0:05 welcome everyone Adam through here and
0:05 Cody hold it's a little warmer it's a
0:09 little warmer here I gotta give it that
0:10 little rainy this warmer some have
0:12 created a nickname Kolby coldy holdy
0:15 because you have been a little on the
0:17 chilly side I have lost track of what
0:19 day it is from Florida I'm not used to
0:21 impact right although state by state
0:23 we're heading southbound we're going to
0:26 be covering two different areas the
0:29 first into Arkansas the stomping grounds
0:32 of the man in black man Johnny Cash
0:37 Johnny Cash right I'm excited I'm pretty
0:41 excited too I'm being I've been like
0:43 we've been listening to some of his
0:45 tunes and albums in the car as we cruise
0:47 so it should be fun inviting you to join
0:50 me Cody
0:51 shall you
1:10 here in the state Welcome Center is a
1:10 little display there he is up top a
1:13 little kitty cat a legend in his own
1:16 time the man his world and his music and
1:23 a cardboard stand up holding his guitar
1:26 right there there he is in his younger
1:28 years and a little bit later in life off
1:32 in the distance you can see the water
1:34 tower for dice gonna make this turn at
1:37 the intersection of Johnny Cash Memorial
1:42 Highway also the boyhood home of Jean
1:46 Williams back at the Welcome Center I
1:52 asked the pronunciation it was told dice
1:56 originally I had guessed
1:57 daya's but dice is what they stated
2:06 here's the water tower
2:06 the downtown area it's not us town
2:09 square it's a town circle very very much
2:15 Americana
2:26 that was a 4-wheeler the theater still
2:26 stands very retro
2:44 Town Hall very much like a mansion no
2:44 one outside is very peaceful very quiet
2:52 there was another building in the spot
2:54 up until 1944 when fire destroyed it the
2:59 colony established in 1934 by President
3:02 Roosevelt slab of the former commissary
3:07 that went by the wayside in 57 but there
3:12 is a little storefront over there on the
3:13 corner adjacent to the city hall in fact
3:17 a rusted-out pepsi sign up there still
3:22 stands
4:01 a local pulled up and gave us maybe some
4:01 directions wrote them down for us I was
4:04 standing here admiring this dr. pepper
4:09 okay
4:09 incoming she said it says volunteer fire
4:15 department yep oh yeah I see it now
4:18 takes you a minute what do you think it
4:26 says underneath that's what I was trying
4:28 to figure what was painted over I think
4:30 it says recycling recycling recycling
4:33 plant that's what they put over top of
4:34 it that's why these trucks are our old
4:37 recycling but I think that on the top is
4:40 an old siren I think you're right
4:44 yeah and walk the line the film about
4:48 his life this building was used in one
4:51 of the early scenes yeah right up inside
4:55 that door to your left is where he was a
5:00 kid
5:01 and his brother ran here brother was
5:03 working brother ended up getting cut up
5:05 while he went out fishing
5:07 it's where his accident happened right
5:09 inside this door camera facing outward
5:13 into the town square
5:15 you can notice the top are these pillars
5:19 were the V was in the shabbat and often
5:22 that far distance is that white plaque
5:42 my guys cruising hanging out in order to
5:42 get to his childhood home I get to take
5:45 this dirt just on the outskirts of town
5:54 a couple miles give or take a little bit
6:02 of a ways an unpaved section a few years
6:07 ago they restored it to its former glory
6:11 where he moved down in 1935 at the age
6:15 of three till about 18 or 19 1953 I
6:20 believe is when he left
6:25 currently it was a fence around an annus
6:25 locked
6:26 today they are not giving tours but
6:28 still we're stopping by he sold over 90
6:31 million albums during his lifelong
6:33 career it's pretty interesting one of
6:36 the most iconic musicians of our or past
6:41 right here in this hole that rights are
6:48 to come down drop just dropped on the
6:51 lens
7:02 the wind coming across the pines he
7:02 returned here a little later in life a
7:04 nostalgic trip down memory lane some of
7:07 that footage was used in the hurt video
7:10 very powerful him looking in the windows
7:13 and reminiscing inside the address
7:28 posted is number 266 the only one left
7:32 of these homes in the immediate
7:34 neighborhood I'm just kind of peeking up
7:39 over the chain-link ideas from a mini a
7:45 song stump from this humble
7:49 accommodations including the cotton
7:51 fields behind it
7:54 reference and quite a few of his hits
8:11 very gusty and went a higher cool
8:11 briskness in the air that is for sure
8:45 greetings from Memphis made it into
8:45 Tennessee a little pit stop for a meal
8:49 the establishment is a barbecue place
8:51 called Corky's there's a pig with the
8:54 chef's add-on out front and this is what
8:57 we're dealing with hood even with the
8:58 mac and cheese and big old work action
9:02 and I went with the catfish oh yeah and
9:06 look who's sitting in the booth next to
9:07 us over there a little photograph of
9:09 Johnny painting there is a flag in your
9:13 pickle there and you're just going to
9:14 town on that mac and cheese sandwich
9:17 doing that usually ready to quick we
9:20 were about to leave and realize we
9:21 didn't try any baked beans and you what
9:23 do you got over here you got some banana
9:25 pudding little made it said okay so
9:26 we're gonna go this is supposed to be
9:28 their specialty for dessert and okay I
9:31 think we needed beans first and it would
9:33 have been a no putting fur to top it off
9:34 might have consumed a little too much
9:37 but only because it was good would eat
9:40 here again most definitely this was the
9:44 second home he purchased here in Memphis
9:46 right after his success as a musician
9:57 lived here for three or four years
9:57 starting in 57
10:06 into this day currently there is a
10:06 guitar top of the mailbox
10:37 a few years prior to that other home
10:37 him and his first wife Vivian moved in
10:39 here the first homestead in town he was
10:43 still adore door salesman 1954 I believe
10:49 yeah believe us 54 the one on the left
10:53 is the address that matches up but I
10:55 believe it was the entire home at that
10:58 point now I think it might be apartments
11:06 the site of his first gig for money took
11:06 place inside this church building for a
11:09 charity event during Christmas himself
11:13 in the Tennessee - took the stage and
11:17 just down the block a bit is a statue of
11:21 mr. cash right there on the sidewalk
11:24 some of the songs that they played one
11:28 of them was his own composition
11:30 Belshazzar referring to the Babylonian
11:33 king in the Book of Daniel also peace in
11:36 the valley walking the floor over you
11:39 and several Christmas homes after that
11:43 first performance they did then became
11:46 the Tennessee 3 adding himself into the
11:49 mix with the other two
12:08 just hanging around oh you hear that
12:08 in the background I can hear a trainer
12:10 coming around the bend and the nightfall
12:15 has reared his head so I haven't really
12:18 seen the sunshine and I don't know what
12:48 Johnny Cash that we're 26:32 to
12:48 September 12 83 yeah 1 million records
12:52 sold 17 Grammys 48 singles on the 100

13:00 Country Music Hall of Fame
13:01 Kenny Center Honors the National Medal
13:04 of Honor and the Grammy Lifetime
13:05 Achievement Award thats a that's a
13:08 that's a lifelong it's a good resume
13:10 yeah
13:16 it's almost as if he's exiting out of
13:17 the church spot of his first gig and
13:19 about to cross the road
13:45 as we were commuting over to Sun Records
13:45 to finish out the evening pulled off the
13:49 street notice this it's a very large
13:53 mural just doing some thinking wasn't
13:58 sure we'd find a painting like this here
