1:08 two-room
1:10 accommodation the museum and then 120
1:13 miles over to you know where we're going
1:14 to end

1:19 inviting you to join me i should have
1:22 had my i should have my coffee on me
1:24 i'm inviting you to join me

1:30 and then
1:31 venturing over the state line back into
1:33 tennessee to memphis
1:35 shall you she's having a one-on-one
1:39 encounter with the king long live the
1:41 king
1:42 what's it like looking into the king's
1:44 eyes
1:46 intimidating yep it really is in a way
1:49 it is
1:49 it is a little intimidating homecoming
1:52 concert back in september 26th
1:54 of 1956 the hardware company still
1:58 standing after all this time where he
2:00 got his first guitar
2:01 classic car alert in 1946 his mother
2:05 gladys
2:07 brought him here to buy a bicycle once
2:09 they arrived
2:10 he saw another item that he had his eye
2:13 on his mother said that that might be a
2:14 little too dangerous we're not going to
2:16 get you that instead
2:18 she was happy about purchasing a guitar
2:21 yeah
2:22 elves come in by his face good time you
2:24 know was this where the guitars were
2:25 when he was in here in this one
2:27 behind the counter right away oh they
2:28 were over behind behind that counter
2:30 right there oh over there okay that's
2:31 where it was over there
2:32 behind there all right they had a little
2:34 music bomb right there behind it
2:36 okay yeah you see the x on the float
2:38 boys do it though oh okay
2:40 let me show you today okay
2:51 oh there it is are we okay right then
2:51 right there agent libya
2:53 his mama bought him that good time
2:54 that's so cool that's very
2:56 very very coming yeah that's where we
2:58 were getting some i'm getting some of
3:00 this merchandise here if i didn't even
3:01 realize that was down there thank you so
3:02 much
3:17 attended here up until 1948 well half of
3:17 the year
3:18 before he completed all of it moved to
3:22 ended up moving to memphis and said
3:24 for his classmates he would play guitar
3:26 on the lunch hour
3:35 johnny's driving they have barbecue
3:35 and that's not the only option on the
3:37 menu
3:46 another one of these oh here we go
3:46 there's another
3:48 little plaque here
3:55 he stopped here for one of his favorite
3:55 meals a cheeseburger
3:56 and an rc cola or as he called it an
4:00 roc my grandparents
4:03 resided in aberdeen mississippi
4:07 not too far away and my grandmother used
4:09 to always make pimento cheese sandwiches
4:13 every time i think of pimento cheese
4:16 reminds me of my grandma here in
4:19 mississippi
4:20 so are you guys from l.a okay they're
4:23 not doing any
4:24 any indoor dining but right over there
4:27 is the so he used to sit in that booth
4:29 there
4:30 did he he returned here when he was
4:32 older too and sat over there as well
4:35 i guess he said everywhere he said
4:36 everywhere but that's the elvis booth
4:38 yes sir that's when they've got the
4:39 picture above him in it nice right over
4:41 there in the corner
4:43 was kind of hoping to sit at the booth
4:45 but during these times yeah
4:52 not available and this is what we're
4:52 dealing with i went with i had to go
4:54 with the rc
4:54 you know it's like kind of a win in row
4:56 moment they added on some lettuce and
4:58 tomato that looks
5:00 that looks great got onion rings and
5:02 then natalie got you got
5:04 a pulled pork plate how's the rc
5:08 it's kind don't think i've ever had our
5:10 sequels never had our sake
5:28 got a few minutes before the museum
5:28 complex at the bottom of the hill opens
5:30 up
5:31 you see the water towers of tupelo in
5:33 the distance
5:35 and up here at the pinnacle overlooking
5:39 the town
5:40 if you will is
5:43 young elvis
5:59 a similar vehicle to this plymouth that
6:00 the family used to move
6:01 from here in tupelo for the nearly a two
6:05 hour drive
6:07 to memphis
6:45 okay so this house was built in 1934 by
6:45 lauren his brother
6:46 and your dad barney took out 180
6:49 wounded by materials to build this time
6:51 on january 8 1935
6:53 elvis and his identical twin brother was
6:55 born in this house
6:57 his brother's name was jesse garan he
6:59 was 35 minutes older than elvis but he
7:01 was still born
7:02 he's still locked headed here and two
7:04 fathers are not real sure where um
7:06 vernon did come back until on friday but
7:07 it could
7:09 so elvis lived in this house up until he
7:10 was two and a half
7:12 until the house got repossessed by the
7:13 bank because barney couldn't pay back
7:15 that hundred and eighty dollar loan took
7:17 down
7:17 when they took the house they also took
7:19 the car with it because during this time
7:21 garden wasn't good so at this time
7:22 they're living here in dublin other
7:23 locations they stayed here in key club
7:25 until elvis was 13
7:27 and they packed up on the 1939
7:29 employment like we have out front that's
7:31 a replica of the cars they make them at
7:32 this time
7:34 when they move to memphis i look to find
7:35 a better home and a better place to work
7:37 because at this time it's extremely hard
7:38 to find work here
7:40 one side is original but vernon did come
7:42 back to help us when we first opened to
7:44 pick out hardship like they would have
7:45 had
7:46 and he arranged it like they would have
7:47 had um the only things original in the
7:50 house is the fireplace and the stove
7:52 um they all can take pictures inside so
7:54 if y'all have any questions just ask
7:56 and this was built next to vernon's
7:58 parents house right
7:59 i believe so that's so cool
8:02 and there was a house on on either side
8:04 of this on out that window and then out
8:06 this window too
8:18 we go in this room
8:27 is it set up the same where the bedroom
8:27 was in the front like that
8:28 yes the kitchen in the in the back
8:31 bedroom in the front so he would have
8:34 been born in this room
8:36 right in here wow
8:40 that's amazing such a tiny home
8:43 just two rooms
8:51 front door just a few feet away from the
8:51 back door
9:16 every time i visit here i'm reminded of
9:16 a song by elton john
9:18 called porch swing in tupelo he sang a
9:22 song
9:22 about when he visited here he sat on
9:26 this court swing
9:27 in elvis house and he wrote a song about
9:30 it
9:35 like at night at one time years ago
9:35 probably 10 years ago i came up here and
9:37 visited at night
9:38 like two in the morning and just sat
9:40 here on the swing now gonna take the
9:42 drive from here
9:43 over to memphis i'm not gonna take the
9:46 plymouth
9:46 and take the rental car that's over
9:59 it's only available in small so it
9:59 wasn't in my size
10:12 there it is states born in tupelo on
10:12 january 8
10:14 1935 and made it from
10:17 tupelo to memphis
10:21 and up the hill is graceland
10:32 bouncing over
10:34 oh wow we're going up
10:44 only allowed to document video wise
10:44 anything that's outdoors
10:46 so anything inside has to be photos only
10:55 that's the policies yes
10:56 look at
11:09 wow you're gonna come back after you
11:09 pull forward
11:10 okay be sure not to record okay no
11:13 recording in the house right
11:14 okay only outside never no never
11:18 not even a gift shop oh okay let's go
11:56 i've heard so many different reviews and
11:56 whatnot from other people about going
11:58 inside but i have to say
12:00 even though a lot of people think it's
12:02 very dated which it is
12:04 it is i don't know it was just really
12:06 impressive to see
12:08 inside this is the living room and then
12:11 going over of course you're not allowed
12:12 to go upstairs
12:14 it really kind of exceeded my
12:15 expectations i did not think
12:18 i would be as enamored with the decor
12:20 inside but
12:21 as the tour continued this is looking
12:24 into i believe that was
12:25 where his parents resided when they
12:28 would come to visit
12:29 don't don't quote me on that i'm just
12:30 kind of trying to remember what the
12:32 the self-guided chore said through the
12:36 headphones this is the dining room
12:40 kind of scrolling across looking into
12:42 the kitchen
12:43 i love the carpet and the
12:46 just they had all the appliances there
12:49 it's really amazing
12:50 this is looking also into the kitchen as
12:53 well
12:54 you know very very 70s retro style and
12:57 this is the first peak at the jungle
12:59 room
13:00 going from the angle you kind of you
13:02 kind of go through here and then you do
13:04 go down some stairs and then into the
13:07 bottom level and then back up so you're
13:09 gonna get another peek
13:10 okay this is you know what room this was
13:12 called was like a yell it was like all
13:13 yellow decor
13:14 on the tv room the tv room so you go
13:17 through the tv room this was like
13:19 i guess like the little bar in the tv
13:21 room that is amazing said he installed
13:23 the three tvs when he had heard that i
13:27 think it was a president
13:29 who watched three different news
13:31 televisions
13:33 and he thought that was a good idea so
13:34 he said heck it i'm gonna do that in
13:37 inside graceland so we put three tvs in
13:40 this is really fascinating the the pool
13:43 table
13:43 the pool room had cloth
13:47 all along like almost like curtain style
13:49 but it's like
13:50 i guess like curtains folded together on
13:52 the roof
13:54 and the side and over here
13:57 said one of his friends was over tried
13:58 to do a trick shot
14:00 and busted up the the table itself you
14:04 see the cloth on the table there is
14:05 ripped
14:07 and this is the jungle room looking over
14:08 you see like the little tiki
14:10 chair this used to be the back a back
14:12 porch
14:13 but turned it into an extension of the
14:16 house
14:17 later on in the house's existence that's
14:20 like one view of it and this is looking
14:22 over there the waterfall was turned off
14:24 but this table not the table but the
14:26 seat in the background there had
14:28 hands on the chair itself that little
14:31 love seat
14:33 over there in the corner and this is
14:34 looking
14:36 looking another another angle of of the
14:39 jungle room now we're going into
14:41 vernon's office and this was he put no
14:44 loafing
14:45 in the office this is looking out of the
14:47 back door of the office this is around
14:49 the
14:50 not the back side of water it's the back
14:51 side of graceland
14:54 and this is into vernon's office
14:58 as well and the thing is neat about i
15:01 think it's neat about this
15:02 is there was a news or press conference
15:06 where
15:06 elvis was sitting at one of these desks
15:08 in front of these file cabinets
15:10 and file cabinets are still the same
15:12 they have really kept everything intact
15:14 this is also
15:15 around the back of the property looking
15:18 up at it this was on this
15:19 on the second floor that do not allow
15:22 you up out but they do have
15:23 elvis desk as well there's a photo
15:27 very stylish photo of the king and it
15:30 says restricted area
15:32 that is the pool with the meditation
15:34 garden in the distance
15:35 you notice that signage says please do
15:38 not throw coins
15:40 in the pool this is where he would ride
15:42 the horses around
15:44 and this is where he built this later as
15:47 an extension
15:48 onto the back of the property where he
15:50 would play racquetball
15:52 racquetball court there behind that
15:53 glass and this is looking back in where
15:55 you could just kind of hang out and
15:56 watch
15:57 watch him play a riveting game of
15:59 racquetball and then the meditation
16:01 garden you can see the pool in the
16:02 distance there
16:03 and that's it that's that's graceland
16:07 my first time visiting well worth it
16:11 the package deal was a little pricey but
16:18 how often do you get to go inside the
16:18 home
16:18 the king of rock and roll ended up
16:20 getting a little more merchandise
16:22 as well a magnet hill tcb in a flash
16:25 taking care of business in a flash with
16:26 the lightning bolt
16:28 and i really like this which will go on
16:30 the fridge it has a
16:31 gold record it has a guitar that's going
16:35 to do it for today

17:20 i almost forgot to mention the other day
17:23 met up with tyler dean his dad
17:25 who did the artwork for
17:29 elvis the reflection photo looking in
17:31 the mirror did
17:33 he created this and signed it
17:37 to me and it kind of ties into today's
17:40 subject matter
17:42 big thank you pretty awesome
