0:02 today's adventure brings us to Sherman
0:02 Oaks California inside this former
0:06 Sports Authority is a pop-up exhibit is
0:11 taking place throughout the entire month
0:13 of August 2018 and it's now open to the
0:17 general public
0:18 van Eaton galleries presents
0:22 that's from Disneyland a pop-up exhibit
0:27 and auction
0:29 welcome everyone Adam is a whoo here the
0:31 thing that's most exciting about this is
0:33 this could quite possibly be the biggest
0:37 collection ever of old school Disneyland
0:41 artifacts at least one that I have seen
0:44 and we'll be able to peruse walk around
0:47 and document it is from one man's
0:51 personal collection he has decided over
0:55 the years it's just time to get rid of
0:58 most of it
1:00 and that's what's behind these walls
1:03 let's go check it out
1:05 join me shall you as you can see the
1:08 appropriate fonts lining the building as
1:12 well as these huge banners and I am not
1:16 the only one with this idea today
1:19 there's a little congregation of people
1:22 waiting to get in what better way to
1:24 start off than with the submarine voyage
1:27 sea serpents look at the sheer size of
1:31 this thing possibly the most iconic
1:34 portion of the attraction which was used
1:39 for 30 years
1:42 before it closed in 1998 now if you were
1:46 to take this thing home I have to admit
1:49 where would you where would you put this
1:52 in your living room just to give some
1:54 perspective the sign is 18 feet long
1:57 which just goes to show how long the
2:01 slithering serpent does this would
2:04 definitely bring back some serious
2:06 memories if you had this mermaid in your
2:08 household you could just go back to
2:11 yesteryear when he used to ride the ride
2:13 one of several that could be seen
2:15 gathered around piles of treasure
2:19 submarine voyage animatronic mermaid
2:24 from 1959 plenty of artwork and photos
2:28 as well and let's not forget ride
2:33 vehicles Peter Pan's flight there on the
2:35 right the Matterhorn bobsleds in the
2:37 middle and Snow White scary adventure
2:40 there on the top left that is so freakin
2:44 cool Snow White window display figure
2:47 from the 1970s and the witch right next
2:52 to her these are these are definitely
2:55 some antiques something you don't see
2:57 definitely don't see these every day
2:59 go greyhound ad promoting Los Angeles
3:02 over Anaheim usually in this day and age
3:05 you would see Anaheim is set of LA just
3:08 because Disneyland is about you know 25
3:10 miles south of the city this is from
3:13 Florida Walt Disney World
3:15 Fantasia Gardens which closed according
3:18 to the sign in 1996 you can see this
3:22 broom is working hard dumping water from
3:27 point-a
3:28 to point-b $75,000 is the estimated
3:34 worth oh my goodness
3:37 that's I you gotta have a big checkbook
3:38 you have a big checkbook for that one
3:41 however it would be quite the conversate
3:44 oh my gosh I see mr. toad mr. toad car
3:47 even the devil himself Beelzebub he's
3:51 going in he's he's looming overhead some
3:54 items you are allowed to sit on or in
3:58 this chair is not one of those items
4:04 check out the painting up there and the
4:07 clock telling time ticking to and fro
4:11 and this was also from wdw this
4:16 fibreglass little devil with this
4:20 pitchfork circa 1970 oh yeah I remember
4:26 you you haunted my nightmares for so
4:30 long as a child it's good to see you
4:32 again now I'm I'm gonna bury the hatchet
4:35 or in this case the pitchfork
4:49 thank you
4:53 nailed it my favorite thing about this
4:56 picture is the worker over here you know
5:00 putting something away we're taking
5:03 something off the chair while I'm
5:05 reliving my childhood
5:12 gracefully reliving much Hospit this
5:12 once danced around the outside of the
5:15 clock here in California it's a small
5:20 world after all BAM
5:29 once you get it in your head you cannot
5:29 escape it never used in a parade float
5:33 not on the attraction all of these dolls
5:37 could be seen going down Main Street USA
5:41 at one point most likely singing that
5:44 that catchy jingle for a cool hundred
5:47 grand
5:48 Dumbo here could be yours anywhere from
5:53 a hundred to a 150 grand you know just
5:55 the price is negotiable it is an auction
5:58 by the way used at some points in or
6:02 around the 1960s
6:10 I'm just window-shopping just
6:10 window-shopping today I should rephrase
6:11 these are just approximate values you
6:14 know an auction starts off low and could
6:16 go higher but man these are these are
6:20 some sweet relics
6:23 to say the least it's closing is closing
6:26 automatically I will lower it for you
6:30 it's a dune buggy Mickey and Minnie are
6:32 about to go an exciting adventure
6:35 probably the closest I will ever get to
6:39 a haunted mansion pulsating door it like
6:44 pushes in and out the pulsating door I
6:49 have passed one similar to these many
6:53 times on both versions east and west
6:57 coast next to the door
6:59 oh yes original stretch room portraits
7:05 oh my goodness
7:12 that's awesome as the elevator in the
7:12 mansion descends these portraits would
7:14 stretch to reveal their full image
7:17 they eventually needed to be replaced
7:19 because the wear to the canvas but from
7:22 1969 to 72 with imagery designed by
7:25 imaginaire Marc Davis they were hand
7:28 painted while the later versions were
7:31 printed people mover behind that one of
7:36 the pods from the rocket Jets whoa Space
7:41 Mountain yes I noticed this an old trash
7:46 can but Space Mountain vehicle and is a
7:52 throwback
7:54 rocket rods anyone Wow
7:58 I like the fact that there are items
8:00 from both places this is California
8:04 Disneyland and this from Walt Disney
8:07 World Florida number 12 I have to wonder
8:13 if I ever rode in this as they used this
8:16 exact one I mean this did not last very
8:18 long it could be considered a fail but
8:23 at least we have the documentation of
8:26 the vehicle and all the bells and
8:29 whistles
8:29 well parts of the bells and whistles
8:32 that made it work the rocket rods
8:36 short-lived rocket rods now I never got
8:39 the opportunity to ride the Disney Land
8:42 people mover I've ridden its counterpart
8:45 on the East Coast many many times and it
8:49 is still quite operational but I must
8:53 say this vehicle is in pristine
8:56 condition for its age stating there it
9:00 says doors are self opening
9:07 not allowed to sit in that one however
9:08 Space Mountain and even back then they
9:14 had the speakers on either side of your
9:19 earlobes to give you the proper ambience
9:29 when you were careening through the
9:29 solar system through space number nine
9:33 ready to blast off adventures through
9:38 interspace which was in Tomorrowland
9:41 this 1967 very rare Pat's a mobile 8000
9:50 M mobile
9:53 as stated they're clever play on words
9:58 which you could view while waiting in
10:01 the queue line look at that guy it's
10:05 almost like a doom buggy except
10:08 it's painted blue clever touch to this
10:12 pop up along the poles of some of the
10:17 former parking area signs there's Minnie
10:19 Tinkerbell I loop back around
10:22 we got happy one of the dwarfs Winnie
10:26 the Pooh back there next to the
10:28 escalator King Louie I've always had a
10:32 big interest in the TWA moon liner I
10:34 could see myself owning something like
10:36 this or this perhaps this poster fly TWA
10:41 got the castle down there and train
10:45 station underneath it very rare plaque
10:48 created to celebrate the grand opening
10:50 of Space Mountain 1977 there is a heck
10:57 of a lot to look out inclement weather
11:01 rocket Jets
11:02 will be grounded make sure you slide to
11:06 the rear of the Rockets
11:09 this is like sensory overload through
11:12 here it's divided into each proper
11:14 section which honestly is probably the
11:17 best way to go because experiencing all
11:20 this all shoved into one area really
11:24 would not make sense there is just so
11:26 much to see and to take in
11:29 you got alien encounter and some Star
11:33 Tours promotional materials it's really
11:37 hard to believe the Star Tours has been
11:38 open as long as it has oh who remembers
11:43 these to go to endure our Tatooine
11:48 travel posters circa 1986 progress land
11:52 model circa 1964 from the World's Fair
11:56 which eventually became carousel a
11:59 progress that we are familiar with at
12:02 the parks
12:04 how cool is that there's a great big
12:08 beautiful tomorrow wine is this thing re
12:13 done my sisters are getting shorter and
12:15 shorter hey Michael me omegle pay
12:17 attention it's joke time then that's
12:19 how's that
12:34 you don't realize how big these canoes
12:34 are until you're standing beside them
12:37 where she would grab a paddle
12:40 you would board inside Oh watch out for
12:44 this guy I think he wants
12:50 take a canoe trip on the rivers of
12:50 America
12:51 maybe one of the sweatiest experiences
12:55 and the biggest workout you can get
12:59 visiting the park
13:08 for just a nickel you can get a bear
13:08 country postcard
13:12 half-a-dime I'm not even kidding look at
13:16 this five cents
13:18 drop the coin in there and it would spit
13:22 out a little country Bear Jamboree
13:25 goodness right through those slots
13:29 after they changed the name from
13:30 Jamboree it turned into country bear
13:34 play house before they removed it and
13:37 now Winnie the Pooh sits on the same
13:40 area plastic toy raft that would
13:44 definitely make bath time fun an
13:48 explorer's map of Tom Sawyer island a
13:51 Fort Wilderness
13:54 wooden flagpole sign and Big Thunder
13:57 ranch holds a special place in my heart
14:00 I loved it before they now a couple
14:03 years ago they got rid of that whole
14:05 area this sign however predates my
14:08 memories circa 1986 large wooden
14:14 entrance sign
14:20 pretty much now Big Thunder trail which
14:20 is going to be leading to the new Star
14:22 Wars land area for all the Walt Disney
14:25 World viewers out there in the early 90s
14:29 you may or may not have gotten a
14:31 delicious ice cream as it moved up and
14:34 down Main Street USA
14:35 we got Louie we got Dewey and I'm gonna
14:39 probably place my bets and on the other
14:41 side ramp ramp ramp where is he the Main
14:46 Street windows are very popular even
14:49 today this is a cinderella display from
14:54 1970 it's trying to get that shoe on I
14:59 don't think it's gonna fit got to be
15:01 honest I don't think I don't think it's
15:03 gonna fit on her foot kind of wish some
15:06 of these items were still available for
15:09 sale playing cards color by numbers oil
15:15 set
15:16 the sweet hat Oh even a even a gun with
15:22 some darts their fantasy land coloring
15:25 book a lunchtime eating tray bubble bath
15:29 and look at these little teeny tiny
15:31 figures those could definitely get lost
15:35 or make for a very painful step for a
15:39 parent to take in the middle like a like
15:41 a Lego when you step on a lego I just
15:43 stepping on one of those who haven't
15:45 hurt global Van Lines movie truck was a
15:48 Main Street landmark appearing in many
15:51 postcards countless photos and home
15:54 videos the early Disneyland vehicle is
15:58 created by Imagineer Bob Kirk and here
16:02 it is on sight right before my eyes
16:05 and left the park in 1979 but there's a
16:09 photo of what it looked like
16:10 back in the good old days in case you
16:13 didn't know global Van Lines is the
16:15 choice of fussy people
16:19 I never knew that aerial photo from 1972
16:24 you can see it's grown a lot since those
16:27 days and even more to prove that fact is
16:32 this one from 1961 you can see all
16:36 parking lot there where Disney's
16:39 California Adventure now sets there's
16:43 Disneyland
16:45 that's where the Esplanade now is and
16:48 DCA would be right about there oh how
16:52 things change Swiss Family Robinson
16:54 treehouse the center point of the family
16:58 room you could see this organ until 1999
17:02 once Tarzan came in and changed the name
17:05 this was no longer needed but that that
17:10 is pretty awesome
17:11 we are token in the safari adventure
17:13 remote control box and you could guide
17:17 this around this little miniature full
17:20 of guests at your own leisure
17:24 you were the skipper well kind of sorta
17:28 the remote skipper miniature remote
17:31 skipper or something if this humongous D
17:34 looks familiar
17:35 it's because it's sat atop the
17:39 disneyland hotel for a heck of a long
17:43 time and it is illuminated here in this
17:46 building with the sweet red neon that
17:51 thing is massive and color-coordinated
17:54 beside it about half way up from the
17:58 ground to the top is a life preserver
18:03 from the hotel as well this is the
18:06 complete set of individual models that
18:09 they used to sell
18:11 up until 2012
18:17 I don't know if I've ever seen it
18:17 completed I've seen the individual
18:19 pieces on their own but this is all
18:23 linked together like a beautiful puzzle
18:25 best angle is the way waltz himself
18:28 would have wanted it entering the gates
18:31 through the front ducking underneath the
18:35 train station looping out next to the
18:38 flagpole and walking down Main Street
18:41 USA starting back in 1955 you could mail
18:45 a letter or a postcard from the park and
18:48 this is the original mailbox the first
18:53 one check that out operated from 55 all
18:58 the way up to the early 90s we got a lot
19:03 of use I moved to Central Florida in
19:05 1991 and would venture out to the
19:08 pleasure island area this is just a
19:10 couple years before my time 1989 to 1990
19:18 yeah so just a handful of months earlier
19:22 I could have seen this very piece of
19:24 wood designated the entrance to Pleasure
19:27 Island which is no longer operational
19:31 stepping back in time to the early 2000s
19:35 let's check the prices of daily
19:39 admission and annual passes an AP $99
19:44 special offer or the premium for 199 if
19:49 you want to do just a one day $33 to day
19:54 57 or a three-day pass 79 bucks it's
20:00 gone up just a little bit since then
20:03 used to promote the Dutch boy exhibit in
20:06 Tomorrowland is this pop-up
20:09 it's like a 3d effect well it's just
20:14 basically cardboard that like pops up
20:15 but it gives a 3d effect just about
20:18 every era and year map that you can
20:22 think of I wanted to point something out
20:25 it's always been a bit of controversy
20:27 if the Magic Kingdom is in Florida or in
20:33 Anaheim it's in both Disneyland was Walt
20:38 Disney's original Magic Kingdom it can
20:41 be seen on a lot of promotional
20:44 paraphernalia
20:45 from back in the day and occasionally
20:47 you see it current die so there are two
20:50 Magic Kingdom's the original and the
20:54 Florida version lots of items in this
20:56 display case but one I really want to
20:58 point out is this thing called a picture
21:00 gun themed around Adventureland it's
21:03 made by viewmaster you would look at
21:05 like view master cards through there
21:08 of course now nothing like this is even
21:10 allowed to be sold on property although
21:12 the carousel sign is Dumbo grasping the
21:17 feather tightly and there's Timothy of
21:20 top this was used as a store display
21:24 until around the year 2000 or so in 1983
21:29 this model of the Evil Queen as the old
21:31 hag was used in the refurbishment the
21:36 Imagineers would create these first
21:38 before they tackle the changes to the
21:40 ride it's all stated on these
21:42 information pamphlets below each product
21:46 which is nice because I know a lot about
21:48 Disney but I don't know every little
21:50 detail so these helped a lot I'm about
21:53 to get my photo inside an original
21:56 Skyway bucket
22:02 during the first few years of the
22:02 attraction the skyway used unusually
22:05 shaped rounded buckets but from 65 and
22:09 on until 94 these rectangular buckets
22:13 could be seen ferrying passengers across
22:16 the park mission accomplished
22:18 I must say I'm pretty I'm pretty stoked
22:21 to be inside that thing that very sky
22:26 way bucket went through the Matterhorn
22:27 from countless times
22:33 kind of sad those don't exist anymore as
22:35 I look around I keep noticing stuff I
22:38 didn't see the first time like this Tiki
22:41 Room flower boat hanging from the
22:44 ceiling but not making any noise they're
22:47 resting they've earned their rest after
22:50 years of activity it's time to rest
22:53 fellas it's time to rest Mark Twain in
22:59 the 60s this hung aboard the ferryboat
23:03 and for half the price this
23:05 approximately is going for you could
23:08 walk away with this pennant 1955 opening
23:12 day frontier land I don't know if
23:15 there's room in my kitchen to replace my
23:18 current trash can with this but that's
23:21 very tempting and why does it want me to
23:23 waste as asking me to please waste I
23:27 don't that doesn't make much sense Big
23:30 Thunder Mountain Railroad vehicle
23:32 lantern prop that was used for many
23:35 years these are similar to Lincoln Logs
23:38 that they're called Frontierland logs
23:43 lots of different pieces and toys that I
23:48 still wish were available and look how
23:50 extremely stoked
23:53 this guy is riding in the log on Splash
23:58 Mountain look at that he's like yeah I'm
24:01 going down the flume that's original
24:05 concept art for promotional material for
24:10 Splash Mountain look at that guy for
24:12 only a buck he used to be able to get a
24:14 magic book look at that I never knew
24:18 that existed and there is a miniature of
24:21 my all-time favorite pirate from Pirates
24:25 of the Caribbean he's near the end
24:26 before you go up the waterfall cuz he
24:29 doesn't know the words to the song he
24:31 just sings I always liked that guy this
24:37 head where it's pretty fantastic Space
24:41 Mountain
24:42 look up here flying saucer with Dookie
24:46 on it you know that that guy could never
24:49 fly straight you know he just throws it
24:53 and it just like kind of goes around
24:54 like a boomerang almost press preview
24:56 ticket for Opening Day July 17 1955
25:01 parking was a quarter and you needed
25:06 these tickets to board the railroad if
25:10 you were hired as a cast member in 1977
25:12 you were given this booklet as well as
25:16 information on how you were supposed to
25:19 keep and comb your hair financial
25:23 statement 1954 the prior year before the
25:28 park
25:30 opened and this is a sponsor packet a
25:32 couple years later 1958 this is pretty
25:36 clever right underneath the Sports
25:40 Authority weekly ad section they've
25:43 created these drummers seeking band I'm
25:48 excited to play with you he has his own
25:50 equipment
25:51 this guy looks very familiar these are
25:56 pretty neat how they created all the
25:58 vocal lessons there you got the Tiki
26:00 throne bird and docks discount plastic
26:06 surgery you know what's going on there
26:08 there is a reward for this lost dog and
26:11 Employee of the Month that's him right
26:15 there
26:15 August 2018 that's gonna do it for today
26:19 the pop-up exhibits that's from
26:23 Disneyland and I must say I don't think
26:25 there will ever come a time in my life
26:27 or you watching vicariously that you
26:30 will see the glorious amount of relics
26:33 when it comes to Disneyland Walt Disney
26:37 World one man's personal collection that
26:40 he is parting with under one roof
26:43 ever again I have seen a few of those
26:45 items at d23 and in certain other areas
26:49 but never conglomerate Lee in one
26:53 section the magnitude of what's inside
26:56 the structure was absolutely incredible
26:59 put the link to their website down below
27:01 for those who do not live in the Los
27:04 Angeles area but if you do live near LA

28:22 in the Haunted Mansion
