoming they are they have two
26:08 items
26:09 in front of the door it's a flea market
26:11 that's what it says says there's a flea
26:12 market on the door
26:14 and an internet cafe what
26:17 i have to admit i didn't know an
26:18 internet cafe in this day and age
26:21 still up north carolina line just
26:24 crossing into north carolina
26:26 that's going to do it for today if
