0:14 bad I always have the worst trouble with
0:14 these things welcome everyone Adam the
0:17 woo here I have been doing YouTube
0:19 videos for about 5 years now a little
0:21 bit past the 5year mark whoa there's
0:25 a for 5 years I've have been doing
0:28 videos on YouTube and people always ask
0:31 they wonder what did you do for work
0:34 before you started doing YouTube videos
0:37 and that's what I'm going to cover in
0:38 today's Vlog but were you ever the
0:42 president of the United States of am
0:46 second channel daily Vlog channel it's
0:47 the daily woo everyone remembers their
0:51 very first job and mine was right over
0:55 here to the right I used to pull
0:58 straight into this parking spot
1:00 and stop right
1:03 here and where that gold gem is
1:07 now was a public grocery store the year
1:10 was 1991 my family had just moved to
1:12 town I was 17 years old my parents said
1:15 you need a job so I went and got a job
1:17 it looks a lot different than it did
1:19 back then the front entrance was over
1:21 here where this wall was you would walk
1:23 in and the sliding door would open and I
1:26 would go in go upstairs punch my time
1:28 clock get get to work I started off
1:30 bagging groceries and collecting
1:32 shopping carts from the parking lot and
1:34 then I became part-time Stockman and
1:36 then I became an overnight full-time
1:38 Stockman there were many of times that
1:40 my clunker of a car that I had would
1:43 break down right in this very spot and I
1:46 would spend hours and hours after work
1:50 trying to get it started right in that
1:52 very spot around the back is where we
1:54 would unload the trucks you could still
1:56 see down here where the little ramp that
1:58 went up to the truck was so this would
2:02 lift up to where the truck which was
2:04 parked where that dumpster was we would
2:06 take the pallet jack in pull the pallets
2:08 off take it inside that door stock the
2:11 shelves after a couple years working
2:13 there a guy in my dad's church who owned
2:15 a cabinet shop convinced me to go to
2:18 work for him I did not and still don't
2:20 know anything about carpentry but I took
2:23 the full-time position there is now a
2:24 boat shop in its place but that's where
2:27 I made cabinets I spent a lot of time in
2:29 inside those bay doors sanding and
2:33 cutting wood looks a lot different in
2:34 there than it did with all that with all
2:37 that dust I worked there about 6 months
2:40 before I was laid off and had to go back
2:42 to Publix but it wasn't back to the same
2:44 store it was to another one down this
2:46 road bua Ventura Boulevard in bvl bvl
2:51 stands for bua Ventura Lakes and this is
2:53 it the second Publix that I worked for
2:56 and after I worked here it closed and
2:58 became something else now it's closed
3:00 again it looks like it's
3:08 abandoned it's awesome how your mind
3:08 works you see something from decades ago
3:12 and it brings back memories they just
3:14 flood back in as if you were just here
3:16 yesterday when you weren't wow look at
3:18 that the door still says
3:20 Publix that's so cool there's a golf
3:22 course right over there and I distinctly
3:26 remember unloading a truck from here one
3:28 day talking to one of my co-workers
3:31 about how nice it would be to not be
3:34 stocking shelves and to be playing
3:37 around a golf and I don't even play golf
3:39 oh except putt putt it was mid1 1994 and
3:43 this Staples was a wind Dixie grocery
3:46 store and upon looking at it closer it's
3:48 actually two storefronts it's an Aldi
3:50 and a Staples but this was all one store
3:53 and I was the overnight stock crew
3:54 manager here I would always get to work
3:56 a few minutes early and I would park in
3:58 this spot right there of times sitting
4:01 there before I had to go clock in
4:03 thinking I really do not want to be here
4:06 I do not want to do this tonight Vivid
4:11 memories parked right there after about
4:13 12 months I said goodbye to wind Dixie
4:16 and the store manager said I would never
4:18 work for the company again but more on
4:21 that a little later I caught wind of a
4:23 rumor around town that the store that
4:24 used to be where this Dollar Tree is now
4:26 was moving across the street and they
4:28 were hiring a lot lot of people in all
4:30 honesty it was one of the most exciting
4:32 announcements in town at that
4:35 time the Walmart Super Center was about
4:39 to rear its head upon St Cloud Florida
4:43 construction had just ended on the
4:44 building and I was one of about 20 to 30
4:47 people hired to set the store up check
4:50 out this parking job sweet and basically
4:52 what that entailed was moving things
4:53 from the old store to the new store when
4:55 we walked in there wasn't one single
4:58 shelf or anything anywh in the building
5:00 all of these shelves all of these
5:02 products none of that was here we had
5:04 our employee meetings right in this spot
5:07 here right on this tile after about a
5:08 week of setting the store up they
5:10 divided us into sections because I had
5:12 grocery experience I started working in
5:14 grocery this was the aisle I spent most
5:16 of my time on countless hours right here
5:19 stocking the peas after a tenure in the
5:21 regular grocery department I became the
5:23 dairy manager and over here they used to
5:25 be McDonald's that I would get my
5:27 breakfast at now it's just a deli but
5:29 was a legit McDonald's inside % off the
5:32 r tick prices and as always thank you
5:35 for Cho your Walmart class it's a pretty
5:37 good deal I just got yelled at for
5:39 filming inside there that's right come
5:42 on come on no filming down there and now
5:45 we're getting into some of the
5:47 longer time periods that I worked at
5:50 places this used to be Kmart I worked
5:53 here 5 years pretty much every
5:55 Department everything you could possibly
5:57 do in there I did it's some facet over
6:01 that half a decade period it's been
6:04 completely remodeled but that was the
6:06 front door right over here is where all
6:08 those little child toys that you put a
6:10 quarter in and ride were and that was
6:11 the entrance to the garden center and
6:13 all the garden supply stuff was right
6:15 there in that little outside forer area
6:18 Kmart tried to emulate Walmart's game
6:20 plan of taking a regular store putting a
6:23 grocery store in it and making it a
6:24 super center Kmart's idea was to change
6:27 the name from Kmart to Big K and I
6:29 worked here during that transition this
6:31 was the back of the store this is where
6:32 we unloaded the trucks right in there
6:34 that was the receiving area I worked a
6:36 lot of overtime when they transitioned
6:38 not only at Kmart but at Walmart some
6:40 weeks I work like 80 85 hours a week it
6:43 was pretty intense but overtime is good
6:46 even though I was getting basically paid
6:48 minimum wage which means they're paying
6:50 you time and a half on nothing and a
6:52 little side note there were times in my
6:54 life that I didn't have a car and I had
6:56 to take that Lynx bus system to work
6:58 after the periods of overtime ended I
7:00 stayed working at Kmart full-time but I
7:03 also had a plethora of part-time jobs on
7:06 top of the full-time gameart I sold hot
7:08 dogs and nachos at the spring training
7:11 facility of the Houston Astros see that
7:14 concession stand right there I worked in
7:17 that one man that brings back a lot of
7:19 memories I kind of want to do that again
7:22 just for the heck of it it was kind of
7:24 fun right over here near the corner
7:26 right where that sign is was a video
7:29 store called video Center and I work
7:31 part-time there couple nights a week I
7:34 really like working there the guy that
7:35 owned the place that I work for refused
7:37 to switch over formats when DVDs came
7:40 out and hence went out of business but
7:42 man he had so many good old school 80s
7:46 and 90s VHS I learned a lot about movies
7:50 working in that place right here among
7:51 this Shrubbery I worked a couple nights
7:54 a week at what was a miniature golf
7:57 course that was the parking lot and
7:59 there was a bridge that went this way
8:03 and basically I would sit right up there
8:05 and rent out the golf clubs and the golf
8:07 ball and sometimes on slow nights when
8:09 there weren't a lot of people on the
8:11 course I would walk down here to the
8:14 very first hole and I would play the
8:17 first hole over and over and over and I
8:19 got pretty good at it and there are
8:21 still some remnants of that hole still
8:24 here it's kind of sad and if you look
8:27 closely you can see some of the other
8:28 holes as well all through here and some
8:32 of the wooden posts from the bridges it
8:33 does rain a lot in Florida and one of
8:35 the tasks I had was to come out here
8:38 basically with a blower and blow the
8:40 water off of the course where puddles
8:43 would
8:44 accumulate
8:46 man that was a long time ago it was
8:49 called River Adventure Golf on Highway
8:51 192 and that was the address and I am
8:54 now infested with these little these
8:56 little Klingons get off of me klling on
8:59 after Kmart and all those part-time jobs
9:02 I once again switch careers to a place
9:05 right up here straight in front of us
9:06 where these restaurants are was a place
9:08 called holiday Villas I went in the
9:10 office applied and got a job working at
9:12 a couple of their Resorts and they were
9:14 right down Point Siana drive three
9:17 different properties down that road the
9:19 first one was Laguna Bay Villas and I
9:22 worked in that little clubhouse right
9:23 there the second one was Royal Palm Bay
9:26 I would drivve in this way to work and
9:28 basically I was kind of the sort of the
9:30 manager of the clubhouse and I use that
9:32 term very Loosely because I was the only
9:34 one working in there I think they just
9:36 give you that title to kind of make you
9:38 feel better about yourself and the last
9:40 place is Villas of Somerset and of the
9:42 three properties I think this was the
9:44 clubhouse I work the most at I worked
9:47 here about 9 months 10 months and while
9:49 I was working full-time here I also
9:51 worked a few nights behind this hotel
9:54 was a little pool bar and from what I
9:56 can tell this hotel is now abandoned
9:59 more or less they have a fence up around
10:01 the property I answered an ad in the
10:03 newspaper for part-time work and
10:04 basically this guy had taken this shed
10:07 and turned it into like a makeshift
10:09 snack bar and he also served you know
10:12 beers and like chips and hot dogs and
10:14 stuff like that right next to the pool
10:17 where tourists who were at Disney and
10:19 Universal would stay in these rooms and
10:21 they would swim in that pool and I
10:23 worked right there in that little that
10:24 little Shack and it was a little strange
10:26 me being a non-drinker being a quote
10:29 bartender even though it really wasn't
10:30 like full alcohol or anything I got very
10:33 good at telling people I cannot accept
10:36 their request to drink a beer that they
10:38 have bought for me cuz I was at work so
10:41 that kind of worked out I had a good
10:42 excuse hey Justin how's it going man
10:46 what are you wearing I'm getting full
10:48 Florida bro look at it I got my Florida
10:50 towel I got my Florida shirt check out
10:52 my fanny pack I got my Florida sunscreen
10:55 in there I'm a real Floridian now uh
10:59 no no you're not no anyone that sees you
11:04 that lives in Florida would know but the
11:06 fanny pack here just let me come in and
11:08 show you just let let
11:10 me after working at those
11:13 clubhouses I spent five years at this
11:17 Office Max I did about everything you
11:19 could possibly do in that store from
11:22 overnight stock to receiving manager
11:25 pretty much
11:27 everything man five years I walked in
11:31 and out of that
11:33 door 5 days a
11:36 week ah memories after working in office
11:39 supplies for a little while I went from
11:41 cumi Florida back into St Cloud those
11:44 two towns are basically Twin Cities they
11:46 are side by side right next to each
11:48 other so commuting back and forth was
11:51 really not that big of an issue really
11:53 only a couple of miles and pretty much
11:55 every job I had that I have shown was in
11:58 those two Two Towns give or take in the
12:01 general area of those two towns either
12:04 CMI Florida or St Cloud Florida and
12:06 after that I went back to grocery and
12:09 back to wind Dixie where I was told by
12:13 management that I would never work again
12:15 I returned I worked inside there as
12:18 grocery stock crew manager and once
12:20 again a dairy management position I did
12:23 it for one year and then I went to work
12:25 for a place that I never in a million
12:27 years thought that I would be
12:29 working at this town has a lot of farms
12:31 and ranches and people who own cows and
12:33 horses and chickens and ducks and
12:36 pigs and
12:38 whatnot and before I started working at
12:41 this place I had no idea about any of
12:43 that stuff but all that changed when I
12:46 got a job at this feed store you can see
12:50 the big bales of hay right there that I
12:52 would load in the back of trucks with a
12:54 forklift you could see the gates that we
12:56 would sell and this trailer was full of
12:58 hay and I would stand at the end of the
13:00 hay trailer and throw it in the back of
13:02 trucks with people who needed hay I
13:04 would also load this salt in the back of
13:06 people's Vehicles as well as sod and
13:10 mulch plants things like that by working
13:13 there I learned a lot of things that I
13:14 never knew before which was really cool
13:16 but after being there 3 or 4
13:19 years the wheels in my head started to
13:21 turn and I thought to myself I need to
13:24 do
13:25 something on my own even
13:30 if I do not get a paycheck a weekly
13:32 paycheck I need to Branch out and do
13:35 what I want to do and this took 2 years
13:38 to come into
13:39 fruition and I totaled 5 years working
13:43 at that feed store before I quit on
13:45 August 9th 2011 which means it is just
13:49 past the 5-year anniversary of the last
13:52 time I punched a Time Clock I was 17
13:54 years old when I started working 20
13:56 years later when I was 37 which was 5
13:58 years ago
14:00 I decided to stop working on my own
14:02 accord for no reason other than I wanted
14:05 to do it I had to change in my mindset
14:08 that instead of putting so much energy
14:11 into someone else's business into what
14:14 someone else was telling me to do I
14:16 would go out on a crazy limb and try to
14:19 make something for myself I don't think
14:21 it worked out just because I don't think
14:22 it worked out on accident when I did
14:26 work a normal job at all the places I
14:28 was showing I was rarely late to work I
14:31 rarely called in to work I rarely took
14:33 time off and when I did do something I
14:36 always tried to do it to the best of my
14:38 ability not only to try to like succeed
14:41 in the company but just for my own
14:44 personal satisfaction I tried to do the
14:47 best job I could and I feel like I apply
14:52 that to what I am doing now I don't know
14:55 if that shines through I don't know if
14:57 you see that but but it would be really
15:00 easy for me to sleep in every day it
15:02 would be really easy for me to go out
15:04 every night go do other things and then
15:06 sleep all day sit around you know
15:08 watching TV or doing nothing but I don't
15:11 do that I get out and I do something
15:13 every single day and I feel honestly I
15:16 am working harder and working longer
15:18 hours than I was working when I worked
15:21 for someone as crazy as that is now I
15:23 know I'm super blessed and I'm super
15:25 like on a different wavelength than most
15:28 people because I have the ability to do
15:31 what I want make my own schedule but
15:33 sometimes you can fall into that trap of
15:35 letting that make you lazy and I never
15:38 want to be that way and good Lord
15:40 willing in the creek don't rise I never
15:42 will
15:44 be thanks for watching I'll see you guys
15:48 tomorrow look at those
15:50 clouds the
15:52 sunset is rather beautiful this evening
15:55 look at that look at that over
15:57 there amazing
16:00 life is
16:03 good life is definitely
