0:02 today's adventure brings us to Sunset
0:02 Boulevard to a very iconic Hollywood
0:05 landmark one that I have passed many
0:07 many times but never properly sat foot
0:10 located at 6 671 as the address the
0:15 crossroads of the world always enjoyed
0:19 the backstory of this place it's
0:22 something that we're gonna dive right
0:23 into the nooks and crannies
0:26 welcome everyone added me the woo here
0:29 as always I'm inviting you to join me
0:33 shall you just a few feet away is this
0:37 very impressive church building
0:40 and where this Halle sits used to be an
0:43 Ivy coded building that was an office of
0:47 the property owner of the entire block
0:50 he spent his last moments right here a
0:53 crime that's still to this day is
0:57 unsolved
1:04 transpiring in 1931 Charles H Crawford
1:04 and another man who were shot that
1:09 building was eventually demolished
1:11 making way five years later for this in
1:16 order to remove the memory of her tragic
1:18 past his wife Ella thought this would be
1:23 more fitting and we now have what some
1:25 consider to be the world's first
1:27 shopping center with a big boat in the
1:31 courtyard let me rephrase that and
1:32 clarify a little better the world's
1:34 first outdoor mall there is so much more
1:39 tucked away back here than you initially
1:41 see from the main thoroughfare this is
1:43 way back behind the enclosed parking lot
1:47 the main premise behind it was that the
1:50 ship was pulling into port and on either
1:53 side were these buildings themed to
1:59 different countries stretching all the
2:01 way down stores on the bottom and office
2:07 space on top each and every bottom level
2:10 facade sold different items kind of
2:14 think of it predating World Showcase at
2:17 Epcot more or less in the same vein as
2:21 that
2:29 this would be the European village
2:29 setting both facing each other this one
2:35 lining up parallel with this other set
2:38 of rooms incredible how talked away and
2:43 quiet this is back in here you can see
2:46 progress just there on the horizon
2:49 brand-new condos and apartments popping
2:52 up everywhere so peaceful back here you
2:55 almost don't feel like you're in the
2:57 heart of Los Angeles and Hollywood with
2:59 the hustle and bustle going to and fro
3:02 even a wishing well you can toss a coin
3:05 in actually it's used for a planner now
3:07 but sure someone's tossed a coin in
3:10 there at some point in their life could
3:11 certainly do some thinking maybe even
3:14 make some deals have some meetings we
3:17 land in DeLand a lot of television and
3:21 movie royalty have walked these very
3:23 sidewalks over the decades some serious
3:26 atmosphere and ambience taking place
3:36 don't think this bicycle has been ridden
3:36 in quite some time
3:37 it may just be placed there just to set
3:41 the mood you can see the tilework and
3:44 the bricks from a simpler time
3:56 hello Alice on either side of a head can
3:56 almost get lost in the details
3:58 everywhere you stare is something
4:00 different the center of the complex is
4:05 this structure which has a has had a
4:08 variety of uses over the years with its
4:11 Arabic archways it's very distinct check
4:14 out this classic photo from a grand
4:16 opening they have a banner across the
4:18 the entry point and the lights were on
4:21 as of right now there is no illumination
4:24 shining through that window whatever's
4:27 behind there is not for retail use Alice
4:30 Cooper even used this spot for muscle of
4:33 love cover they were all just sprawled
4:36 out right there on the ground
4:45 Huell Howser film an episode here where
4:45 he was just kind of roaming the premises
4:47 exploring checking things out and as the
4:49 story goes later in his life he liked
4:52 this place so much he came back and
4:54 rented an office you know who else did
4:56 that Alfred Hitchcock yes he was here
5:00 and if he knew this place was still open
5:02 today and accessible Hitchcock it would
5:06 be proud standing in this spot way back
5:09 then if you had 15 extra cents he didn't
5:12 feel like walking on your own accord he
5:15 could have taken a little a little buggy
5:17 and they would have escorted you right
5:21 there I'm also noticing up here some
5:24 signage that states Screen Actors Guild
5:29 which means it was located right here on
5:31 this building to the right tucked away
5:36 over here represents what you'd see an
5:38 architecture of early America also known
5:42 as the Cape Cod buildings with their
5:45 very distinct roof lines and chimneys
5:48 and although these seats are probably
5:51 not very comfortable made of stone and
5:54 rock if they could talk they'd most
5:58 likely tell some interesting stories of
6:02 years gone by you also might recall
6:05 where the staircase leads down into that
6:07 door from LA Confidential Danny DeVito
6:10 spent a lot of time in that room typing
6:14 with the illuminated neon of that sphere
6:19 shining down upon him very prominently
6:23 the performance by a mariachi band here
6:26 at address 1550 you see the awning there
6:30 and even the church behind it
6:33 this is what it looks like currently no
6:38 food being served
6:40 but you can still tell that's the same
6:42 same spot a couple other movie locations
6:46 I should mention towards the front of
6:48 the boat and that top room Ford Fairlane
6:51 Andrew Dice Clay that's where he was
6:54 where his office is located and directly
6:58 below him on the bottom floor Demi Moore
7:01 from Indecent Proposal that's where she
7:05 worked her desk would have been located
7:08 behind that wall if I shift just a bit
7:11 Robert Redford
7:13 while waiting had a seat
7:17 behind this glass you can see this very
7:20 fountain behind him as he's waiting
7:24 patiently for dimming this is the type
7:27 of stuff you don't really see in this
7:28 day and age too much anymore this type
7:31 of tile work and I really love just the
7:36 era and style of this handle I get
7:41 excited about the simple things this is
7:44 an antique and a relic right here for
7:45 sure
7:46 old Hollywood from some promotional
7:49 material back when it opened these four
7:52 lovely ladies are standing along a
7:54 railing on the ledge and that is the
8:00 very ledge right there after seeing all
8:05 these areas representing different
8:07 countries the question has been answered
8:10 that's why it's called crossroads the
8:13 world really does make traveling and
8:16 commuting much easier when it's kind of
8:19 all in the same little area the same
8:22 square footage I'm not really staying in
8:25 the same decade as far as photographs go
8:27 I'm jumping all over the place and I
8:28 apologize for that I wanted to show
8:30 these just to prove that at one point it
8:35 really was a real beehive of activity
8:39 out here people used to dress a lot
8:44 nicer and much more dapper back that
8:48 example these two ladies walking down
8:52 this very pathway down the brick
9:02 some elements very storybook fantasy
9:02 landish a lot of wise kind of like
9:07 stepping into a fairy tale children's
9:11 book I'm also noticing there's a very
9:15 old McDonald's commercial there's Ronald
9:17 riding his bike right around the same
9:20 area as that wishing well right out so a
9:24 pathway here
9:34 well Ronnie faintly hear the traffic of
9:34 horns the yelling passer buyers just a
9:40 short stone's throw away some hustle and
9:44 bustle but not in here very peaceful in
9:47 here it's like a whole different world
9:51 pun intended
9:52 pun very intended a bygone era with a
9:57 shelf behind the glass display case for
10:00 products for consumers to look out first
10:04 and then purchase a letterbox for us
10:08 mail directly below that it states
10:11 erected 1936 and the architects named
10:16 Robert V deira declared a historic and
10:21 cultural monument as it should be this
10:25 place will be around for many years to
10:27 come for all to enjoy the gates are open
10:30 during the day at night they're locked
10:32 but during daytime hours feel free to
10:35 stop in and pay a visit because there is
10:39 a boatload of history to enjoy if you're
10:43 into that sort of thing and even if
10:46 you're not still an enjoyable walk
10:48 through and not too far from the Chinese
10:51 Theatre and other very popular Hollywood
10:54 sites tourist destinations in this neck
10:58 of the woods the flag is waving
11:02 however the globe is not circulating the
11:05 earth up there is not rotating as I've
11:07 seen in the past big audio dynamite
11:11 dragged their entire drum kit and
11:15 musical instruments right there above
11:17 the signage at the base
11:30 where are you go win my beautiful friend
11:30 I'm not kidding they were really all
11:32 right up there behind that side it's
11:37 your story remember that song you can't
11:39 forget that song exiting out the front
11:42 and heading around to the back side of
11:44 the establishment you cannot gain an
11:47 entry from this area there is a fence up
11:50 but now that I'm back a little bit
11:52 further I was comparing some info I
11:56 found and right here on the left this
11:58 used to be a coffee shop and a bakery so
12:02 each morning you could get a little
12:03 caffeine to start your day in fact
12:05 here's another angle of it notice the
12:08 neon signage still there after all these
12:13 years
12:15 you've heard of the backside of water
12:18 well you know the rest I do believe the
12:23 lantern well it's basically just a
12:25 spotlight might still be operational up
12:29 there you can see the bulb and the
12:33 little circular thing right there and
12:35 the lighthouse itself this was recreated
12:38 very meticulously Central Florida for
12:42 the opening of the 1989 theme park
12:44 disney-mgm Studios and still resides
12:47 there in its current incarnation
12:49 Disney's Hollywood Studios it acts as a
12:53 gift shop where you can pick up your
12:55 guide maps on the entryway into the
12:58 market
12:59 faintly hear the church bells
13:03 traffic flow is disguising it quite a
13:06 bit though
13:07 listen
13:15 so whether you see this here
13:15 we're on the opposite coast you can now
13:18 say hey I know what that is
13:26 sometimes I like to throw in little
13:26 tie-ins that aren't vitally necessary
13:28 but do pertain to the subject matter so
13:31 I've driven across town at the top of
13:34 this hill is the property owner Charles
13:38 H Crawford as mentioned earlier an
13:42 unsolved mystery the details of how he
13:47 perished May 20th 1931 and if it wasn't
13:55 for his passing we might not have cross
14:00 roads of the world because his wife in
14:04 order to cleanse the memory and the
14:07 relics of what remained from that
14:09 horrible event had the landscape changed
14:14 forever her husband was a little easier
14:18 to find took me quite a while
14:30 before I saw Ellis head sound beloved
14:30 mother born in 1891 to 1953
14:45 her idea still lives on to this very day
14:48 and hopefully for some time to come
15:05 that's gonna do it for today if you're
