today's adventure brings us to skylift
0:03
Park in Gatlinburg Tennessee and as I
0:07
pan over you can see some guests which I
0:11
will be one of in the very very near
0:13
future as I ascend the mountain to an
0:19
attraction that just recently opened
0:23
there on the top left corner way up
0:27
there it's begun grounds not too far
0:32
from my feet at the moment welcome
0:33
everyone Adam the Wu here but rest
0:35
assured I will continue to go up up up
0:39
hopefully not away yes I'm back in
0:46
Tennessee an impulsive return trip to
0:52
see a few things and stay a few days
0:55
maybe a tad bit more I haven't quite
0:59
decided what I'm inviting you to join me
1:02
shall you as I briefly stop and kinda
1:07
Teeter over this river show you the
1:11
pamphlet that I was given upon entry
1:14
number 33 is the one I chose or should I
1:17
say was given but back to the pamphlet
1:22
states from the very top the new sky
1:27
bridge stretches 680 feet across
1:31
Crockett Mountain reaching a height of a
1:35
hundred and forty feet above the valley
1:38
floor the longest pedestrian bridge in
1:42
North America if you think the view
1:45
behind me is rather majestic just wait
1:48
it'll get better it'll get much much
1:51
better another brief stopping point
1:59
family in front of me their children are
1:59
stating that they're about to drop which
2:01
I hope is not true you can see some of
2:04
the former stanchions from the old ride
2:11
now they've replaced it with the new
2:13
pillars maybe a patient they were just
2:18
momentarily stopped okay okay we're
2:23
going
2:31
cost of admission was around 26 dollars
2:31
in change give or take
2:34
give or take a coin or two to grab a
2:38
seat but there are some rather expansive
2:43
and impressive angles from way up here
2:48
the mechanism I'm sitting in has been
2:51
here for quite a while but the structure
2:53
of the building on the right that is
2:55
also new as well as the bridge I will
2:58
soon be meandering across a camera I
3:01
will believe take my photo
3:05
okay taking it there is a family of
3:09
bears hanging around up here and there's
3:13
some seats you can just you know make
3:15
yourself comfortable and enjoy the view
3:17
there it is in all its glory the Sun is
3:19
starting to descend behind the mountain
3:22
peaks you can kind of still make it out
3:24
there looming in the shadows of the
3:28
valley below you know collect I'll walk
3:31
across that thing to make your way up
3:34
the stairs these little waterfall
3:36
features
3:38
I've been added gives it a nice little
3:41
ambience another seating area
3:45
above them as well begins at this point
3:48
and then you just step by step
3:53
go across the gap oh yeah it's happening
4:02
I'm doing this no turning back
4:06
looks pretty cool with the added haze
4:09
the Smoky Mountains six hundred and
4:14
eighty feet long established 2019
4:18
as stated right here on this placard I
4:23
guess when the hours reach their point
4:26
of closure they take these gates and
4:28
they close on you don't want anybody
4:29
going across there after after business
4:32
hours it's my time it's my time oh yes
4:43
oh yes all right I really haven't made
4:46
it too far just just a couple of yards
4:49
it's very bouncy I'm trying to hold it
4:52
still
4:52
but as look at this that's just like
4:55
shaking all around this is just like oh
4:58
goodness this is this is much I'm gonna
5:02
use the word flimsy but it's much more
5:04
like bouncy than I expected
5:06
like you shaking it yeah you're just
5:12
trying to frighten me thing is
5:14
definitely swaying
5:26
completely a lot a lot shaky er didn't
5:26
expect that starting to get the hang of
5:28
this now start even though it's even
5:30
though it's kind of doing this starting
5:31
to get that I'm starting to get the feel
5:34
the consensus whatever you do it's
5:38
almost like I'm on a boat out to sea the
5:42
way it's swaying and show it's like
5:43
connected to these these like heavy
5:46
heavy pieces of rope steel rope that's
5:52
like keeping it all safe but you can
5:54
even see how they're just kind of
5:56
jiggling jiggling around quite a bit
5:59
oh my gosh look at this it's like right
6:02
there just
6:11
it'll be okay I think a very decent
6:11
sized connector hook oh my gosh this
6:13
thing is just like back and forth this
6:17
gives me a vote of confidence though
6:19
this is not an amateur our connector
6:21
hook this thing is not going to fold
6:24
under the pressure you can see how it
6:29
just stretches over that way look at
6:30
just okay just hold it here for a second
6:33
you see it's just kind of like just like
6:35
and almost like an earthquake is
6:38
happening I'll pan up and just kind of
6:40
show the perimeter where I am as I spin
6:43
to the right you can see downtown
6:45
Gatlinburg from way up here you get
6:47
pretty good birds I don't think a bird
6:50
would be too frightened I was used to
6:52
the wind shaking around to and fro my
6:56
gosh look okay everything is just fine
7:08
in my brain until this oh my gosh until
7:11
this point I am Oh what the heck all I
7:14
see is my reflection looking down and
7:17
there's a hole right here there's a hole
7:35
don't say that I didn't hear what I
7:35
didn't hear that I'm striking that from
7:36
my memory the middle section really is a
7:39
popular spot where you can see through
7:42
the glass that's kind of where everybody
7:43
wants wants to stand and get a peek
7:45
downward what you're saying about the
7:57
only one slightly slightly frightening
7:59
it definitely does throw your
8:02
equilibrium completely off okay I'm just
8:08
gonna keep moving yeah it's like a very
8:11
uneasy feeling and experience all in all
8:15
it's not too bad I'm handling it really
8:17
well just first it's difficult to get
8:20
used to but then after a while you're
8:22
just like okay I got this 680 feet long
8:27
five feet wide there's 1430 cedar planks
8:31
there's three sections of ice five feet
8:33
each which is 15 feet of glass there's a
8:36
1 million 63,000 125 pounds of concrete
8:39
holding this bridge in the ground and
8:41
the approximate weight of the bridge is
8:42
53,000 pounds one panel of that glass
8:45
which is three layers one on a quarter
8:47
inch thick it can crush it can hold the
8:50
way to the bridge which is approximate
8:51
about 53,000 pounds
8:52
there's 3.33 miles of cable altogether
8:55
which is 48.9 football fields and the
8:59
UMaine cable is 2 inch in diameter and 9
9:01
pounds of foot the bridge was built with
9:04
a drone and a winch I believe there was
9:07
a couple of dozers involved too because
9:09
of health
9:11
yeah this side over here goes 65 feet in
9:14
the bedrock with the concrete that side
9:16
over there goes 85 feet in the bedrock
9:19
and each of your anchors are 35 to 45
9:21
feet is it better up that's a lot of
9:24
info I will probably not commit that to
9:26
memory but I appreciate you shared that
9:28
with me
9:28
there's over 10,000 decking screws and
9:30
over 40,000 pieces the hardware Wow how
9:34
long did it take to start to finish
9:36
eight to nine months which the thing of
9:38
it was they thought the idea before the
9:41
fires so they already did all the
9:43
surveying and stuff and after the fires
9:45
they just got straight to building it's
9:48
amazing because from ground level the
9:50
Space Needle you see kind of in the
9:52
middle of the screen seem so tall but
9:55
from way up here it's not tall at all
9:58
and yes believe it or not it is called
10:01
the Space Needle and I saw that Believe
10:03
It or Not reference in there because at
10:05
the base of it is is Ripley's this shows
10:09
the names of all the different different
10:11
points and Peaks as you look out over
10:13
the horizon they're kind of
10:21
little information on what each name is
10:21
looking over there into the haze handing
10:24
back around all you have to do is look
10:26
down here and realize that that was
10:29
Green buyer pinnacle Brushy Mountain and
10:34
others the illumination has been turned
10:46
on and the worker was letting me know
10:51
that the glass up here can hold a lot of
10:54
weight still wobbling oh my gosh still
10:58
yeah we're closer to the middle you
11:00
really start to feel the shakiness it's
11:07
just like
11:13
back and forth
11:13
to and fro
11:23
think the lower I get the camera angle
11:23
down the more you can kind of see how
11:26
it's sways and I'm not even really doing
11:29
this people approaching me from a few
11:32
feedback they're walking just because
11:34
there looks like the crowd has started
11:40
to dissipate and now you can really see
11:43
how this Oh My yes that is
11:54
that is an experience right there look
11:58
at that straight down you guys going
12:02
across
12:03
well you got to lay out it got to see
12:18
exactly what this is
12:41
the crowd catch-all is definitely that
12:41
middle section with the glass it's only
12:44
a few feet maybe like three panels so
12:47
everyone just kind of congregates there
12:50
you got to be quick if you want a photo
12:59
and it's the shakiest parts okay
12:59
there's a lot of weight right there the
13:00
bridge is like a cup site really trying
13:02
to hold this camera study
13:23
I think bulletproof glass
13:23
there's hiding though against the corner
13:34
it's my good side
13:34
yeah my good side right here
13:37
not like a Burt Reynolds yeah yeah thank
13:46
you
14:36
I'm glad I got here during the day and
14:36
waited around til nightfall you kind of
14:39
get the best of both worlds
14:40
as far as ambiance goes
15:04
try my darndest to hold this camera
15:04
still easier said than done
15:19
okay that was pretty cool he says
15:19
galoshes
15:48
ohmygosh had just realized that noise is
15:48
the creaking and the turning of the
15:51
planks
15:51
I mean it's key here the crickets too
15:56
but the other noise with anything there
15:59
are some rules for safety reasons no
16:02
food or beverages on the bridge itself
16:03
want you to either side you can get get
16:06
a soda or a snack but not on the bridge
16:09
itself for obvious reason they don't
16:11
want anything dropping off the side of
16:13
that and plummeting down to the to the
16:15
earth do not run jump or bounce and
16:19
don't climb on the railings if you have
16:20
children do not lift them over the side
16:23
you know dangle them that's not very
16:25
good and when the surface is wet it will
16:27
be slippery
16:27
obviously strollers and wheelchairs are
16:29
not permitted do not drop anything and
16:32
the park is not responsible for any job
16:35
titles so if my camera would have taken
16:37
a plummet that would have been on me
16:48
very brave is bouncing these other guys
16:48
putting it on side of the rail everyone
16:54
reacts differently sometimes people we
17:05
go a few feet take a photo and then
17:08
state it to their family members they're
17:10
not going any further
17:11
and they just zoom past these flowers
17:15
where those other moons up there
17:21
Moon's out
17:50
that sound shifting sir
19:53
feels great up here still got a head in
19:53
there and find out what's inside that
19:55
building
20:07
I'm guessing food and gifts
20:07
downtown Gatlinburg looks pretty
20:09
fantastic all lit up all illuminated
20:14
with the Dion and just regular lights
20:16
lining the streets it all just kind of
20:19
it all just kind of goes together in the
20:22
forefront of the bridge this new seating
20:24
area you can just you know take a load
20:28
off relax and look over the majesticness
20:41
of tourism in full-form
20:41
I am Beauty can't will see the mountains
20:44
now because is too dark but during the
20:45
day you can see the mountain ranges are
20:47
breathtaking that little bear is looking
20:51
at the people cross him that little bear
20:54
wants to cross you went across a little
20:59
they are a little baby bear you want to
21:01
cross that bridge you'll cross that
21:05
bridge when you get there
21:24
I don't think this was on purpose but
21:24
sky center you're looking how to get in
21:27
sky inter there you go in you enter
21:32
through here
21:35
oh dang this is pretty pretty freakin
21:38
nice in here with a nice little outdoor
21:40
seating area with a pretty fantastic
21:43
overlook yep I was right an assortment
21:46
of products for purchase making my
21:48
descent heading back down the mountain
22:01
and I love these type of ski laughs I'm
22:01
just like anytime anywhere I go anywhere
22:03
if a ski lift exists I don't even ski
22:07
but if there is a lift of the ski
22:09
persuasion we'll be more than happy to
22:12
grab a seat
22:13
whether it be up the side of a hill at a
22:17
fair in a theme park I'm all about it I
22:22
don't know what I don't know it's like a
22:23
tractor beam they just draws me in just
22:28
enjoy the soothing sounds well I'm
22:33
talking go now I'm gonna
22:35
now enjoy the soothing sounds of the
22:38
mechanical gizmos and kallenberg
22:48
someone's yelling and whistling at the
22:48
same time it's probably two people doing
22:51
I don't think one person can both yell
22:53
and whistle simultaneously that would be
22:56
Talent
23:14
this goes right over a thoroughfare
23:14
right over traffic
23:24
that's gonna do it for today if you're
23:24
new here please subscribe by doing so it
23:26
helps keep you in the loop enough
23:27
tonight on future uploads here on this
23:29
channel take it a step further ring that
23:32
notification valve see you the next
23:33
video the law
23:46
that was a perfect example of how I keep
23:46
a shot in because it was good halfway
23:49
decent lighting on the side of a dark
23:51
mountain versus the noisy motorcycle
23:54
going by normally I would redo that take
23:56
but in this case you could see my face
23:58
so it won out
24:01
you still hear that psycho all the way
24:03
from here it's a loud one it is always
24:06
hard for me to wrap my head around the
24:08
fact that I'm being held up by that one
24:11
little notch that one bolt going over
24:15
through that mechanism is what is
24:16
keeping me afloat if you will
