0:03 welcome everyone adam the woo here is
0:03 very sun sunny which is nice here at
0:06 myrtle beach south carolina as a
0:07 recording of this january 24th
0:10 2022 and today i have no real game plan
0:15 so i'm going to be
0:17 shown around by the
0:19 retro myrtle beach guy did i get that
0:22 correct yes sir what's up
0:24 why why did you give yourself that name
0:26 oh it's like everything pretty much my
0:28 clothes and car and everything in my
0:32 life is pretty much uh old school i
0:33 generally prefer the older right okay
0:37 so do you know a lot about the area when
0:39 it comes to vintageness and retroness oh
0:41 yeah um i mean there
0:43 actually where we're standing is kind of
0:45 the old downtown area look at that
0:47 classic car
0:49 well it's not as old as yours what kind
0:50 of car do you have over there it's a 63
0:53 chevy corvair it was america's first
0:56 rear engine uh car was supposed to
0:58 compete with the imports the
1:01 volkswagens and everything so we gonna
1:02 drive around in that oh yeah we could
1:04 cruise that would be pretty cool
1:07 so what can they find on your channel if
1:08 they were to go to your channel oh i do
1:10 uh style fashion uh home decor and
1:14 design stuff uh local events mostly
1:17 local stuff okay uh news and stuff like
1:20 that the retro myrtle beach guy anything
1:23 that's uh old school within myrtle beach
1:26 that's me r was to be r m
1:29 r g r m b g
1:31 that's a can i call you that rf
1:35 and you said right over here used to be
1:37 a internet cafe
1:38 yeah remember that back before we had
1:40 smartphones
1:42 all right well i i'm in your hands today
1:44 you show me around we're starting off
1:45 here at city hall right over near this
1:47 bus station
1:50 we're not going to get on a bus we're
1:51 going to get in a classic car you're
1:52 going to show me around well and they
1:53 also have uh
1:55 flea markets and uh farmers markets and
1:57 stuff like that over here on weekends by
1:59 louisville
2:00 they do a lot of them okay
2:03 very cool
2:07 so what were you saying was right in
2:07 this area
2:09 oh i like the shoes oh yeah nice
2:12 deck shoes now see i would look at those
2:14 and think they were bowling shoes but
2:15 they're called deck shoes that's kind of
2:17 they say i think they were like cruise
2:19 cruise wares so i had the tennis shoes
2:21 on i guess
2:22 i guess these are like 90s
2:24 90s
2:25 you actually know what they're called
2:30 nice
2:30 okay i'm gonna zoom in your car finish
2:32 the intro and then we'll get going
2:43 all right i'm inviting you to join me
2:43 and the retro myrtle beach guy in his
2:46 classic car alert
2:48 shall you before we get in the car he
2:50 was just pointing out this maryland
2:52 fried chicken which on its own is very
2:54 retro
2:55 looking but this used to be an esso gas
2:57 station
2:58 one of the first gas stations around
3:01 but still very retro look and
3:05 you can get some leg specials with
3:09 fred pork chops
3:11 what is a fred pork chop
3:13 specialty is it supposed to be fried i
3:15 think
3:17 liver and gizzards i've never had a
3:18 gizzard but i have had fish and shrimp
3:21 as well
3:23 that's wild like even the buildings that
3:24 were placed our vintage buildings are
3:26 vintage now they're so awful even the
3:28 vintage buildings have a vintage history
3:30 an esso gas station
3:32 oh this is where the the pumps were
3:34 right in the middle where the pumps were
3:35 right here
3:37 so maybe right over in this section yeah
3:38 this is right about
3:40 or everything you can still kind of see
3:42 where they would be
3:43 yeah that's pretty neat and then uh you
3:46 got mr sub over there and that's only
3:48 maybe about from the 70s or 80s i
3:50 believe i do like the mr sub logo
3:53 i always like how mascots want you to
3:55 eat them right
3:57 yeah i'm unsure of the the
3:59 anthropomorphism
4:00 that's something
4:05 it's funny because i remember being like
4:05 the best someplace ever when i came back
4:07 as an adult it really isn't awesome so
4:09 when you were youth you came here you
4:10 said i gotta go to mr subs when i
4:13 long return
4:13 that vacation to go to mr subs yeah it's
4:16 okay
4:17 it does have a pretty sweet neon though
4:19 that probably lights up at night oh yeah
4:20 and a bunch of little light bulbs if
4:22 they had t-shirts i would wear mr sub
4:24 t-shirt though parked in the original
4:26 downtown you were saying this is all the
4:27 original downtown city hall here and
4:30 these are some of the original stores
4:31 the gas station on the corner this is so
4:33 is this the old city hall or is this
4:35 still used to city hall i i don't know
4:37 if that's the original building but i
4:38 think it's at least like the 40s or 50s
4:41 i like the little weather was it weather
4:42 main up top
4:43 i never know what to say weather main or
4:45 is it weather vape
4:47 whether vain i always get the
4:50 weather vane so your car is so give me a
4:53 little info on your car real quick
4:54 before we jump in here well yeah um this
4:56 was america's first rear engine car um
4:59 it was kind of assassinated by ralph
5:01 nader when he wrote a book called unsafe
5:03 at any speed
5:04 so yeah enjoy the ride
5:07 so it's not a safe car it was rumored to
5:10 not be because of its uh rear swing axle
5:13 and this and that okay i thought it
5:14 would spin out
5:16 but it really was more like a
5:17 maintenance issue i mean i've been
5:19 driving it for a while and i've never
5:20 had any problems
5:22 i mean it's 60 years old still on the
5:24 roads how long have you had it for all
5:25 right um we just got it uh at the end of
5:28 the summer
5:30 by 2015 it was full vintage wow so this
5:33 is your daily driver yeah this is my
5:34 only car do you feature in your videos
5:36 oh yeah this is one of the main things
5:38 we'll do is take cruises on the streets
5:39 oh very cool turtle beach you gotta have
5:41 a cool car it's like so during the
5:43 summer you take this in the car cruises
5:45 oh yeah we go to the car shows there's
5:46 actually a lot of biggest car shows the
5:48 run to the sun where they have a
5:50 thousand thousands of cars here
5:53 here i'll show you it's funny because of
5:54 course the engine
5:59 wow
6:01 it's a six cylinder flat
6:04 um
6:10 it's called a pancake engine okay
6:10 but it's uh what year is it
6:13 i actually have an engine's office for
6:15 1685 engines
6:17 65 engine and a 63.
6:21 it looks clean it looks good
6:23 together
6:25 all right i'm excited to ride around the
6:27 classic car that's awesome
6:29 much better than taking my vehicle this
6:31 has a little more style oh yeah
6:33 especially
6:34 but we're definitely the two biggest
6:36 people who've ever been in this thing
6:39 i am not finn just so heads up
6:41 yeah the work of the state goes there so
6:43 what is this what's the what's the corsa
6:45 uh this is the corvair club um it's one
6:48 of the reasons why these things still
6:49 run forever is there's local groups and
6:53 everybody knows how to work on them and
6:55 they're big enthusiasts i mean when i
6:56 first got this thing i didn't know
6:58 anything about it
6:59 i contacted my local corporate courser
7:02 club
7:24 yeah no power windows
7:24 you do have a you have a kind of an
7:26 updated radio here
7:28 safety i put the bluetooth in there so i
7:30 can do the hands-free
7:38 monza was that what does that mean uh
7:38 manza is a uh racetrack in italy so they
7:41 named it after this was supposed to be a
7:43 sporty
7:44 economy car i love this can i just crack
7:47 this down oh yeah oh that's cool and a
7:49 little side there too
7:52 that was cool
7:53 oh yeah that happened i'm making them go
7:55 back to
7:56 how they used to look so the old
7:58 downtown they're trying to make it how
7:59 it used to be
8:02 a brewery over there which has
8:03 apartments upstairs which is quite nice
8:08 so what is the grand strand what does
8:10 the strand mean well um
8:12 this is one of the largest uninterrupted
8:15 beaches i think in the country it's 60
8:18 miles straight of beautiful sandy
8:20 beaches
8:22 they used to say that it was the uh the
8:23 finest strand in america america's
8:27 finest strand but it also has or we have
8:30 very fine uh
8:33 sand here it's extremely so strange is
8:36 another word for sand uh well i think
8:38 beach so it's like the strip of of
8:41 beaches that run
8:43 so i always see the word strand
8:46 it also could be like the stretch of the
8:47 road perhaps yeah i think it's just the
8:50 beaches they call the people who live
8:51 around here stranded
8:53 stranders yeah grand strand news grants
8:56 are not grand stands grand strands and
8:58 there was a place called the grand stand
9:01 back when we were probably kids um i
9:03 think it had like shows and stuff like
9:06 that how do i put this back on i just
9:08 just put it on the floor
9:10 put it on the floor yeah okay all right
9:13 we're off to a good start hey look at
9:14 the back seat here you can see a little
9:16 it's not too icy today but there's a
9:18 little bit of
9:19 a little bit built up there about what
9:21 about 35 degrees now 36 degrees
9:24 something i had to to get the ice off my
9:26 windshield this morning you did oh yeah
9:28 crazy so this is a convertible that it
9:31 is wow
9:36 in the car shows you probably take the
9:36 top down oh yeah
9:40 see i would have a clark griswold moment
9:42 with this i would not know where the gas
9:44 goes in of course he was around the back
9:45 and the license plate yanked the license
9:47 plate off in vacation but that's what
9:49 would happen with
9:51 yeah everyone's always looking like what
9:52 are you doing that is so neat man
9:55 the best is when you go grocery shopping
9:57 you pop the hood up and people see you
10:00 start loading
10:06 yeah right
10:06 this is cool too
10:14 they are nice
10:14 yeah this thing is
10:20 60-something camaro that fender down
10:20 there when we're pulling away from it's
10:22 pretty awesome that is definitely
10:27 old-timey looking i like that phenomenal
10:28 yeah so that ferris bull has been there
10:30 for a while
10:32 and this is a theme park called family
10:34 kingdom which does not open till spring
10:36 i drove by the sign the other day
10:38 most of the major attractions around
10:40 here don't reopen until spring because
10:41 you know the cold weather
10:43 anything indoors does but a lot of these
10:44 outdoor ones are so close well a lot of
10:47 these rides are from the pavilion
10:48 originally
10:50 so what is the pavilion people have
10:51 mentioned that what was the pavilion it
10:53 was
10:54 like you know when your carnival comes
10:56 to town
10:57 it's like that but permanent so it was
10:59 just a whole huge bunch of rides and
11:03 calliopes and
11:05 you know like the old uh
11:07 pipe organs and stuff
11:09 and buffer i've noticed a few people
11:11 have mentioned that that was kind of the
11:13 beginning of the end of all the retro
11:15 stuff for myrtle beach that's what they
11:17 say the thing is is that unfortunately
11:19 people you know they
11:21 they get complaining about oh you know
11:25 homelessness or this or that like it's
11:28 you know downtown is dangerous or
11:30 whatever but that was it was a big
11:32 concentrated amount of people with very
11:35 little oversight so they really
11:37 dismantled it because it would have
11:39 gotten much worse
11:41 if they hadn't but they split it up into
11:43 uh family kingdom has some of the rides
11:46 there's pavilion west
11:48 broadway some of those rides you saw
11:50 yesterday
11:51 or the other day um and then there's uh
11:53 one up north at barefoot where they have
11:56 a couple rides and they're all like very
11:58 old so the rides still exist they just
12:00 they're different spots yeah they just
12:02 move the polynesian
12:03 it's the sign is amazing look at that
12:06 polynesian beach and golf resort oh with
12:09 the little hula girl there too
12:11 there's an old chevy truck right there
12:13 too right yeah this is a chevy town
12:15 that is so cool yeah this is a cool
12:17 place but it's a really nice
12:19 the structure is wonderful it's not the
12:21 nicest hotel in the world but that's the
12:24 problem instead of trying to bill it is
12:26 hey it's a kitschy vintage fun hotel
12:30 they're trying to cater to new tourists
12:31 who are don't even really care about it
12:33 right and they just lower the prices and
12:35 go we're affordable so that's their main
12:37 angle so unfortunately you don't attract
12:39 always the best people it gets kind of a
12:41 bad reputation but structurally that's
12:44 actually one of my favorite passing the
12:46 summer sands motel oh yeah that one's
12:48 cool too oh yeah it's a beautiful
12:50 building
12:52 you said this is one of your favorites
12:54 here uh the waikiki village yep
12:57 yeah this is one of the ones that
12:58 actually they took
13:00 efforts to
13:01 update and
13:02 restore and bring back to its original
13:05 glory look at the pool right that is
13:08 cool
13:09 over that little gazebo is the hot tub
13:12 no diving obviously
13:14 but i love the pool
13:16 so would this be from the 60s uh
13:19 actually the original
13:21 i think it should be up here on the the
13:23 historical plaque in the front but i
13:24 think it's actually
13:30 a brick down here it's been there for i
13:30 think 80 years now
13:32 oh 80 years the next one next door uh
13:34 the one up in the north end on the north
13:36 end so we're on the south end now yeah
13:38 we're all about the village this is cool
13:43 what was it
13:43 oh no kidding
13:48 they still use it they were talking
13:48 about trying to put something else in
13:49 here because the other one up north has
13:51 a uh
13:52 has a shuffleboard
13:54 i just love this right so these are
13:55 original i know from theme park stuff
13:57 they put these here usually so people
13:58 won't sit yeah but i just love the decor
14:01 of that
14:03 accents yeah
14:05 i also like how they have the rock work
14:06 down on the sidewalk there yeah these
14:08 used to be bushes back we went to the
14:10 restaurant these were where the bushes
14:12 were yeah there was a couple bushels in
14:13 the front and you have the grade on sign
14:15 obviously yeah i got to say your car
14:17 looks pretty epic just parked right next
14:19 to this thing
14:20 that's why i hang out these places so
14:22 much as i've always taken video
14:25 well yeah this used to be a whole
14:26 hawaiian restaurant that was attached to
14:28 the hotel and then they broke it up into
14:30 like seven or eight rooms or something
14:32 like that
14:39 so the restaurant itself
14:39 became rooms yeah and they just use them
14:41 for individuals you see even the old
14:42 lanterns and stuff hanging out yeah
14:45 that's so neat so this was the
14:46 restaurant but there still was this part
14:48 of the hotel was adjacent to the
14:49 restaurant so that you could go to
14:50 dinner after here and yeah
14:53 not have to drive home
14:55 i have a check-in area this is located
14:57 at 1500 south
15:00 and one of the little slogans is a fun
15:02 hip vibe
15:03 i can see that i would say a lot of
15:05 these places through here this is an
15:06 executive suite up here it has the porch
15:08 that overlooks the beach and everything
15:10 ah it's not
15:16 an executive suite this is located on
15:16 the corner of ocean boulevard and 15th
15:18 avenue south
15:20 it is classic car over there beach is
15:23 just right behind me
15:34 pretty neat
15:34 love all these old hotels
15:37 those walls could talk
15:45 and in the parking lot of the sand
15:45 castle
15:46 is this old sea mist sign which the sea
15:48 mist is not here anymore it says office
15:50 has been moved
15:51 but the sign is still there so drove
15:54 over here parked the car in front of the
15:55 the sea mist
15:57 the thing i like about it is the sign
15:59 itself
16:01 the old neon you can even see some of
16:03 the old neon at the top of the branches
16:04 is a palm tree
16:20 so this side over here broken the neons
16:20 removed but you can see where the holes
16:22 where the neon went in but there's still
16:24 a piece of the
16:25 neon on the other side
16:28 as well as up at the top
16:31 it's like even some holes down here but
16:33 there could have been some as well
16:41 the south seas
16:41 sign says walk-in specials and then
16:43 ocean plaza
16:45 and this is what we passed earlier the
16:46 polly
16:52 such a cool sauna
16:52 the coral sands and this one's gonna be
16:55 so this was gonna be bulldozed soon yeah
16:57 they just condemned it actually very
16:58 recently
17:04 very tiny little spot in the house
17:04 behind it too yeah that was where the
17:06 owner manager was
17:09 that was just informed this is called
17:11 breeze block he taught me something new
17:12 i didn't know i just said the concrete
17:15 design that you can see through the air
17:17 blows through so it's called breeze
17:19 block i never knew that till now
17:22 this whole pool
17:27 just showing this because it's going to
17:27 be torn out
17:29 or a skater could have a field day with
17:31 them and down here on the ground is like
17:33 a silhouette of the lettering of the
17:35 place
17:36 right along
17:37 and someone who worked for the property
17:39 owner walked over asking what we were
17:40 doing and said that this specific
17:42 building so this one might be saved
17:44 yeah that's surprising yeah the sea cove
17:48 might be saved but this one
17:50 is on the chopping block and checking
17:51 out a local coffee stand get myself a
17:54 piping hot beverage from the hi-fi
17:57 coffee
17:58 bar pretty neat very retro a lot of
18:01 vintage stuff in here
18:03 old relics from the 80s and the 90s a
18:06 lot of 80s stuff even maybe even some
18:08 70s stuff stretched along onto the walls
18:11 and an assortment of different coffee
18:13 this is a this is a pretty cool pretty
18:14 cool vibe for a coffee shop the hi-fi
18:18 coffee shop
18:19 here right in the kind of the downtown
18:21 touristy section
18:23 of myrtle beach pretty close to the fun
18:25 wheel like right
18:26 within walking distance of the final in
18:28 fact there is the fun wheel how's your
18:30 coffee very good very good i like that
18:32 place you said when you first moved here
18:34 you thought it was a chain i assumed it
18:36 was like some corporate chain because
18:37 it's so well put together and then i
18:39 asked them one time they're like
18:41 they're attached to the milkshake place
18:43 next door there's a milkshake place next
18:45 door
18:46 the
18:47 gift code gay dolphin there
18:49 as well and
18:50 fun wheel right there and they even had
18:53 a
18:54 porky's had a porky's
18:57 atari
18:58 that's a deep cut i don't know what
19:00 exactly would be required of you to do
19:02 in that game so the old hotel called the
19:04 aquarius
19:06 so basically just turned it into a
19:08 parking lot yeah they tore it down but
19:10 they kept the sign so at least you still
19:12 kind of have some remnant of what used
19:13 to be here okay
19:16 parking lot's pretty pretty available
19:18 right now there's one guy with an rv
19:19 over there walking his dog and then your
19:21 car's parked but that's about it we're
19:22 the only two down here besides this
19:24 garbage truck that's driving by
19:31 the demo crew is making their way in
19:32 original post office right there you see
19:33 the wheel popping up over the top of it
19:36 i like this
19:38 it's an old-timey theater
19:41 it's now a christian facility
19:43 all right we have arrived
19:45 on broadway
19:48 so this you were saying this is
19:49 basically the the downtown back in the
19:51 day yeah back in like the really early
19:54 days like the 40s and 50s this would all
19:56 be lined up with old
19:57 chryslers and everything this would be
19:59 where all the restaurants and bars and
20:01 clubs and stuff were this was the hip
20:03 downtown area
20:11 what is it
20:11 uh it used to be a massage
20:14 a massage parlor
20:16 but i think hippie massage stuff because
20:17 it was like this little crystals and
20:19 stuff like that
20:20 what is it now it's empty now and it's
20:22 it's probably about to be my store
20:30 i've been looking for a place because i
20:30 need vintage meds accessories and all
20:33 kinds of videos oh so do you sell stuff
20:35 yeah i collect basically okay so you'd
20:38 like to have a store on broadway
20:40 oh yeah this is one this is going to be
20:41 the next spot that the city is going to
20:43 be uh turning to for development
20:45 kind of look at this camaro here
20:48 walk down the way a bit
20:50 right there that's the bedroom oh it's
20:52 the same fender you got on yours
20:54 sure is
20:56 this flower shop
20:58 oldest building at oldest oldest store
21:00 in town uh it's one of the oldest
21:03 structures for 80 years lazelle's flower
21:06 shop has been selling flowers
21:08 look at the greenhouse there seem better
21:10 guys i like this tree next to it
21:20 that's awesome
21:20 well you know that
21:22 towns like this in this area were so big
21:24 with the nautical stuff
21:26 is with these live oaks you know most
21:28 times if you're planning uh uh some
21:30 boards for you know uh your house or
21:33 anything
21:34 having a a piece of wood that goes like
21:36 this
21:37 is bad
21:38 but when you're building a boat
21:40 you need pieces that go like that all
21:42 right so this is where most of the
21:45 nautical stuff would come from live oaks
21:46 sorry okay i never realized that that
21:49 makes sense now that you say it yeah
21:50 it's like conway out the way so
21:52 big in that whole timber industry
21:56 just kind of walking around going over
21:58 this bridge here
22:08 you know
22:08 somebody got to be here
22:19 oh thank you
22:19 yeah thanks man
22:21 yeah i've been putting these back and
22:23 stuff on the pins out here
22:37 and he took pictures all that stuff
22:37 outside she got evicted got some ducks
22:40 kind of paddling down the stream there
22:43 but i'm noticing too when i walk over
22:49 to this vintage car wash look at that
22:50 sign right there all rusted out
22:52 that has seen some years still operating
22:55 you get your car wash there oh yeah
22:57 the only place i like that
23:15 so this is a marsh what's the proper
23:15 name of this they call it a swash it's a
23:18 swash marsh a salt marsh the salt water
23:22 instead of fresh water
23:24 so yeah when the tide comes in from the
23:26 ocean this all fills up and it knows
23:29 everything and there'll be crabs walking
23:30 around in here yeah you'll probably see
23:32 them
23:33 that's not a crab that's a squirrel up
23:35 there but there is an animal and the
23:37 tree oh there's another one going up the
23:38 side of the tree
23:39 it's kind of hit around the side there's
23:41 a bunch of couple squirrels
23:50 yeah there's three swashes in myrtle
23:50 beach three of them yeah there's one
23:52 here there's one in midtown
23:54 and there's one up by uh barefoot lane
23:58 i wonder if there's any correlation to a
24:00 pirate swashbuckler i always wondered
24:03 i'm not sure how buckling it would
24:06 maybe it has to do with running aground
24:08 and noticing this hardware store
24:11 well appears to be a hardware store at
24:13 one time
24:14 got the bay door over here on this side
24:16 yeah i think it was an auto part an auto
24:18 parts plus
24:19 that bricks and stretch
24:22 here at 301 what's the name of the road
24:24 again broadway this is broadway this
24:26 mural kind of looks like where we just
24:28 were
24:32 over there in that little section there
24:32 with the the marsh
24:34 there's a motorcycle there too
24:41 the swash looks like there's a little
24:41 apartment up there there's a planter
24:43 outside the window but i walked across
24:45 the road here to times square
24:48 a watch repair
24:50 shop called times square
24:53 i like that
24:55 i don't really wear a watch but
24:57 if i did i need to fix it i come here to
24:58 times square master watch and clock
25:01 repair man cleaning up the city
25:04 so i i'm from out of town i'm telling
25:06 him he was a local he didn't he's never
25:08 been down in the tunnel before
25:12 can we go down there
25:15 have you ever been down there you've
25:16 never been down there okay we're gonna
25:19 go down the tunnel
25:20 all right see you later
25:22 so you've never been down the tunnel
25:23 before
25:24 this is the only tunnel
25:26 i have heard this is the only tunnel in
25:28 town that you can walk underneath is it
25:30 boarded up
25:31 it is boarded up maybe the other side is
25:33 maybe the other side's not
25:35 let me walk down here real quick and
25:36 look that's crazy maybe they're
25:38 renovating it too many squatters down
25:40 here probably they're doing the whole
25:43 hotel up top today probably
25:47 wow even the city worker has never been
25:48 down in the tunnels
25:54 dang i saw some photos online and it
25:54 looked as if it had been repainted
25:56 but the roof of the tunnel the ceiling
25:59 upward was still had that kind of
26:01 old-timey
26:03 like mural style yeah maybe they
26:05 remodeled it it's going to the other
26:07 side
26:10 so in all the years you've been here
26:11 you've never walked underneath there i
26:13 didn't even know about it until fairly
26:14 recently it goes directly under the road
26:16 what's the name of this road uh this is
26:18 ocean boulevard ocean boulevard
26:29 oh so this is the sea mist
26:29 so yeah they must have moved the sea
26:31 mist yeah
26:35 well that's a bummer if we can't walk
26:35 underneath here
26:36 yeah that stinks
26:44 24 hours it goes right underneath the
26:44 road over to the sea mist
26:47 you know because probably during the
26:48 summer it's hard to cross the street
26:58 i was excited about that
26:58 see my shadow down there hello
27:00 now here's a photo of what it looked
27:02 like back in the day
27:03 i believe the sides have been painted up
27:05 but the the ceiling up there would have
27:07 still looked the same
27:09 it'd be pretty cool to walk through
27:10 there hopefully by summer when this area
27:11 picks up
27:13 as far as tourist-wise they reopen it
27:15 and just to give kind of a wide out
27:17 perspective so you have an entrance and
27:19 an exit on both sides of the road
27:21 we tried walking down there into this
27:25 boarded up and across the way on this
27:28 also boarded up so the only
27:30 tunnel underground here in myrtle beach
27:33 is no longer accessible
27:35 sad trombone
27:37 i also just learned something too
27:39 about these little side pools the
27:41 shallow pools you don't see this anymore
27:42 for insurance reasons
27:44 so to find like a you always see hot
27:46 tubs but you'll see a big pool
27:48 and then a small pool for youth over
27:50 here
27:51 you don't see these anymore now they all
27:53 build these with you know into a shallow
27:55 end
27:56 so you taught me all kind of neat stuff
27:57 today i didn't know
28:03 it's got that like second floor
28:03 lobby or whatever
28:05 restaurant at some point yeah
28:07 i love this south seas annex over here
28:09 to the side
28:24 old mini mart right there
28:24 there was a picture of the lady on the
28:25 sign originally
28:27 and i guess they have painted over all
28:29 that
28:46 and you can just hear the three's
28:46 company theme song playing right i feel
28:48 like santa monica
28:54 does kind of give some sand well it's a
28:54 beach community just like santa monica
28:56 california
28:58 this atlantic view right here is a
29:00 lovely spot
29:02 another one of the older ones yeah it's
29:04 got that red show office
29:09 so is this still used as a hotel or as
29:11 an apartment it's basically apartments
29:13 wow look at this truck yeah this guy
29:15 loves jesus the holy ghost healer
29:19 this is the fountain
29:21 if you notice it's not the fountain blue
29:23 b-l-e-a-u
29:29 i guess
29:29 but um
29:30 this place is to be torn down is it real
29:33 let's shut this place down
29:35 as well as the oasis hotel behind it
29:38 this was a monthly say too judging by
29:40 the sign there
29:41 and you know beautiful glazed brick you
29:44 literally can't make that anymore no one
29:46 will make plays brick you can't find it
29:49 right the oasis will also be torn down
29:51 they're going to tear the oasis down
29:53 yeah this is all going
29:54 data city bought this for like 15
29:56 million bucks just last week a couple
29:58 weeks ago
30:00 so even this building's going to be torn
30:01 down
30:05 crate myrtle over here this is one of
30:07 the oldest hotels that we have in town
30:11 the largest
30:12 uh luxury resort hotel in uh in the
30:15 entire south
30:16 the building still stands no this is it
30:18 getting demolished
30:19 getting down getting to my there's the
30:21 photo of it getting demolished yeah
30:27 oh my gosh
30:27 look at that
30:28 so we have arrived at the shop
30:32 of jack thompson you said mr myrtle
30:34 beach
30:36 and then this broadway theater they're
30:38 going to be remodeling it and putting it
30:39 back they're actually going to open a
30:41 theater again i didn't want to show too
30:42 much in there obviously
30:44 a lot of that artwork
30:46 sells in the book but showed a couple
30:48 couple a couple photos it does have a
30:50 few books for sale
30:52 jack thompson made a book and it's for
30:53 sale inside the shop with a lot of the
30:56 vintage stuff from around myrtle beach
30:58 but it used to be city law
31:00 that you had to wear a bathing suit for
31:02 the festival oh so if you didn't wear a
31:04 bathing suit they'd put you in the sun
31:06 fun jail
31:07 and there's like famous pictures
31:09 actually of this cop right here he's
31:11 wearing a bathing suit all the cops are
31:12 wearing bathing suits in full uniform
31:15 with short saw no kidding oh here's the
31:17 broadway cafe yeah
31:19 so this over on broadway um that's
31:21 probably right over here actually
31:23 because this connects to broadway okay
31:25 this is a very unique building this is
31:27 the cozy corner and this was the
31:29 wonderbar
31:36 the only basement in myrtle beach
31:36 the wonder bar can we go down there
31:42 hey how you doing
31:42 hey
31:43 very nice
31:57 is the basement bar still down there i
31:57 can hear you are you guys opening
32:08 yeah you never see basements around here
32:08 you want to come down
32:10 thank you
32:12 we really appreciate it be careful
32:14 we will there's nobody coming this is
32:15 the first one i see it yeah yeah he was
32:18 telling me the story this used to be
32:19 called the wonder bar yeah
32:22 oh look at the steps
32:25 this still have the wonderbar stuff on
32:27 oh the painting
32:30 look at this just a little makeup that
32:32 way whoever rented to fix it you know
32:34 this is great yeah
32:36 yeah it's got two bathrooms in the back
32:39 the space little bar
32:41 i love it my buddies they remodeled a
32:43 lot of this back in the day when they
32:44 were originally going to do something
32:46 nothing ever happened
32:47 one of the only basements in all of
32:49 myrtle beach
32:50 so you got the tunnel that was closed
32:52 off then there's also this basement he
32:53 was telling me about
32:54 that's so neat
32:59 yeah thanks for letting us look around
32:59 all right
33:00 appreciate it
33:03 thank you so much
33:23 tile work this is so awesome it's so
33:24 funny you were talking in the car off
33:25 camera about this place and now we were
33:27 able to walk in there
33:30 sometimes things just work out
33:34 yeah they wouldn't have done anything
33:35 like that recently this is all from like
33:37 the 30s and 40s
33:39 oh this is the old broadway theater
33:40 there's that photo
33:42 yeah they're going to put like a
33:44 performance theater in here because we
33:46 have a performance school too
33:51 you can see where the marquee probably
33:51 used to stick out there
33:52 look at these doors
33:55 wow look at this
33:57 look at the computer look at this old
33:58 doorbell
34:00 even says doorbell
34:02 they got like a
34:04 zenith laptop
34:10 look at that that was a club this is a
34:12 great so this is broadway well this i
34:15 think actually it might be it whips and
34:17 turns into broadway down there either
34:19 way just turns into it it must be i
34:21 guess because this was the broadway
34:22 theater
34:24 i love it
34:26 okay they're going to be pulling all
34:27 this new facade off
34:29 restoring it back to the original brick
34:31 because you can see it's all just
34:32 plastered on top of the brick yeah like
34:34 and you can even see
34:42 you know it's like you can touch the
34:42 original facade it's right there
34:45 that's all gonna be coming
34:52 no longer an active pizza place but this
34:52 is a very
34:56 looking structure walking up to the
34:58 train depot
35:00 still got the little cross switch here
35:07 turn
35:07 no longer moves
35:13 trains still run through here no we
35:13 don't have any trains around no trance
35:23 but all this is original that's the
35:23 original porcelain sign the myrtle beach
35:25 that you saw in those photos
35:27 from the 30s and 40s
35:34 they just renovated this not that long
35:34 ago it's pretty expensive but
35:37 you can um rent it too they have uh for
35:40 events yeah
35:41 they even have one of the cars set up
35:43 for office meetings and stuff like that
35:50 yeah original sign up there
35:50 that's great
35:51 and if you are in town you can just uh
35:53 you contact them don't send someone over
35:56 let you in they will nice
36:04 look out for train this is super vintage
36:09 wow look at this thing it's bolted in
36:13 the ground for good reason
36:14 yes that is a relic
36:18 got the old tracks down there
36:21 see the fun wheel off and it's called
36:23 the fun wheel right uh sky wheel
36:25 skywheel
36:30 skyway
36:30 and one of the cars though
36:38 see we got the little
36:38 you can hear the ac's on right
36:41 the city planters will meet inside these
36:43 trains
36:45 well especially this one over here
36:47 they have a little office area inside
36:53 you see i mean it's a really nice area
36:53 you can do nice little events here
36:55 people get married here that's great
37:01 old train station and we've about
37:01 completed the retro tour
37:04 in fact here's jack thompson's old
37:05 studio
37:08 i saw a lot of retro goodness
37:11 with the retro myrtle beach guy one and
37:14 only
37:16 there's no other
37:17 retro myrtle beach guy near the one and
37:20 mr fish seafood grill he misses fish mrs
37:24 fish i don't even know he misses fish
37:25 there was a contentious
37:27 divorce okay
37:30 mr fishes uptown are you serious
37:33 no way
37:34 they divided and i believe where we
37:36 started here at city hall is a good
37:38 enough to place to end this episode as
37:41 any
37:41 a lengthy fun time around myrtle beach
37:46 weather vane
37:51 i always want to say maine
37:51 but maine is like
37:53 mane and tail for a horse
37:55 well you'll have to come back when it's
37:56 actually nice i'll come back one summer
37:59 when everything's open but i got a nice
38:01 little tour that's a car show we'll do
38:03 the whole thing yeah
38:04 all right i'll see you the next video
38:05 the vlog
38:07 is over
