0:10 welcome everyone Adam isn't whoo here
0:10 today number 11 of my route 66 adventure
0:14 I have crossed over into the state of
0:16 Illinois and currently standing
0:19 underneath the world's largest ketchup
0:24 join me shall you not a lot of people
0:28 are here not a lot of cars no trucks no
0:31 traffic some would say desolate and
0:37 behind me is the first location of the
0:40 day blasting area it's almost like a
0:43 makeshift homage to Cadillac Ranch
0:47 they're all wedged in the ground this
0:50 former gas station has a relic Pepsi
0:54 machine against the wall that's
0:56 old-school
0:57 this property is home to a rabbit ranch
1:00 we pulled over in hopes of seeing some
1:02 buddies the guy who owns it however he's
1:06 not here on the side of the building the
1:08 final resting place of some of his
1:11 animals he has headstones of all his
1:18 little critters who have passed away
1:20 Junior Ranger Oh look as The Lone Ranger
1:24 masks shaft and snot and similar to the
1:30 Jackrabbit Trading Post here's a photo
1:33 opportunity that you can climb on I
1:35 don't know your name but I want to thank
1:38 you for letting me mount on top of you
1:41 it's kind of off I know I'm yelling and
1:43 I didn't mean to be y'all some English
1:44 and I'm too close to your earlobe I'm
1:47 gonna quiet down
1:54 guess I can't blame him for not being
1:54 open
1:55 he is semi-retired no set hours you just
2:00 got to take a chance on him being here
2:03 just about to leave and the open sign
2:06 illuminated we can now actually go in
2:16 rescued in July of 2009 this is spirits
2:16 and blackberry this is Hubert he's named
2:21 after my dad he was Hubert Henry that's
2:24 the other part his name's Henry down
2:26 there little red bunny and we're down to
2:30 four bunnies our all-time low I started
2:33 off in 1999 were 15 of them and just had
2:39 one yesterday during operation passed
2:42 away so as fact of life you know it's
2:45 hard and but in 2003 that was our glory
2:50 days we had 49 bunnies things have
2:54 really happened in moving and I knew at
2:57 that point I just kind of keep doing it
3:00 the rest of my life I'm 71 now probably
3:02 notice there's a lot of Volkswagens and
3:05 you guys are frail old enough to
3:06 remember what kind they were volkswagen
3:09 round this
3:16 this is another one of those instances
3:16 where 66 runs parallel to a freeway you
3:22 may have heard the expression why did
3:24 the chicken cross the road well I want
3:27 to know why the turkey crossed the
3:31 Mother Road because it's footprints are
3:38 still wedged down deep into the pavement
3:46 a painted box has been drawn around
3:50 where they're located for the 1920s
3:55 these have been here arriving now in
4:04 Springfield and look on the Left looming
4:08 over the road
4:10 it's a muffler man I just realized in
4:13 all my excitement I stated he was on my
4:16 left I was I was completely overwhelmed
4:19 by this guy I didn't know my direction
4:20 left from right now he's on my left I
4:25 bet he has quite an appetite no not him
4:30 him which is a segue for food here at
4:35 the Kozy drive-in their mascot spinning
4:39 around at a decent speed luring us in
4:44 for a meal
4:46 oh yes this place looks awesome anywhere
4:52 that calls themself the self-proclaimed
4:55 birthplace of the corndog must because
4:59 owned and operated by the same family
5:02 since 1949 looks like at one point the
5:08 company was even coach owned with Dairy
5:12 Queen and this is what we're dealing
5:15 with the fries that I am now gonna load
5:18 up with just a little dab of ketchup and
5:22 a cozy dog two of them to be exact
5:27 Jacob is already starting to consume his
5:30 fried potatoes that he got one cosy dog
5:34 and what was that chili chili dog chili
5:38 chili dog goodness
5:59 just outside the door is an Abraham
5:59 Lincoln brick piece and you'll notice
6:01 his nose is worn down which is supposed
6:05 to be good luck if you rub aids nose you
6:09 will have good luck this is a segue to
6:12 the next location his Presidential
6:16 Library and Museum got the whole family
6:20 in the foyer now it's interesting
6:22 because formerly years ago over
6:28 Lincoln's shoulder back there used to be
6:32 John Wilkes Booth but they have removed
6:35 the statue about 20 or so yards back
6:39 and even though Wilkes has been removed
6:43 his name placard is still here let's
6:48 start off with a walkthrough of the
6:51 boyhood years setting foot into the
6:56 cabin there he is doing a little
6:59 learning doing some reading by the
7:01 campfire
7:01 well not the campfire the fire in the
7:04 fireplace inside the cabin wait he's
7:08 sleeping listen
7:15 he's snoring growing up just a bit at
7:15 work in the general store
7:17 as stated right there looks as if he's
7:22 picking out some fabric looking very
7:26 lovingly at Marianne Tod a relationship
7:31 is born I've always heard that some of
7:35 the Disney Imagineers worked on the
7:38 figures here and after looking them
7:40 seeing at them in person I think I think
7:43 it might be true the attention to detail
7:46 is pretty uncanny just hanging out there
7:51 reading the paper while these kids are
7:53 getting very rambunctious it was a very
7:56 rainy day when he gave his farewell
7:59 address to parting Springfield and
8:02 heading to Washington DC a place from
8:05 which he would never return
8:07 let's head now into the White House this
8:12 room messes with your equilibrium the
8:14 doors are slanted and along the walls
8:19 are photographs framed picturing Lincoln
8:23 and lots of different forms including
8:28 the devil himself
8:30 the news media painted him and a lot of
8:34 different lights very long and tedious
8:36 meeting with the Secretary of State the
8:39 interior all his cabinet members
8:43 to be a fly on the wall and those
8:45 conversations would be an interesting
8:48 thing
9:09 these castings were made by a well-known
9:09 sculptor after the nomination for a
9:12 presidency in 1860 and then another one
9:15 just five short years later just before
9:17 his assassination and it states on the
9:21 placard you can see how tired and aged
9:23 his face become after years of conflict
9:27 war is over cause for much celebration
9:33 but it's about to get very somber as we
9:36 enter into Ford's Theater a play is
9:41 underway as a man sneaks in the back
9:45 door leading to the balcony John Wilkes
9:49 Booth was about to change the destiny of
9:53 presidents Lincoln
9:54 and Abe had no idea of what was about to
9:58 happen as he sat and watched that comedy
10:03 that faithful day name engraved on that
10:06 portfolio it's stage right here that it
10:10 could have possibly carried the
10:12 Emancipation Proclamation that's pretty
10:15 cool William Cogswell painted this
10:17 starting at 1862 he didn't complete it
10:20 till 1868 the fascinating thing is mr.
10:25 Lincoln himself sat for the beginning
10:28 portion of this portrait that's pretty
10:32 amazing
10:33 learn something new every day he was the
10:36 original hipster he did however have
10:39 some very good sayings that all of us
10:41 can learn by leave nothing for tomorrow
10:44 which can be done today
10:47 you can even cozy up cozy up with this
10:51 guy kind of with them as you get your 40
10:54 weeks I feel like in a lot of ways the
10:57 marketability of our 16th president is
10:59 slowly turning in to Colonel Sanders oh
11:02 my gosh this is amazing it's a wind-up
11:06 but it's only his head so it's just his
11:09 head
11:10 there's feet right below his beard you
11:12 wind it up and he just strolls across
11:14 your cabinet or tabletop
11:30 that's gonna do it for today if you have
