TDW 1575 - The Sandlot : Filming Locations

0:05 good morning Salt Lake City look at that

0:05 horizon the Sun is just starting to peak

0:11 up over the mountain ranges the dusty

0:14 desert II mountain ranges pretty

0:19 majestic if I do say so myself and I got

0:23 that time-lapse by putting a chair on

0:25 top of a table that way you wouldn't see

0:28 those metal poles and you would only see

0:30 the Sun Rise to look at that fine layer

0:32 of mist that is now formulating on the

0:36 ground over there

0:42 the rental car now it's time to do some

0:44 exploring it's my second channel daily

0:58 ah fall is in the air the leaves are

0:58 changing the air is crisp and there is a

1:01 dead blotch of a bug on my windshield

1:03 this convenience store has a Krispy

1:07 Kreme okay they fooled me they did not

1:11 have Krispy Kreme coffee in there but

1:13 they did have doughnuts got a water and

1:16 I got these look at the name of them

1:18 mystery man yeah these will work and for

1:24 this coffee is not as good as Krispy

1:27 Kremes coffee but those donuts mmm

1:30 delicious so good you ever see the movie

1:34 the Sandlot such a great film it's like

1:38 a childhood buddy comedy with baseball

1:43 intertwined you've never seen it you're

1:47 killing me smalls we're gonna start off

1:50 with where the kids lived right at the

1:53 end of this road at the cul-de-sac

1:55 sometimes people in neighborhoods are

1:57 kind of weird when you're wandering

1:58 around filming their houses it'd

2:01 probably be even weirder if I was

2:02 holding a sack of Kult ease

2:05 there's Benny's house the jet Rodriguez

2:09 that's where he lived he went on to play

2:12 with the Dodgers which is really awesome

2:15 at the end of the movie Scotty's house

2:17 is right here on the corner looks a

2:20 little bit different but that's where he

2:22 first moved into the neighborhood at the

2:23 beginning of the film that is so cool

2:25 and of course in the backyard is where

2:27 he was playing catch with his stepdad

2:30 and if you turn this way you can see a

2:33 couple shops on the movie where the kids

2:35 are running home and I always find it

2:38 interesting to match things up like this

2:41 manhole right here that you can see in

2:44 the shot when they're returning from the

2:45 baseball field back to their houses I

2:48 wonder if the people that live inside

2:49 that home have any clue of the history

2:53 of where they live you can also see the

2:55 fire hydrant is in the exact same spot

2:58 the light pole to the left of it is a

3:00 little bit different in the movie there

3:02 was a light pole behind the fire hydrant

3:04 but the garage behind the fire hydrant

3:07 still there

3:08 three of the kids all lived in this

3:09 cul-de-sac including ham who lived here

3:12 remember the scene where he runs out

3:14 they were having a 4th of July picnic

3:16 all in this little area here he grabs a

3:20 couple hot dogs and they run off that

3:22 way

3:23 there's Benny's house smalls house and

3:26 hams house moving along got about 20

3:32 miles to go to the next spot

3:42 whoa there's a dinosaur on the side of

3:42 the road right there they aren't extinct

3:48 some pretty cool murals here on the side

3:50 of this wall and the place we're looking

3:53 for is right here then set drug

4:05 I'm really glad this building still

4:05 exists it's closed but it looks pretty

4:08 much the same as it did in the movie

4:09 this is where they always bought their

4:10 baseballs right in there it was a real

4:13 store it's no longer in business you can

4:17 see those trees have grown considerably

4:19 since the movie was made but the sign

4:23 looks identical as well as that metal

4:25 awning exactly the same and also that

4:29 sidewalk

4:30 that's where squints saw windy

4:32 peppercorn it was kind of a low shot

4:34 where him and ya-ya came out of the

4:37 camera angle would have been somewhere

4:40 right around there when they came

4:42 walking out of those glass doors the

4:44 sidewalks been redone and the awnings

4:46 all the way down had been removed but

4:49 that's the spot strutting her stuff

4:51 straight towards us if you ever visit

4:53 this location in person don't just take

4:56 pictures of the front and leave keep in

4:58 mind that around the back of the

5:00 building was another pivotal saying even

5:02 though the doors are boarded up there is

5:05 a relic of movie history right up here

5:07 in the form of this sign in fact if you

5:10 look at it from this angle this exact

5:13 shot that I'm staring at present-day

5:15 is also in the film that electrical box

5:18 sign awning and this is kind of blowing

5:20 my mind right now right against that

5:22 wall is where they were all sitting

5:24 around talking about Babe Ruth the great

5:27 Bambino the Sultan of Swat the Colossus

5:30 of clout little apartment complex behind

5:33 looks a little bit different but the

5:36 brick wall on the left so what's the

5:37 same well new grid Quimby know what boom

5:41 buckwheat boom bingo

5:42 what's next stop 49 miles straight ahead

5:59 Antelope Drive if I ever saw one of

5:59 those animals driving a vehicle

6:04 it would be amazing whoa look at that

6:06 plane holy cow it took me by surprise

6:09 coming over the road was trying to show

6:12 those hang gliders up top that plane

6:14 came out of no way wonder if those two

6:15 hang gliders soiled their pants when

6:18 they saw that that air lighter coming

6:21 towards them I always loved those little

6:22 squiggly dancing guys this is a very

6:25 adventurous gas station there are

6:28 paintings of forests all along the wall

6:31 and look over here there's a snowboarder

6:34 on the ceiling and this girl she's in a

6:39 kayak check that car out adorned with

6:45 decor

6:54 I think I see it over there yep that's

6:54 it this is the pool where squints kissed

6:58 Wendy and her lifeguard stand was

7:02 basically right in the center of the

7:05 screen right about there right in front

7:13 of that pole once the boys are thrown

7:17 out of the pool they are escorted out of

7:20 this door and it pretty much looks the

7:23 same as it did except for this concrete

7:27 pathway that has been added but this

7:29 rock wall still here and they started

7:32 walking directly towards us and squints

7:37 gets one last look by standing at the

7:40 fence at Wendy peppercorn this was the

7:45 pole he walked up to of course he was

7:48 much shorter than I am because he was a

7:49 child but he basically was sitting just

7:52 like this staring at her

7:57 her lifeguard stand would have been

7:59 somewhere between the window on the left

8:02 and that door on the right

8:12 right about there and then they run off

8:12 that way I think it's so cool that that

8:14 big tree is still in the shot as well

8:17 that's the same fence there is one shot

8:19 of the pool that they had from a crane

8:21 shot that was basically right about

8:23 where that light pole is about that

8:25 height I do not have a crane but I do

8:27 have the Majestic so I'm going to

8:30 attempt to fly it over the pool get the

8:32 same angle from the movie basically what

8:35 they had is a crane I'm getting the same

8:36 elevation with the DJI phantom4

8:39 and there you have it the pool the

8:42 famous epic pool from the Sandlot

8:56 about 37 miles to go to the next

8:56 destination originally I wasn't going to

8:58 rent a car here in Salt Lake City area I

9:01 was going to just take uber 'z and then

9:03 I started to do the math on how far it

9:06 was respond to spot to spot so first

9:08 thing this morning when got the rental

9:11 car it was definitely a good decision

9:16 there's a lot of driving today play

9:23 I think the next destination lies

9:26 straight ahead at one point the rich kid

9:29 showed up and challenged the boys from

9:31 the Sandlot to a baseball game and they

9:33 played that game on this field is a shot

9:36 from this angle of Benny running the

9:39 bases pretty much looks the same except

9:42 the shingles on the far left dugout roof

9:44 are green now but even check out that

9:48 air conditioner unit right there on the

9:51 side of the snack bar and the announcer

9:54 stand it looks like the bleachers have

9:57 been changed as well as the back fencing

9:59 but everything else looks the same by

10:02 using my Columbo like research skills

10:05 this is where that hole was right there

10:08 above hams head and he would have stood

10:11 right there talking trash to the

10:15 batter's cache I love that scene you

10:20 think she'd go out with me we are now

10:22 headed to the final spot the holy grail

10:26 of the film itself are you guys as

10:28 excited about this as I am

10:29 we're actually going there to the spot

10:32 we have a dramatic Sun flare for a

10:35 little bit of effect we're now in a

10:37 residential area and the last location

10:40 is very difficult to find because it is

10:44 behind all these houses and there really

10:46 is no way of entering it without

10:49 trespassing on someone's property

10:52 which I do not really want to do today I

10:54 stop for a minute and talk to a

10:55 gentleman who owned one of the houses

10:57 back here and he was saying that the guy

11:00 who owns the property that I want to see

11:03 is not real happy about people visiting

11:06 it and he has put up signs saying these

11:09 are the penalties if you cover my

11:10 property it's a good thing that another

11:14 option exists on majestic so here is my

11:18 solution to this conundrum but take the

11:21 drone up in the air go between the

11:24 houses if there is no entry to be gained

11:26 - and there it is say hello to the

11:30 filming locations where all nine of the

11:33 boys gathered played baseball hung out

11:36 as friends Shawn cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo

11:39 cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo the sandlots this

11:45 is also the exact area in this general

11:48 vicinity not only where the baseball

11:50 field was or the crazy old man who did

11:54 not like people on their property kind

11:56 of like the guy who owns the property

11:57 now this is it

11:58 the field man this is awesome in fact

12:03 you could even say majestic I just got

12:06 to thinking what if it really was James

12:08 Earl Jones it now owns the property give
