Transcript

Welcome everyone. Adam the Woo here. As
0:02
the recording of this August 9th, 2025,
0:07
40 years ago today,
0:09
one of my all-time favorite '8s films
0:12
came out in the movie theater. I'm
0:13
wearing an appropriate t-shirt. Peewee's
0:16
Big Adventure. In fact, the first time I
0:20
ever came to California, arrived on the
0:22
West Coast was 2013. never had been in
0:25
LA, SoCal, or California before then.
0:30
Two filming locations I did that I
0:32
wanted to do my entire life since seeing
0:34
the movies back in ' 85 or Back to the
0:36
Future and Peewee's Big Adventure. And
0:39
it just it holds a special place in my
0:41
heart. I've seen the movies so many
0:42
times. Almost every day growing up, I
0:44
would watch, you know, BTTF,
0:47
BTTF. Yeah. Back to the Future and
0:51
Peewee's Big Adventure.
0:53
And tonight at Warner Brothers,
0:57
they're having an event for the 40th
0:59
anniversary where a group of people, I
1:00
think the theater holds about four or
1:02
500 people, get to watch the movie
1:04
together. But before that, they're going
1:06
to have some screen used props, some
1:08
folks from the movie are going to be
1:10
there as well. They're going to have
1:12
some special foods, treats. They're also
1:14
going to have some golf cart tours
1:16
around the property to see the filming
1:18
locations.
1:20
It's going to be quite the uh the
1:21
shindig. and I'm inviting you to join
1:24
me. Also, I'm standing right here in the
1:27
parking lot of the hotel I'm staying at.
1:30
I'll get going, head over to Warner. It
1:32
starts at 5:00, but I'm going to get
1:34
there a little bit early and just see uh
1:36
see what's going on once once I arrive
1:38
over there. I'm I'm excited for this.
1:41
Curious to see what's going to take
1:43
place. I'm inviting you to join me.
1:46
Shall you? I don't know what it is about
1:48
1985. It's some of my all-time favorite
1:51
films. I was 11 years old in 1985. You
1:53
know, I just celebrated the Goonies 40th
1:56
in Atoria. I'm always celebrating Back
1:57
to the Future. That's their 40th this
1:59
year. And now it's Peewee's time. Tell
2:01
them large March sent you. All right. It
2:05
is windy up here on the top of the
2:06
parking structure looking down. And I
2:09
would imagine I don't know what's on the
2:10
itinerary for where we're going to stop
2:12
off at, but I would imagine
2:14
the psychic Madam Ruby spot right there
2:17
probably be as well. The regular tours
2:18
are going on. That's not part of the
2:20
pee-wee tour. And then probably the
2:22
Annie
2:24
alley there where Tim Burton comes out.
2:27
We don't take kindly to strangers come
2:28
around here.
2:31
>> Scared me. You scared me, Micah.
2:33
>> Yeah.
2:33
>> What do you got on here? You got the bow
2:35
tie.
2:35
>> Yeah. Feel like it's a proper evening to
2:37
wear a bow tie.
2:39
>> This weather is is great. You just need
2:41
a hat cuz the sun. But
2:42
>> I didn't bring a hat, though.
2:43
>> I'm not sweating.
2:53
I should have brought a hat. Yeah, Micah
2:53
just noticed that on Madam Rubies.
2:56
Can't really see it from here cuz I'm
2:58
kind of zoomed in, but they've got the
2:59
Madam Ruby sign on the window there. So,
3:01
that's exciting. You're going to do it
3:02
upright. Peewee's come home.
3:04
>> He's come home. Oh, yeah. You can hear
3:07
what he does.
3:10
>> Oh, he's right. He's sped up.
3:17
I know you're what am I?
3:17
>> Uh-huh.
3:27
>> I think it's like my name's Pewy Herman.
3:27
>> I know you are, but what am I?
3:30
>> And I don't know what it is about 1985
3:32
movies, but Jay is also here.
3:35
>> Is what it is.
3:36
>> We were We saw each other.
3:37
>> Stay away.
3:37
>> Goonies in Atoria. And now we're in LA.
3:40
>> That was the best
3:41
>> going to an event. Although I didn't
3:44
have huge expectations for that one and
3:46
we know how it turned out. So tonight
3:48
could be the same thing. Yeah,
3:51
>> we were just talking about the show the
3:52
studio the more recent popular show that
3:54
was filmed down here. This was the front
3:56
of the building facade there. There's a
3:57
bunch of scenes where they're towing
3:58
cars and all that over there. So
4:00
>> So this is the Franklidd Wright
4:02
building.
4:02
>> Yeah, they built they built it on the
4:03
front of it. The facade of it right
4:05
there.
4:06
>> And there's Walton's Mountain.
4:09
And then the Hollywood sign is right
4:12
>> on the other side of that.
4:14
>> Oh, you want to give your new uh podcast
4:16
a shout out? The what are you doing with
4:18
Brandon from BC Delorean?
4:19
>> Please check out a blockbuster year.
4:21
First year we're doing is 1985.
4:23
>> There you go.
4:24
>> A blockbuster year on YouTube.
4:26
>> 40th anniversary.
4:28
>> Yep. With BC Delorean.
4:29
>> You going to talk you going to talk
4:30
about your night here?
4:31
>> For sure. Are you kidding me?
4:32
>> All right.
4:32
>> Absolutely. He wanted to be here very
4:34
very badly, by the way.
4:35
>> I know. He had he had he had prior
4:37
plans.
4:37
>> Yeah. But to just watch your thoughts on
4:39
it later. [laughter]
4:40
>> Exactly.
4:42
>> GIV is here. You got a memory about
4:43
Peewee?
4:44
>> Yeah. That's why I have kind of like a
4:46
little connection to it because he was
4:47
the first movie star I've seen because
4:50
uh I arrived in LA and everybody walks
4:53
on Hollywood Boulevard and I think
4:55
what's going on over there? That was a
4:57
star ceremony and I'm looking at I asked
4:59
the people who is this guy and they said
5:00
it's Pey Herman. I said who's Pee
5:03
Herman?
5:03
>> Just casually walked up to Pee-Wee Star
5:05
C. Yeah. [laughter] I had no I had no
5:08
idea who he was because I'm from
5:10
Germany, you know. I'm from Germany and
5:12
I never heard about PB Herman before. So
5:14
all the YouTubers always talk about
5:16
>> how their childhood was uh
5:19
>> Yeah. Peeway
5:19
>> with PB Herman, you know. And I was like
5:21
and I when I saw him later on I saw it
5:24
on television shows and but I always
5:26
thought it was like why is his voice so
5:27
weird, [laughter] you know? I couldn't
5:30
really I couldn't really laugh like
5:31
everybody else was laughing. I didn't
5:33
understand what's going on.
5:34
>> What was the first peewee movie you saw?
5:36
Uh, Big Adventure, a preview's Big
5:38
Adventure. First one I've seen.
5:39
>> Glad you didn't see Big Top first.
5:42
>> All right, here is the lanyard. 40th
5:44
anniversary 2025 Warner Brothers Studio
5:46
Tour with the bow tie right there. All
5:48
right, I got a little button here.
5:50
>> Following our guide in. This is a one of
5:53
the team members here made these and I
5:55
asked, "Can I get one?" He goes, "Yep,
5:56
this is here's one for you. This is just
5:57
for you." So, here you are, but what am
5:59
I? And here's the uh here's all the
6:02
items they're going to have for sale.
6:04
>> You're welcome.
6:05
>> Oh, hello. Oh,
6:08
>> good to see you. How
6:09
>> you doing, Zach?
6:12
>> They've all got the bow ties on.
6:22
>> Everybody's so happy.
6:22
>> Guys walking away from me.
6:23
>> Oh,
6:25
>> let's see. We're just going to move by
6:27
my good friend Fry.
6:29
>> Fry, do that. Do that famous laugh with
6:31
the viewers, please.
6:32
>> There we go. Fry. I'm going to go fry.
6:35
>> That's great.
6:36
>> Oh man, this is the big thing right now.
6:39
Public envy.
6:40
>> You guys probably know Angels with Dirty
6:41
Faces though because there is a parody
6:43
of it in the movie called Home Alone. It
6:45
is Angels with Filthy Souls. It's the
6:46
machine gun scene. It's the tell me you
6:48
love me and the Merry Christmas you
6:49
filthy animals area proper now. And you
6:52
probably already spotted it. There she
6:54
is. Our iconic Warner Brothers water
6:55
tower standing at about 133 ft.
6:59
>> Anyone know how much water is currently
7:00
in that tower?
7:01
>> Zero.
7:02
>> That is correct. Only Yako, Wacko, and
7:04
Dot are animation are inside.
7:06
>> That's right.
7:07
>> I like to say that's where we hide the
7:08
Superman money. [laughter]
7:10
>> $1 billion dollars in there, guys.
7:11
Crazy.
7:13
>> Now, coming up in New York, so all the
7:14
fire escapes you see here. They're
7:16
actually from New York. They're from
7:17
junkyards, scrapyards. Brought them over
7:18
here. Unfortunately, he did pass away
7:20
before the film premiered. So, to honor,
7:22
we named this street Hennessy Street.
7:24
And then to your right next to that
7:25
tree, I think it's being covered by
7:26
those cones, funnily enough. Uh that is
7:28
the original uh the plaque for Mr. Mr.
7:30
Dale Hennessy in front of the original
7:32
Annie Orphanage that is Mrs.
7:33
>> Hy.
7:34
>> And for my aid black trim building right
7:36
up uh to your left where it says
7:38
Geraldine's flower shop, that is the
7:39
comic book shop from the Big Bang
7:41
Theory.
7:42
>> And now here, this is what I uh the
7:44
moment you've waited for. No, I'm just
7:45
kidding. But the green trim building to
7:47
your left coming up, we have
7:49
affectionately called the book because
7:52
guess what? This is the pet store from
7:54
Peew's Big Adventure.
7:56
>> He saves all the cute animals first,
7:58
saves the snakes last. Uh, funny enough,
8:00
Paul Rubin's deathly afraid of snakes.
8:03
For real, he really did pass out right
8:05
over there.
8:05
>> Wow.
8:06
>> Let me play you that L now.
8:08
>> Oh my god.
8:09
>> Coming up right over here. You guys
8:10
already noticed. This is our Cinnamon
8:12
Alley proper bud for you guys. This is
8:14
>> Madam Rubies right over there.
8:18
>> There it is.
8:24
>> Here. Let me actually get closer so you
8:24
guys can get that. There we go.
8:30
Tell me why I'm here first.
8:30
>> Down below to pick up Gizmo the Mwai.
8:32
>> Mwai means little demon in Cantonese. If
8:34
only he knew Cantonese, folks.
8:37
>> And yes, of course, that is the same
8:39
alleyway word. Uh, the little mugging is
8:42
about to happen. But guess what? We also
8:44
did a lot of our Batman's here. We did
8:46
Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, and
8:47
Batman Returns. In Batman Returns, Mike
8:50
glides down from the roof of that
8:51
building fighting some baddies here. We
8:53
also did uh Batman and Robin. Uh, that
8:55
is where Chris Odell, who plays Robin,
8:57
drives the Batmobile from the alleyway
8:58
into the street behind you. That's
8:59
right. And fun story with that one.
9:01
Chris Odell desperately wanted to drive
9:03
the Batmobile because, you know, why
9:05
wouldn't you, right? Uh, we told him no.
9:07
>> Cost of production over $1 million to
9:09
replace.
9:11
>> Just the B.
9:12
>> Oh, now I remember. It's in the jungle.
9:16
>> Now, back to the jungle. And I see a
9:19
couple of our tour carts coming out this
9:21
year. So, we're just going to go get a
9:23
little This meant to represent Havana,
9:25
Cuba because we couldn't go to Cuba
9:27
because there was a uh let's call it a
9:28
missile crisis going on.
9:30
>> Let's call it.
9:31
>> Now, right in front of us, we have a
9:33
cabin and a barn. This cabin and barn
9:35
built in the early 2000s for a series
9:37
known as
9:37
>> the production staff on the lot whether
9:39
or not they wanted sets or offices. They
9:41
said yes to both. So, these sets have
9:43
offices inside of them. Some of the
9:44
favorite TV shows like All American,
9:46
Abbott Elementary, Shrinking, Sex Lives
9:49
of College Girls. I could go on, but
9:50
we'd be here all day. And had you come
9:52
on a week day, you would have seen cars
9:54
lined up on the sides of the street or
9:55
even in the driveway. They would have
9:57
been cars from writers, directors,
9:58
producers, and actors of the same
10:00
series.
10:01
And we found our third bow tie. Put
10:05
that. Let's see that next clip.
10:15
>> Don't worry if it has a red bow tie. You
10:15
can take photos of that. That was in
10:16
Monster Squad
10:18
>> fighting the Universal Monsters. We did
10:20
Lost Boys right over here as well.
10:22
They're filling up the cantens to fight
10:23
some vampires. For my classic fans, that
10:26
was used in Oceans 11, the original one
10:28
with Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack. Uh,
10:30
if we have any fans of the Waltons that
10:32
was also used in the Waltons.
10:34
>> You know who the preacher in the Walton
10:35
was?
10:36
>> No, I don't.
10:37
>> John Ritter.
10:37
>> Oh, really? Wait, really?
10:40
is heading us to the front lot now.
10:43
That's where all of our soundstages
10:44
live. That's also where gate 2 is inert
10:47
county back in my childhood.
10:48
>> Here's the inside of a sound stage. You
10:50
can take photos of the buildings. You
10:52
can take photos of plaques. Don't take
10:53
photos of people or parking spots. That
10:55
is a red flag for me. And right over
10:57
here, uh, this is a soundstage 26. You
11:00
guys can see the two and a half men's
11:02
stage plaque. That's why that exists
11:03
right over there. Whenever a TV show or
11:06
sitcom lives in a sound stage for more
11:07
than 10 years, it gets a plaque just
11:09
filling in the gaps for you. We say, why
11:12
build a set when you can just paint on a
11:13
wall? Currently, stage 26 is home to the
11:17
new Rachel Senate project.
11:23
>> You think we can drive through that,
11:23
guys?
11:24
>> Let's try it. Why not?
11:31
>> And we're going to slow down before
11:31
security starts chasing us.
11:33
>> Yeah. Right over here. There is that
11:35
backdrop.
11:37
>> 27.
11:39
>> And obviously, like I said,
11:40
>> we're trying to catch road.
11:41
>> There we go. [laughter]
11:43
Do you know where the street where they
11:44
did the twisted sister video?
11:46
>> Ooh, you're going to see that at
11:47
actually at the very end of your tour
11:49
when I drop you guys off at the SJR
11:50
theater. Cool.
11:51
>> Yeah, that twisted sister video is uh
11:54
right on that road. It was uh actually
11:57
uh before the uh instant bikes that was
11:59
used in the filming. So, if you ever
12:00
head to the Alamo, there is Peewee's
12:03
bike.
12:03
>> So, they so they dug a basement just
12:05
because it was
12:06
>> That's what I'm thinking. No, uh it was
12:07
also used as an event space, too.
12:10
>> Yeah, there you go.
12:10
>> That's crazy. There you go.
12:15
>> Also,
12:15
>> let's see. Let's see. There's the Milton
12:17
B.
12:18
>> And there is America
12:20
>> and tall as me because William Randolph
12:22
hers's girlfriend wanted one of the big
12:23
on stage.
12:24
>> You got it.
12:26
>> And if you know where you are on a map
12:27
of Burbank, that logo is pointed at our
12:29
friends at Universal.
12:30
>> Yep.
12:31
>> If you go to Universal and you're going
12:32
to Nintendo Land or Jurassic World, you
12:34
can see us from their escalators. Yep.
12:36
>> Jack Warner coated a friendly wave. No,
12:38
it's not.
12:40
Stage 20.
12:41
>> Apparently, stage 20, I believe, is
12:43
holding for that new HBO series called
12:45
The Pit and uh is home to a new DC uh
12:48
property, HBO series that's coming out.
12:51
All I can say is it is DC. And of
12:53
course, you should probably watch
12:54
Superman. Oh, did I give away too much?
12:56
Who knows?
12:58
>> Now, to your left, we have
12:59
>> But be warning, even though that's in
13:01
half an hour for a comedy, not half an
13:03
hour for filming, it is four to six
13:04
hours of filming. And once you heard the
13:06
joke a fourth time, it is no longer
13:08
funny.
13:10
Now we are entering back our front lot
13:12
and you guys can probably already spot
13:13
it. There is the courthouse. Now that
13:16
courthouse has been with us since the
13:17
50s and famously used in the 60s Batman
13:20
with Adam West. That is Commissioner
13:21
Gordon's office for Gotham City Hall.
13:23
You remember there's a great scene of
13:25
both Batman and Robin hopping off of the
13:26
Batmobile and running up the steps to
13:28
that office. If you know anything about
13:30
the Screen Actors Guild rules each
13:32
episode was about $1 million, so it
13:34
didn't last that long.
13:36
>> Uh currently it is home to Abbott
13:37
Elementary. Abid Elementary.
13:39
>> Did we finish?
13:40
>> It is the finish line. Finish line.
13:42
>> Well, while we're here, guys, did anyone
13:44
not get a Tootsie Roll?
13:46
>> I didn't get one.
13:47
>> I will throw one at you. There we go.
13:49
I'm so sorry. I'll get you a new one.
13:50
>> No, no, it's good. My second rule.
13:52
>> Is that the House of Wax Theater right
13:54
there?
13:54
>> That is the House of Wax Theater.
13:56
>> Where?
13:57
>> All right. They ended up dropping us off
13:59
here at the Warner Brothers Theater,
14:01
which is where everyone's going to be
14:02
watching the movie very, very shortly in
14:03
about half hour or an hour. The Warner
14:05
Brothers Studio Tour Hollywood presents
14:07
Peewee's Big Adventure. They're going to
14:09
be doing a costume contest before the
14:11
costume contest that I'm going to be
14:12
witnessing. Ended up getting a bite to
14:14
eat. They have some subs and they have a
14:16
sugar cookie. Basically like a sugar
14:18
cookie. Looks like a bow tie that you
14:19
can get. They have a whole area set up
14:21
where you can they got some umbrellas to
14:23
block everyone from the sun and the
14:25
shay. Kind of like in this little area
14:27
that was used in the scene in the
14:29
general area, the same scene where
14:31
Twisted Sister singing the bird hell
14:33
song and all that. And then they end up
14:35
having, you know, the the boat crash
14:36
into the the car, having the twisted
14:38
sister singing the song, and D Snider
14:40
and the rest of the group, and Godzilla
14:41
flops out of the of the boat. It's
14:43
carrying Santa Claus and all that. That
14:45
was all kind of in the same general area
14:47
where we're over in here, and you're
14:49
going to end up watching the costume
14:50
contest. There's also some little prop,
14:52
not really necessarily props, but some
14:54
little theming all along the uh little
14:57
road here.
14:59
Is there
15:04
Francis
15:04
>> [applause and cheering]
15:13
>> So Martin's here, we got Francis. Let's
15:13
start with the contest. So if you're
15:15
dressed as PeeWee or anybody related to
15:18
the film inspired or straight up, come
15:22
forth and we're going to stand you here
15:23
on the red carpet with the bike.
15:26
>> Come on down. It's your time to shine.
15:44
That's amazing, dude. Nikki. Nikki.
15:57
>> I think the Mickey might be my favorite.
15:57
>> Mickey's the best.
16:00
I think
16:01
>> did I change maybe walk around here?
16:05
>> Maybe somewhere.
16:08
All right.
16:11
>> So,
16:13
Bridget.
16:14
>> All right. So, this is
16:18
>> Oh my goodness. Uh
16:21
>> oh. You got you got the uh
16:24
for the
16:28
>> Oh, wow.
16:29
>> How much tequila have you had?
16:32
>> I have one waiting for me after this.
16:34
>> You smelled it. Damn it.
16:38
>> You have a large mark with the eye. You
16:40
got to mention I also
16:45
have a lot of competition here. So I'll
16:47
do this to start drawing people forward.
16:50
>> Get it down and start killing it.
16:53
>> Yeah. Maybe like more cheers.
16:56
>> We get everybody involved in this. Okay.
16:58
>> I like the fact that this dude showed up
17:00
as
17:24
>> Oh my goodness, this is rough. Okay, so
17:24
let's let's go with you next.
17:37
But,
17:38
>> you know, put a little more effort into
17:44
>> ice cream.
17:44
>> If if you had gone as uh the cute little
17:47
thing that was uh pulled over by the to
17:58
>> enjoy the
18:04
good
18:04
Oh, look.
18:06
Look at
18:06
>> the top of his hat.
18:07
>> I know.
18:31
>> It's going to be Mickey.
18:31
>> I think it's going to be Mickey. Oh my
18:32
god. It was just a
18:34
>> custom honorable mention.
18:38
I'm just a criminal.
18:52
>> You're a rebel.
19:02
>> [cheering]
19:02
>> I don't know any of this stuff before I
19:05
come out here.
19:38
>> One for video, guys. Give me a whip.
19:38
Here we go. Three, two, one. Wave.
19:41
Video.
19:56
Hello there.
19:56
>> Hello.
20:01
>> I love it. I also love I also have you
20:01
on the front of the bike right there,
20:03
too.
20:03
>> Oh, that is great.
20:05
>> Oh, who signed your doll?
20:07
>> Oh, everyone practically besides Paul
20:10
Rubin.
20:11
>> Okay.
20:12
>> Yes. Everyone besides Paul Rubin.
20:16
Yeah. And then they sign Mark Holton
20:18
signed
20:19
>> sign
20:20
>> this one
20:20
>> and he was nice enough to sign behind
20:22
the tie.
20:23
>> That's what we
20:24
>> cuz he was like, "Are you sure you want
20:25
my autography?" I like, "Yes, Mark."
20:27
Yeah, I'm
20:28
>> like, "Come on."
20:28
>> Yeah, that's great.
20:30
>> Who is it?
20:31
>> Looks like Randy, right?
20:32
>> No, that's Francis.
20:34
>> Oh, really? Okay.
20:35
>> Francis. Yeah, buddy.
20:37
>> So, you know exactly. So, Kurt Ady's
20:38
life is here. You know where you're
20:40
standing right now cuz I know you know
20:41
the movie better than anyone.
20:42
>> I'm in Bourbon. No, but what what
20:44
happened right here in the movie?
20:45
>> Oh, right here. Well, this is where
20:48
Twisted Sister was shooting a music
20:50
video.
20:51
>> Kiwi was coming down the street right
20:52
there on his bike. He's being chased by
20:55
the uh the Santa sled and everyone else.
20:57
Yeah. With the bike. We're here with the
20:59
>> Is that the screen used bike?
21:01
>> I mean, who knows? There's so many of
21:03
those bikes.
21:03
>> Wait, that's the screen used bike. Mic.
21:06
>> They have the screen used mic out bike
21:08
out here in the elements.
21:10
>> I have an inspired bike. What did you
21:12
try bringing your bike in here? You said
21:14
you were going to try to bring your bike
21:15
in.
21:15
>> I I got this close to bringing it, but
21:17
I'm like, is it not going to let me
21:18
bring it in? It's just going to have to
21:20
sit out on It's going to get stolen even
21:22
if I lock it up on the car. So, I didn't
21:24
>> You have You have Kurt and I both beat
21:26
because you saw Twisted Sister on that
21:28
tour. That's the advantage to being old.
21:30
>> I was going to say definitely out of
21:33
everyone here, he's probably got the
21:34
most Twisted Sister numbers. Yeah, I I
21:37
had a Twisted Sister t-shirt and this
21:39
one jock tormented me for the rest of
21:42
the year calling me Mr. Sister.
21:45
>> that was my nickname for like the rest
21:47
of the where [clears throat] whether I
21:48
wore the shirt or not.
21:48
>> But did that bother you?
21:50
>> It did. It did because he was a dick.
21:53
>> Mr. Sister?
21:54
>> Yeah. It'd go Mr. Sister like
21:57
>> he's holding on to some serious uh
21:59
>> video. Remember I Want a Rock video? Mr.
22:03
Okay,
22:04
>> you're still holding on to it.
22:06
>> Dude, if I see that guy,
22:07
>> what if he's here tonight?
22:09
>> I'm throwing down.
22:10
>> What if he's here tonight? Jay,
22:12
>> I'm throwing down. I'm big. I'm bigger
22:14
now.
22:15
>> Oh, dude, that guy went all in.
22:18
>> Mess around.
22:19
>> At first, I thought no one was recording
22:20
him. I thought he was just doing it on
22:22
his own. [laughter]
22:26
>> I was like, dang.
22:26
>> Did you get that?
22:26
>> Yes, kind of. Evidently, this gentleman
22:29
here is the screenwriter.
22:51
>> Go, go, go. Right here.
22:51
>> No, you right there.
22:54
>> There we go.
22:54
>> Screen writer still get the screenwriter
22:57
still get from all the girls. Yeah.
23:01
What' you say?
23:06
>> What' you say?
23:06
>> The screenwriter still gets love from
23:08
all the girls here.
23:10
>> All you got to do is write one
23:11
screenplay and the girls love you
23:13
forever.
23:14
>> Is that Is that the trick?
23:16
>> That's the trick. Or if you're Liam
23:18
Niss, you know, it is a really cool
23:22
>> Is that everybody?
23:24
>> Full theater.
23:30
>> Good to see you both. Good to see you.
23:30
And
23:30
>> congratulations.
23:31
>> Thank you,
23:33
>> newlyweds.
23:35
>> You picked the best. You picked you
23:36
pissed the you [laughter] picked the
23:37
best seat in the house, man.
23:41
>> Look on Sean's face is like, why am I
23:43
sitting here? [laughter]
23:44
>> I just looked forward. I see this pole.
23:46
I'm like, you better not be sitting
23:47
there hearing the moon.
23:50
>> Hello. Uh, my name is Brad. I am a tour
23:53
guide here at Warner Brothers Studio
23:55
Tour. Hello.
23:57
Hi, Brad.
23:59
Now, normally at this part of the event,
24:02
we uh we ask you all, "Oh, clap if you
24:04
had a good time." But I'm going to try
24:05
something.
24:06
>> I'm going to say something and I want to
24:08
know your response.
24:09
>> Stars at night.
24:10
>> The stars at night are big and bright.
24:13
>> HE'S IN THE HEART of Texas.
24:16
>> That was
24:18
always wanted to do that, you [laughter]
24:20
guys.
24:22
Now, uh I am a little bit nervous, you
24:24
guys. I'm a little bit nervous. Being in
24:25
front of, you know, 500 people isn't
24:27
easy. So, I did uh go to Maro's magic
24:31
shop earlier
24:32
>> and uh he gave me something to calm me
24:35
down.
24:37
>> he said it was good to imagine the
24:39
audience naked. So, he gave me
24:43
>> So, let's see.
24:44
>> X-rays.
24:51
Uh
24:51
>> never do that again. Terrifying. Uh, now
24:56
we're all here because we love this from
24:58
day one has really uh meant a lot to me
25:01
and I'm sure it meant a lot to you being
25:02
able to see those sets. Even if you've
25:04
seen them before, whenever you see them
25:06
in the right context, you're like, I
25:07
can't believe this is this is where that
25:09
the magic happened. And uh when we came
25:13
up with this event, uh it really meant a
25:15
lot to me because way back in the way
25:18
back machine uh in fifth grade, we all
25:21
had to write letters. you know, write a
25:23
letter to somebody. Some folks were
25:25
writing letters to the president or
25:27
astronauts or Maryl Ratner or whoever.
25:30
And uh I wrote to Peewee Herman
25:33
>> and not Paul Rubin because I had no idea
25:35
who that was. So I wrote a letter to
25:37
Peewee Herman
25:39
>> and it came with a little card to the
25:41
Peewee Herman fan club
25:44
>> and I showed all the kids at school. I'm
25:45
like what? You know they because this is
25:48
before PeeWee's Playhouse. it was just
25:49
the movie at that time and his standup
25:52
and uh I kept that card. I still do have
25:54
it to this very day. It's in a very
25:55
special place. Uh working here has
25:58
afforded me a lot of opportunities and I
26:00
did get to meet him in person for the
26:02
first time in 2010.
26:05
I showed him the letter that was sent uh
26:08
and the card and he signed it. I know
26:11
you cried, I didn't. And I said, "Oh, I
26:15
would love to give you a tour of the
26:17
studio. has changed probably a lot since
26:18
she last been there. And I thought, "Oh,
26:20
he's not going to, you know, people
26:22
like, "Oh, sure. That sounds great."
26:24
Gave him my phone number. And then a few
26:26
weeks later, I get a call on my phone.
26:28
Like, I don't know this number. And so,
26:30
I let it go to voicemail
26:33
and it goes,
26:34
>> "Hey, [clears throat] Brad, this is Paul
26:37
Peewee. What? Uh, I've got some friends
26:40
from out of town coming in and I would
26:42
love to take the tour."
26:43
>> That's awesome.
26:44
>> What? That was my hopeful ear. So, he
26:48
came in, he came with his friends, very
26:50
low-key. We took the tour with regular
26:53
folks. Nobody recognized him. Nobody.
26:56
And I I didn't do subtle references to
26:58
the movie, you guys. I was just pouring
27:00
on pee-wee the whole time. And he was
27:03
just laughing and they're like, "Who is
27:05
this guy?" Like, [laughter]
27:06
didn't want to read that review. Um, of
27:09
course, he passed away. And uh, it it
27:12
was crazy. But before that, right right
27:13
before he passed away a few years ago,
27:14
some of you here probably saw his show
27:16
when he came back to LA and did the
27:18
Peewee Herman State show. Did you all
27:20
see that? It was amazing. Now, when he
27:23
did that, he was on stage like I am
27:25
right now. And I was in the audience and
27:28
they were doing the Pee-Wee's uh
27:29
Playhouse bit and he stopped. He looks,
27:33
"Hey, that's that's that's my tour guide
27:35
right there. That's Brad. He's my tour
27:36
guide." Almost threw up, you guys.
27:39
Almost threw up.
27:41
Uh that is probably one of the greatest
27:43
moments of my entire life when that
27:45
happened [applause]
27:51
and I know were Paul still around with
27:51
us today. He would have been first in
27:52
line to be on the tour totally incognito
27:55
of course and laughing at all you guys
27:57
and being impressed by how you all look
27:59
today. So let's give a big round of
28:01
applause for Mr. Paul Ruben.
28:05
So I want you to give a big Warner
28:07
Brothers Studio Tour Hollywood round of
28:08
applause for my very first guest. You
28:10
know him as Francis Buckton.
28:31
>> You have seen him in a lot of things
28:31
throughout your childhood. Little
28:33
Giants. He was in the TV show Super
28:35
Bowl, one of my favorite shows from the
28:37
80s. Uh even things like Teen Wolf.
28:41
>> Give him another round of applause.
28:48
>> Thank you, Danny. Thank you.
28:48
>> Everybody hear me? Okay.
28:50
>> Yeah, you're good. He's Francis,
28:53
everybody. Um, [laughter]
28:55
now I also have another special guest.
28:57
If that was not enough, we hide no. You
29:01
saw on the website like, "Oh, what what
29:02
else could they do, Brad? What could
29:04
they do?" Well, we have one of the
29:07
screenwriters
29:08
>> of Peewee's Big Adventure,
29:10
>> one of the coowriters, Mr. Michael
29:13
Varho.
29:23
Mr.
29:28
His coowriters that Phil Hartman, Paul
29:30
Rubin's
29:32
>> uh also uh wrote for a little show
29:35
called Peew's Playhouse.
29:38
>> So gentlemen, have a seat. Have a seat.
29:40
So he wanted to fire Phil me. And so
29:44
every day we went into the office
29:46
thought it was going to be our last day,
29:48
but Paul kept us on uh the picture. And
29:53
um at the at the very end of it, uh you
29:57
know, it uh when when
30:01
Tim Burton got on the on the on the
30:03
film, um
30:06
he had to sort of audition for for the
30:10
part. We saw Frank and Weenie and we saw
30:13
his Vincent film and we knew
30:17
automatically we knew he was the guy. Um
30:20
Warner Brothers said he's turned out
30:22
everything we've sent him so far. He's
30:24
never made a film but he's turned out
30:26
everything. And um so we we get finally
30:31
got a chance to send the the script to
30:33
him and got there like around noon and
30:37
3:00 in the afternoon he called and said
30:39
I'm in. Um so that was really exciting
30:42
for us because we knew just from
30:45
watching his other films that there was
30:48
nobody close to to Tim Burton because he
30:51
brought not only as a you know as a as a
30:54
director but not that many directors in
30:56
Hollywood. um have that artistic sense
31:00
of where he would he would design, you
31:03
know, the background and the foreground
31:06
and the actors and everything. So, he
31:09
was like, you know, he was just perfect.
31:15
>> That's that's an awesome story. I love
31:15
that story. Um,
31:18
now Mark, do you have any sure you
31:20
haven't heard this question before? 40
31:22
years later, what does the film mean to
31:24
you?
31:26
Well, it's sitting out there right now.
31:28
I mean, um,
31:30
had a young lady just walk up to me and
31:32
looked me in the eyes and said, "I love
31:34
you [laughter]
31:36
>> tonight." And I said, "I love you, too."
31:40
Because no, you [clears throat] no me.
31:43
Uh, no writers, no actors.
31:46
Uh, so that's that's about the best I
31:49
can do without uh getting all sppy and
31:53
and mushy and you know.
31:56
>> This is the place. This is the place to
31:57
do that. Everybody, it's a safe spot. I
32:00
[laughter] threw up on the stage almost.
32:03
Michael, what was [clears throat] it?
32:05
What was your process, right, coming uh
32:07
to write coming to the table for this
32:08
film? What was that like? Uh the process
32:11
was
32:13
um
32:15
I happened to know one of the executive
32:18
producers of the film and they said
32:19
would you like would you like to write
32:21
this uh film for Paul Rubin? And uh I
32:26
said I don't know who Paul Rubin is. And
32:27
they said you know Peewee Herman. I go I
32:30
don't know who he is either. And um so
32:34
they get me a tape of People's Big
32:36
Adventure, excuse me, uh the Phoebe
32:38
Herman Show and I saw that and I saw um
32:45
I I saw a comic
32:49
who could give uh give heart to things,
32:52
you know, who had real feelings and
32:54
stuff. I got that from the first thing
32:55
and I said this I'd like to write for
32:58
this guy because he can he's funny but
33:00
he's also uh he's deep in a way. So, uh,
33:05
that's how it started. And, oh, and then
33:08
he then he then, uh, he brought in Phil
33:13
Hartman and
33:15
>> let's give it up for Phil Hartman.
33:23
and we found a a vacant office on
33:23
Wilshire Boulevard and uh we just set
33:27
you know hours of 10 in the morning till
33:29
like 4 4:30
33:32
in the afternoon and um five days a week
33:36
we did it and uh we never wrote
33:39
separately. We always weren't as as
33:42
three of us and um I think a lot of good
33:46
things in the movie where they uh is
33:48
because the three of us were writing
33:49
together.
33:51
>> Um things you wouldn't understand,
33:53
things you couldn't, [laughter]
33:55
things you should understand.
33:56
>> Yes.
33:57
>> That was the three of us. Yeah.
34:01
>> During the um audition, we pretty much
34:05
just, you know, nailed
34:08
the uh the I know you are, but what am I
34:11
seeing? [laughter]
34:12
And uh and that's the first thing we
34:14
shot. And I I don't remember uh you know
34:17
having that many takes or whatever.
34:19
maybe just a little, you know, tweak
34:21
here or there, but but the only
34:23
difference between uh the two
34:25
performances was they were shooting one
34:27
on film and Paul had his pee-wee outfit
34:30
on and it it was just a great way to
34:33
kick it off. Um, [clears throat]
34:37
so, uh, yeah, it was it was pretty, uh,
34:40
you know, it was a great script and, uh,
34:44
you know, I you you you had Michael and
34:48
Phil Hartman on set every day that I was
34:52
there and, uh, I don't remember you ever
34:55
changing anything or having to change
34:57
anything.
34:58
>> Right. Pretty much locked in.
35:01
>> Yeah. You get it right the first time.
35:02
That's the main thing. So, and that's
35:04
very rare.
35:12
>> Oh, all right.
35:14
>> Going to give us a detour over to
35:15
Midwest and swing around.
35:19
>> Not tell anybody. No, no. Secret with
35:21
us.
35:21
>> A great shot. No one's filming from a
35:23
camera that move may have moved, but
35:26
speaking through there.
35:28
>> Oh, yeah. Let me back up. You see it?
35:30
Yeah,
35:32
>> kind of kind of can see it.
35:35
>> And the uh friends fountain still going.
35:37
It's the I got to know it was the
35:38
eternal fountain, I guess. Huh.
35:40
>> Yeah,
35:40
>> the Kennedy grave site.
35:44
>> That's a deep cut.
35:45
>> Yeah. Huh. Huh. Yeah. Sorry. Sorry.
35:46
Sorry. Took took the
35:50
>> Well, the eternal flame.
35:51
>> Yeah. The eternal flame except as a
35:52
fountain.
35:53
>> All right. That's right. [laughter] All
35:55
come together.
35:57
Americana. All right. Everybody's making
35:59
a left. I'll make a right. Go over on
36:01
the block.
36:01
>> All right. Thank you.
36:03
>> So, they're getting ready for Abbott
36:04
here. They've been busy the last couple
36:05
weeks. I think they've actually started
36:07
filming. They just built this building
36:09
here ahead of us for Abbott.
36:11
>> Oh, a new building.
36:12
>> Wasn't the Yeah, this none of this was
36:14
here. This building right next to
36:16
Luke's.
36:17
>> Wasn't this where the elevated?
36:19
>> Yes. Was in front of the I'll show it to
36:21
you. Front of the hospital.
36:22
>> Elevated rail was.
36:24
>> Oh, that's right. Is that gone?
36:26
>> Yeah. I'll show it to you. Why? This is
36:28
all dressed for um George and Mandy's
36:30
first marriage.
36:31
>> Well, because they're not filming
36:32
Sheamus anymore, they don't need it,
36:34
right?
36:39
>> They'll be filming out here this week.
36:39
They built the dry cleaners at the end.
36:41
They actually bought dry cleaning in the
36:43
other day, so I assume they'll be
36:45
filming in the store. [laughter]
36:52
>> Good lord.
36:52
>> Warner Brothers. [laughter]
36:54
What the hell?
36:57
I hope we got the
37:00
>> OH MY GOD. [laughter]
37:02
>> YOU DON'T SAY, MAN.
37:08
>> That was mindblowing.
37:18
>> Brother
37:26
flame.
37:26
>> [laughter]
37:32
>> Oh man, that was a big stretch, man.
37:32
Sorry guys.
37:33
>> What did you have on the video?
37:34
>> We made a track once right here.
37:36
>> Oh, in front of the hospital.
37:38
>> Oh, okay.
37:40
Beeping at me. Somebody beeping at me.
37:43
Yeah. A hostility is [laughter]
37:50
>> It's like being on a five freeway.
37:52
Exactly. On the five.
37:53
>> THAT'S THE FUNNIEST THING.
38:02
>> OH MAN.
38:02
>> EXACTLY. IT'S
38:03
>> BEEN A long day. You know,
38:05
>> this was used in Fargo.
38:06
>> There's Brad. He brought all this
38:07
together. This was used as the apartment
38:09
buildings.
38:09
>> Thank you again, Brad. We loved it. Had
38:11
a great time.
38:13
>> Put this all together right there, Brad.
38:16
>> Way to go.
38:19
>> See you. Thanks for everything.
38:20
>> You got me some points with Brad.
38:22
>> Oh, good.
38:24
He's been here 18 years, he said.
38:26
>> That's a long time.
38:29
>> All right, the event was good.
38:32
>> I kind of thought we were going to stop
38:33
off, get off the golf cart a couple
38:36
times at some of the locations, but you
38:39
got to figure there's probably 50 golf
38:40
carts going by, 10 people per golf cart,
38:42
500 people in the theater. So, it does
38:44
make sense. But, nonetheless, it was a
38:46
great time.
38:48
got to do a there was a little Q&A with
38:50
the one of the writers that
38:53
screenwriters that co-wrote the movie
38:55
with Phil Hartman and Paul Rubin. Three
38:57
of them wrote the film.
39:00
He was there. Also, the actor that
39:03
played Francis.
39:05
Great reaction during the film. I
39:08
laughed so much tonight hanging out with
39:10
friends and watching the film. Man, that
39:12
movie still holds up
39:15
just non-stop.
39:17
As Mickey says in the movie,
39:18
action-packed,
39:21
just such a classic. 40 years old. Happy
39:24
40th anniversary, Peewee's Big
39:27
Adventure. Thanks for watching. I'll see
39:29
you in the next video. The vlog is over.
