0:14 this mural supposedly he was born where
0:17 this building now stands hence the
0:20 painting and that's not the only pop
0:22 culture icon this city is known for
0:24 Rocky Balboa the silhouette of the
0:28 statue in front of the Museum of Art
0:31 it's not how hard you hit it's how hard
0:34 you can get hit and keep moving forward
0:36 that's how winning is done not only am I
0:40 getting a wave of emotion over me but
0:43 also a little bit of energy there's
0:48 something I must do

1:25 that you rarely visit and that is the

2:13 corner is Geno's steaks and on this
2:18 corner is Pat's
2:20 king of steaks and while there is no
2:23 shortage of other establishments selling
2:26 the food of this namesake these two have
2:30 been battling it out just a stone's
2:32 throw from each other for years now you
2:37 could even equate it to the Italian
2:39 stallion versus Apollo Creed
2:43 that made this area so famous who will
2:47 win
2:48 I'm about to find out right now the neon
2:52 sign with crown states that paths was
2:55 the inventor and the originator and this
2:59 historical marker goes on to say that it
3:01 began in 1930 no matter which one you
3:04 choose neither of them accept credit
3:08 cards so you must have a handful of cash
3:11 if you want to go home with one of these
3:15 delicious steaks these trash cans are
3:18 painted like basketball players
3:20 look there's the eyes and teeth and
3:24 mouth oh she's winking at me

4:53 unlike the counterpart 1930 across the

4:58 however Geno's has a separate building
5:01 and a store keeping up nicely with the
5:04 color scheme
5:06 you can see the reflection of the cheese
5:09 fries in the front door window in this
5:13 overgrown lot is an old mural with
5:16 paintings of Frankie Avalon Bobby Rydell
5:19 Eddie Fisher and a newer mural here of
5:24 Pat and Harry Oliveri who were the
5:27 cofounders of the original Pat's king of
5:31 the stakes right there now I just need a
5:35 local residence to help me consume crazy

6:09 that is a shiny 25 cent piece is the

6:36 first since I'm a little new to this
6:38 there's some steps here on how to order

6:52 provolone provolone is my favorite okay
6:54 the one I recommend but the cheese was
6:56 also quite popular there are the options
6:59 right there and we have no thanks so
7:01 much they got a cut in half so we can so
7:04 we can share a few condiments available
7:07 as well these peppers who is even like
7:10 even some other peppers down in here and
7:14 assorted goodness in these vats even
7:17 some relish salt and pepper and mustard
7:21 and this is what we're dealing with we
7:24 did not ask for a specific cheese they
7:27 just gave us this particular one with
7:31 the cheese whiz type topping right there
7:36 you can see it's pretty good-sized and
7:38 first impression without biting into it
7:40 it looks it looks rather tasty and see
7:45 all the meat down in there and the bread
7:49 looks to be a little bit hardened and
7:52 slightly toasted on the outside
8:00 nice even the napkins are promoting the
8:00 establishment probably gonna need plenty
8:03 of these all right grab yes grab your
8:05 side I'll grab my side what's presented
8:09 present it towards the camera we just go

8:43 gooey goodness bright goes down inside
8:46 but I think the provolone tastes a
8:47 little better it's not like you're gonna
8:50 get a bad one either way though it's not
8:54 bad it's been a long time so I have to
8:57 stay safe to say after eating half of
8:59 this one and a half from Geno's I'm
9:02 gonna be probably pretty full how much
9:05 my stomach will be happy

9:23 it's getting better Maura eat it
9:26 like the first couple bites were okay
9:28 but now that it's like working its way
9:32 out of my mouth is starting to the
9:34 flavor starting to come out it is
9:35 flavorful how many of these from all
9:43 over Philly think you've had in your
9:45 lifetime of living here more than I can
9:48 count

10:34 think this option we're gonna go with
10:37 the traditional up top and instead of
10:41 getting the whiz which we got a moment
10:43 ago we're gonna go with the provolone
10:46 this time even some accessories here as
10:51 well relish cherry peppers okay thank

10:57 this is Geno's we went for the provolone
11:00 this time and the interesting trivia
11:02 Pat's invented the cheesesteak blame it
11:05 at the steak sandwich Geno's was the
11:07 first of a cheese on it
11:08 oh they kind of perfected it in a way
11:11 and it's obviously the cheese is not
11:14 quite as noticeable as the whiz version
11:16 provolone is kind of it's almost like
11:19 hidden in there not quite as bold three
11:22 two one
11:30 oh yeah noticeably different the bread
11:30 is different the bread is softer here
11:33 than it has
11:39 I'm dripping grease
11:39 I like the provolone taste better but I
11:42 like how the cheese whiz really gets in
11:44 there
11:45 yeah the provolone me it's not as not as
11:47 bold definitely a cheesier flavor at
11:50 paths versus Gino but I think the steak
11:54 aspect and the bread I like better here
11:58 it's tough though they're both really
12:00 good
12:17 it'll be very difficult to eat two of
12:17 these two full ones of these it's good
12:19 thing that we have them but we did see a
12:24 guy in line it was going back for a
12:25 second so the guy has been done well I
12:28 was talking to him earlier before you
12:30 got here
12:30 he got one from each then he went to
12:33 another one down the road and that was
12:34 back to this one and he would eat a
12:36 couple bites and then take food to his
12:38 wife and kids in the car oh it would eat
12:41 the rest of it and he's trying to hit as
12:42 many as humanly possible but it keeps
12:46 coming back to Gino's and hats well Gina
12:48 isn't bad to the two most famous if you
12:49 had to guess how many establishments
12:51 just in Greater Philadelphia do you
12:54 think there are two have cheesesteaks
12:57 all right it's gotta be hundreds it's
13:00 gonna be under it's living here the
13:03 first thing you hear people say when
13:04 they get here is I gotta go get a
13:05 cheesesteak that's me first thing
13:10 besides I've in Iran the rocky stuff so
13:13 I earned it I earned I made to the top
13:16 so that's the first thing you would do
13:17 get off the truck and be like I want to
13:19 get the local cuisine whatever it is
13:21 yeah
13:40 we're getting shocked back there sounded
13:40 like a bug zapper don't see one though
13:50 no bugs or no zappers I'd like to know
13:50 where to get a big vinyl sticker like
13:54 that it's on the electrical box here
13:56 around the side originally I was going
14:00 to get one of each of the steaks and eat
14:02 them at either/or location you know have
14:05 both of them and do a taste test let's
14:07 say at this table it's a good thing I
14:09 didn't because the rule states they are
14:11 only allowed to eat food from this place
14:15 at this table so I think the way we did
14:18 it by flipping the coin is probably I'll
14:20 be the best option peeking in the window
