0:03 welcome everyone adam the woo here this
0:03 oh this is toasty this is a i have
0:05 procured
0:07 a piping hot caffeinated beverage which
0:10 they do not put the cardboard around
0:12 well over here from cornerstone cafe
0:14 it's where i got the coffee today
0:16 do not put the cardboard wrapping around
0:17 it the cardboard wrapping is
0:19 part of the cup itself you might be
0:22 wondering why i'm wearing a collared
0:23 shirt
0:24 long sleeve even though it's rolled up
0:26 because the humidity of central florida
0:28 is slightly intense even though it is
0:29 just spring it's not even summer yet you
0:31 can start to feel the warmth
0:33 i have a 1 pm jury duty
0:37 summons that i must attend for osceola
0:40 county gonna head to
0:42 this county's courthouse even though
0:43 orange county is just a very short
0:45 distance just right around the corner
0:47 i'm right on the cusp so i'm going to go
0:49 into downtown kissimmee
0:51 and just kind of give you a step by step
0:53 of my day
0:55 you should probably see how many miles
0:57 that is i'm inviting you to join me
1:12 kind of hot in these rhinos shall you
1:12 all right it's looking like 11 miles 27
1:15 minutes 11 miles i think most of that is
1:17 just
1:18 getting out of celebration some refer to
1:21 it as the bubble it's kind of tucked
1:23 away in here
1:24 once they get out of the main
1:25 thoroughfares it moves a lot quicker you
1:27 are summoned
1:28 to appear to jury service at the date
1:29 time and location shown on the reverse
1:31 side
1:32 failure to comply as directed can result
1:34 in a fine
1:35 and slash or contempt of court chapter
1:39 40 of the florida statute says please
1:42 park
1:44 off of west bryant street in the parking
1:46 garage
1:48 all right heading over speaking of
1:50 juries
1:51 the jury's still out on whether or not
1:53 there really is
1:54 water up in that tower or not
1:58 some say no yep it's true big the foot
2:00 i've never served on one before oh you
2:02 have
2:03 oh involving someone named patterson
2:06 that
2:08 filmed you without your permission going
2:10 down 192 passing by
2:12 that empty lot there used to be xanadu
2:14 home of the future back in the day
2:17 now it's gone in case you're wondering
2:19 that's not a real tree
2:21 it's a cell phone tower that's a pirate
2:23 ship over there
2:24 passing a pirate ship former pizza hut
2:27 alert
2:29 former pizza hut alert turned off of
2:32 highway 192 onto orange blossom trail
2:35 also known as main street
2:38 going right downtown kissimmee
2:47 downtown kissimmee we've opened safely
2:47 free parking i believe that's what
2:48 that's supposed to say i think the wind
2:50 has kind of scattered the letters around
2:57 this is not the parking structure they
2:57 suggested to park at it's about a block
2:59 away
3:00 but i find this one a little more kind
3:01 of quaint
3:03 here in this area and speaking of
3:06 opening i'm gonna open
3:10 this umbrella let's get out of the shade
3:13 and over
3:14 into the sun as i walk over to the
3:16 courthouse
3:18 showed this before in the past always
3:21 worth a revisit
3:23 rita's general store this mural has been
3:25 here for many many years
3:27 angela's fine apparel oh looking very
3:30 dapper sir going through here oh look at
3:34 that that's a nice little hat
3:36 right there this kind of reminds me it
3:39 looks like chevy chase
3:41 circa 1983
3:45 to 85 just an estimated
3:48 time frame of that it is not modeled
3:49 after clark griswold however
3:54 yeah this is the toho square parking lot
3:58 about a block or so from the one that
4:00 was on the paper
4:02 said i could park out i'm just taking a
4:04 little stroll got some time
4:06 i can cut through here this building
4:08 burned down
4:10 a decade ago or so
4:14 and then recently they put a mural of an
4:17 owl
4:19 right over here on this wall rather
4:21 fantastic
4:22 and another mural on this wall
4:31 it's like a robotic cowboy and horse
4:31 almost kind of steam punkish in a way
4:34 look down here you can see the
4:36 former foundation the tile work of what
4:39 once was
4:40 back in the early 90s i would say 1991
4:43 when i first started driving an
4:45 automobile got my license
4:47 17 year old me
4:50 this illusions establishment was
4:58 what was it it was a pawn shop or maybe
4:58 this was the pawn shop
5:00 this is going back 25 oh gosh 30 years
5:03 ago now
5:10 right up here is the parking structure
5:10 that they recommended to park out corner
5:13 of emmett
5:14 and orlando fascinating this is emmett
5:16 street
5:18 also turns into highway we're not
5:20 highway 192
5:21 does not turn into this you turn off of
5:24 highway 192 which
5:25 eventually becomes emmett also main
5:27 street also orange blossom trail
5:30 and also broadway if you look back down
5:33 this way
5:34 you will see street signs historic
5:36 downtown saying broadway and also orange
5:38 blossom trail
5:39 and also emmett
5:53 it's very confusing
5:53 that's a bed and breakfast or at least
5:54 it used to be don't know if i've ever
5:56 seen
5:57 gates without any partitions on either
6:01 side there's
6:02 there's nothing on either side stopping
6:04 anyone from walking around usually there
6:06 will be like a concrete
6:08 concrete pillars on either side
6:11 that might be a first i've never seen
6:13 something like that almost to the
6:16 can always tell when you start seeing
6:17 the attorney's
6:19 signs when there's a courthouse there
6:22 will be attorneys nearby
6:24 in the general vicinity
6:27 that you can hire
6:34 one courthouse square
6:34 the new courthouse would be just around
6:37 this building
6:38 which is where it's supposed to report
6:41 to
6:48 the original courthouse still remains
6:48 that is right over here going to take a
6:50 look
6:56 showcase off this for for a moment
6:56 the original osceola county courthouse
7:00 still stands over there is the newer one
7:04 where all the proceedings take place and
7:07 the admin osceola county
7:08 administration's office
7:10 is right here this is relatively new as
7:13 stated earlier i
7:14 have not ever been called to a jury now
7:17 i have gotten many a summons
7:20 probably i don't know six or seven or
7:22 eight over my lifetime
7:24 only one time maybe twice let's say
7:26 twice
7:28 one that i am certain of twice i have
7:30 slept since then so i forgot forgotten
7:32 but there was another time
7:34 that i was released earlier in the day
7:36 and then one time that was a lengthy
7:38 day that i sat in this very courthouse
7:40 till about
7:41 4 or 5 p.m and they said you can go
7:46 so i did i've never been inside
7:49 a courtroom on a jury or in a courtroom
7:52 being tried
7:54 for anything like that now i have been
7:56 in you know museums
7:57 that are courtrooms have been in small
7:59 town courtrooms that let you in just to
8:01 film videos and whatnot
8:05 which brings me to another point didn't
8:06 really know how to go about this episode
8:09 it kind of put out the feelers a little
8:11 bit and just discussing it with others
8:14 came to the conclusion that you can
8:16 mention that you do get a summons
8:18 you don't want to show all the specifics
8:20 that's why i kind of marked them out on
8:21 the
8:22 on the piece of paper but you can't talk
8:24 about it you just cannot talk about the
8:26 specifics and once the judge
8:27 if you're called you know any
8:29 information any specifics or any kind of
8:31 details he gives you you have to abide
8:33 by
8:34 but doing this and just mentioning it
8:36 that's fine i also want to point out how
8:38 the legal system
8:39 and how due process and all that works
8:43 a lot differently than it did a hundred
8:45 years ago
8:46 because in this very spot i have to i'm
8:49 to match it up but in
8:50 believe it's in this very spot 100 years
8:53 ago
8:54 was the last public trying
8:57 and punishment for someone who was
9:00 convicted
9:01 and they were i don't say they were not
9:03 only sentenced
9:05 but an event took place right here
9:08 and there are some interviews there are
9:09 some writings there are some newspaper
9:11 transcripts
9:12 of locals in the area who at some of the
9:15 homes
9:16 witnessed this happening right here next
9:17 to the staircase his name was eddie
9:19 broome
9:20 january of 1912 was when this
9:24 took place and there's yet another
9:28 another one there you see the windows
9:30 here and the drainage pipe that is there
9:33 the water pipe those windows are still
9:35 there now the camera
9:36 was placed up on the staircase and they
9:40 built
9:42 the device to to provide the punishment
9:47 on this side of the staircase so the
9:49 photographer would have been up on
9:52 probably an older version of that
9:53 staircase it's probably been redone and
9:55 re-bricked
9:56 but facing towards me and this water
9:58 pipe would have been more over there
10:00 but in the photograph those two windows
10:03 i'll walk around
10:04 and show how the angle was
10:07 and that was the last time that happened
10:10 here in kissimmee florida
10:12 at the courthouse that sort of
10:16 punishment
10:18 oh you know what i can probably i'm
10:20 gonna walk up here
10:29 eddie broom 1912
10:29 right about here
10:32 would be would be that angle
10:35 there you go a little history right here
10:37 osceola county courthouse history
10:45 that's come a long way since
10:45 you know the public was invited to to
10:47 look in on stuff like this
10:58 109 years ago is my math right on that
10:58 all right going back down the stairs and
11:01 over to the new courthouse
11:02 there's some birds chirping out here it
11:04 is a beautiful day when i think about
11:06 films that depict the legal process when
11:08 it comes to classics
11:09 i always think of 12 angry men one of my
11:11 favorites and to kill a mockingbird a
11:13 true classic
11:14 there are some newer ones you can't
11:17 handle the truth
11:20 which strike that from your memory that
11:22 the whole jack nicholson impression i
11:24 just did was a complete
11:25 failure now behind me over here is the
11:28 entrance now they do
11:29 have some different procedures and
11:31 regulations
11:33 moderately different than in the past
11:36 obviously
11:37 as is required i have this
11:40 which you go through and you have to go
11:42 through the the metal detector there's
11:44 quite a bit of a line looks like they're
11:46 only letting
11:47 a certain amount of people in very
11:48 slowly you know searching
11:50 making sure that everything is good to
11:53 go now
11:54 here is well i don't call it a conundrum
11:57 i could get excited about this
12:00 but i honestly would have liked to see
12:03 how jury duty takes place how it happens
12:07 you can either go on the website or call
12:09 a phone number
12:11 i just chose to go on the website still
12:14 had about another hour before it was
12:16 time for me to check in
12:18 and because i did that i had a
12:21 higher number i guess maybe there's one
12:24 through a thousand i had the the
12:25 upper number of that which some would
12:28 say
12:28 is easier to be excused during don't
12:32 know the whole
12:32 details of that maybe it's because too
12:34 many people already showed up
12:37 or maybe the case that i could have been
12:40 on
12:40 has been postponed or cancelled
12:43 nonetheless
12:44 i am done with my jury duty completed
12:48 without even stepping foot inside
12:50 of there i don't know how to feel about
12:53 that because i kind of wanted to
12:54 i kind of wanted to do it i've never
12:56 done it now i am no expert
12:58 on the way the system works but i've
13:01 heard
13:01 that it's just about every year so in a
13:04 year from now
13:06 in a year from now i could get another
13:08 one of these papers
13:10 and have my chance to do this or maybe
13:13 the type of job description i have
13:16 they might not be into that i'd probably
13:18 get dismissed anyway but a year from now
13:20 maybe don't quote me on any of this
13:25 all i know is as of today i will not be
13:28 going
13:29 inside this courthouse and getting
13:31 called for jury duty
13:32 if i would have there would have been
13:34 this you know whoop
13:35 public when very windy the health
13:38 message here
13:39 that everything is abided by there are
13:41 all the instructions
13:43 if you do not have internet access it is
13:45 very windy
13:46 you get the idea you kind of get the
13:48 idea oh there are also reasons
13:50 for excusal or
13:53 deferment which are posted here i didn't
13:54 even try to get out of it
13:56 i didn't try to get out of i just i was
13:59 kind of kind of wanting to do it in a
14:00 way i don't know if i want to serve on a
14:03 long
14:03 trial but i would like to at least get
14:06 called and then dismissed
14:08 that's never even happened i've just sat
14:09 in the waiting room before years ago
14:12 but never oh there's also
14:16 some juror compensation
14:19 i remember polly shore teaching me a
14:22 little bit about that
14:24 back in the day one of those movies
14:26 speaking of movies i guess i forgot to
14:27 mention that
14:28 along with the two classics all right
14:31 that's done
14:33 did it did it osceola county
14:55 very easy i just stepped on a stick
14:57 a little anti-climactic in my in my
14:59 brain feeling this is a little
15:00 anti-climactic
15:02 you know trying to document this however
15:04 if it had happened
15:06 if something had happened and i did get
15:08 called
15:09 there would be no climactic because i
15:11 wouldn't be able to mention it
15:13 so the fact that nothing happened is
15:15 more climactic than if something did
15:17 happen
15:18 which is usually not how things work
15:21 especially these videos
15:27 very confusing almost like the street
15:29 obt
15:30 emmett broadway plus you have main
15:34 all the same road that this building is
15:37 located on
15:38 as the bus goes by the links
15:41 transportation
15:42 ah for quite a while many many years
15:46 back in the mid 90s didn't have a car
15:49 had a car where i started driving
15:50 1991. then i didn't have a car for a
15:53 while
15:54 i take that links bus all over the place
15:56 bringing back some memories
15:58 the kissimmee connector this is link 57
16:17 one thing i've always wondered how do
16:17 they even know
16:18 you received this how do they know this
16:21 got to one's
16:22 mailbox is it because you call
16:25 and say i got it because i think they
16:28 tell you to call
16:29 when you get this or how does that work
16:32 how do they know
16:33 this showed up to your mailbox
16:47 i guess if you film yourself talking
16:47 about it that's one way
16:48 adam
16:56 that's gonna do it for today
16:56 i'll see you in the next video the vlog
17:00 from downtown kissimmee
17:03 is over
17:16 oh check it out right up there in that
17:16 corner
