0:02 today's adventure begins here in New
0:02 York City as the recording of this
0:04 Monday
0:06 May 15
0:07 2023 going under the glitter and
0:10 Polished Nail and Spa
0:13 to John's coffee shop American flag in
0:17 the window Tampa Jay is in the
0:19 reflection let's get some John's coffee
0:21 get some coffee
0:24 coffee you talking like a Boston
0:26 Bostonian I've been here too long no I
0:29 was trying to do a New York Times New
0:30 York but I'm not that good at it welcome
0:31 everyone
0:33 woo here
0:34 I noticed they did not put the cardboard
0:37 sleeve around it and it is definitely
0:40 piping hot very piping hot it's burning
0:43 my head today we're gonna very warm
0:45 today we're gonna take the subway over
0:47 to an area you are familiar with Central
0:49 Park oh Central Park I am going to go
0:52 buy some John Lennon spots quite a few
0:54 John Lennon spots and then just kind of
0:56 see where the I've always wanted to go
0:58 to Strawberry field the Imagine on the
1:00 ground mural in Central Park and the
1:02 Dakota and then possibly a few other
1:05 things maybe that you have in mind we're
1:06 just gonna have a mishmash experience a
1:08 little sightseeing so apart beautiful a
1:11 lot of iconic spots who knows what we're
1:13 going to see along the way there's all
1:15 kinds of things to see my entire life
1:17 well probably the last 30 years of my
1:19 life I've always wanted to go
1:21 to where John Lennon had his last last
1:24 moments big Beatles fan I'm a big
1:28 Beatles fan myself I visited spots
1:30 before but it's been a few years I'm
1:32 anxious to see what what
1:38 maybe you could share some of your
1:38 experiences there before and I can have
1:40 like kind of a somber moment and we'll
1:42 have some good moments too I Can Only
1:43 Imagine
1:45 well done inviting you to join me and
1:47 Tampa
1:49 I like what you did there with the I can
1:51 only imagine that's another song that's
1:53 a different song though you know like
1:54 there's there is a song a Christian
1:56 artist in a song called I can only
1:57 imagine and it ended up becoming
2:01 a big top 40 hit yeah which is rare
2:05 which is rare for a Christian artist to
2:07 like have a
2:09 yeah I know that's all very well doing
2:11 the subway we've been doing some
2:13 Rideshare stuff I did a taxi from the
2:15 airport trying to do different modes of
2:16 transportation today some subwayage
2:18 celebrating 110 years of Grand Central
2:23 as stated here there's some copies of
2:25 the New Yorker and the Grand Central on
2:28 the New Yorker like this vintage old
2:30 letter box right here
2:32 so we got to do a little more research
2:34 on which of the trains we need to take
2:36 so most of the trains up here go far out
2:45 I do have an affinity for vintage clocks
2:45 like this the Jay is inquiring over here
2:49 at the Metro North train information
2:51 which way we need to go for being very
2:54 helpful
3:00 good not to get on the wrong train
3:00 I can never not be excited about showing
3:02 this building
3:03 it's incredible okay so the gentleman
3:06 gave us a map said that we had to go up
3:08 four blocks to another station that way
3:10 we'll have to transfer that way we don't
3:12 have to transfer we're gonna go to Ryan
3:13 Park and get on the train do that direct
3:15 route you know a lot a lot of New
3:18 Yorkers get a kind of a negative
3:19 connotation but I gotta say I've well we
3:22 run into a lot of really nice people in
3:24 the city I always say that every time I
3:25 talk yeah
3:26 yeah you know that stereotype needs to
3:29 be broken I mean there's probably some
3:31 a-holes yeah but there's a-holes
3:33 everywhere evidently this is also known
3:35 as Pershing Square and one thing there
3:38 is no lack of through here are taxis
3:41 taxis Ubers lifts ride shares Subways
3:45 trains
3:47 a plethora of Transportation no need for
3:50 a car in the city in fact I didn't even
3:52 rent one I usually have a big car rental
3:54 guy
3:55 no that's a that's a that's a big No-No
3:57 don't do that yeah we're gonna go down
3:58 here I love the vibe of the subway
4:01 it just flashed back to so many like 80s
4:03 movies think about think about Subways
4:06 on film it never ends well entering
4:09 through
4:21 the B train
4:27 talking to me
4:27 you talking to me
4:30 getting off at 59th Street
4:47 right there
4:49 Columbus Circle
4:51 welcome to Columbus Circle I'm thinking
4:54 of the state tough marshmallow baby is
4:56 that spuds McKinnon oh never mind I
4:57 thought that was like a Spuds MacKenzie
4:59 type of dog but it's not
5:04 where's Rick Moranis
5:04 when you need them they are taking lawn
5:07 maintenance to a whole other level
5:09 got the lawn tractor over there
5:12 turn this way you get a really good view
5:15 isn't that awesome
5:17 of the skyline partial Skyline here the
5:20 Essex House
5:23 man this is awesome
5:24 okay wait for it
5:27 I don't know if they call these the
5:28 Columbus rocks
5:46 pretty epic view there's actually a lot
5:46 of footage of John and Yoko in the park
5:49 walking around a lot of video footage
5:51 they were always in this bar it lives
5:53 right across the street from it yeah
5:55 I'm also really glad this exists in the
5:57 city because there is no square footage
5:59 anywhere except Central Park
6:07 I mean it's just amazing the value of
6:07 this land to a developer would be
6:09 astronomical you could build you could
6:12 have 100 000 people just living in this
6:14 one section right here and this is only
6:16 one 100th of Central Park it's all along
6:19 the Central Park
6:21 truly is without this here the air would
6:23 be pretty dirty this is all these trees
6:25 this is like a just a giant filter to
6:27 the concrete jungle I believe it yeah
6:30 a little sculpture here someone with a
6:32 falcon or an eagle or a bird of some
6:35 sort I think it says the Falcon the
6:37 Falcon oh yeah it does say the Falcon on
6:38 it
6:55 no honking over here no Sirens over in
6:55 here just birds chirping up in the trees
6:57 I like it
6:58 say it there it's so beautiful
7:09 some mind game Vibes in there of course
7:09 Johnny Yoko used to walk around in there
7:11 quite a bit they also filmed the video
7:13 for mind games I love John Lennon solo
7:15 stuff too I love the Beatles but later
7:16 in my life I started really appreciating
7:18 John solo stuff there he is
7:21 Abraham Lincoln here
7:30 I have arrived to a place that I have
7:30 wanted to come
7:31 for a long time to pay my respects
7:34 I went through a big phase
7:37 probably for a good solid three years I
7:40 mean I've liked the Beatles my dad liked
7:41 the Beatles it was his favorite band
7:42 growing up in fact he picked up the
7:44 guitar
7:45 because he loved the Beatles
7:48 And I always remember him talking about
7:51 The Fab Four
7:54 Me growing up
7:55 and then later in life I really started
7:57 to come into my L with my Beetle fandom
8:01 this is the Dakota this is where John
8:03 and Yoko Ono lived
8:06 and John would frequent Central Park
8:08 which is located right over here he
8:11 would meet up with people take photos
8:13 plenty of videos of him wandering around
8:15 over in there and they lived here
8:23 until his last moments
8:23 December 8th 1980.
8:26 it's when the event happened it was a
8:28 very eventful day
8:35 in fact there was a photo shoot by
8:35 for Rolling Stone it was the front cover
8:36 of Rolling Stone for Rolling Stone the
8:38 cover of Rolling Stone with Yoko laying
8:40 on the ground John in the nude in the
8:43 naked laying on top of her of course
8:45 concealed where you really couldn't see
8:47 anything
8:48 you know so it's a PG photo shoot and
8:50 originally Rolling Stone knife from what
8:52 I heard didn't want Yoko in it but John
8:54 said no I'm not gonna I'm not gonna be
8:56 on the cover Rolling Stone without my
8:57 wife so that's how that happened those
8:59 photos were taken on the same day that
9:02 Mark David Chapman showed up here twice
9:04 two times the Chapman showed up earlier
9:07 that day December 8 1980 a day that will
9:10 kind of live on an infamy but basically
9:12 as the story goes as I've always heard
9:14 it over the years as Chapman showed up
9:16 earlier that day
9:18 in the early evening got a photo taken
9:21 by a guy named Paul gorish I believe is
9:23 what his name was
9:24 and he was an acquaintance of Linens who
9:26 would take photos always in front of the
9:29 Dakota
9:31 and he took a bunch of photos in fact
9:32 the photo is used on the single for the
9:35 album from his buddy Paul not McCartney
9:37 but Paul gorish of him walking right out
9:40 of here on watching the wheels
9:43 the single which is my favorites my
9:45 favorite of John Lennon's solo
9:48 yeah I just I really relate to that song
9:51 so Paul was here taking a photo of John
9:54 and Yoko walking out getting into the
9:55 air getting into their car right here
9:58 they went to the studio which the studio
10:00 where they recorded
10:02 Double Fantasy which is where
10:05 David Chapman was over here in the
10:07 standing getting an autograph the last
10:08 photo one of the last photos maybe the
10:10 last photo of Lenin still living
10:13 with Paul gorosh over here taking a
10:15 photo of Lennon
10:17 with Chapman right there holding the
10:20 Double Fantasy album getting you getting
10:22 Goosebumps yeah oh you were saying it
10:25 I've been here a couple times before
10:26 it's just always so heavy man yeah it's
10:30 pretty sad
10:35 so then they got in the limo they went
10:35 off they went over to the studio which
10:37 I'm gonna try to figure out where that
10:38 was where's Double Fantasy already been
10:40 recorded but went over the studio came
10:42 back around 10 50 I believe it was went
10:45 in Chapman was here waiting and uh
10:48 yeah the the Restless kind of History
10:51 and this little this little sideway here
10:53 this is the photo from the watching the
10:55 wheels single final single that Paul
10:58 gorish took so he's basically standing
11:00 where we are and doorman is now but it
11:03 still looks the same and here's a photo
11:04 with John's acquaintance his buddy I
11:07 don't know if they were friends but they
11:08 were definitely acquaintances who took
11:09 the last photo and the photo with
11:12 Chapman
11:13 not sure if this this this uh was on the
11:17 same day that's probably that might have
11:18 been the same day as Paula Boris and
11:19 then in here look how happy this doorman
11:21 is here the only the only people that
11:24 had any clue this was going to go down
11:26 was Chapman who
11:28 yeah he just he had kind of pre-arranged
11:30 in his mind that was going to happen
11:31 this is not Chapman as far as I know
11:33 like that is Paul gorish because you'll
11:36 notice Chapman did not have a mustache
11:38 warsh did but this is the photo so this
11:41 is right in front of that Archway so
11:43 this is John Lennon signing the the
11:45 album for Double Fantasy
11:47 was always kind to the fans that would
11:49 show up here in fact when he showed up
11:50 later that night and Chapman
11:52 you know it was
11:54 did his uh
11:56 horrific deed
12:03 linen could have easily just pulled in
12:03 the archway but he didn't he wanted to
12:04 get out and sign some autographs and get
12:06 some photos with those who those who
12:08 liked him so he could have easily
12:09 protected himself but he didn't so this
12:11 is this is one of the last moments
12:14 here here's another photo yoko's on the
12:16 other side of John there
12:19 still see the angle of that building
12:21 still looks the same now the photos I'm
12:23 showing did not happen at 10 50 p.m that
12:26 night when linen showed back up would
12:28 have got out of his car
12:29 walked in
12:31 and Chapman was over there waiting he
12:34 had seen him earlier earlier that day
12:37 and as he was walking I said the cars
12:39 the limos could have just pulled right
12:40 inside of here would have been no big
12:42 deal for the doorman to just opened up
12:44 they could have gone in protected and
12:46 everything
12:48 I believe it was five
12:49 into the back of linen so not even in
12:53 the front Linden was walking away
12:55 and you know pretty horrible
12:58 definitely horrible I think Chapman's
13:01 still still in jail to this day pretty
13:03 cowardly to shoot some shoots on the
13:05 back and of course once the news broke
13:07 it was just worldwide
13:09 I mean just a
13:11 I mean I don't know what it was like
13:12 when Robin Williams died in my
13:13 generation and I would imagine it
13:15 probably would have been kind of about
13:17 the same Vibe for a lot of people
13:18 definitely cried a lot with Robert
13:20 Williams passed away and I would imagine
13:22 a lot of Tears were shed
13:24 foreign
13:25 here's another photo by gorish
13:29 across the way with Leonard
13:39 what I was kind of reading that gorish
13:39 was kind of the Dakota linen
13:41 photographer like John and Yoko got to
13:45 know him by name we're very friendly
13:46 with them they we definitely liked
13:48 having him take him take photos and once
13:50 the news broke a shrine immediately
13:53 popped up in front of us you can see the
13:55 little stanchions here you can see all
13:57 the flowers that were left right in
14:00 front of there you see the
14:02 lanterns there and all that still looks
14:04 the same
14:06 I mean this is exactly it's very eerie
14:08 Eerie how precisive and yet another
14:11 photo here that the Cruisers out front
14:13 blocking all the people
14:27 taking in his prime you gotta wonder if
14:27 he would if he had lived another few
14:30 more decades what kind of songs what
14:32 kind of theories what kind of opinions
14:35 what would have happened to John Lennon
14:38 so here's a couple of artistic
14:40 renderings of kind of what went down so
14:42 you could see Lenin walking away in the
14:44 back there
14:45 Chapman is the first there Yoko I
14:47 believe probably up towards the top
14:49 and then here's even more detailed kind
14:53 of given the info here so the car was
14:56 parked at the curbside right in front
14:58 next to the century post
15:01 72nd Street
15:03 in the pass way to Dakota Courtyard this
15:07 States
15:13 car
15:13 right in front
15:14 so the car was not off where that other
15:16 car is the car was like right here
15:29 would have happened right there
15:29 right basically where the gate is going
15:32 into the different brickwork the
15:34 concrete onto the blocks and kind of in
15:37 that general area there
15:44 we're just saying it's probably the most
15:44 uh
15:45 most photographed doorman of all time I
15:47 was saying yeah these guys probably in a
15:49 lot of videos and photos I would imagine
15:51 so there's even been standing here
15:52 there's probably been 30 people stop by
15:55 yeah and there's always a doorman there
15:57 no one's ever not on shift all right I
16:00 was looking online I found a few photos
16:01 there's one of Yoko out on the kind of
16:03 the not the balcony but with the door
16:05 opened and it's faced over into the park
16:08 so guessing either probably this one or
16:11 that one there with the little Veranda
16:14 there and the wrought iron around the
16:16 side
16:18 probably that one but it was it was
16:20 something on this side right here a
16:23 magnificent view of Central Park and
16:25 someone has placed a John Lennon sticker
16:27 right here too
16:34 there's also a photo of John and Yoko
16:34 right here on this very street corner
16:45 pretty impressive building
16:50 the spot I wanted to come to for a long
16:50 time
16:55 the place in Central Park called
16:55 Strawberry Fields
16:57 it's just in the same area in fact it is
17:00 very close to here it's just within very
17:01 short walking distance right into the
17:03 park itself I believe in the mid 80s
17:05 they did this in honor of John and they
17:08 placed the Str they named it Strawberry
17:10 Fields in honor of him and they have the
17:12 whole setup and they have the Imagine uh
17:14 you know template not a mural Where They
17:16 Call It Whatever whatever they would
17:17 want to call that the tiling and whatnot
17:18 and where the Mosaic is is within eye
17:21 view
17:22 of the Dakota right there look at that
17:26 that's how close it is
17:28 after the occurrence or after the event
17:31 took place
17:33 John Lennon was taken over to the
17:34 Roosevelt Hospital which is one mile
17:36 away it is now
17:38 Sinai West Memorial
17:41 one mile that direction now while we
17:44 were back there at the little Memorial
17:47 there was a guy playing guitar he
17:48 started playing Strawberry Fields
17:50 started to get a little choked up yeah
17:52 me too man that's heavy it's hard to get
17:54 a little chilly man just like John would
17:55 have wanted it yeah I always think about
17:58 it from a doctor or a nurse's
18:00 perspective
18:02 you know because yeah the Beatles were
18:04 the biggest
18:05 biggest group in the world like who
18:07 didn't know
18:09 John Lennon when they're brought in
18:10 famous people are brought in
18:17 they go about their job and they take
18:17 care of their business
18:19 but they must have to think wow this is
18:21 this is who I have this is it this is
18:23 the spot see this is the original
18:25 building here
18:27 this whole area you can even see how
18:29 dated it is almost looks like something
18:31 from that generation
18:33 to be the the newer building up top here
18:40 do not know what room it was
18:42 and obviously we're not going to go in
18:43 film inside but I wanted to show the
18:46 exterior made it down into the Hell's
18:48 Kitchen District corner of West 48th and
18:51 9th Ave down this way used to be the old
18:55 Studio where Yoko and John collaborated
18:58 on Double Fantasy
19:00 right down here which is the album that
19:02 Chapman got signed John signed for Mark
19:06 David
19:07 before everything else kind of
19:10 culminated in that horrible moment
19:13 so it was one of these so this is 353
19:15 West 48th let's see if I can match up a
19:18 photo there used to be an awning
19:21 okay it probably was right here see if
19:25 this brick wall looks the same
19:27 no placard no info of any time no
19:31 historical significance documented other
19:33 than the the 353 up top
19:37 I believe was on the top floor okay
19:39 here's a photo so there was an awning
19:41 it's like the entrance has changed a
19:43 little bit but if you look over here
19:44 there's these very interesting gray
19:46 boxes that are still there they have
19:48 removed the metal grates and whatnot and
19:50 place mirrors there so they would have
19:52 basically walk in right below where the
19:54 353 is and there's an elevator when you
19:57 look inside and I did confirm that it
19:59 was on the sixth floor
20:01 where they recorded the album double
20:02 fantasy and just just a weird sad tie-in
20:06 to Chapman now also there used to be a
20:10 step up right here now there's like a
20:11 little slanted area so there's no step
20:13 leading into it but definitely see those
20:15 gray squares are still there the
20:18 elevator would lead from floor one
20:20 two three four five and six being the
20:24 very very top floor right up there and
20:26 there's a rumor that Yoko ended up
20:28 utilizing that for other recordings but
20:31 it was a different company it wasn't hit
20:32 hit Central or hit Studios
20:35 that was the same but even though she
20:37 ended up utilizing the same Studio space
20:39 and another Studio moved in and she
20:40 later later in life utilizes okay very
20:44 interesting I just mentioning the other
20:45 place called Seer sound moved in like
20:48 two decades after
20:50 the Hit Factory did and they're still in
20:53 there offices look at this offices sixth
20:56 floor
21:00 sear sound right there
21:02 that is wild
21:04 I swear they would have walked in
21:12 yeah so it was right in there on the
21:12 sixth floor with a recorded
21:14 tracks for that album just like starting
21:16 over on that
21:18 beautiful boy which he dedicated to his
21:20 son
21:21 and watching the wheels very interesting
21:23 tie-in because of the Chapman tie-in I
21:25 was mentioning but also in the songs
21:27 that were recorded up there for watching
21:30 the wheels
21:35 the photo was taken and used for the the
21:35 single
21:37 from devil fantasy that was recorded in
21:39 here over at the Dakota so just kind of
21:42 some weird tie-ins that just kind of all
21:43 connects with the subject
21:45 subject matter man
21:48 okay have wandered over here to the
21:51 first spot that John ayoko
21:54 moved to in August of 1971 they lived in
21:57 the Saint Regis
21:59 hotel in fact there's an interview
22:02 there's not a lot of photos
22:04 of them here but there is an interview
22:05 that John did of course we're asking
22:08 about the breakup of The Beatles the
22:09 court case and all that
22:11 pretty descriptive interview of his you
22:14 know unhappiness with how a lot of it is
22:16 happening and couldn't just just a quick
22:20 search I couldn't find what room number
22:21 it was or anything it probably
22:23 would be allowed to get up to it either
22:25 way but I kind of wanted to throw this
22:26 in as well just because when you're out
22:29 to the breakup of The Beatles and all
22:30 that and he just kind of wanted to get
22:32 to you know do some different things
22:34 came to New York
22:36 Yoko before they got the house they
22:37 lived in one other house which is in
22:40 French Village before going over to the
22:44 final place that he ever lived but first
22:46 it was over here of the Saint Regis
22:56 John and yoka Yoko and John and I
22:56 believe Yoko met him
22:58 in New York
23:00 remember right and from this area oh
23:02 well pretty much all this area there are
23:04 a lot of really ornate beautiful
23:06 churches that are down here look at this
23:10 one it's kind of silhouetted out with a
23:11 little
23:12 Sunburst against the window
23:15 I'm gonna go over to a spot that's not
23:18 beetles or living related but Midnight
23:20 Cowboy yeah I'm walking here spot this
23:23 is going to be kind of tough to match up
23:24 because the scene is really zoomed in
23:26 for Midnight Cowboy
23:28 okay if you type in 1414 6th Ave
23:31 Manhattan blue dots a little office
23:34 there's big buildings around but you can
23:36 see up here down sixth so here's Central
23:38 Park up there 14-14
23:42 is the building I'm standing right in
23:45 front which now has ivy around it it's
23:47 more of an upscale restaurant
23:49 but they were walking right down here
23:51 down the sidewalk
23:58 long zoomed in shot and they're walking
23:58 that direction
24:00 Central Park is over there there's a
24:02 taxi right there so basically if I was
24:05 to walk across here so I'm just doing
24:08 this if I was to slam my hand down on
24:10 that cab that's the exact spot
24:12 Dustin Hoffman did and yelled out
24:16 I'm walking here I'm walking here right
24:20 there
24:21 coming right down here super zoom it's
24:23 almost like they had the camera probably
24:25 all the way down there with an
24:26 incredible lens zoomed in
24:29 for that now iconic ad-lib it wasn't
24:32 even expected as the rumor goes they had
24:35 a barricade down that direction and the
24:38 taxi driver didn't want to wait because
24:40 they're so annoyed with the filming
24:41 going on in New York it went through the
24:43 barricade went around it and ruined the
24:45 very very long
24:47 you know the long shot that was
24:48 happening so taxi comes by
24:52 goes right through here right about
24:53 where that gray van is Dustin Hoffman
24:56 walks across slams his head down on the
24:57 thing and slams his hand out on the
24:59 thing does the ad-lib yelling he really
25:01 was upset and they kept it in hey I'm
25:05 walking in I'm walking here right there
25:08 you can go put your hands down on the
25:10 the taxi right here yeah it was right
25:12 here and when you watch the clip in the
25:13 movie the camera is a little farther
25:15 back and zoomed in you can't see the
25:17 14-14 or the Spiros
25:19 floral shop but evidently there was a
25:22 photographer on the scene so the camera
25:24 was like just a little bit farther over
25:25 to the right it zoomed way in and they
25:28 thankfully they were able to get this
25:29 address this is the proof that this is
25:31 this is where this happened which you
25:32 know that restaurant across the way
25:33 1414.
25:35 1414 6th Ave
25:37 corner of West 58th all right we're
25:40 gonna get back on the subway
25:42 and head
25:44 South
25:46 other area
25:48 down
25:50 Down Columbus Circle station down the
25:52 hill in elsewhere
26:41 one downtown
26:41 got the sun glistening upon the Water
26:45 in fact the wake is so heavy
26:47 but this dock is like kind of banging
26:50 around over here
26:52 but off in the distance the Statue of
26:54 Liberty I've never been onto the island
26:57 or up in the Statue of Liberty that is
26:59 on my to-do list one day I don't know if
27:01 I will be able to do it on this
27:03 New York trip but I'll be I'm gonna
27:06 definitely be back to New York this is
27:07 not my last day I'm still here for a
27:08 couple more days but
27:10 got other things uh on the list
27:13 but I've really enjoyed the last few
27:16 days that I've been here
27:18 and we'll be coming back on a very
27:20 regular basis but across the way
27:22 a very important Landmark for many many
27:25 reasons but there's a little bit of a
27:27 tie-in
27:28 with this episode also
27:32 a photo of John Lennon in front of that
27:34 one of the most famous photos of him at
27:36 New York to be honest now it's going to
27:38 get a little grainy and blurry when I
27:40 zoom in and I am zooming in from the
27:49 Lady Liberty
27:49 right over there
28:13 that dock is really just
28:13 bolted up and down up against the side
28:15 they're making a lot of racket
28:17 here's the photo I'm talking about
28:20 given the peace sign
28:22 in front of Lady Liberty
28:32 I just I guess you could call this dusk
28:33 I've covered some serious ground today
28:34 and didn't think I was going to make it
28:36 over here but we've been walking a lot
28:38 we've been going commuting around the
28:39 town and just decided you know what I
28:42 should head over to bank Street which in
28:44 October of 71.
28:47 Johnny Yoko moved out of that hotel I
28:49 showed a little bit earlier over near
28:51 the hey I'm walking there I'm walking
28:54 here that area and moved over to bank
28:56 Street into their first New York home
28:58 that is right down here a very modest
29:01 accommodations for one of the lead
29:04 singers in the biggest rock groups of
29:06 all time I think he probably could have
29:07 afforded a little more but he lived in a
29:10 little little walk up over here
29:12 near Greenwich Village
29:15 so it's this one right here it's it's
29:16 this kind of
29:19 this whitish huge building wow this was
29:23 where they lived probably not going to
29:25 be a plaque of any type
29:27 on the front of it
29:29 so there is a basement down here
29:31 it says not an entry so there's one
29:34 there's like a basement floor then
29:36 there's this floor I guess it'd be a
29:38 four-story building actually someone
29:39 lives up there the window is open there
29:41 are photos this is crazy
29:43 of them in the front there's like some
29:45 photos of them in the bed up there
29:49 and evidently they probably I guess this
29:51 is probably the entrance that you would
29:52 have gone in here
29:54 and headed up to the top
29:56 the one thing
29:59 the neighbor just one of the people on
30:01 the went came by and said he knew what
30:03 it was but Jay was just noticing this
30:05 thing might be on the on the destruction
30:08 block here put out the destruction block
30:11 but it might be on the chopping block if
30:13 you will the wrecking ball might be
30:15 coming in you know just a figure of
30:17 speech
30:18 this might end up yeah they've already
30:20 got the permits
30:22 wow look at this construction area no
30:26 one lives here
30:28 okay that's a bummer yeah
30:31 wow so this thing might be gone soon
30:36 really soon
30:41 I'm glad I came over here yeah
30:41 so their loft apartment it was the top
30:44 floor of the building I just showed
30:45 that's going to be torn down
30:47 it's like a baby even condemned
30:50 either way
30:51 there were three there's three sets of
30:53 Windows two sets of Windows you can see
30:55 in this photo where they're watching TV
30:56 and the other set would be behind the
30:59 television
31:00 right there I'm not sure who took this
31:01 photo
31:03 but there is a photo I mean yeah people
31:05 kind of follow them around they were
31:06 friends with them would take photos of
31:07 them from magazines and whatnot
31:10 but this photo is inside that building
31:13 in fact it looks like the windows are
31:14 the same it has the
31:16 nice I don't know almost they may have
31:19 changed out the windows
31:21 yeah maybe they changed the blocks out
31:23 on them
31:25 tough to tell
31:26 yeah probably so because those have two
31:30 sets of three yeah but this just has the
31:32 three so evidently they opened up the
31:34 window probably just air it out there's
31:36 no one living in there at the moment but
31:39 you could picture them just walking out
31:40 of that basement area there probably
31:42 wasn't even an elevator and they're just
31:44 stairs you probably had to do a walk-on
31:46 just
31:50 John Lennon
31:50 biggest music star in the world not
31:54 taking an elevator up to his fourth
31:56 floor apartment right up there
31:59 which is you know just it's kind of hard
32:01 to wrap your head around that
32:14 and the reason he moved out is a former
32:14 tenant that lived on one of the other
32:16 levels maybe even the one that was in
32:18 where his apartment was returned I
32:21 evidently had some accomplices with him
32:23 and robbed him of some possessions his
32:26 address book the television that was
32:28 shown in that picture that they were
32:30 watching up there he was really
32:31 disappointed that they stole his TV and
32:33 his address book it's a whole back story
32:36 on the address book
32:38 as well we got the address book back
32:39 because he kind of put out some some
32:42 threats out there that he was going to
32:44 send some people to find it so whoever
32:47 took the address book returned it and
32:49 then he said you know what this place is
32:51 not safe I'm going to move to the Dakota
32:53 and even though a lot more secure
32:56 we all know how that ended
32:58 but that could have happened here too
33:08 if you would just walk by here and think
33:08 oh this would be like where maybe John
33:11 Lennon grew up this was like before he
33:13 got famous no he was the most famous
33:15 person you could imagine in here right
33:19 up there this is like my old Saint Cloud
33:21 apartment you know like but I mean
33:23 probably a little more money to rent now
33:24 but yeah it's just like a little it's
33:26 just a loft yeah it's so practical yeah
33:30 it's amazing
33:31 all that was that got him to go
33:34 somewhere more expensive was for safety
33:36 yeah
33:37 yeah it's interesting in a Chapman's
33:40 been interviewed on why he did it and
33:41 all that and the I believe I might be
33:43 paraphrasing but it was said that he
33:46 didn't like how John Lennon was uh quote
33:48 unquote hypocrite when it came so I'm
33:49 paraphrasing so I don't know why I'm
33:51 quote unquoting it but it didn't like
33:53 how he was a hypocrite when it came to
33:54 his money he tried to like kind of have
33:56 this this attitude where he wasn't all
33:58 about that but this kind of proves that
34:00 yeah he was pretty he was a pretty
34:02 modest guy you can hear it in his music
34:04 yeah you could even say
34:06 there's a Working Class Hero A working
34:08 class hero is something to be
34:11 I didn't know you're wearing the button
34:13 Give Peace a chance yeah I've had the
34:15 I've had the button on the hold the
34:16 whole time
34:17 there you go
34:26 yeah it's gutted out I'm looking inside
34:26 they have already have the construction
34:27 lights Jay also noticed there's the
34:29 staircase so like I said no elevator
34:31 they would have walked in this door
34:34 and then walked up those very stairs to
34:37 the next set of stairs
34:38 up to their fourth floor Loft
34:41 up to the next one oh you know what
34:43 here's interesting this
34:46 so okay so you got one floor two floor
34:49 maybe those two windows
34:51 are those windows that are in that photo
34:54 and maybe each apartment only had yeah
34:57 this is the stairwell that is a
35:00 possibility it's more than we thought I
35:01 mean it's tough to say for sure but
35:12 so those could be the exact two windows
35:12 that are in that photo with the bed
35:14 behind there and the TV
35:27 upstairs and this leads to the second
35:27 third and fourth yeah so one apartment
35:29 two apartments there's four apartments
35:31 in here
35:32 and it was just two windows
35:35 incredible
35:39 glad we stopped by here because this
35:39 probably won't be here next time I'm in
35:41 New York okay we cannot confirm we tried
35:43 to make heads or tails of all the stuff
35:45 it could be that they're just fixing it
35:47 up hope so hopefully it's just a
35:48 restoration I guess we'll find out soon
35:50 enough there is a date on there for the
35:52 end of June 27th that they have until
35:56 they have those permits because that
35:58 could be a demo or I don't know let's
36:01 look at this does that look like a demo
36:04 or does that look like a refurb I don't
36:06 know
36:11 I'm gonna stay positive but if they
36:11 refurb it means no one's living there
36:13 right now which means maybe it will be
36:15 for rent
36:24 I could lay in bed and watch TV in the
36:24 same spot
36:26 that Yoko dish
36:27 and that's gonna do it for today
36:31 lengthy day cover a lot of ground
36:35 back up in the room
36:38 Nightfall is reared its head
36:40 thanks for watching I'll see you the
36:42 next video the Vlog is
