0:03 welcome everyone out of the woo here as
0:03 a recording of This is Monday August
0:05 14th
0:06 2023. Daphne is here as well we're in
0:10 San Francisco right now
0:12 we got some San Francisco coffee
0:21 there's the trolley car going by we are
0:21 right in front of Union Square
0:24 we were here two years ago in August of
0:28 2021 and we are back you are a former
0:32 local so you know a lot more about this
0:33 area than I do so over the next series
0:36 of days you're going to show me some
0:37 things yeah we're today we're going to
0:40 go to Oracle Park which is where the San
0:42 Francisco Giants play they're going up
0:44 against the race and wearing an
0:45 appropriate hat
0:47 stadium tour you ever been to a game
0:50 there or to that that Park I've been to
0:52 a game but I've only been out
1:01 today's the day stadium tour there's a
1:01 place that Anthony Bourdain went to that
1:04 you want to take me to we'll do that in
1:06 between the tour and the game
1:09 and we're just gonna see where the day
1:10 leads yeah we're fighting you can enjoy
1:12 being adopting Italian I'm looking at
1:15 this building over here I believe
1:16 Hollywood Studios Disney's Hollywood
1:18 Studios only has one building not from
1:20 Hollywood they recreated from San
1:22 Francisco and I think it's that green
1:24 one on the end there's one that looks
1:25 kind of like that I'm not sure why they
1:27 chose one
1:28 from the Bay Area and not just L.A and
1:30 Hollywood but they did also this corner
1:33 was used in Alfred Hitchcock's the birds
1:36 Tippy walked right past here at the
1:38 intro
1:42 it's pretty awesome
1:44 Hitchcock
1:46 would be proud
1:48 one thing that's kind of neat about this
1:50 too
1:51 is we were here
1:53 August of 21. your birthday is the first
1:56 of August my birthday is the 10th of
1:58 August so that was kind of a birthday
2:01 trip so this is almost like a part two
2:04 birthday trip belated birthday fact on
2:07 your birthday in 21 we ate up there on
2:09 top of that Macy's as a restaurant
2:10 Cheesecake Factory
2:12 not cheese steak cheesecake cheesecake
2:17 so we just celebrate our birthday all of
2:20 August
2:26 every couple years we'll come here in
2:26 August Union Square
2:28 in bloom
2:31 very nice
2:47 I was just informed this used to be the
2:47 Disney Store
2:49 did you ever go in there when you lived
2:50 here oh yeah
2:56 not a lot of Disney Stores laughing they
2:56 got the few that are you know
2:59 in airports and things like that you
3:01 don't really see the the kind of old
3:03 school Disney Store stores anymore
3:11 there's a lot of public transit here in
3:11 the city I'll be taking a lot of it over
3:13 the next series of days I mean just look
3:15 at this thing right here
3:17 you're taking the trolleys taking the
3:19 buses
3:20 taking the vintage cars like that
3:25 walking a lot
3:27 a location like this mural right here
3:29 but this hardware store you see the
3:30 Golden Gate Bridge you see downtown
3:33 off in the distance
3:35 see the gentleman up here holding the
3:38 hardware sign
3:45 the sculpture was created by Terry Allen
3:45 in 1993 known as the shaking man
3:56 get closer you notice he has three hands
3:56 he's got three hands over here
3:58 briefcase and three sets of feet
4:05 this is his face here
4:05 I'm not sure the symbolism behind it
4:08 kind of looks like Andy Griffith a
4:09 little bit I know something else like a
4:11 twisted Andy Griffin
4:25 I don't know which hand to shake oh my
4:25 God
4:35 a lot of really good ornate beautiful
4:35 churches here in San Francisco William
4:38 Randolph Hearst founder of the first
4:40 newspapers began as newspaper publishing
4:42 career with the Examiner
4:44 right here at the Hearst building
4:51 I think he showed me this from a
4:51 different angle last time we were in the
4:53 year yeah we were across the street
4:55 because we went to the bank where his
4:57 daughter had that very famous photo take
5:00 it around the corner yeah
5:10 this is neat
5:10 it's like what Epcot like the reverse
5:12 Waters the reverse water yeah
5:15 take a look at this
5:23 does not smell good I wonder if they're
5:23 using like re
5:25 reuse water in there
5:27 so water does not smell good
5:33 yeah there's some fruit down in there
5:33 this is really cool
5:38 be neat if there's some way you could
5:38 like stand in the middle of it and get
5:39 like a cool photo but
5:41 okay it's off it's 360.
6:05 over here at the Embarcadero Center
6:05 this very unique
6:08 sculpture slash Fountain
6:12 dumping out water
6:15 it's about what 70 degrees you'd say
6:18 probably 70 degrees it's going to be in
6:20 the low 60s of the game later
6:22 we were here two years ago in August
6:25 it's a little cooler than this but it's
6:28 still really really Pleasant compared to
6:30 Florida humidity not I'm loving it
6:55 stopped off inside the ferry building if
6:55 you saw a sign this building's 125 years
6:57 old the anniversary of the ferry
6:59 building is one with the big clock on it
7:02 sure the bay
7:09 and walk back outside and go see Cupid's
7:09 bow and arrow
7:11 it's an older trolley car there
7:14 love it it's been there with the newer
7:16 traffic going by
7:28 these would be more strong carriages
7:28 also
7:38 clanging of the coming and going
7:38 comprised a contractual Symphony
7:43 of Cosmopolis
7:49 Cosmopolis
7:49 that sounds like a sentence I would say
7:51 just like makeup inside
7:53 there it is
7:56 you said this is called Cupid's bow and
7:58 arrow
8:03 big Arrow there in the ground and you
8:03 got Cupid's bow
8:09 it's also interesting here right at the
8:09 base you get some of the skyline behind
8:10 it
8:11 get the Bay Bridge
8:17 it goes across
8:18 the East Bay
8:23 over to Oakland so Oakland is off in the
8:23 distance
8:35 right over there they don't want any
8:35 skateboarding out here it says no
8:38 skateboards and make sure you don't
8:41 grind along the side of this
8:43 they put this squid and Starfish here
8:46 squid starfish Turtles
8:53 just to obscure
8:53 I'm guessing that's what that's for
8:55 Skyline in the background
8:58 Bay in front of us
9:00 into the era nice we're just walking
9:03 along the shore here
9:12 no longer Candlestick no longer a t
9:12 Parks now called Oracle Park
9:22 kind of sort of see the stadium off in
9:22 the distance see the lights of Oracle so
9:25 a little teaser for later we're gonna
9:27 come back over after the baseball tour
9:29 in between
9:31 tour ending and first pitch they go to
9:33 Red's Java house I'm so excited I'm so
9:36 excited to take you here so it's
9:37 basically a burger hot dog place and I
9:40 guess Java do they have coffee also
9:49 there's a famous Anthony bornet episode
9:49 where he eats here
9:52 all right we'll come back
9:57 the tallest building in San Francisco
9:57 yeah it changed it used to be I think
9:59 the TransAmerica building was the
10:00 tallest and then there was a bunch of
10:02 like City guidelines
10:05 to build it to change the skyline of the
10:08 city he get out there above the bridge
10:17 hello pigeons
10:17 good to see it octopus here the squid at
10:20 Frankie's
10:22 there it is Oracle Park
10:29 this will be my 17th stadium that I've
10:29 been to
10:31 watching the race boy once the game
10:33 begins it'll officially knock off the
10:35 17th Stadium
10:36 for the Rays of play that I've attempted
10:39 going for all 30 it'll take me to the
10:41 end of next year but I'm gonna do it
10:42 right here at Pier 40 the California
10:45 spirit boat over there
10:48 nice little breeze coming across the bay
10:52 right here at the Docks
10:58 I love this weather
10:58 I don't feel like I'm in the bowels of
10:59 Hades
11:01 like Florida feels right now
11:19 not every baseball stadium does Stadium
11:19 tours there's a few that know including
11:21 Tropicana Field with the raised play but
11:24 Oracle Park is one of them and I always
11:26 try it when I visit knock off new
11:27 stadiums off my list I try to do a tour
11:30 earlier in the day
11:56 something you don't see too often in
11:56 front of a lot of stadiums
11:58 are big palm trees
12:05 and a couple dozen palm trees here
12:05 and you got Willie Mays
12:08 right in the front Courtyard this is
12:11 interesting there's like a whole area
12:12 over here I got like a little
12:14 like a Walk of Fame Barry Bonds has his
12:17 hand prints down in there so you've
12:19 watched games from right outside here
12:21 huh yep so you just people just come out
12:24 here and congregate and they just look
12:25 through this little
12:26 section
12:29 out through the Outfield
12:30 look at this
12:36 yeah you never you get a foul ball or a
12:36 home run ball
12:39 instead of the first base lines this is
12:41 out in right field
12:43 so they open up these Gates and they let
12:46 you get right up again that is amazing
12:48 each viewing area has limited capacity
12:51 of 24 viewers guests will be asked to
12:52 vacant to third Sixth and Ninth innings
13:01 so you can stand right up against there
13:01 and watch the game you don't need a
13:03 ticket
13:05 or at least you used to not need to take
13:06 it out of them
13:07 yeah listen it's been like a decade yeah
13:09 it's been 10 years so 2013 was the last
13:12 time you were at this field yep it was
13:14 like standing like
13:19 I think we have opened here
13:19 on April 11 2000 called Pacific Bell
13:22 Park and it became ATT and now Oracle
13:24 yeah
13:26 Candlestick was at a completely
13:28 different location
13:41 Lefty o'doul Third Street Bridge City
13:41 Landmark 194 built in 1933. the reason
13:45 we're back over here at left field three
13:48 Third Street Bridge because this is the
13:51 entrance where the tour
13:53 begins and we're not going to be the
13:55 only one on the tour about to head up 1
13:58 30 p.m tour it's time
14:27 so we have people from Tampa Bay yep
14:27 came in from Florida from Florida
14:30 all right we've got giant fans where's
14:33 everybody coming from we have five
14:35 levels
14:37 and uh we are only on 14 acres so we
14:42 have to accommodate over 41 000 people
14:47 on 13 acres
14:50 it's a replica of the fun of a glove
14:55 that the father of one of our councils
14:58 had in his house
15:20 get out there don't worry about me uh
15:20 Tony Bennett Street and why do we have
15:23 the Tony Bennett's sweet it was a big
15:27 Giants fan no
15:29 he's saying that this is it's not Tony
15:31 Bennett
15:39 she does a theme this year the theme is
15:39 very interesting it's called small
15:41 details giant stories please as you as
15:46 you walk through take as many pictures
15:48 as you like
15:49 uh they're very very commemorative Roger
15:53 Craig who you saw at the in the video
15:56 he passed away back in the Candlestick
16:00 Park days known as the home baby man
16:04 those are the faces
16:07 you know we have three new rules this
16:09 year folks you know rather than
16:11 15. so it's a bigger base therefore more
16:16 Steel
16:17 stolen bases are done a lot more now
16:21 yes rhemsky we played the Boston Red Sox
16:25 a couple of weekends ago it was very
16:27 exciting
16:29 because Mike usrevsky's grandson and
16:32 he's our player
16:34 you're certainly welcome to do the duty
16:36 nuts sure is why do we have them uh
16:39 Schultz was the peanut character artist
16:42 and he followed the Giants even from the
16:45 East Coast from Minnesota
16:47 Amazon
16:56 this is a really great picture of our
16:56 last World Series achievement against
16:58 the Royals and the only one of the
17:00 things I wanted to let you know about
17:02 our world series at that time was in
17:06 2014 they started replay
17:12 and there was on in game five Joe Panic
17:16 flipped a ball to a second a second base
17:20 person basement and we thought that the
17:25 gentleman was out
17:27 like they said the gentleman was saved
17:31 safe
17:32 and so because of 2014
17:36 Replay that started we were often able
17:40 to overturn that call I love it these
17:45 are those big these are the trophies the
17:48 trophies just finished the tour it was
17:52 awesome
17:53 the guide was amazing
17:55 she was definitely full of energy
17:58 so the game starts I think it's 6 30 or
18:02 6 40. it's about 3 15 right now
18:04 walking back over to the Java bar
18:08 that's what's called Java bar Red's Java
18:10 House red Java house and we're gonna get
18:12 some food
18:25 almost back over to Red's Java house
18:25 there's also event parking for the game
18:28 over here for fifty dollars
18:39 probably about half a mile from the
18:39 stadium I'm guessing
18:41 quick little walk
18:50 patio around back so we're gonna grab
18:50 the food and go out to the patio
18:53 Red's Java House
18:56 double cheeseburgers hot dogs and sodas
19:12 it's kind of interesting
19:12 just talking to the cashier worker here
19:14 she was saying that it's called Java
19:17 house because it started off as a coffee
19:19 house and over the years just got more
19:21 popular for hot dogs
19:23 and
19:24 hamburgers and their other items but
19:27 that it is called Jabba house because of
19:29 coffee they do have black coffee but
19:32 very rarely does anyone get us not known
19:34 for its coffee
19:35 and we're gonna we're ending up around
19:36 the back we're sitting around the back
19:39 over here we put the umbrellas up
19:43 get a little saw it's actually warmed up
19:46 quite a bit it's going to cool down
19:47 because the Sun starts to set a little
19:49 bit
19:50 a little later before first pitch
19:56 and there's only two Java houses there
19:56 is the one we passed earlier in front of
19:59 the stadium
20:00 and I guess originally they were they
20:04 were co-joined they were Affiliated and
20:06 they kind of split ownership years and
20:08 years ago and this is what we're dealing
20:10 with
20:11 food for the table got a little
20:14 Cornucopia of goodness here
20:17 now I know they're known for their
20:18 burgers and their hot dogs but I opted
20:21 for a sandwich they have a tuna fish
20:25 sandwich but I'm thinking that's
20:26 probably that's probably your burger
20:27 there
20:28 I also went with the chili and they said
20:31 you want cheese and onion sausage put
20:33 the onions on it said you want pickles
20:35 on it I said yeah give me some pickles
20:36 they put pickles in the chili and then
20:39 they asked what kind of bread I want I
20:41 said
20:41 what do you recommend they said
20:42 sourdough which is like San Francisco
20:44 thing so got some sourdough bread
20:46 I don't know what is about tuna fish
20:47 sandwiches always kind of makes me happy
20:49 reminds me of being young my mom making
20:52 tuna fish sandwiches for me
20:54 did you get the double burger or the
20:57 regular burger
21:03 that's what Bourdain got right the
21:03 double Patty I think that's what he got
21:06 he got it's pretty dang good it's pretty
21:09 dang good
21:30 how's the burger
21:37 of course with sourdough bread
21:37 dip it in the chili
21:46 all right walking back to the stadium
21:46 now this is kind of this residential
21:49 Warehouse area half residential half old
21:52 warehouses and look at the sign that's
21:55 wedged used to be an old advertisement
21:58 painted on the brick there but it's
22:00 covered up by this newer building
22:03 the old paint
22:06 is still up there
22:22 all right I have officially started my
22:22 17th stadium watching the race play and
22:27 there's the ongoing list of course
22:30 Tropicana Field the number one because
22:31 that's the race home field and then 16
22:33 other so 17 total all right Giants are
22:36 up now this is Wade mechler making his
22:38 MLB debut welcome to the show Wade
22:42 mechler
22:44 razor back up
22:46 got a guy on first and third two outs
22:49 he's talking to radius at the plate
23:03 but that's a double
23:03 two were already scored now another one
23:06 is now three to nothing now did the uh
23:10 with a double
23:24 one thing I like about this stadium is
23:24 you can just from the seats we're
23:25 sitting in you just kind of walk down
23:27 here get a snack use the facilities
23:42 got a guy in first and third and there
23:42 you go
23:44 four to nothing
23:47 lead over to Third
24:00 new to the race just called up from AAA
24:00 two days ago
24:02 I sure just need like a week or two ago
24:07 from the farm teams
24:18 oh yeah there's another one five to zero
24:18 Curtis May trotting across the plate
24:29 Giants have scored five to one now you
24:30 got your Giant's finger going
24:33 Hometown finger it's now dark enough for
24:37 the coke bottle is now illuminated green
24:46 next to the big glove
24:46 count
24:48 four count Bases Loaded
24:57 oh struck them out with Bases Loaded so
24:57 I just left three on
25:00 is pretty cool to see
25:09 seagulls look at this the seagulls I
25:09 think I've been to a game where I've
25:11 seen seagulls
25:20 Ray's got 18 hits Giants only got six
25:24 hits the race win the Rays win all right
25:28 that's gonna do it for today
