0:02 welcome everyone adam the woo here
0:02 today's adventure begins in beaumont
0:04 texas where it is not snowing
0:06 currently is 34 degrees a temperature or
0:10 two above
0:11 freezing the last few days there has
0:13 been ice
0:14 snow very poor weather conditions today
0:17 will be no exception there is going to
0:19 be
0:20 a heck of a lot of rain forecasted as i
0:22 continue
0:23 eastward the accommodation is the hotel
0:25 i stayed in last night
0:27 when i checked in let me realize
0:31 what told me that there is no plumbing
0:34 no water anywhere in this general
0:37 vicinity so could not take a shower
0:39 toilets were not operational
0:44 i'm heading out eastbound across
0:47 interstate 10
0:48 trying to stay on the main thoroughfare
0:50 off of the back roads
0:51 off of as many exits as possible unless
0:54 i need to fuel up
0:55 and get a piping hot cabinet caffeinated
0:58 beverage
0:58 needs to happen thankfully in my car i
1:01 had an umbrella because it is
1:03 it's going to be ready to hold the whole
1:05 the whole journey i'm inviting you to
1:06 join me
1:07 it's also it's cold you're cold
1:10 you're stomp your feet
1:14 whoa
1:20 why are you joining me shall you still
1:20 going to be going at a very slow
1:22 pace a little little strain up there is
1:25 giving some precautions
1:26 you never know with hydroplaning and it
1:28 is right teetering right on freezing
1:30 there's still a lot of ice and snow
1:32 that has not melted especially over
1:33 these bridges so just kind of cruising
1:35 along about 40 miles an hour
1:38 that works the temperature has dropped
1:40 back down two degrees to 32
1:42 so now it's freezing rain not
1:45 technically
1:46 snow we classify it as the freezing rain
1:50 territory see this guy over here in the
1:52 truck moving along
1:54 very slowly because there's a big patch
1:56 of ice on that little
1:58 side road which is still not melted away
2:01 yet
2:02 yeah i do not like this at all
2:08 honestly
2:08 especially there's so many bridges
2:10 through here through this section almost
2:12 to the louisiana state line
2:14 lots of chunks of ice in the road from
2:17 time to time just kind of no
2:19 it's a pothole that was a chunk of ice
2:21 it was a pothole
2:22 now there's a lot of ice on these
2:24 bridges
2:25 a lot of ice
2:32 still not melting louisiana state line
2:32 i have a very high up bridge over this
2:35 river
2:36 going very slow look at the ice in the
2:38 middle of me
2:39 and on the side so speed limit is 60 i'm
2:43 going
2:44 22. yeah i'm good at this speed look at
2:48 this ice
2:50 no thank you stay in between these lines
2:54 stay in the dry spots
3:03 32 degrees right on the freezing level
3:03 not a fan
3:06 not a fan of this
3:15 caution slow down ice on bridge
3:15 think about louisiana especially this
3:17 section all
3:18 bridges over these bayous
3:34 little self-pumping nozzle there you can
3:34 see that is still
3:35 frozen and if this is not well i almost
3:38 show the weather conditions here and
3:40 there are some
3:42 chunks of ice right there this is
3:45 this is kind of the situation still and
3:48 if you
3:49 put your foot on this there is no
3:51 traction so if you're walking on this
3:52 it's fine
3:53 but if you hit this very easy to take a
3:56 tumble
3:57 and i'm really thankful that i found
4:04 fuel out here because it's been very
4:04 difficult the last few days
4:05 so it is raining it is not snowing but
4:08 it is a
4:09 freezing drain a freezing cold
4:12 rain still only 32 degrees i hope it
4:15 gets up to
4:16 the high 30s to some of this stuff melts
4:19 off and i'm going to head inside and get
4:20 myself
4:21 a very very piping hot caffeinated
4:23 beverage it is much needed
4:25 i have not had coffee yet and i'm a
4:27 little stressed after walking inside i
4:29 was informed that there is no coffee
4:31 because there is no water
4:32 there no restrooms for the truckers no
4:35 showers
4:36 so without water can't make coffee so
4:39 carrying on
4:47 see a lot of truckers are parked over
4:47 here either
4:49 still slumbering it is currently 9 20
4:51 a.m or
4:52 possibly just getting off the road for a
4:54 quick break
4:56 before traversing the inclement weather
5:08 just no it does not seem to be letting
5:08 up
5:10 temperature wise
5:33 about to go through lafayette louisiana
5:33 i was mistaken in that assumption this
5:36 is not
5:36 lafayette i'm going over lake going
5:40 through lake charles i am hundreds of
5:42 feet in the air lake charles
5:45 is down there
5:52 comfort level of zero here dedicated to
5:52 the people of louisiana
5:53 and memory of the oil pioneers
5:57 they have the them listed there doug
6:00 phelps charlie noble
6:04 scott haywood among others this is
6:07 called the
6:08 gator chateau
6:14 it looks as if right over here this
6:14 mechanism
6:21 something fell into it oh it fell
6:21 okay yeah this fell off of
6:24 and tore down that fence the gator
6:27 chateau it is still
6:28 very very chilly there's still quite a
6:31 bit of ice but it has stopped raining
6:33 for
6:34 the moment on my commute this kind of
6:37 old
6:38 timey cabin and there's the gator
6:41 chateau with the signage there
6:43 oh hello you must be
6:48 a wooden gator i'm going to walk through
6:51 the grass because the appropriate
6:53 walkway
6:55 would do a lot of damage if i walked up
6:59 upon it so i'm going to go through the
7:00 cold you're cold
7:02 you stomp your you know the rest
7:06 there is a pelican with a purse
7:10 another metal pelican
7:17 this is the tourist commission area
7:21 this says i love l.a not
7:24 los angeles which is a familiar song
7:28 same guy who wrote the i love l.a song
7:30 also did a lot of the
7:32 the songs for toy story well the the key
7:35 song for toy story
7:36 you got a friend in me i hope i hope i'm
7:40 correct with it was saying that
7:41 now that i said it i should have
7:43 probably done a fact check first but i
7:44 believe so
7:46 look at all this the snow seems to be
7:49 melting it's still 32 degrees oh here we
7:52 go
7:58 houston is 179 miles i pass through
7:58 there
7:59 new orleans 174 miles still to new
8:02 orleans
8:04 i guess so lake charles which i just
8:06 went over that huge bridge
8:08 73 miles and jennings it says
8:12 home there above that gator and in
8:14 jennings i am happy to report as i turn
8:17 the camera around
8:18 that i have procured a
8:21 piping hot caffeinated beverage
8:23 compliments of a drive-through
8:26 and i had to wait in the drive-through
8:28 line got to the front and i had to ask
8:31 do you have coffee and the little nozzle
8:34 here
8:35 needs to be opened and once i open that
8:39 i'm going to take
8:40 my first come oh there it is take my
8:42 first sip
8:44 here in the grab me get back on the
8:46 sidewalk here hopefully it's not slick
8:49 for the day i've already been driving
8:51 for quite a few my 100 miles maybe
8:53 give or take a few hours hours upon
8:56 hours of driving
9:07 yes it is this has been a challenge
9:07 this last the last few days
9:10 four days five days almost a week well
9:13 not quite a week but close it feels like
9:14 two weeks
9:15 in the frozen tundra texas was the worst
9:19 but i'm out of texas and i am moving on
9:22 continuing eastbound all right back in
9:26 the
9:26 in the car it's cold continue driving
9:28 another half hour or so
9:31 and have stumbled upon well didn't
9:34 stumble i just walked up to
9:36 officer ribbit here in rain
9:39 not r-a-i-n like the rain that is
9:42 falling from the heavens
9:44 but r-a-y-n-e
9:47 and here next to this building is a
9:50 mural
9:51 you can see it's still freezing from the
9:53 bottom of that
9:54 officer's car there are some icicles
9:57 this is the
9:58 frog capital of the world
10:01 reign louisiana and speaking of
10:05 rain it has subsided at the last town i
10:08 was in
10:09 as well as here in rain it is not
10:13 raining even though it is brisk and cold
10:16 it is not raining in rain i'm saying
10:18 rain a lot of times
10:20 maybe it's like beetlejuice if i say it
10:22 enough it will start the precipitation
10:24 the icy cold
10:26 precipitation once again this
10:29 is a ginormous frog
10:32 holding a hat he's got a top hat there
10:37 he's in a good mood he is not letting
10:39 this inclement
10:41 cool crisp weather ruin his day saying
10:44 how you doing
10:45 i'm a frog here at the frog capital
10:50 of the world see what this says
10:56 on this little placard here near his
10:59 nether regions
11:00 sculpture of monsieur
11:04 jacques was created for the display on
11:08 august
11:08 6 no august of 2006
11:11 for various reasons the sculpture was
11:13 left unpainted
11:14 or quote
11:18 skinless he is a skinless
11:22 jock
11:30 i'm losing it i need to get to florida
11:30 out of this briskness he's
11:33 holding well he's not holding i was
11:36 going to say a thermal
11:37 he's holding he's got a rose
11:41 by any other name would be
11:45 not all flesh is the same
11:49 but there is one kind for human beings
11:52 another kind for flush of birds
11:54 and another for fish a quote
11:58 in the good book first corinthians 15 39
12:08 according to that all right i'm going to
12:08 continue going
12:10 i like this though this is good this
12:13 seeing flowing water the temperature
12:16 is about to oh i see frog city over
12:20 i'm gonna zoom in yes i am in frog city
12:35 frog city what if that's like spatula
12:35 city from uhf
12:36 i'm moving on before i get attacked by
12:38 frogs
12:40 here's something you don't see too often
12:43 an entire stretch of
12:45 interstate 10 eastbound a huge
12:48 check for miles and miles of trek for
12:51 miles and miles
12:52 is closed off so being rerouted to a
12:56 road that runs
12:56 parallel a few miles up taking a
12:59 different
13:00 a different thoroughfare huge chunk of
13:04 i-10
13:05 closed off so we're being rerouted now
13:07 on highway 190
13:09 east a little bit
13:12 worse road conditions as far as the
13:15 concrete
13:16 and road
13:19 road is concerned not just the ice this
13:21 is much better even though it runs
13:23 parallel to the tent
13:28 definitely better than going over a
13:28 bunch of bridges
13:30 a little bit north of new orleans that
13:33 would be the case
13:34 that's why it's all shut down probably
13:36 that's probably com
13:37 that road i-10 that is shut down
13:39 currently for this 50 miles is probably
13:41 completely covered over and i still
13:44 oh man these bridges this is the frank
13:49 frank desi franken sal desi bridge
13:54 and there's two of them
14:26 there goes
14:26 a train that's a tight squeeze right
14:30 that wrecker's taking the turning that
14:33 corner on the truck in order to make the
14:34 turn
14:36 it has to i'm actually following that
14:39 as well look at the green arrow yeah
14:44 that's a
14:44 tight turn because you see there's
14:45 another truck kind of
14:48 blocking the lane well not really but
14:51 just a tight squeeze
15:03 about to get on the 12 interstate the
15:03 freeway
15:04 and that'll keep continuing east decided
15:06 to
15:07 to fuel up gas prices 202 a gallon
15:12 got the self-pumping mechanism here i
15:14 had half a tank but i figured
15:16 you're better safe than sorry so
15:21 getting a little fuel right here at city
15:24 mart
15:25 getting into some pine tree territory
15:29 oh yeah lots of pine trees
15:33 getting close well getting close to
15:35 florida a couple states away
15:37 just crossed over into iss iss ipvi
15:42 mississippi back in 1974
15:47 i was born in the state
15:51 mississippi tupelo which i am nowhere
15:54 near
15:54 it's north of here i
15:57 am pretty much on the southernest point
16:01 of mississippi so still had a traversing
16:05 eastward this is the welcome center here
16:09 it's interesting to note that the soda
16:12 machines here the vending machines
16:13 are not behind bars sometimes you go to
16:18 certain sections where they have rest
16:20 stops
16:22 where they have them all sealed up where
16:25 you can't even
16:26 you can reach your arms through but
16:29 these are just open to the elements
16:37 vending also side note
16:37 years ago they used to have a piece of
16:41 nasa history while space history
16:44 over there in that grassy area but it
16:46 has since moved
16:48 over to the new science center which is
16:50 closed
16:51 over there so they've moved it
16:54 to over to that section probably an
16:56 admission fee but during these times and
16:58 the weather it's closed
17:00 behind those trees the building off to
17:02 the side
17:03 well not this one this is where they
17:05 have all the pamphlets promoting the
17:07 activities you can do here in the state
17:10 but over
17:10 in this building they used to have some
17:13 items as well
17:15 they still out front they have this the
17:17 sphere item with the arrow
17:20 through it
17:25 right over in that patch of grass you
17:25 can probably even see
17:27 where it kind of yeah you can see kind
17:28 of where it used to be
17:32 the one that was in the exhibit at the
17:33 science center next door now
17:36 used to be right out there placed out
17:37 there on that little
17:39 grassy section
17:46 visited a couple times when i passed
17:46 through here in years past
17:49 still has the walkway you see the
17:50 walkway there
17:52 my hotel is about a half hour from here
17:55 i'm almost done traveling for the day
18:00 ready for a rest as i exit back out onto
18:03 the interstate
18:04 here is the front entrance you see it
18:06 has a
18:07 piece of it's like a paper pieces nice
18:10 cloth
18:11 says closed captioning not
18:29 the one available for formulating and
18:29 getting the wheels in motion
18:31 for the interstate system
18:37 maybe not everyone even realizes that so
18:37 it's a good thing that you pointed that
18:39 out
18:41 thanks big the foot
18:46 i don't know i should probably turn the
18:46 windshield well i don't know it's it's
18:47 raining a little bit
18:48 here at the d doe d-e-d-e-a-u-x
18:54 d-dow business complex
18:57 such a chair the likes have never been
19:00 seen
19:01 well they probably have been seen by a
19:03 lot of passerby traffic but look at the
19:05 comparison
19:07 between the ice machine which is a drive
19:11 it's like a drive up drive-through where
19:13 you can get ice
19:15 pay a couple dollars well you have to
19:17 get out of your car
19:18 get the ice probably not a lot of people
19:19 getting ice today because it is
19:22 a little on the freezing side but since
19:24 1965 this furniture company
19:27 that this chair sits in front of has
19:29 been here
19:31 and this is designated a roadside
19:33 attraction
19:34 oh world's largest
19:38 roadside attraction well it's a roadside
19:42 signifying the world's largest rocking
19:44 chair here in
19:45 gulfport mississippi standing 35 feet
19:49 tall
19:50 and yeah built by the furniture company
19:54 back in 1865 and there is a headstone
19:57 which it's interesting world's largest
20:00 rocking chair designed and built by roy
20:04 d d-e-d-e-a-u-x
20:09 dedicated back in 1995 so it was
20:11 dedicated
20:13 30 years after it was built
20:16 and created
20:30 that's gonna do it for today if you're
20:30 new here please subscribe by doing so
20:32 helps keep you in the loop
20:33 up to future uploads here on this

20:49 two homesteads now
20:51 the very very modest places that i laid
20:55 my head
