today's adventure brings us to the
0:02
beauty in and around Yosemite National
0:06
Park if I pan to the left under the
0:10
shadow of this mountain you can see
0:13
peeking up over the horizon the Sun
0:18
starting to rise
0:20
welcome everyone Adams woo here over the
0:24
next series of days I will be spending
0:26
time with my family my mom my dad and my
0:29
sister none of them have been to
0:33
Yosemite before and I share in that
0:35
sentiment because this also is my first
0:38
experience here so it should be fun
0:41
roaming around seeing the sights
0:43
learning things and probably missing a
0:46
few things here and there but we're
0:48
gonna make the best of it we're just
0:49
gonna soak it in and go at a leisurely
0:51
pace I figured I'd bring the camera
0:55
along you could say I'm inviting you to
0:58
join me shall you the world-famous
1:03
talking bear I've heard of you I've
1:06
heard I've heard of the bear that speaks
1:10
any words of wisdom
1:14
any words of wisdom bear he's being very
1:17
shy perhaps he has not had his coffee
1:20
there are no syllables and sounds
1:23
enunciated out of his mouth there's some
1:26
sort of prodding device back here let's
1:31
try this
1:31
oh he ground I was born careless why
1:38
only 9 inches long and weighed less with
1:41
a bountiful but mother's milk was 5
1:44
times richer than high quality cows dope
1:46
so after about 90 days
1:52
it was kinda difficult to hear and with
1:52
the traffic passing by but but he
1:56
definitely has it has started and
2:00
started talking quite a bit help I know
2:10
he asked me to check out his nose he's
2:10
almost like a ventriloquist he doesn't
2:11
even move his mouth remanufactured
2:13
always byproducts in turtle again
2:15
recycled wood over and over to the body
2:17
passer buyers just know they just kind
2:20
of ignore him it keeps rambling on
2:30
no one pays attention no one even Hawks
2:30
no one gives a friendly Hawk to the
2:32
talking bear bell rings bears career
2:34
area now and later on because they
2:36
remember what they've done that food
2:37
just watch like my cousin see if this
2:40
guy waves our hogs fire without my heart
2:43
nope just an awkward stare Oh cursed is
2:47
known as the Gateway to the National
2:50
Park this park ranger is huge she's
2:55
bigger than the mountain peaks behind
2:58
her it's the attack of the 50-foot waa
3:03
mane I do like how I'll do like how the
3:07
Sun kind of protrude to that signage
3:10
makes for a cool shot check out this guy
3:12
he's just trying to find some peace a
3:15
few birds up in those trees there I was
3:18
noticing this mural that has been
3:21
painted along the wall next to a
3:24
pharmacy just shows some of the sights
3:28
it can be seen in this neck of the woods
3:31
I like this quote and every walk with
3:34
nature one receives far more than he
3:38
seeks and look to the right of it it's a
3:41
painting of a tree that you can walk
3:44
through let me rephrase it's a painting
3:47
of a tree it's an artistic rendering of
3:49
the one you can walk through don't
3:51
attempt it on this concrete wall she
3:53
will have a Wiley coyote moment this
3:57
slab of giant sequoia was cut from a
3:59
2,000 year old tree that was toppled by
4:01
a winter storm in 1979 it is a very
4:07
large piece of wood and speaking of look
4:11
to the far right there's a very tall
4:14
Statue of Liberty took a lot of work to
4:17
chisel out from the base all the way to
4:21
the top of this 25-foot Lady Liberty
4:27
holding the torch proudly
4:43
arrived out with the sugar pine railroad
4:43
down that hill we're gonna board a train
4:47
car and look at trees just like this one
4:50
I believe this is a sugar pine that's
4:55
not well at least I don't think that's a
4:57
sugar pine but I think that is hence the
5:00
name of the railroad
5:33
the ticket office side the lettering is
5:33
written on a blade see this is the saw
5:36
that cuts cuts into the wood and they've
5:39
just turned it into the into the sign
5:43
from 1899 in 1931 the Madera sugar pine
5:47
lumber company logged over 30,000 acres
5:52
in the immediate area while we wait to
5:54
board and head down the hill a little
5:57
bit there's a few other buildings
5:58
there's a bookstore and looks like down
6:02
here you can even pan for some gold well
6:11
this is a different kind of Fortuna it
6:12
has lots of double its not a single it's
6:15
got lots of Dibble different things in
6:18
there so they look at us see how pretty
6:20
that is so is that a normal person or
6:24
one right there and this is a double
6:26
petunia yeah yo you have some gold in
6:33
the tray iron pyrite Fool's Gold but I
6:38
keep fool's gold there to show people
6:39
how to talk okay so this is this is not
6:43
real gold you can tell this is not gold
6:45
right because it's great but when it
6:47
breaks into little tiny pieces now it
6:49
looks kind of Goldy right that's when it
6:51
fools people but here's the thing
6:53
iron pirate is a spark is a crystal and
6:56
it sparkles and twinkles if you move
6:57
your head back and forth you can make it
6:59
all Sparkle and twinkle right Gold is a
7:02
metal gold does not Sparkle
7:05
so if you see something on the ground
7:07
and you think it might be gold move your
7:08
head back and forth and if it sparkles
7:10
and twinkles then it's not gold it's
7:12
iron pyrite it's fool's gold
7:13
but if it gleams then it might be gold
7:15
and you should pick it up and look at it
7:18
and this is the real deal that's about
7:21
$300 worth of gold panned out of the
7:23
Merced River this little vial is 300
7:27
bucks if you were to sell it on that
7:28
gold market maybe a little more because
7:30
it's a half an ounce it's a half ounce
7:32
bottle about half full and the last time
7:34
I looked gold was thirteen hundred and
7:35
one dollar and sixty cents an hour
7:45
some wind chimes there it's not swaying
7:48
in the breeze actually before I hit
7:49
record I just kind of shifted them
7:52
around so it try to make noise it's not
7:54
really making that much there goes there
7:58
it is
8:00
that's our pony well not really a pony
8:04
it's just a figure of speech and on the
8:08
front says locomotive works number ten
8:12
is the icon kind of scared me a little
8:17
you see number ten on the front there
8:21
see the water dripping and the steam
8:26
protruding up where they cut out some
8:28
logs we're gonna be sitting in so I
8:31
think you can sit well both are open AR
8:34
either with you know an awning keep you
8:37
from the Sun or you can sit in this
8:38
cutout law it will not translate to
8:40
video very well you can hear the ground
8:43
rumbling just a little bit of just the
8:46
engine moving it just kind of just kind
8:49
of slightly jiggling the earth
8:57
it's a powerful powerful piece of
8:57
machinery special ticket good for one
9:00
round-trip passage I got my ticket you
9:03
got your ticket I got my check you're
9:05
ready to board can even mail a letter
9:09
from here you just slide it in this
9:11
looks like an old school letter box
9:13
where dad is pushing his finger he's
9:17
displaying it and you can see how mail
9:19
used to be deliver delivered by
9:21
horseback not anymore
9:23
not anymore
9:53
I was like that close as it could be a
9:53
little crowd starting to congregate
9:54
we're just waiting patiently and soon
9:56
we'll be for be boarding to take our
9:59
seats
10:19
companies in sustain a wildfire came
10:19
through this area starting August 29th
10:21
of last year working for two weeks
10:23
destroying two thoughts for 12,000 acres
10:25
before it makes a wrapper on fire to do
10:28
it but let me go on location majority of
10:31
the damage was confined to the far side
10:32
of the can in that's you can see from
10:34
here
11:06
took a little pit stop letting everyone
11:06
walk around and while we do that they
11:09
are refilling the water tank you can see
11:12
the pike there with the water they're
11:15
dripping down into the back that's
11:19
pretty cool that's about slipped
11:27
not lost my footing this is pretty
11:27
interesting a look at the look at the
11:29
dust I kicked up under this root system
11:33
it's where the water is going
11:49
the little stage built out here that's
11:49
the backside of it
11:50
everyone's walk down the hill to get
11:53
to get a look at the at the roaring
11:56
waters not to roaring just a little
12:00
creek but
12:02
beautiful some what appears to be
12:06
carpenter ants they're not red ants
12:19
they're calling for me ringing the bell
12:24
and to get back on board
12:40
oh my gosh you can hear this thing
12:40
creaking as it turns I have my ticket
12:42
out because now the conductor you can
12:45
see them up there finally about a third
12:47
of the way through the trek he's
12:50
starting to punch the tickets but we
12:52
turn that corner you can hear the wood
12:54
you can hear the wood creaking and
12:57
making noises it's like just kind of
12:59
kind of pulsing with each and every turn
13:02
of the railroad track
13:11
thank you thank you first section of the
13:11
trip on the back end because there are
13:26
points where the Sun is like blazing
13:27
down on your head there are other
13:29
sections where the trees way up there
13:32
cast a good shadow and a decent amount
13:35
of shade is it's all part of the
13:37
experience in a very back seat my mom
13:40
dad and sister I can see them see them
13:43
back there barely
13:50
try to get it away but they're
13:50
preoccupied getting their ticket stamps
13:52
this thing is a workhorse we're going
13:56
uphill a very heavy heavy grade upwards
14:02
it's handling it like a champ
15:20
after disembarking ahead into the
15:20
Thornberry museum you can buy your own
15:23
little Sequoia and it eventually turned
15:26
into a giant Sequoia this pinecone
15:36
came off of a sugar pine tree look out
15:40
look at the size of this thing it's
15:43
about probably twice the size of what a
15:44
regular but a regular pinecone would be
15:48
mr. build and they can give you six and
15:51
it was belonged to the Thornberrys I'm
15:52
guessing because of the name it's
15:53
correct and they moved it from a
15:55
different spot to here now the tree so
16:01
they wanted that historic building we
16:05
have a museum so they put here actually
16:09
over that before they were told boy was
16:12
okay so where the clock was with a front
16:13
door at one time even though they do
16:17
sell a few newer items there are some
16:21
some interesting things along the wall
16:23
we got this this Ram skull and a deer
16:28
head some oil cans and then over in the
16:33
corner a lot of old-school tools and
16:36
whatnot
16:38
these are not for sale these are just
16:40
for display this is like a big hammer oh
16:42
wow there they are
16:43
the Thornberrys mr. and mrs. sitting on
16:47
the front porch which is now the museum
16:50
and as the gentleman mentioned that's
16:52
the door behind this clock that was the
16:54
original front door and now that they've
16:56
converted it to a gift shop front door
16:58
is a massage what was the most
17:00
fascinating part of the ride for you
17:03
but five can do to a lot of trees
17:05
there's a lot of fire damage ten years
17:12
there'll be lots of new trees so as long
17:14
as there's a little bit of green left on
17:16
a fire damage tree it will spring back
17:18
up what was your favorite part
17:21
well you know I had really enjoyed this
17:22
speaker guy the tour guide fellow as he
17:25
was explaining all the different details
17:29
about the train company where he came
17:31
from how it developed and how it ended
17:33
and just thought that's a what's the
17:36
beauty of the little sides I mean this
17:38
is just one last look near the bottom of
17:46
the train to see the fire there
17:54
it's very toasty very warm that's what
17:54
creates the steam it helps create the
17:56
same pan out show you give you a
18:00
perspective of what I was just looking
18:02
at fire down below and the steam above
18:08
all right moving on about to head down
18:12
Lewis Creek Trail there is a warning
18:15
sign for mountain lions avoid hiking
18:19
alone and if you encounter a lion
18:22
do not run don't crouch down hold your
18:26
guard wave your arms around and shout oh
18:30
man coming into a clearing around that
18:35
rock look down there
18:37
oh man that's like that's a pretty good
18:41
sized drop-off
18:52
that's beautiful up you don't want to
18:52
get too close to the edge you can lose
18:54
your footing on this leaves they're very
18:55
very slick but this overlook is pretty
19:01
magnificent the water rustling by stream
19:05
careening down the mountain the roaring
19:07
water has gotten a little louder the
19:09
reason for that is this waterfall so
19:16
awesome
19:18
standing on the edge of this rock kind
19:21
of looking down upon the beauty of it
20:05
from where I just was it's about another
20:05
half mile walk down to the bottom of
20:08
this gorge
20:09
but well worth it because take a look at
20:14
that holy cow that is
20:19
it's impressive I thought it looked
20:21
pretty amazing from the top but hiking
20:26
down to the bottom definitely gives you
20:29
a much different perspective incredible
20:40
temperature down here in the shade is
20:40
nice too you get the coolness
20:42
coming off the water
20:45
as it falls down the rocks
21:03
do it for today from Yosemite well
21:03
technically just on the outskirts of
21:07

21:42
indentation
21:51

21:51
mouth
22:00
nose indentation and the eye socket it's
22:00
a happy Rock it's a smiley happy rock
22:09
I'm just happy we made it back up to the
22:09
top going down the mountain easy going
22:13
back up a little more difficult
