0:03
today's adventure brings us to Los
0:03
Angeles California you could see
0:04
downtown off on the horizon there
0:08
amongst the haze standing on this
0:14
overlook Hollywood Bowl directly below
0:18
and if I shift this direction you will
0:21
see an iconic sign up there on the side
0:26
of the hill
0:37
see it welcome everyone Adam through
0:37
here when it comes to the greater LA
0:39
area now what you don't realize very
0:42
challenging walking down those stairs
0:45
while focusing on the the greater LA has
0:52
some very unusual structures whether
0:54
it's homes buildings or odd things that
0:57
you can see off the road some of my
0:59
favorites are the fairy tale aspect a
1:03
Fantasyland type of aspect I want to
1:08
show you some of my favorites as we
1:10
meander around the city or at least the
1:12
outskirts just kind of exploring the
1:15
nooks and crannies inviting you to join
1:18
me
1:19
careful of those stairs Chalian the
1:23
first spot is about 20 or so miles north
1:26
of here right here on Commerce Avenue
1:30
tucked away on the corner of a percent
1:33
Street is this little beauty
1:42
unusual for this neighborhood with
1:42
everything from a shield in front of the
1:45
door
1:46
slanted themed shingles and a bridge
1:49
this place is pretty incredible even
1:54
though the garage is subtly screaming no
1:57
minivans should be parked here one
2:00
currently is the woodwork
2:08
very detailed
2:20
perusing where the carport and sidewalk
2:20
eventually attached up to the porch
2:23
section
2:31
side pathway to the backyard definitely
2:31
something out of a children's book
2:35
I first stumbled on this years ago when
2:38
I was coming back down the hill see how
2:41
the road is slanted not a mile or so
2:44
upward is the ET house location we're
2:47
returning from there doing some
2:49
sightseeing I saw this and said what the
2:52
heck not only is there a fence guarding
2:57
the premises but a dragon a dragon
3:09
I swear I saw a dragon might be tough to
3:09
see on the left of your stream but tiny
3:10
stained-glass window has been open to
3:13
let some air circulation and through the
3:16
foliage it's the very top of the chimney
3:21
to see it a little better from this
3:23
angle
3:24
I always enjoy stained glass
3:27
this is right up my alley behind the
3:31
flowery bush are two examples of what
3:33
I'm referring to so cool you have no
3:39
doubt been hearing a lot of traffic
3:41
going by this is a very busy area a lot
3:44
of people probably look over and think
3:47
huh
3:48
someone passing by right now saying to
3:52
themselves that's not a modern-day
3:55
roofline
4:01
and another that's exactly what I'm
4:01
exactly what they're thinking
4:08
and a third
4:08
you just keep on mosey and by focusing a
4:11
bit on the brickwork not the way on the
4:13
posts leading to the back of the
4:15
property but also here on the ground
4:18
where the trash cans reside all
4:22
different types of formulations all
4:26
right one down and a heck of a lot more
4:28
to go
4:34
adding about 30 miles or so back the
4:34
other direction getting into these
4:39
thicker traffic areas really adds to the
4:41
excitement and time frame of the commute
4:45
if you turn off Washington Boulevard
4:47
down done Drive we will see some new
4:51
condos and apartments follow that to the
4:53
end you will see a rather odd pairing
4:55
for this neck of the woods at least for
4:58
current day construction of plenty just
5:02
looming down upon what is known as the
5:06
hobbit house now used as a series of
5:12
apartments if you lived here it'd be
5:15
like you were residing in a dream world
5:18
created by designer Laurence Joseph
5:20
didn't finish it until 1970 taking 24
5:25
years but is now a historical cultural
5:28
monument the 624
5:33
a few ponds in the front yard give us
5:36
some serenity some peacefulness an
5:39
otherwise busy noisy and hectic area of
5:43
town
5:53
quite a congregation of Turtles really
5:53
seem to be enjoying job yachts soaking
5:57
it in there on the rocks Oh some fish
6:00
they're in the water as well oh look
6:02
closely they're they're more stained
6:06
glass to be hammered by
6:14
some of the leaves on the bottom of that
6:14
branch aren't the healthiest pay no
6:18
attention just focus on the stained
6:20
glass some nice added touches is the
6:23
moss growing there and some even hanging
6:26
dangling there from the ceiling and a
6:29
lantern continually burning by the front
6:41
staying on the public sidewalk you can
6:41
see the brick begins into the driveway
6:44
way back in the back are some other
6:47
accommodations
6:50
take a look at this relic right up here
7:02
a resident just arrived on a motorcycle
7:02
not the sirens that's something
7:05
completely different
7:09
I didn't want you to get the two
7:09
confused
7:10
we'll be fascinated by this item on top
7:13
of the roof it looks like a weather vane
7:17
slash wishing well lightning rod perhaps
7:23
or maybe even that
7:32
yeah maybe that is a lightning rod right
7:32
there in the middle
7:39
maybe it really is a hidden gem of sorts
7:39
very hard to photograph I'm a distance
7:42
with all the modern-day transportation
7:44
parked out front
7:46
time to be moving on currently and rude
7:50
about five miles or so into Beverly
7:53
Hills that's where I want to be sitting
7:57
at these very cross streets is the one
8:01
and only
8:08
which house did Tudor
8:08
lots of thorns protecting and signage
8:12
stating keep out no trespassing and as
8:17
tasty and delectable as those looks word
8:21
of warning do not pick them signed the
8:27
which quite a noticeable difference from
8:31
the other homes in this circle in the
8:34
neighborhood giving a little panoramic
8:39
Glide finishing off with
8:47
and if all the other intentional posted
8:47
signs were not enough of a deterrent
8:51
there's a subtle one painted right there
8:54
on the ground stop stay pack as inviting
9:00
as this cube door is where the friendly
9:04
crows and decorative bridge may seem
9:11
keep your distance her curse could be
9:16
put on your soul it was not always in
9:20
this particular location originally it's
9:24
a little bit of a ways away moved here
9:27
it was part of a silent film studios
9:35
with all these places they are private
9:35
residence so to be respectful staying
9:38
behind the fence line but we can look
9:43
from afar the spiderweb engraved on that
9:48
car gun it's very discreet look closely
9:53
in the foliage
10:00
that's where they get their mail
10:00
delivered and then even closest to the
10:04
road next to the sidewalk some tile work
10:07
and then over here some beautiful jewels
10:11
that are interwoven and laid right there
10:16
into the earth
10:26
the glimmering I feel like it's time to
10:26
be moseying along before it for an Apple
10:29
wielding woman comes looming out that
10:32
front door but real quick like one last
10:35
view up on this roof
10:47
the creepy chimney venturing now
10:47
directly towards Hollywood on north
10:51
Formosa
10:53
he walked just past these hedges you
10:57
will reach Chaplin cottages built in
11:00
1923 by a husband and wife it was
11:03
eventually given as a nickname because
11:04
Charlie Chaplin himself lived here as
11:08
well as Rudolph Valentino and Judy
11:11
Garland there are a series of buildings
11:14
now apartments not just one particular
11:18
residency I'm going to walk up and peek
11:21
through the lock to gate just get a
11:24
little bit better perspective of the
11:26
terrain back in there
11:30
very fascinating this is just kinda kind
11:33
of tucked away right here on this road
11:36
embedded in the wall is a lion spitting
11:40
out some water
11:46
the person's driving very fast that's
11:46
these cottages of course way back in the
11:49
day this fence was not placed here to
11:51
obstruct the view there have been a
11:53
little more glamorous but understandable
11:56
they need their protection you don't
11:58
want anyone just wandering around back
12:00
in there just wedged in between two
12:03
newer buildings on either side of it
12:15
all secretive like if it does happen to
12:15
Ryan don't have to worry about it
12:16
formulating there on the roof that is a
12:18
very steep angle for it to careen off of
12:24
and this tower has reached the pinnacle
12:28
of the tree or the trees maybe grown
12:36
towards the tower what would it be like
12:38
to live here if this was your home oh
12:42
yeah I just moved into a new place Los
12:45
Angeles should swing by
12:54
your friends show up and you say step
12:54
right in
13:00
to my cottage the front angles
13:00
definitely the best from the side you
13:02
can just see how it's completely
13:04
engulfed now gotta be moving on still
13:08
more to see
13:15
still more another slow moving five mile
13:15
jaunt underway over to Griffith Park
13:18
Boulevard where it meets with st. George
13:21
Street
13:27
from rough-road if you look across the
13:27
way there and I reminded of snow white
13:29
you aren't the first to think sup in
13:32
fact that is the name they are referred
13:34
to as these little tiny dwellings back
13:39
in 1931 one of the animators that worked
13:41
on the classic lived right here years
13:45
before the movie came out things that
13:48
make ego an inspiration might have been
13:52
gained from this premises yeah
13:56
definitely safe to say featured in the
13:59
film Mulholland Drive these can be seen
14:02
and Elliott Smith the musician once
14:06
lived here
14:06
there was a time frame when you could
14:09
walk directly into the beautiful
14:11
courtyard those days have come and gone
14:14
however yet another gate has been placed
14:17
here
14:35
guy on a horse up there
14:35
guy riding a horse the type of place
14:38
you'd expect to see plenty of woodland
14:41
creatures but there aren't many maybe
14:52
one of the Seven Dwarfs crawl out of
14:55
their eyes ooming in you can see the
14:57
doorway that arch heading from the
15:01
parking area for the residents
15:04
bottom of the tower listen very closely
15:10
there's a bird chirping
15:21
thanks for adding that in bird really
15:21
driving the point out look at these
15:22
little windows up here they're only
15:24
about four or five inches wide width and
15:28
height
15:33
probably don't serve a lot of purpose
15:33
other than the looks but you need one
15:38
more spot remaining let's head over
15:40
there about a mile and a half to the
15:42
place it's not lived in it's a
15:46
functioning Irie Los Feliz Boulevard the
15:49
Tam O'Shanter established in 1922 the
15:52
same art director that designed the
15:55
witch house also did this one a place
16:00
rich in Disney history not going to dig
16:03
too deep in this episode I did want to
16:05
stop by and just show off the
16:07
architecture reminiscent of a land and a
16:09
certain theme park
16:12
picking up the bye and has those similar
16:16
slanted roofs like others we've seen
16:18
throughout the course of the day even
16:21
got their own fantastic tower as well
16:25
that's gonna do it for this episode if
16:28
you enjoyed it give it a big thumbs up
