0:02 today's adventure begins from my hotel
0:02 room as the recording of this it is
0:04 Friday May 12th
0:06 2023 and I will be heading down from my
0:09 hotel
0:10 onto the streets
0:13 of New York City
0:15 and when I think of NYC I think of a lot
0:17 of Productions a lot of movies but I am
0:19 going to be covering my favorite
0:21 superhero film of all time the 1978
0:25 Richard Donner classic Superman
0:29 the movie Marlon Brando Christopher
0:31 Reeve Margot Kidder Gene Hackman
0:35 a cavalcade
0:45 I've been want to do this for a long
0:45 time I want to see these spots for a
0:48 long time
0:50 I'm pretty excited about this I'm
0:51 heading down welcome everyone
0:54 you might think I'm someone else you
0:57 might think I am mild-mannered reporter
0:59 Clark can't because with the glasses on
1:02 you would just assume that I was someone
1:04 else because when you have glasses on
1:06 you might not be able to tell who
1:09 someone is Adam the
1:11 woo here I am in Metropolis standing
1:15 here
1:17 on the side of the road with a bus going
1:19 by in front
1:22 of the one and only daily
1:26 planet
1:27 in real life it is the news building
1:29 Donner chose this
1:31 because it was an active newspaper
1:35 for the Daily Planet and I am just
1:37 completely blown away standing here in
1:39 front of this they have built an awning
1:41 in front of it but right up there
1:45 is where Lois Lane the helicopter
1:47 teetering over the side
1:49 Superman swooped up grabbed her
1:56 and the rest is history
1:56 helicopter on top of that roof
1:59 now they used to have a globe and from
2:01 what I was kind of seeing on the web
2:02 that the globe is still in there and I
2:04 would imagine that's part of the reason
2:06 the location Scouts chose this
2:08 building to represent it because there's
2:10 a scene
2:12 when Margot and Chris walk out of the
2:14 front
2:15 and I believe it's Rex Reed is like has
2:18 a little uh little Cameo walking in and
2:20 out of there
2:22 in front of that very building
2:24 I'm gonna walk over there this is
2:27 absolutely incredible there's a lot of
2:30 stuff on the web a lot of behind the
2:31 scenes stuff stuff on the special
2:33 edition DVDs Blu-rays things like that
2:35 of them doing production right over in
2:38 here where Chris and Margot and the cast
2:40 and the crew walk across the road they
2:42 have the production Vans all that set up
2:49 but this is it the news building the
2:49 real life location still looks the same
2:51 of the Daily Planet now this would not
2:55 have been here
2:56 this would have gone all the way up this
2:58 little etching can be seen very
3:00 prominently and there's the kind of the
3:03 angle here
3:04 looking with the doors where a lot of
3:07 there's one interesting scene where
3:09 Lois Lane and Clark walk out of this
3:11 circle around and you can see a crew
3:13 member's reflection
3:15 in the window right here almost like you
3:18 can see my reflection here I'm kind of
3:21 like waving you can kind of see it's
3:22 like an air this is before they could
3:23 like CGI stuff out but when they walk
3:25 through here you can actually see I
3:27 don't think it was daughter I think it
3:28 was the cameraman in in the little angle
3:32 of the of the glass window stated here
3:34 that the landmarks in New York New York
3:36 Daily News Building completed in 1930
3:39 doesn't say anything about Superman on
3:41 here and being the Daily Planet but it
3:43 is and this is the door they walk out of
3:45 with the globe still in there oh my
3:50 I am in here okay so watching the clip
3:53 back it is not this one that I was
3:55 standing on the side that they walked
3:56 through I'll show there's a little
3:57 parade going through out there so once
3:59 that goes out I'll go back outside the
4:01 door they walk through or the the
4:02 spinning turnaround was that one that
4:04 they walked through so Lois and Clark
4:07 walk through here
4:09 this direction walk around
4:13 this area walk past the globe and out
4:16 that door it's not the middle door there
4:19 are three circular doors and
4:22 and fun fact whenever I see a circular
4:24 door I always think of Superman 78
4:27 always every single time I cannot look
4:29 at one of these doors
4:31 anywhere in the world
4:34 that I've gone through and not think of
4:35 Superman Clark Kent transforming into
4:38 Superman yeah no joke this
4:49 what is happening right now this still
4:49 exists this globe using the 78 Superman
4:52 the movie still in here right
5:03 looks like the clocks have been changed
5:03 out though and it says right here 1977
5:06 so it says in the 78 film this was used
5:09 and there is where the actor actress
5:12 there I'm kind of wondering if they use
5:14 up top to film as well and there is
5:16 Chris
5:18 on the setup daily during the building
5:20 of Superman there's the clocks behind
5:21 all right I was just told I'm not
5:23 allowed to film in here and they said no
5:25 one's allowed here for more than five
5:27 minutes unless you have a reason to be
5:28 in there yeah definitely not very
5:30 friendly when it comes to cameras inside
5:31 there but you can see I was in there for
5:33 a little bit luckily I was in there for
5:35 a couple minutes before they were like
5:37 get the heck out of here but the reason
5:38 I knew it was the one I was pointing at
5:40 not the one that originally showed
5:41 outside is that little awning up there
5:44 is still there where that's the middle
5:46 circular door and there's Rex walking
5:50 so I walk through the Superman turning
5:53 door which I'm pretty happy about and I
5:55 did not plan the check out the Superman
5:58 curl right here unintentional I was
6:00 hoping it would happen didn't notice it
6:03 earlier but I have the Superman girl
6:04 first they said only photos in there so
6:07 I was like okay no problem and then I
6:08 kind of wandered around for another
6:09 moment and they said
6:11 property controls asking you to leave
6:13 tourists are only allowed five minutes
6:16 so if you go in there no video
6:20 only five minutes and supposedly photos
6:23 perfect day
6:25 looks like they believe in troop Justice
6:26 of the American way in there or maybe
6:28 they do and now into Grand Central
6:30 Station where
6:32 Otis tries to steal the item from the
6:34 shop owner the dog starts barking that
6:37 direction all that what I was just
6:39 pointing at really doesn't look the same
6:40 as it did but this does look the same
6:44 and of course eventually heads down to
6:47 the subway and there's a guy following
6:49 him and the platform pushes the guy off
6:52 into the subway platform and you know
6:55 no spoilers but yeah didn't end well for
6:57 the guy that was following Otis
7:03 pretty impressive
7:03 building oh the clock circular clock
7:06 thing's still there
7:07 from where Ned Beatty walks past yeah
7:10 you could see him walking past it there
7:12 and then there is that little roundabout
7:13 Information Station that has the clock
7:16 in the middle a little circular thing
7:18 there kind of looks how it does then
7:20 because just same kind of people in
7:22 years there were then so that's him with
7:24 the brown Blazer on there and the suit
7:26 and the little hat right there in the
7:28 middle and it kind of looks like you can
7:30 see there's a little illuminated
7:33 circular uh Archway over there I think
7:35 it's facing this Direction with that
7:37 escalator over there with that Archway
7:39 so I believe it was something like this
7:41 it could have been the other way hard to
7:43 tell there was a lot of extras in the
7:45 foreground and very quick very quick
7:47 angles and shots but this looks like it
7:49 would have been now where I was just
7:51 standing was right over there at the
7:54 base of those escalators there facing
7:57 that way and I was correct
7:59 which means he would have been walking
8:02 past the clock there this way the two
8:05 guys that are following him are over
8:07 there one guy turns around goes back
8:08 over there this does look a lot
8:10 different however
8:12 there's only one Archway there this is
8:15 an open area here where the flag is this
8:19 has kind of been redone so stairways
8:21 have been added over there but this is
8:24 the the angle here they had a they had a
8:27 kind of a crane probably a little maybe
8:29 20 30 feet higher than where I am
8:31 looking down for like a visual from this
8:33 side and notice where the flag is now
8:36 that's what it was like a big clock
8:37 there and over here to the right also
8:39 are the ticket booths that are still
8:41 there and one set of escalators which
8:44 are over here to that side so I'm
8:46 standing in the same spot just about 20
8:48 feet lower because I don't have a crane
8:49 to utilize let's just show it again
8:51 escalator over there ticket booths over
8:55 there and
8:57 Otis walking directly through the middle
8:58 of a crowd kind of about the same size
9:00 crowd as there is modern day 78 to 2023.
9:15 some point I'm going to walk back over
9:15 too where I just was the Daily Planet
9:17 also there was a parade going by it was
9:21 a little too noisy for me to try to go
9:22 back over there try to film The
9:24 exteriors in a little more detail maybe
9:25 I'll end with that okay from this point
9:27 uh for different Grand Central to the
9:29 next spot about a mile walk so I'm gonna
9:31 be getting some steps in today but I
9:33 might end up doing some public transit
9:34 or maybe a taxi to get to a couple of
9:37 them but we try to walk as much as I can
9:40 walk in the streets of NYC all right I
9:43 am seeing my next destination it is this
9:45 very Sleek like building that
9:49 tall building made of glass it's like a
9:53 perfect opportunity for a crook to
9:55 suction cup his way up the side
9:58 possibly Rob someone however the Man of
10:03 Steel has anything to do with it which
10:06 he did he was thwart those attempts not
10:10 sure which level it was that the crook
10:12 was at
10:14 but he's got the suction cups he's going
10:15 up the side of the building I can see
10:18 the reflections over there
10:20 the clouds
10:26 the super band was right there
10:26 standing looking down which surprised
10:28 the crook and then he lost a grip
10:31 started to fall towards the ground
10:33 Superman swooped it and grabbed him and
10:36 then delivered criminal right over there
10:39 to officer Mooney I believe his name was
10:43 just about over in this area in fact the
10:46 building still looks the same with the
10:47 Sleek Archway style not Archway I keep
10:51 using that word Archway but the slanted
10:53 style that goes up
10:56 in and then up but you can see these
11:01 pylons here
11:03 still look exactly the same and that
11:06 backwards number nine down there is
11:09 still there decades later what the heck
11:12 I'm surprised that's nine is still there
11:14 a slight redesign where they have gotten
11:17 rid of the escalator here on the ground
11:19 level looks like it was going down to
11:21 maybe the basement but look at that
11:23 backwards nine I always wondered what
11:25 that was for evidently it's the
11:27 addresses there's eight eight and a half
11:29 and nine on this building and this is
11:32 this is the late 70s in that nine
11:35 backwards nine is still down there
11:42 Superman lands
11:42 goes down the side of the building
11:45 the Crooked delivers them to the officer
11:47 right there
11:48 incredible this is still here that nine
11:51 is still there but it is
11:57 all the way down there on the end
11:57 escalator is now gone that was over
11:59 there and these lights up here you can
12:02 also see that are illuminated because
12:04 the scene is at night
12:11 pretty incredible when the movie came
12:11 out it was the biggest budget for a
12:13 production from what I was reading ever
12:15 up until that time until the late 70s
12:17 they put a lot of special effects and
12:20 practical effects and they had the
12:22 cranes and they had the ropes
12:33 take a look at that this is still here
12:34 I mean that surprises me especially with
12:36 how much stuff changes around cities and
12:39 whatnot but this photo op even made it
12:42 into the original cut of the movie
12:49 so basically where that scene happened
12:49 was out at the end over there
12:56 that guy was trying
12:56 to deal up there
12:59 seemed like they would have been an
13:00 easier way
13:07 it's back then there wasn't as much
13:07 crime in New York as
13:09 I mean even then I think New York is
13:10 probably even worse than it is now as
13:12 far as crime I'm not sure what the crime
13:13 ratio is but Superman would have had his
13:15 hands full
13:16 I mean if the worst thing happening
13:19 someone scaffolding the side of the
13:20 building with some suction cups or a cat
13:23 stuck in a tree yeah it's a good day
13:25 with the reflection of that nine in the
13:27 window here
13:29 so I was looking over here it's been
13:31 redesigned now there's like glass around
13:32 it but notice the top of the roof in
13:34 this little circular section over there
13:36 also is another one of those spinning
13:37 doors they're everywhere makes you think
13:39 of Superman but that little glass part
13:41 up top the lighting kind of looks like
13:44 this shown here
13:46 so take a look right here that little
13:48 very interesting circular
13:51 little cubby hole there with the lights
13:53 on the I think that's the lights that
13:55 are now enclosed completely in glass
13:58 right about there it's been redesigned
14:00 but I believe that is I'm also looking
14:01 at it from a different angle just not to
14:03 get a glare but I think that's it
14:06 with the nine and the distance so all
14:10 three of the actors were standing right
14:11 here in front of the eight and a half
14:13 it's located on this glass door with
14:17 that little alcove area over there it's
14:19 kind of tough to see because of the Sun
14:20 but yeah all right about two blocks from
14:23 where I just was well probably one city
14:24 block
14:25 I'm gonna give a little mention to a
14:27 site called caped Wonder there are quite
14:30 a few blogs and people have done videos
14:33 and websites all also there's lots of
14:35 honking
14:37 but I stumbled on this one site called
14:38 Cape wonder and it appears as if that
14:40 there could be others
14:42 that they were the first to discover
14:43 that this is the spot where you first
14:46 see well with the exception of
14:50 the beginning scene when you when you
14:52 see
14:53 Superman first fly but as far as being
14:55 in Metropolis you first see Clark Kent
14:58 switch over
15:00 into Superman so when Lois is over at
15:04 the Daily Planet this is not the Daily
15:06 Planet this is like a good mile and a
15:07 half of where it just was
15:09 it's it flashes from that scene when
15:12 Clark tries to go into a phone booth but
15:15 really it's just a pay phone
15:17 that's in a kind of a outer shell so we
15:20 can't disguise itself he can't hide to
15:22 switch over and then it flashes over to
15:25 this very building here
15:28 this is on the corner of West 58th
15:31 Street
15:32 and avenues of the Americas now this
15:35 building can be seen behind Superman
15:38 when he eventually comes out and flies
15:41 up the side of this building and I'll
15:43 try to line it up but this right here is
15:45 a pivotal seat he call it the the scene
15:47 where the where the pimp is now just
15:50 before we're about to show was where he
15:51 reveals the Superman s off his shirt
15:53 there in Metropolis for the first time
15:55 he's running across I believe that was
15:59 on a set they did film some stuff on a
16:00 set I don't think that this happened in
16:03 the streets of New York it could have
16:05 but I I don't think it did but
16:07 immediately after he goes through a
16:09 revolving door now the building has been
16:11 completely remodeled but what I'm going
16:13 to point it at is where that door was
16:15 located at 101 which is pretty much
16:17 where that white van is now so that's
16:20 105 101s on that corner there was a
16:24 awning
16:25 so you can kind of see those little
16:26 sculptures up there that are carved in
16:28 the wall
16:29 the metal stanchions hold any awning
16:31 together was right there
16:34 looks a little different and be able to
16:37 match up a little more if all the
16:38 scaffolding wasn't on that building over
16:40 there on that other corner
16:42 but ends up coming out
16:45 guy compliments his outfit
16:48 off he goes so that was where that
16:52 awning was the address 101
16:55 and you can see there's Superman flying
16:58 off you can really see it a lot better
16:59 in this so he goes above the awning
17:01 notice the pillar s style of the
17:03 building and the concrete work and the
17:05 windows take a look at his other red
17:07 building over here I'm going to zoom in
17:09 through the scaffolding just so you can
17:11 kind of tell that that is the same
17:13 building and I'll walk over there to
17:15 where that circuit the door was which
17:17 anyone is a fan of this film is etched
17:19 in our head
17:21 forever looks like it's a cleaners now
17:24 yeah it's a cleaners but this was the
17:28 address 101 right through here total
17:31 fashion care
17:38 so take a look up top here at these I'm
17:38 going to zoom in if you watch that scene
17:49 Superman flies off you can see these
17:49 very unique
17:50 Windows window frames
18:00 those right there that go up the side of
18:00 the building where he kind of just flies
18:02 off from the spot
18:04 yeah the thing about big cities
18:06 especially New York City everything
18:07 changes so consistently
18:10 evidently there was a record store here
18:12 so you can see a little window with the
18:13 record display
18:15 so all of this which is standing right
18:16 behind where I'm just kind of like
18:17 visually showing this does not look the
18:20 same anymore they've completely
18:22 remodeled the front but that is where it
18:24 was based on him flying up with the
18:27 ropes and the pulleys and all that
18:29 utilizing the back there
18:31 and the front door would have been there
18:36 and that's where that iconic moment
18:38 happened
18:39 and that's what I got the guy was with
18:41 the two girls right here that is a bad
18:44 outfit
18:49 it flies up
18:49 and away so yeah right up here there was
18:51 the awning there were those metal ropes
18:55 that were holding the awning on right
18:59 incredible
19:01 iconic Superman the movie location right
19:04 in this door I don't understand the
19:05 slang though that the the pimp is using
19:07 say Jim that is a bad out fit
19:12 not sure why he called him Jim
19:18 you're just excited I mean I'd be
19:18 excited too if
19:20 I saw Superman right there here
19:25 now the tag line for the movie was
19:28 you'll believe a man can fly
19:34 pigeons can fly
19:34 but up until then it was the first time
19:36 whoa it's the first time on screen that
19:40 an actor playing Superman flew other
19:42 than just laying on a box and having the
19:45 same behind them so it was the first
19:47 time you saw it
19:49 Fortress of Solitude scene
19:51 was just incredible when he kind of
19:53 launched off
19:55 flew away and then right after that
19:57 dramatic scene with the classic
19:59 incredible John Williams score I have
20:01 rewounded that whole thing with Marlon
20:03 Brando doing the whole talking about
20:06 the Sun going to Earth and all that and
20:07 then he flies for the first time with
20:10 the use of cables
20:11 he's just incredible it had never been
20:13 done on film before up until that point
20:15 and then immediately we see we see
20:18 Metropolis
20:19 because New York city has the stand-up
20:21 so when I was over at the Daily Planet
20:23 really was kind of emotional seeing that
20:26 spot because I've seen it on film
20:27 hundreds of times and right over there
20:29 is Central Park I'm gonna walk parallel
20:31 to it to kind of what is a discrepancy
20:34 of opinions on the interwebs on where
20:37 Lois's apartment was I'm going to show
20:38 the one that most people consider it to
20:40 be which is right up here probably I
20:43 don't know a quarter of a mile with the
20:44 address being 240
20:47 Central Park South you can see it on the
20:49 awning right there this is what is
20:52 highly considered to be well it is a
20:54 fictional home of Lois Lane but also
20:57 where up on the top of the roof where
21:00 her Penthouse was
21:04 I guess it all depends on who you talk
21:06 to but this is the one that everyone
21:08 considers to be a 240. Central Park
21:11 South Lois Lanes apartment
21:14 classic scenes of her heard him flying
21:18 in landing back on the roof she had
21:19 quite the view from up there
21:21 could it possibly run that one where
21:23 that tree is up there and you can kind
21:25 of see how it could be
21:28 kind of looks like the same kind of
21:29 rooftops
21:31 oh
21:33 I've never seen anybody that's actually
21:34 gotten up into the apartment complex
21:37 or into the penthouse or anything like
21:39 that but yeah
21:41 there's that blue dot is me standing
21:43 there got a pretty good way to go to the
21:45 other spot and try to contemplate how
21:46 I'm going to get over there but I found
21:47 this pretty cool picture
21:49 Chris replaying Superman in front of the
21:52 New York City skyline
21:54 he probably got pretty used to hockey
21:55 too non-stop hockey here in New York
21:57 every five seconds
21:59 Statue of Liberty
22:06 Louis and Superman flew by that I'm not
22:06 sure if I'm gonna get the Statue of
22:07 Liberty today but
22:09 in case I don't
22:10 this will be the one moment seeing only
22:12 lasts like two seconds but yeah this is
22:14 the miniature Statue of Liberty across
22:16 the way from this Fountain right there
22:17 is a Big Apple in the Big Apple and
22:21 Radio City Music Hall I think I'm gonna
22:23 walk back to my hotel
22:25 relax just for a bit I mean there's
22:26 still a ways to get back over there get
22:28 off my feet for a little while then
22:30 coordinate how I'm gonna get down to
22:32 some of the spots that are way south of
22:34 so I still got to wait before I get back
22:36 but I'm definitely getting my steps into
22:37 that
22:39 this pipe is emitting out of the ground
22:41 with steam coming up from it
22:43 very poignant loud steam take a look at
22:47 that and I'm passing by the outside now
22:50 of Grand Central
22:56 what an impressive building
22:56 look at the street cleaner over here too
22:58 yeah
23:05 that's it I mean obviously it's huge
23:06 enough to where you know it's that but
23:07 you can tell by those same windows
23:12 so this is walking through there all
23:12 right I'm gonna try this again I gotta
23:14 go inside
23:16 who's building the AKA The Daily Planet
23:19 but I'm gonna walk in front just see if
23:21 I can show where
23:24 where Clark came out saw the article of
23:28 clothing I think it was a hat Lois's hat
23:30 was on the sidewalk walked over to the
23:33 the not the pay phone booth not a full
23:35 Booth but a half a half booth which kind
23:38 of got a good reaction from the audience
23:40 of course nowadays
23:41 well I don't even know what the heck a
23:43 payphone is or the half Booth we
23:44 couldn't change in there
23:46 I just want to show that but this was
23:47 kind of the angle where they showed the
23:49 helicopter up top as well very unique
23:52 little carvings there in the size as the
23:55 news
23:58 also it's also kind of interesting when
23:58 you watch the movie the entire crowd is
24:01 like directly below where the helicopter
24:03 and Lois was about to fall none of the
24:06 officers were like pushing them back
24:12 as they all stood here staring up
24:18 they were at the base of the news
24:18 building
24:20 but really you know they were just right
24:22 over there where that cab was kind of
24:23 that that uh post office truck is and if
24:28 the helicopter would have fallen
24:30 everyone would have been having a bad
24:31 day all right just to reiterate
24:35 so they didn't go in that one and exit
24:37 out this one but what you really want to
24:40 is this little awning up here so you can
24:42 utilize that
24:43 a lot of different times
24:45 and the one they come in and out of
24:48 not only Lois and Clark
24:51 was this one and also when Clark Kent
24:55 walks out of this one at the it towards
24:57 the dramatic scene with the helicopter
25:00 it's the same one and you can tell
25:02 because it's a little awning over there
25:05 so right up here it's a daily planet but
25:07 it's the third one or the first one
25:09 depending on which way you're walking
25:10 and pretty much right over like pretty
25:12 much between this planter
25:14 and these free Publications
25:17 is where he walked out
25:20 so he walked out of that door looked up
25:23 at the top saw the helicopter heard Lois
25:26 streaming
25:28 and kind of waded through the crowd
25:31 walked over here saw the pay phone kind
25:34 of gave the interesting like oh how am I
25:36 supposed to hide in here and turn to
25:37 Superman then he went a mile and a half
25:39 from here to where I just was
25:42 and then ended up changing in a super
25:44 van flying up here and saving them
25:46 absolutely incredible movie history that
25:49 happened right here I mean just the
25:52 panda note the pandemonium that was
25:54 ensuing
26:00 in the film fictionally up there on the
26:00 top of the roof with Lois
26:08 just blows my mind I love that I love
26:08 the original Superman movie and here's a
26:10 view of it from just a little bit of a
26:12 distance imagine what it was like out
26:14 here that night when they were filming
26:25 and I'm back in my room now and just so
26:25 happens I have a view of the Daily
26:27 Planet
26:28 from out my window it is
26:31 right over there
26:41 curious to wonder if they really put a
26:41 helicopter up there and if the roof
26:43 scenes were on top of that roof or a
26:45 different roof
26:47 that is the building let me zoom in on
26:49 it it's the beige one right there with
26:51 the satellite dishes on the top
27:01 and the helicopter would have been right
27:01 on that ledge there
27:04 all right back on ground level here on
27:06 the corner of East 39th Street now I
27:09 took a taxi yesterday from the airport
27:11 to this area
27:13 today I'm going to try the Uber I've
27:15 already walked a lot but
27:17 four or five miles south of here I gotta
27:19 go and I've been walking a lot so I'm
27:22 gonna try to grab the vehicle and just
27:24 see what happens
27:38 all right that was one of the best Uber
27:38 rides I ever had
27:39 nice and quiet
27:45 yeah that was that was a good experience
27:45 got here quick train going by off in the
27:48 distance
27:49 now right over here
27:51 is the scene
27:53 where Clark and Lois
27:55 are told to go into that alley over
27:58 there looks like the alley is closed off
28:02 this is where it happened so they're
28:05 walking along here
28:06 and then uh hand points out and goes
28:09 come in here and they go right into this
28:12 little Alleyway right here
28:30 I don't think they used down the alley I
28:32 think they had a set or maybe a back lot
28:35 where for some of the other stuff that
28:37 they use most stuff was on location but
28:39 there were a few things looking in there
28:41 peeking up over this doesn't appear to
28:43 be the same
28:45 you know construction of the alley that
28:48 kind of looks the same it appears to
28:50 look a little bit different
28:52 than what I just showed when I went over
28:54 the side granted you know when you watch
28:56 the scene they definitely have like the
28:58 fire escapes and the little balconies
29:00 and whatnot but just the the way the
29:03 well you know what now I'm having now
29:04 I'm looking at him having my doubts
29:11 and this is this this whole area here
29:11 has changed quite a bit and really the
29:13 main way that you can tell this is the
29:15 spot
29:17 are the build is the building up here so
29:19 if you look at the windows here
29:22 they look exactly the same the same
29:24 brick building everything looks
29:28 how it did look
29:33 when they are very very startled when
29:33 the guy tells them to go into there you
29:35 could see this building behind them
29:39 as they walk in
29:41 and they have since put up this metal
29:44 wall
30:01 it was pretty wild honestly this is
30:01 pretty dang cool I keep saying that but
30:03 I'm just blown away by this whole
30:04 experience seeing all these spots so
30:06 here they are walking up to the side of
30:08 it's like a nail salon now but I think
30:11 it was a store at that time you see the
30:13 bridge over there you see the buildings
30:14 in the background and this whole facade
30:17 over here has been repurposed and
30:19 reshone but they continue on
30:22 right along here yeah now there's like
30:24 metal shutters pulled down the side
30:30 there is a big truck pulling by with a
30:30 lot of spray paint on it
30:32 makes me think I wonder if there's any
30:33 murals around town
30:35 of Superman there should be
30:41 they turn right here
30:42 and then the guy sticks his hand out
30:43 there both sides of where the alley was
30:45 have complete different textures now
30:48 that unique brick and everything is gone
30:50 really the bridge behind them the fact
30:53 that the little alley is even still
30:55 there but the Brit the building behind
30:58 their heads is really the giveaway so
31:00 this is what it looked like in the film
31:03 even the lower Windows have changed a
31:05 little bit so notice that green door The
31:07 Green Door is still there but all the
31:09 windows off to the side of it have
31:10 changed but the windows right above
31:13 Chris's head all still look the same
31:16 including the size of the windows the
31:18 dimensions some are really long
31:20 rectangular some are more Square
31:23 that's the giveaway right there
31:26 think about New York things change
31:27 pretty dramatically but at least those
31:29 windows still look the same right up
31:30 there so in that frame I just showed the
31:33 flagpole while that flag called the lamp
31:36 post this kind of where Clark's head was
31:39 kind of like that so I'm going to zoom
31:42 in there's that red door so it would
31:44 have been kind of about like that
31:52 so many years later
31:52 okay from here I'm gonna walk a mile
31:54 to another spot
31:57 I think it's only a mile
32:02 no reason to get a ride so I'm just
32:02 gonna walk it and then I might get a
32:04 ride back later on but walk in this next
32:06 mile
32:32 the name of this area is kind of
32:32 interesting it's called Old Slip
32:36 and I don't believe it's this
32:50 power Ladder 15 going by
32:50 I don't believe this is the side but I
32:53 think it does look like the building I'm
32:55 gonna guess it's the other side
32:57 scene took place on oh yeah definitely
33:00 around this side
33:01 so this is when the three or four guys
33:03 were apprehended Superman brought the
33:05 boat out of the river and placed it
33:08 right here this still looks exactly the
33:11 same
33:12 departments or these Hotel here but just
33:15 the slats and the Slants on the side of
33:17 that building right over here next to
33:20 the parking garage area
33:22 is where the boat was sitting
33:29 boat was right there where that car was
33:30 these pillars could be seen prominently
33:33 this is a museum of sorts I don't think
33:35 it's open at the moment oh yeah the same
33:37 doors in fact
33:41 it's all locked up
33:44 two officers stood right here
33:51 watch Superman fly off and they saw the
33:51 boat right there as shown here
33:54 so there's the boat there's the pillar
33:56 in fact I'm standing right where they
33:58 were standing
34:03 curious to see if I peek in the window
34:03 with the front desk and everything is
34:06 still in there does not look like it is
34:08 so that front desk and everything where
34:10 the officer comes around all that's been
34:13 torn out that is gone
34:15 however
34:16 these are the same doors this door this
34:19 wooden door with the wrought iron on the
34:22 window was it it was inward when the
34:26 officer walked out right there
34:30 and these are the very steps they stood
34:31 on
34:33 not sure what those circles are there
34:34 but
34:36 then the angle was something like
34:38 something like that as they were both
34:40 standing there looking over at the boat
34:44 cool just one of many many scenes it's
34:46 kind of etched in my head forever from
34:49 that film
34:50 it's like a montage of different things
34:53 that Superman was doing
35:00 for truth justice and the American one
35:00 here's another angle a close-up of the
35:02 boat
35:03 see it was right there where that that
35:05 door was
35:07 about nine or ten windows in
35:18 more like the straight grab there and
35:20 this is what it looks like from this
35:21 side of the road
35:23 yeah it was a museum but evidently the
35:26 Museum's not open anymore
35:33 no longer operational
35:33 those are the doors that the officer
35:35 stood in and now back up to my room
35:37 Nightfall has started to rear its head
35:39 the sun has set
35:41 lights are turned on upon
35:50 or New York City
35:50 AKA
35:53 everything's illuminated
36:02 I always love the film
36:02 I always love the 78 dollar Superman I'm
36:05 glad I was able to cover it today a lot
36:07 of stuff looks different
36:08 and there's some stuff in other areas as
36:10 well but I just covered the New York
36:13 City spots
36:14 or at least most of the ones that I
36:15 could find
36:16 and get around to throughout the course
36:18 of the day
36:22 always loved the film
36:22 my dad always liked the movie we'd
36:24 always watch it together
36:29 I can always remember him telling me
36:29 stories but first time he saw the movie
36:30 poster I was four when the movie came
36:32 out
36:33 when we first saw the movie poster he
36:35 still to this day
36:36 talks about
36:38 how the tagline said you'll believe a
36:41 man can fly
36:43 something something to that effect I
36:44 might be paraphrasing it I've always
36:46 remembered that
36:48 his excitement for the movie the fact
36:50 that I like the movie
36:57 yeah it's kind of hidden over there in
36:57 the shadows
37:01 well maybe not so much in the shadows
37:01 but right there
37:02 so there's the elongated part of the
37:05 Daily Planet building
37:07 and then there is the
37:09 tall portion so Lois Lane
37:11 they've been right up there
37:15 on the copter thanks for watching I'll
37:17 see you in the next video
37:19 the Vlog is
37:31 over and here's the movie poster
37:31 Gene Hackman over in the corner Brando
37:34 over the other corner
37:35 Chris Reeve right there in the middle
37:38 and that iconic tagline
37:41 you'll believe
37:42 a man can fly
37:48 and I do
37:48 it made me believe
