0:04 a.m. umbrella in full
0:07 effect lot of rain last night in
0:10 Memphis and I'm out
0:13 early because I have some place to be to
0:16 the right is a very famous
0:19 wall and past that very famous wall is a
0:23 very famous
0:25 house and yes even in the Rain the gates
0:30 are open and it is now
0:32 hailing look very closely at the ground
0:36 that is not
0:37 snow those little nuggets of
0:41 white that's
0:43 hail that's not good welcome everyone
0:45 Adam of the woo here for 1 hour early in
0:49 the mornings on most days Graceland will
0:52 open up their Gates and allow folks to
0:55 walk up to the meditation Garden to pay
0:58 their respects to the king
1:00 so I have parked next to the
1:03 wall and I'm going to make the very
1:06 short pilgrimage in the rain it's my
1:09 second channel daily Vlog channel it's
1:11 the daily
1:18 woo I sound like Elvis right there's
1:18 really not much more room on these rocks
1:22 to even
1:24 place your memories and
1:27 momentos of Elvis
1:31 the rain has
1:32 subsided but take a look at this over
1:35 the
1:42 wall for nearly half his life that was
1:42 his
1:43 home and I get to walk up that path this
1:47 is the first time in my life I've gone
1:50 past these
1:53 Gates
1:55 morning the
1:57 right okay thank you the security guard
2:00 told me do not go up to the house stay
2:03 on the trail but do not go up to the
2:05 house I think it's fantastic that they
2:07 allow people to do this and do not
2:11 charge an admission fee for those who
2:14 just want to stop
2:15 by and say hi to the man
2:29 himself on the other side of that little
2:29 pond
2:31 is where he
2:32 is laid to
2:39 rest and even in the rain even in the
2:39 stormy
2:40 weather people are out paying their
2:43 respects next to him is his grandmother
2:46 Minnie May and to the right of him is
2:50 his father Vernon next to Vernon is his
2:53 mom gladus and over there on the very
2:57 far end is a headstone Memorial real to
3:01 his twin brother who died at Birth he is
3:04 not buried here he's buried in
3:07 Tupelo but they were not able to
3:10 move the little boy's body so they have
3:13 just placed headstone as a memorial the
3:17 passing of Jesse always plagued him
3:20 through life he always wondered why God
3:24 would take his brother but not him and
3:28 the early death
3:30 of his mom also was a major
3:34 blow to Elvis some even say he was never
3:39 the same afterwards and eventually was
3:44 partly caused for his untimely
3:49 death it's amazing to think that his
3:52 body now lays to rest here at
3:56 graceand a place he loved he could have
3:59 lived in anywhere in the
4:02 world but he chose Memphis
4:05 Tennessee of all places this is where
4:07 his heart was this is where his memories
4:10 were and this is where he wanted to be
4:13 this statue bearing the family name
4:17 engraved at the bottom has an
4:18 interesting backstory because Elvis and
4:23 his mother were not originally placed
4:27 here after death and neither
4:31 was this on August 16th
4:35 1977 on the second
4:37 floor directly in the middle pretty much
4:40 behind those
4:42 pillars to the
4:45 back right about
4:48 here was where his body was found in
4:51 fact his bedroom was up
4:55 here once the news got out it did not
4:58 take long for people to start showing up
5:02 first by the dozens then by the hundreds
5:05 and then by the thousands at the gates 2
5:08 Days Later the funeral was held on
5:11 property and the crowd grew even
5:15 larger people wanted to get one last
5:20 view and say their goodbyes as the
5:24 hearse with his casket turned onto the
5:27 road into the throng
5:30 of adorning fans it made its
5:34 way down Elvis Presley Boulevard and
5:38 there's a very famous photo of a woman
5:41 leaving the
5:44 sidewalk and running up towards the car
5:48 a lot of tears that day a lot of
5:50 emotions running through Memphis and the
5:53 world it might just be me but I think
5:56 it's I think it's pretty cool that large
5:59 Marge is the only one parked in front of
6:02 the property right now whoo it's
6:03 starting to rain again not only do I
6:05 really like the guy but I have another
6:07 connection I was born in Tupelo
6:11 Mississippi just like he was this is the
6:13 exact routes that the funeral procession
6:16 took about 3 and 1/2 miles up to Forest
6:20 Hill Cemetery where he was
6:24 originally laid to rest straight
6:28 ahead is the
6:30 mum wow just seeing it in person it's
6:34 pretty incredible seen this in videos
6:36 and photos over the
6:39 years but to be
6:42 here to be here in
6:49 person pretty amazing the entire
6:49 property was so engulfed in flowers you
6:52 couldn't see any grass or concrete or
6:56 anything in front of the structure and
6:58 it was said you couldn't even find a
7:01 florist anywhere in the vicinity that
7:04 had any flowers remaining because people
7:07 purchased all of them a few photos were
7:10 taken that day including one from this
7:13 angle this headstone was here in
7:17 1977 matching up the
7:20 shot where the hearse
7:23 parked just to the left of it the Paul
7:26 bears walking up those very four steps
7:30 and one thing I was not expecting before
7:33 getting here was the fact that the
7:37 door
7:39 seems to be open I don't know if this is
7:43 normally left open in this
7:56 fashion but I'm going to go in it's a
7:56 very interesting feeling to be standing
8:00 inside here Straight
8:14 Vault Elvis was placed
8:14 originally and where other family
8:18 members were to be
8:20 buried
8:28 later grave robbers changed all that
8:28 because shortly
8:30 after he was laid to rest in this
8:34 room someone tried stealing the body
8:38 this prompted the movement of himself
8:43 and his
8:45 mother to
8:48 graceand the
8:50 walls are slightly
8:55 misted with rain or condensation
9:12 Ambiance that's where he
9:12 was king of rock and roll
9:48 on the same property just a little ways
9:48 away is where his mother glattus was
9:51 originally laid to rest she died at the
9:55 age of
9:57 46 way too young
10:00 and Elvis had such a difficult time with
10:04 the passing of his
10:07 mom this concrete
10:09 slab that you see here in the
10:12 grass was the location of what is now
10:15 been moved to Graceland the big tall
10:19 cross that is now in the meditation
10:22 Garden used to
10:24 sit right
10:26 there and her grave was a few feet in
10:30 front of
10:32 it right
10:39 here you'll also notice there are some
10:39 remnants here of the monument itself
10:42 that stayed
10:44 adhered to the
10:52 concrete and you'll also see people have
10:52 chipped off
10:54 portions of where it once stood as a
10:58 little momentum so you see this pretty
11:01 often at a lot of celebrity and famous
11:05 people their grave
11:07 sites people will
11:11 somehow chip off part of it to take home
11:15 with them and as I stand here all I can
11:18 think of is that photo of Elvis kneeling
11:22 down saddened
11:25 disheartened at the passing of his
11:27 mother in this very
11:31 spots not even thinking or considering
11:34 at that moment that he would one
11:38 day be laid to rest just across the way
11:42 in the mausoleum with a pretty decent
11:44 view of downtown Memphis is where Elvis
11:49 lived the
11:51 longest in this
11:53 town next to graceand in fact his family
11:57 moved into these apartments for 3 or 4
12:01 years when he was a teenager these were
12:03 the formidable years in where he really
12:06 came into his own as a musician he could
12:09 be seen roaming all around this property
12:12 playing guitar
12:14 performing and honing his craft the
12:17 gates are closing behind me and this
12:21 gentleman in the vehicle up there he's a
12:23 security guard he let me in
12:34 yeah that's a picture of him there as a
12:34 boy in front of the building
12:43 yeah used to be called Lauderdale courts
12:43 from October
12:45 1949 to January
12:48 1953 former residents remember foremost
12:51 that Elvis liked to sing and play guitar
12:54 he practice in the basement and perform
12:56 for Neighbors on the front steps of his
12:59 building I thought it was going to be a
13:01 little bit easier and more accessible to
13:03 get up to the actual apartment that was
13:05 not the case but either way pretty cool
13:08 to to walk the grounds and literally a
13:11 stone throw only maybe a couple hundred
13:13 yards from that first apartment was a
13:16 place called Popular Tunes which was his
13:19 favorite vinyl record store and has the
13:24 significance of being the first place
13:26 that made his music available to the
13:30 general public it's even stated on this
13:33 placard his first record was purchased
13:36 here I had this great idea about
13:38 purchasing one of Elvis's albums on CD
13:42 obviously for the RV inside the place
13:45 where it was originally first sold on
13:47 vinyl unfortunately a few years ago it
13:51 went out of
13:53 business it looks like they're
13:55 converting it into some sort of Diner
13:58 establishment which that also is not
14:01 open and just to show how close it was
14:04 where he lived was right there hum's
14:07 Preparatory
14:08 Academy became a middle
14:11 school but before that it was a high
14:13 school in
14:16 1953 certain person graduated from there
14:19 I'm kind of wondering if that's a relic
14:21 of the old high school sign before they
14:25 converted it to the younger age groups
14:28 no probably not because it's still
14:30 intact and still spells out High School
14:33 on the front of the building from this
14:34 angle it says here that he won the
14:37 senior class talent show and his slick
14:41 backed hair and usual style of dress
14:43 were tolerated by the principal at that
14:46 time and the legend began as I drive
14:50 through the neighborhood here I'm not
14:53 really sure why but someone's legs are
14:56 in that trash can what what happened
14:59 here look at that old theater there the
15:03 Lamar that's awesome just after high
15:05 school he started recording albums his
15:08 popularity happened very quickly and
15:11 with the first substantial bit of money
15:14 he had he bought a house here on Autobon
15:17 Drive the precursor to graceand for
15:21 there was a graceand that came a couple
15:24 years later and there it is a humble
15:27 little abode it's interesting that the
15:30 neighbors next door have something
15:34 similar to what graceand looks like so
15:37 if you were an early fan of his you
15:39 could have easily just parked where my
15:41 RV is parked stood outside to this gate
15:46 and waited for him to walk out and say
15:48 what's up now it wouldn't be too
15:50 terribly difficult to step over this
15:53 fence but do not attempt to go in it
15:56 from this angle because look at all that
15:59 barb wire do not do not cross that fence
16:04 line it's very interesting to me that
16:07 Elvis died the age of
16:10 42 that's my age I am currently
16:16 42 puts things in perspective a
16:20 bit see you guys
16:22 tomorrow
16:24 Vlog
16:26 over well since my baby left me I found
16:31 a new place to
16:32 dwell it's down at the end of a lonely
16:36 street called Heartbreak
16:39 Hotel and I feel so
16:43 lonely I feel so Lely oh W it's
16:46 recording oh crap
