0:03 Washington today and I'm roaming around

0:05 checking out the filming locations of

0:07 the 1993 film Benny and June and I

0:11 figured maybe you would want to tag

0:42 first stop is the location of Benny's

0:42 Car Care that's it right there the

0:45 opening shot would have been right here

0:46 and across that Marquee it would have

0:48 said Benny's Car Care and then there

0:50 would have been a Red Cross right there

0:53 the interesting thing is all along the

0:56 side of this the stains look exactly the

1:00 same as they did in the movie right here

1:03 is where they were all sitting around

1:04 the metal table working on their tools

1:07 and she walks up right about

1:12 here where these tires were and the

1:15 counter in here is now long but it used

1:17 to be this way and you can see a shot

1:19 where that door opens and closes back in

1:22 the back down there so it's changed a

1:24 lot in here but it still has that same

1:27 feel from bny and June people get really

1:30 weirded out when you're filming

1:32 especially a business even though I

1:33 asked for permission and they said it

1:34 was okay I don't know if they really

1:38 understand what I'm doing

1:39 so guess it goes with the territory

1:42 arriving now at the Benny and June house

1:44 this is one of the first scenes in the

1:45 movie after the auto shop where Benny is

1:48 walking down the road and you can see

1:51 this is the exact shot you can see up

1:54 here this overpass and the house right

1:57 here on the right hand side originally I

2:00 didn't think I was going to be able to

2:01 go inside the house but this kind

2:03 gentleman that lives across the street

2:04 just asked me do you want to go in there

2:07 my reply was yes a lot of scenes take

2:11 place here in front of the house of

2:12 course the car was parked here the tree

2:15 has been removed there used to be a huge

2:17 tree that Johnny Depp was sitting in

2:20 right up in there he was lofted in there

2:22 they kept torn the tree out and then

2:24 when they come out of the door and

2:26 they're looking for Sam Sam would have

2:29 been sitting across the street right

2:32 here on a mailbox there was a mailbox

2:35 right there this has all been changed

2:38 this house is new this condo is new a

2:41 lot has changed but a lot of it really

2:44 does still look the same you can see on

2:45 the porch they even have a little

2:47 placard that says Benny and

2:55 June oh you even have the Benny and June

2:55 poster there on the wall too yeah and

2:57 the cane here well that's probably a rep

2:59 production of his Cane I'm guessing oh

3:02 yeah well I don't

3:04 know and this is the

3:07 kitchen definitely looks a lot different

3:09 than it did in the

3:11 movie so right in here they built this

3:13 is where they would have built the

3:14 extension this is where June's little

3:16 paint area would have been from what I

3:19 can tell the Interiors were not filmed

3:22 inside

3:24 here just the exteriors right down here

3:27 they built a garden in this area was

3:29 where the garden was and then they built

3:31 onto the back side of this house so

3:34 right here this whole area was June's

3:38 room and that's where she did her

3:39 painting and then they did that song I

3:42 Would Walk 500 Miles that all happened

3:46 right in here and that's also where

3:47 Johnny Depp slept on the couch and where

3:49 they had the romantic moment after the

3:51 Balloon song remember all that that

3:54 happened that happened right there

4:02 they were sitting right here on the

4:02 shore talking you could see the house up

4:05 there in the background with that

4:06 massive porch that was built on that was

4:08 removed after the filming someone has

4:10 painted Johnny Depp's character from bny

4:13 and June on the side of this wall which

4:15 is very appropriate because right down

4:19 there is the cafe from the

4:27 movie the owner of the place told me

4:27 that the bar is the same bar they just

4:29 EX extended it out 2 more ft there used

4:32 to be a booth right here and that's

4:33 where Johnny Depp ran by slid on the

4:36 ground right here then did the little

4:38 shuffling and the juggling of the food

4:40 right there in the bench the owner of

4:42 the place is a really nice guy and told

4:43 me a lot of really cool information

4:45 about how the fire burned out all the

4:47 old booths and he replaced them and how

4:49 the counter itself is the original

4:51 counter they had to put a new counter

4:53 top on it to make it a little bit longer

4:55 but it still has the same kind of feel

4:57 as it did in Benny and June so that's

4:59 really cool right here next to these

5:01 silos at this house is where Benny was

5:04 visiting his friend Eric and they were

5:06 having the discussion and Eric said your

5:09 life is literally passing you by right

5:13 up there on that little

5:24 porch your life is literally passing you

5:24 by

5:33 I spend my life working on cars and take

5:33 care of my

5:35 system this is also the spot where June

5:37 first sees Sam the car is driving right

5:40 along here and Johnny Depp's character

5:43 would have been up in that tree as June

5:45 Drives By just like that truck

5:52 did arriving now where Julian Moore's

5:52 character Ruthie lived and managed an

5:56 apartment building and this is the

5:57 apartment building right here one scene

5:59 in particular where her and Benny in the

6:00 rain pulled their car right up here

6:02 right about where this yellow truck is

6:05 and then she gets out of the car and

6:06 runs up the

6:18 steps this is the porch where she was

6:19 given the flowers she was sitting right

6:21 there on this exact porch and the girl

6:25 that lives here gave me permission to

6:27 take a picture and get a little video

6:28 clip so was nice walking up on the

6:30 location where Johnny Depp's character

6:32 worked at the video store and it's right

6:35 it's right

6:40 here this is the exact spot he would

6:40 have been sitting in fact he would have

6:42 been sitting right there you can see

6:44 that crack in the movie as well as this

6:47 parking meter and this pole and The Help

6:49 Wanted sign was right there on the

6:52 window of the video

6:54 store I want to help and the door is

6:57 locked but you can kind of see inside

7:00 where the counter of the video store

7:02 used to be so right in there was about

7:05 where the counter

7:06 was that would have been where the video

7:08 store counter was right there on the

7:10 right it's too bad the door's locked and

7:13 we can't get in but you can see through

7:15 the window when the three of them are

7:16 sitting on a picnic blanket the picnic

7:18 blanket would have been right right

7:21 around in here and then when Johnny Depp

7:24 is pretty much chasing the

7:28 hat that that was all done right in this

7:31 area here with the backdrop of the

7:33 carousel see Johnny Depp bending to pick

7:35 his hat up pretty much right where we're

7:38 standing and if you look closely you see

7:40 the carousel in the background and that

7:43 electrical box off in the

7:57 distance right down here is where Johnny

7:57 Depp would have got on the chair tipped

7:59 the chair

8:00 over and then they would have walked

8:02 home while Benny waited and just sat on

8:05 a bench right there behind me is the

8:08 scene where the bus the commotion on the

8:10 bus was and they pull over here and they

8:12 take June away and you can tell this is

8:14 it because look at these big pillars

8:16 underneath this

8:18 bridge this is the spot the hospital

8:21 where June is taken and Johnny Depp

8:24 scaffolds the side of the

8:26 wall is right there in reality

8:30 it's a retirement

8:31 community but it does look a lot like a

8:33 hospital it hasn't really changed much

8:35 since the movie was filmed and right up

8:38 here is where Johnny Depp was swinging

8:41 him and a stunt man they both did a

8:44 couple different scenes and he was

8:46 swinging from a rope right into those

8:49 windows trying to get June to notice him

8:52 and then he fell straight down behind

8:55 those Hedges June walking out of here

8:59 see Sam Johnny Depp in a wheelchair

9:02 right

9:03 there and the movie
