0:05 Duck's Donuts I don't think I've ever
0:07 had coffee from Duck's Donuts also
0:09 today's adventure or should I say Todd
0:13 Venture
0:15 YouTube's own Todd Venture channel here
0:17 Connie and Todd are here to show me
0:19 around the greater Charlotte area and
0:22 also into South Carolina right yeah sure
0:24 what do you what do you have up your
0:25 sleeves
0:26 for today
0:28 up my sleeves yeah where are you taking
0:30 me oh we're gonna go to uh Heritage USA
0:33 okay and then another place you've never
0:35 been to Heritage Village yes which was
0:38 where it all started pretty much as
0:40 which is basically the PTL Club yeah and
0:52 enamored by these Donuts here bacon
0:52 bacon what you got Connie got the bacon
0:54 maple glazed donut and a regular glaze
0:58 regular glaze fabulous everything go
1:00 goes better with bacon that's it you've
1:03 got the line yeah yeah there was another
1:05 there was another coffee place you guys
1:07 were going to take me to but it was
1:09 closed yeah we drove a thousand miles
1:11 and it was closed you didn't I drove a
1:14 thousand miles oh yeah you drove like
1:15 two miles
1:16 here all right let's get going I'm
1:19 inviting you to join me Connie and Todd
1:21 from the Todd Adventure Channel
1:24 shall you all right before these are
1:25 devoured I just want to kind of show
1:27 these a little up more up close and
1:28 personal that's just chunks of bacon
1:30 right yeah and what's his maple on there
1:32 maple glazed yeah and the bacon that's a
1:36 regular regular glaze yeah I'm more of a
1:38 regular glaze but this right here it
1:40 looks pretty delicious yeah we're gonna
1:42 try it
1:43 okay we drove a couple miles away we're
1:45 parked over here behind this very
1:47 impressive church building even though
1:49 this probably isn't the best view we're
1:50 kind of around the back side
1:52 of the steepo and everything over there
1:54 but this neighborhood reminds me out of
1:56 something
1:58 out of a John Hughes film obviously John
2:00 Hughes films were in Chicago but this
2:03 kind of has that vibe
2:05 the first spot of the day
2:08 is the home of an old western star
2:10 Randolph what was his name Randolph
2:13 Scott Randolph Scott oh yeah
2:16 he was big in the 30 40 50s who was
2:20 really good friends with Cary Grant
2:21 right oh yeah
2:23 yep and you were saying Carrie Grant
2:25 once visited here oh yeah so they were
2:27 kind of like thick as thieves they were
2:30 uh they were buds they were yeah they
2:32 were like this
2:33 yeah in a lot of ways and this was his
2:36 home right here yep and I learned
2:38 something kind of interesting too I was
2:40 looking up a little bit about Randolph
2:41 Scott on the way to drive over from the
2:43 duck's Donuts also I should say this is
2:45 probably the most scaldingly hot coffee
2:48 I've ever had which is oh by the way how
2:51 was the donut it was fabulous loved it
2:53 yeah yeah and the coffee is good too
2:55 very very good did you get a hot coffee
2:57 or a cold coffee hot
2:59 are you a piping hot guy too
3:01 your team Hot I'm a popping all right
3:05 nice very nice but this thing is warm
3:09 also his name was mentioned in Blazing
3:11 Saddles
3:12 where they said you'll do it for
3:13 Randolph Scott that was in blazing style
3:15 so a lot of Pop Culture references but
3:17 also
3:18 the Oakland Raiders now the Las Vegas
3:21 Raiders were the LA Raiders they use his
3:25 face the gentleman he used to live here
3:27 the Western Star
3:29 and his face what is the logo of the
3:32 pirate they use his face to model after
3:34 the pirate that's pretty cool have you
3:37 ever been to this house before you ever
3:38 been driven by a pocket but I couldn't
3:41 really see because it was nice
3:43 this is a nice area it's very this is my
3:45 favorite area
3:50 kind of has areas of Cleveland that are
3:50 like this too that have a lot of the
3:51 brick houses and then obviously Chicago
3:54 as well
3:59 some caution tape this is probably left
3:59 over from Halloween
4:16 but there is no placard here there's no
4:16 there's no info is there
4:19 there's info of course I mean there's
4:21 plenty of stuff online you can find out
4:22 about Randolph Scott living here yeah
4:24 and being from here he was what's weird
4:26 is he's he's
4:27 he was accidentally born in Virginia
4:30 family went on vacation right and mom
4:32 went on into labor and but he was born I
4:35 mean he's from here but he's born in
4:36 Virginia because all of a sudden boom
4:38 but I see a like a historic little
4:41 placard looks like up there yeah okay
4:43 maybe there is one up there we're not
4:45 gonna walk up in their yard but he
4:47 passed away at Beverly Hills obviously a
4:48 big famous Hollywood actor
4:51 but he's got his I want to say humble
4:54 beginnings this is a pretty nice house
4:55 but he got his Beginnings we're here
4:57 we're here yep part partially he wasn't
4:59 born here but lived here a good portion
5:01 of his beautiful home him and Carrie
5:03 Grant having some having some good times
5:05 right here on this property
5:07 we kind of walked around the side back
5:09 to yeah back to the car but look at the
5:12 there's like even a
5:14 a separate Chalet back around the back
5:17 yeah this is this is a nice house
5:20 and some old Hollywood Western history
5:23 right here in Charlotte North Carolina
5:25 who knew I'm riding in the passenger
5:27 seat
5:28 of the Venture mobile
5:30 top Venture mobile where are we off to
5:33 next
5:34 we're hidden we're actually about to
5:36 cross into Billy Graham territory right
5:38 up here is Billy Graham the family
5:41 owned a lot of this property at one time
5:43 this is his farm
5:45 all through here and uh the ball there's
5:47 the Park Row shopping center which we've
5:49 happened in just a minute see that right
5:52 up here but we're heading towards
5:54 Heritage Village where it's not Heritage
5:57 USA it was the precursor yep to Heritage
6:00 USA which I did not know about you you
6:01 told me about it that's right so we're
6:03 getting a little prehistory to Heritage
6:04 USA exactly Heritage Village
6:08 okay we're at the location where Jim and
6:10 Tammy Faye Baker's home used to sit
6:13 this is Heritage Village
6:16 and where do they do they tear it down
6:17 or they move it they tore it down they
6:19 tore it down yep
6:22 and then up the hill he'd keep driving
6:23 up up the hill is the original building
6:27 so this was the original
6:29 spot yep where heritage
6:33 Village was before it became Heritage
6:35 USA
6:36 so PTL kind of started here this is
6:39 where it started
6:41 to walk around and check it out
6:44 and I'll tell you about this building
6:46 here this is not the original building
6:48 that was here I'm gonna tell you I'll
6:50 tell you what was there I'll walk around
6:51 cool so they would walk from their house
6:53 up here and they would do the original
6:55 PTL show and then of course as it got
6:57 more popular they moved across the state
6:59 line to South Carolina to Fort Mill so
7:02 this is a newer building this is newer
7:04 to the to the force
7:06 church it's a new church now
7:08 but what used to be here were the
7:11 Williamsburg homes oh they were it was
7:14 kind of like he won the model after a
7:16 Williamsburg setting by Colonial period
7:18 yeah so they had three homes here that
7:20 you go into
7:22 and they were like very historic looking
7:24 they had little gardens just like
7:26 growing rural plants and everything yeah
7:27 right here they tore the homes down but
7:29 this is the original mansion that was
7:30 here yeah and I can't remember who owned
7:32 it but that's been here since probably I
7:35 think the late 40s is when this was
7:37 built now back here tucked away is where
7:40 they would do the original show so this
7:42 is where the show took place so this is
7:43 an original building back here
7:58 he wanted to model it after yeah
7:58 that's amazing this is where at all this
8:00 is where it all began pretty much yep
8:08 all right I found an old postcard online
8:08 so this is the old postcard here before
8:10 they moved down to Fort Mill South
8:12 Carolina so this is like kind of
8:15 there's the steeple and all that and
8:16 then down here is some text
8:18 of what the postcard says right here so
8:20 see PTL Club Charlotte North Carolina
8:24 28279
8:25 right there that is so fascinating that
8:29 it wasn't always down at Heritage it was
8:31 up here across the state line of North
8:32 Carolina years ago
8:35 this doorway here
8:37 a lot of people know about
8:40 is a pool
8:42 oh back here behind here yes you go in
8:44 that back door
8:46 and you go down the stairs and it was a
8:48 Grecian romanist looking pool
8:52 and I used to go there years ago really
8:55 and swim in the pool it was an awesome
8:57 pool and later they filled the pool up
9:01 but you go down there and the all the
9:03 walls were mirrors yeah around there the
9:07 pillars and they had a couple statues in
9:09 there so they they filled the pool up
9:11 they filled the pool up but back in the
9:12 80s when they first had this property
9:15 you can go down there and go swimming
9:17 long time ago all right from here I just
9:20 looked up on the maps and it says it's
9:22 19 minutes
9:24 and you could actually still type in
9:26 Heritage USA it's just south of
9:27 Pineville right across the state line
9:30 so it's about 20 minute commute
9:32 when they moved from here down to there
9:34 I'm surprised you could still type in
9:35 Heritage USA because it's not in the
9:36 call it hasn't been called that forever
9:38 ever yeah okay we made it to Fort Mill
9:40 well just a couple miles outside Fort
9:42 Mill South Carolina we crossed over the
9:44 state line Heritage Boulevard
9:50 and the original entrance at the
9:50 Heritage USA used to be right down here
9:53 now I covered Heritage USA back I think
9:54 in February or March I was through here
9:56 but a lot of the stuff I'm showing I did
9:58 not know until today
10:01 with Todd showing me around and Billy
10:03 Graham's home was moved a couple times
10:05 and it sat here too so Billy Graham's
10:07 home was over on that corner yeah right
10:09 over there that's where it was and right
10:12 there was a little Hill there in the
10:13 department of parking lot was right
10:15 there so it was moved a couple times
10:18 yeah now it's at the the Billy Graham
10:21 Library they do it piece by piece
10:23 from the first time was from Charlotte
10:25 and then they moved it over here yeah it
10:28 was there for since 1983.
10:32 to about 2 000 early 2000s and then they
10:36 start building the Billy Graham Library
10:37 and the original sign you see in all the
10:40 photos of Heritage USA was down at the
10:42 bottom of that hill we should walk down
10:43 there let's do it
10:44 so this is where the checkpoint was is
10:46 to head in and that is original that
10:49 Little Rock work over there yeah with
10:51 the flag jar that's that was here
10:54 and you had the Heritage USA flag up
10:57 here the American flag up top yeah in
10:59 the PTL flag
11:00 oh so the same flagpoles yep wow
11:03 that's the original
11:05 oh yeah you can see this is definitely
11:07 been around for a while
11:09 little relics here
11:14 I can't remember that fountains here or
11:14 not
11:27 yeah
11:27 Heritage PTL in the American flag so
11:29 Heritage was here yep and then PTL in
11:32 the middle on the side side and then
11:33 American flag in the middle
11:35 just wooden sign here this Heritage USA
11:38 wooden sign was down at the bottom of
11:41 the hill
11:42 kind of showing the photo here and where
11:44 the sign was
11:46 was right down at the bottom of this
11:48 hill so those condos and apartments over
11:50 there that was just a wooded area so you
11:53 turn off this and go drive up the side
11:54 of the Hill into Heritage USA okay I was
11:57 incorrect it was not over there that was
11:59 right there oh it was right here so
12:00 these are the same trees that were
12:01 behind it yep holy cow okay
12:04 that's where it was so you pulled in
12:06 that was the first thing you agreed with
12:07 okay so it was not there I was assuming
12:10 wrong it was right here so these are the
12:12 trees you see behind that photo
12:20 if there's any remnants of the
12:23 of the pole look at this ant bed holy
12:25 cow
12:26 look at this thing
12:28 that is a Monumental ant bed
12:32 I'm not going to disturb I'm not going
12:34 to disturb that at all
12:37 holy moly that is uh yeah
12:41 you see any remnants in there
12:49 those Rock homes
12:49 what is it honey the Ryland Homes thing
12:52 yeah it was right in here check this out
12:56 I've seen photos of that
12:58 I've seen photos of that sign for years
13:00 but never knew exactly where it was
13:03 the ant hill right here should I get
13:05 handheld there but this is where it was
13:06 right here through this whole thing
13:09 that's the trees all right we're now
13:11 pulling on to the property this was the
13:13 original guest Center like the Welcome
13:14 Center where you get guide maps and
13:16 things like that you can definitely tell
13:18 the original architecture here of this
13:21 building which I don't even know if it's
13:22 even used anymore it's like a whole
13:24 housing and apartment condo development
13:26 around here but you can definitely see
13:28 this is dated
13:29 back to the Heritage days
13:32 I mean that just looks like a Welcome
13:34 Center yep
13:36 I mean that parking lot was full all the
13:38 time
13:50 this is the first neighborhood to build
13:50 here
13:51 Dogwood Hills was called something
13:53 different back then this is the original
13:55 houses that were built on property and
13:57 this is where Jim's parents lived you
13:59 know maybe not in this one per se but in
14:01 this in this development through here
14:04 it's called Dogwood Hill and Tall Oaks
14:07 yeah look at this place
14:13 yeah I didn't even know all this was
14:13 back in here either that's awesome these
14:15 are not nice yeah this is nice well
14:18 tucked away back in here oversized
14:20 mailboxes yeah
14:27 but right in here was the original
14:27 and who else lived in here Uncle Henry
14:29 Uncle Henry he was on the show also Ed
14:32 McMahon yes
14:43 but he was awesome super nice guy dude
14:43 made it over to the main area of course
14:45 here is the Tower
14:49 that was never completed
14:51 just sitting here kind of rotting away
14:55 in the middle of the property
14:58 now a lot of the former buildings that
14:59 are here are still being utilized by
15:01 another church
15:03 in fact over here
15:04 we're gonna be walking inside there
15:07 but the Heritage Tower still sits here
15:10 never completed
15:13 huge building
15:16 completely updated you getting your
15:18 bearings now yeah
15:19 yeah because you came out here a lot of
15:20 times back when you were younger yeah so
15:22 you know this area very very well pretty
15:24 pretty well yeah it was like the besides
15:26 one of Carowinds coming here was the
15:28 other spot yeah did you come here when
15:30 it was the theme park yep wow in the
15:32 water park that is amazing
15:39 well I think it's interesting when you
15:39 go in here it reminds me a lot of
15:40 Disneyland's Main Street USA inside the
15:43 building
15:43 not outside inside the old cafeteria
15:47 here the Grand Cafe obviously was
15:49 inspired by the Crystal Palace at Magic
15:52 Kingdom there's a few there you refer to
15:56 it as a pew
15:57 so this is very interesting as you walk
15:59 in here you can definitely tell that Jim
16:02 he's even said in interviews that he
16:04 really wanted to create a disney-esque
16:08 type of place look at this
16:10 they're having a conference over here
16:24 this is amazing
16:26 Jim Kingman had theirs I believe over
16:30 here is where some of the gem and Tammy
16:31 Faye Baker's stuff artifacts are
16:34 so I'm gonna go see if I can get that we
16:36 saw some of the employees outside
16:38 and they told us we could come in here
16:40 but they're having a conference just
16:41 don't disturb the conference over there
16:43 all right so I recently watched the eyes
16:45 of tabby Faye I highly recommend that
16:47 movie the actress that played Tammy Faye
16:49 Bakker did a great job and it really
16:50 kind of puts things in a perspective
16:54 of how Tammy Faye was just such a
16:57 wonderful happy person
16:58 and the story I believe even in their
17:00 son who is a minister now approved of
17:03 the movie now I don't want to put any
17:04 words in his mouth but I think he really
17:06 liked the way it was depicted as well
17:08 here's some photos of how it was back in
17:11 the day it almost looks like kind of Mr
17:13 Toad's Wild Ride there
17:15 you know just some of the history
17:18 that is through here the PTL Network
17:21 there's Jim Tammy Faye there Baker Drive
17:31 all right
17:31 oh there's the doll
17:45 look at that you could buy a Susie mop
17:45 and doll 1985.
17:53 yeah I was showing all the stuff this is
17:55 incredible it's like a little mini
17:57 Museum
18:03 there's Tammy there
18:03 wow keepsakes
18:06 from Heritage USA I just like the fact
18:09 that they still have all this stuff I
18:10 had some kind of partially figured that
18:12 they want a lot of this era to be
18:13 forgotten
18:15 I mean for obvious reasons but yeah
18:21 I still have it there's some of the
18:21 photos The Passion Play photos there
18:32 there's the barn where they would have
18:32 the shows the PTL shows
18:35 oh here's Uncle Henry right here
18:38 we just saw where he lived
18:41 and then the Wendy's this Castle was the
18:43 world's largest Wendy's
18:46 there's the train
18:49 I just love all this history stuff
18:52 you remember when that picture was taken
18:53 yes I remember that I was there you were
18:55 there when that yes
18:57 no kidding nope I was behind the camera
18:59 we had a we had a whole stage and I was
19:01 there in that day
19:03 and I remember that picture was taken
19:04 holy cow that's awesome
19:11 there's no map
19:11 it's hilarious
19:15 and this is in the building we're in
19:16 right now right here there's the
19:18 fountain that's the main building we're
19:20 in yep we should walk together there's
19:22 some shows there
19:23 a lot of those are still on the internet
19:25 you can watch all the Christmas shows
19:27 that Jim and Tammy Faye there doing the
19:28 Christmas shows and all that and you
19:29 attended some of those yes I did and the
19:31 rules were awesome they were from the
19:33 bedrooms
19:34 and where are these in this building
19:36 that's right above us right above us
19:37 above like the little Main Street USA
19:39 area and they're Dino yeah who was Dina
19:41 he was a piano player he was the
19:43 Liberace of Christian music pretty much
19:45 and take a look at this so there is Main
19:48 Street look it actually says Main Street
19:51 right there
19:53 I want one of these shirts look at this
19:55 retro shirt right here oh look at the
19:57 little like lapels I have some at home I
20:00 think you have some of those yeah I can
20:02 send you one if I find it that's awesome
20:05 Yep needs to hand those out popcorn yeah
20:09 this looks like it'd be like a cart yeah
20:11 I mean obviously it's I keep mentioning
20:12 Disney but you can definitely tell there
20:15 was a Disney inspiration for this
20:22 the Main Street trolley
20:22 look at this this is a Main Street USA
20:25 it's like literally Main Street USA
20:27 through here Heritage Transit
20:30 an introduce it but it's all inside did
20:32 you ever buy a hot dog from here Todd
20:34 yes
20:36 yeah look at this it's the re this is
20:39 Club 33 right here
20:42 we call that Easter eggs it's Club 33.
20:45 yep yep the little Easter eggs you have
20:47 to look carefully we'll find something
20:49 so all those rooms are up here
20:54 I mean they were like they went perfect
20:59 incredible
21:00 I'm gonna decorate this like crazy with
21:02 Christmas time you see Garland all over
21:04 so it should be decorating it soon I
21:06 hope so
21:07 am I in Anaheim right now am I in
21:10 Central Florida right now am I at
21:13 Disneyland Paris right now nope
21:15 I'm in South Carolina
21:17 right now
21:20 eerie
21:26 it is so eerily
21:26 like a Disney
21:28 Main Street USA look at this
21:32 I just love this this is so it's wild
21:35 and because there is a conference going
21:37 on down here
21:39 they do have a store if anyone wants to
21:42 buy something
21:43 over here next to this Con while the
21:45 conference center is not in the
21:46 conference well the conference is not in
21:47 this conference center it's at the other
21:48 one or the other end but there's a
21:50 little store here called Goshen
21:53 groceries
21:55 I'm not sure who Goshen was
21:58 one little store open right here 50
22:01 years
22:07 wait I thought it was somewhere else I
22:07 thought it was somewhere else I can tell
22:09 you one thing though you look good in
22:10 that jacket yeah I love it I like it
22:14 I love this Main Street Little Theater
22:19 look at this
22:21 so they would change the coloration of
22:23 the roof yeah the ceiling would be like
22:25 different don't see clouds and one would
22:27 be nighttime
22:29 yeah it kind of has like obviously it
22:32 has the Disney Main Street vibe it also
22:34 kind of reminds me of like inside some
22:35 of the buildings in Vegas yes
22:38 kind of has those indoor Vegas Vibes oh
22:40 what's funny is I think this was before
22:42 Vegas did the inside stuff really this
22:44 is done what year do you think what year
22:46 was this built 84 84 okay so that's
22:49 about right because they started
22:50 enclosing a lot of the whole strip of
22:52 Vegas have you ever been in here before
22:53 this is the first time what do you think
22:55 what's your initial thought walking
22:56 through
22:57 yeah it really is it's hard to seeing
22:59 pictures it's like a Hidden Gem in here
23:03 Jim a Hidden Gem it's a hidden Tammy
23:06 it's a hidden Tammy in here and there
23:08 are people that are Easter eggs here
23:09 there are Easter eggs like the 33 we saw
23:12 you think that's intentional
23:14 I don't I don't know man the only thing
23:16 another thing that didn't stop
23:19 that could have been it yeah true
23:22 the age of Jesus yeah it could be uh
23:25 I like to think it's Club 33. I I think
23:28 probably not but I'm just going to say
23:29 that to be a restaurant up here as well
23:30 and they throw a few times too the grand
23:33 entry
23:34 so where we're going now I don't want to
23:35 disturb their conference but they have
23:37 this is where all the Christmas stuff
23:39 took place over here and you can see a
23:41 lot you can just easily search PTL Club
23:43 Christmas stuff from back in the day and
23:45 see a lot of videos around this corner
23:53 they just need an Emporium in here sweet
23:56 they had their own so this was their
23:57 Suite yeah it was here I don't think it
23:59 was that one I think I'm pretty sure
24:00 look at that door's open that door's a
24:02 jar up there yep
24:04 man so are these still you these rooms
24:06 are still used I think they are for
24:07 conferences right
24:13 you could go down a deep Rabbit Hole
24:13 looking up footage and photos of this
24:14 place in the history of it
24:20 'd be cool to be able to get back inside
24:20 there once again like I said I've
24:23 covered a little bit of this but
24:25 covering some stuff I hadn't done last
24:27 time I was here tonight or 10 months ago
24:28 over here this used to be painted
24:31 all along the side there you can see the
24:32 Heritage Tower off in the distance
24:35 and the famous photo of Jim Baker
24:42 it was ABC news or someone did like a
24:42 whole article on him he was right here
24:44 against this railing sitting right here
24:47 and the bridge is only like a half
24:49 bridge now this is like an original
24:51 building over here and then the water
24:53 park was over there
24:59 and he was Jim Baker was right here
24:59 against this railing probably like right
25:02 more or less and it's just been
25:04 repainted but that's the spot just to
25:05 show for some context here the Gazebo is
25:08 gone now it's all just like a
25:11 it's like a housing developer like
25:13 condos and like apartments and whatnot
25:14 over there across the water you see the
25:16 water slide where Jerry Falwell went
25:20 down the slide
25:27 did you get to witness the Jerry Falwell
25:27 water slide moment I wouldn't hear that
25:29 you were here that died
25:30 that would have been a historic moment
25:32 in PTL history yep
25:37 that's where it used to be the side
25:39 where the house is yeah right over there
25:41 in fact that's the train used to go
25:44 across this bridge and in the movie eyes
25:46 of Tammy Faye Jerry Falwell was played
25:49 by the same guy from Full Metal Jacket
25:52 the the guy from Full Metal Jacket
25:53 played fall well it's a pretty good
25:55 movie
25:56 oh it's a tamifi and that's the original
25:57 building oh we should walk over to the
25:59 world's largest Wendy's that used to be
26:01 right over there in the form of a castle
26:03 we should walk over there okay yeah even
26:04 since the last time I was here they
26:05 haven't really changed too much you can
26:07 see the train track turned that corner
26:09 there
26:10 went right along there
26:13 the remnants of the past theme park
26:15 history this was a very popular theme
26:16 park for the couple years that it was
26:19 very very busy it's said to rival some
26:21 of Disney's numbers as far as crowds
26:23 seems kind of hard to believe but yeah
26:25 it's very busy
26:30 it's full-on Crystal Palace from Magic
26:30 King from Magic Kingdom
26:33 no no no the Wendy's was a little bit
26:34 farther over
26:36 there was a big castle over here that's
26:38 been torn down
26:39 and they put the I don't even know if it
26:41 ever even opened they never completed it
26:43 but it was going to be the world's
26:44 largest Wendy's okay so here is a photo
26:47 of the castle it has since been
26:48 bulldozed but this is what the castle
26:50 looked like and you can see the pillars
26:52 are still here or where the where the
26:54 pillars used to stand on the concrete
26:56 if it only it was still open or it had
26:58 opened so here was the tower we could
27:01 have gone inside here and got ourselves
27:03 a
27:03 junior bacon and just to talk about the
27:06 Disney tie-in once again even though
27:09 technically this is was not they didn't
27:12 quote say that it was inspired by Disney
27:14 World or anything like that the castle
27:17 does resemble you know Sleeping Beauty
27:18 or Cinderella castle that used to sit
27:20 right here my mom has a photo album my
27:23 grandpa who was a minister
27:25 Southern member Minister that came out
27:28 here back when all this was being built
27:30 and my mom has a photo of my grandpa
27:34 standing in front of what my mom assumed
27:36 to be a Disney castle and put it in with
27:38 the Disney World photos when in fact it
27:41 was right here in front of
27:43 this Castle underneath the uncompleted
27:46 Tower kind of wish I had that photo I
27:48 gotta at some point
27:50 I'll try to find that photo of my
27:51 grandpa on my mom's side standing in
27:53 front of this Castle here
27:55 probably back in the early 80s maybe
27:57 yeah mid 80s put some of the tile work
27:59 here and none of this has changed in the
28:01 last year since I was here
28:09 topic of the ground
28:09 is this the last time I was here I kind
28:10 of went down like I said a rabbit hole
28:12 of watching a lot of the old PTL
28:13 telethons and whatnot and they really
28:17 were pushing this Tower very heavily
28:18 almost like a timeshare well it was a
28:21 time share
28:22 of sorts and people did invest in this
28:24 probably a lot of them probably didn't
28:26 get their money back because this thing
28:27 was never completed but the way it was
28:29 going to work is people be able to come
28:31 here a couple times a year and have one
28:33 of these rooms to go to the theme park
28:34 go to the water park ride the train go
28:37 to the Main Street USA all that they'd
28:40 be able to stay right here on property
28:42 but obviously knowing the history of it
28:44 it was never completed and the whole
28:46 thing just fell apart crumbled
28:48 and this thing sits here empty
28:51 all these years later
28:53 this does anyway the other building is
28:55 still being used inside for Morningstar
28:58 Church
28:59 different church now there are people
29:00 who camp out here still and there are
29:02 Apartments obviously so what was over
29:04 here where these apartments were now
29:05 this used to be where there was a roller
29:07 skating rink here there was tennis
29:09 courts here and they had Log Cabin
29:11 shaped vendors stores that were you go
29:15 up a hill and
29:16 gotta go shopping there were a couple
29:18 restaurants there uh as you it was all
29:21 you know just entertainment and there
29:23 was a did you ever use the roller
29:24 skating rink oh yeah and this here I
29:27 remember this last time I was here this
29:28 was an old tram stop right here that is
29:31 now used for propane for the RV but you
29:33 can see that's an old tram stop from the
29:35 Heritage does and where that fence is it
29:37 went straight
29:46 we're now passing where
29:46 we show the original spot that the PTL
29:48 was recorded at
29:50 but over here was a place they called
29:52 The Barn
29:53 and it was right inside there where it
29:56 moved here at Heritage and it is now the
29:58 Antioch International Church it's
30:00 another tram
30:02 stop right there
30:04 you can see a lot of old photos of this
30:06 call you can see how it looks like a
30:07 barn
30:09 that's why they called it it's called
30:10 The Barn or
30:11 the Heritage bar and something Barn
30:14 and Jim and Tammy would enter from this
30:16 area this is where they would walk in
30:17 yeah this is what we would park back
30:19 here all the television people will park
30:20 back here so this is inside the barn
30:24 this is where they had all the stands
30:26 kind of going up at a staircase style
30:28 and the stage was over here
30:30 this is where they did all those PTL
30:32 shows we're kind of noticing too they
30:34 added on this front section to where the
30:36 barn is and I was stating how the seats
30:38 were in there the elevated seats but
30:40 anything that you could find online of
30:42 the show taking place was not really so
30:45 much in the barn portion it was farther
30:47 back over in here so a lot of the
30:49 televised stuff was in like the studio
31:02 yeah okay so last time I was here I
31:03 didn't even peek in this little window
31:04 yep so this is where the main Studio
31:06 entrance was when you walked there and
31:08 there'll be the chairs the seats for you
31:11 and then the
31:12 actual stage and they'd have the Gemma
31:15 Tammy portraits were right here on these
31:16 yep here and they also had some pictures
31:18 where we went earlier for the village
31:23 Heritage Village they'd have them on the
31:25 wall too okay where it all started but
31:26 right through there is where the
31:27 insurance took place you enter here and
31:29 I think on the other side I can't get in
31:31 this section but right through there is
31:33 where the original Sound Stage was
31:44 right through those doors where all the
31:44 chairs were set up in the stage and all
31:47 those episodes took place
31:49 that were recreated in pretty good
31:50 detail on the eyes of Tammy Faye the
31:53 movie we're kind of walking the
31:54 perimeter here it's kind of interesting
31:55 so there's some loading docks over here
31:57 but notice this little doorway up here
32:01 and these individual garage doors over
32:04 here almost
32:05 I could see them pulling their vehicles
32:07 in here so I don't have to go through
32:08 any like this would probably lead into
32:09 the stage area right over here I mean
32:12 look at these garage doors that has to
32:13 be
32:14 what that is
32:17 just very unique individual style garage
32:20 doors here
32:26 fascinating
32:26 and there's a little hidden door over
32:28 here too
32:30 and it kind of works out the fact that
32:31 we're here coincidentally the upper room
32:34 which is not always open
32:36 is open today until 6 PM it's my shadow
32:41 so you'll be able to go inside the upper
32:43 room when I was here
32:44 last time you know nine ten months ago
32:46 could not get up to the upper room it is
32:49 a rarity that is open
32:52 be able to get inside here do we go up
32:53 this
33:01 it's also free stuff day
33:01 take a look at this free stuff done got
33:04 some prayer rooms over here
33:07 this room this is called The Upper Room
33:11 inside this building look at this this
33:13 is awesome and this is an exact replica
33:15 of the last supper table in Jerusalem
33:17 over here next to these like stained
33:19 glass windows so Jim Baker went to Korea
33:21 came back and said those did not have
33:23 prayer room so Jim Becker wanted prayer
33:26 rooms being built here so that's why
33:27 there's prayer rooms it looks like there
33:29 might be someone in there that door's
33:31 shut there this gentleman just informed
33:33 us on the history of why there's prayer
33:34 rooms in this one and here's a photo of
33:36 Pastor Aubry Sarah the first pastor at
33:39 the upper room and there's a lot of
33:41 different articles up here about the
33:42 upper room as well okay it says free
33:44 stuff today I'm definitely going to
33:46 throw throw a little money in the uh in
33:48 the offering donation play because look
33:50 at this this is I'm gonna yeah some of
33:52 the stuff I need like need to have is
33:54 like a souvenirs Jimmy Tammy program
33:57 I'm sure they have like a little it's
33:58 right there yeah a little donation box
34:00 over there yeah that's right because
34:01 this stuff look at this this is vinyl of
34:04 the PTL this is this is vinyl this is
34:06 yeah that's original oh the real deal
34:10 okay yeah you need it yeah I need some
34:13 of this this is but definitely legal
34:14 donations oh yeah 100
34:16 for sure and look at this 10
34:19 to Mother's Day 1991 on VHS
34:23 yeah so I'm gonna go ahead and get one
34:24 of those get one of these here it's free
34:27 stuff dad so that's over there so you're
34:29 building adjacent right to where we were
34:31 over in the barn yep that was the set
34:34 yep one of them
34:36 they change it out yep and the first
34:38 Minister here at the upper room
34:40 Aubry Sarah is laid to rest here passed
34:44 away in 1982
34:47 over here next to the little Memorial
34:48 Garden
34:55 it's so cool like so I've been here
34:55 before out of state I keep reiterating
34:57 that but everything I'm doing today is
34:59 new stuff I wasn't didn't have access to
35:01 before wasn't able to see before so
35:04 pretty awesome okay heading out of the
35:06 property now wanted to show this
35:08 building which is now titled Laura
35:11 Ashley
35:12 this was the original offices
35:15 Jim and Tammy Faye and PTL and a lot of
35:18 the other Executives and whatnot and
35:22 from what Todd was just telling me he's
35:24 very informed
35:25 here on the area because lived here in
35:27 this area his whole life
35:28 and a lot of memories here on site
35:31 that up here was where
35:34 Jim and Tammy Faye's offices were on the
35:37 very tip top
35:38 of this pyramid looking structure
35:49 some planters it's like stepping back in
35:49 time looking down this hallway
35:51 and look at this camera up top here
35:54 look at that Relic right there that like
35:57 screams 80s yes it does something out of
36:00 like an 80s film
36:01 all right back in the Todd Venture
36:03 mobile
36:08 We're stopped here at the light but I
36:09 wanted to focus in
36:10 on downtown Charlotte over there
36:22 kind of hard to disregard it actually
36:22 just right there
36:24 in that motorboat but that's a good
36:25 Skyline
36:27 motorboat yeah in here
36:31 where do you see a motorboat
36:33 oh it's Messiah it's now time for a very
36:37 late lunch well early dinner late lunch
36:40 this place that is recommended called
36:42 Midwood Smokehouse I'm noticing over
36:46 here the salt and pepper and old
36:47 Coca-Cola bottles and this is what we're
36:50 dealing with I went with the burnt tips
36:52 over here there's a little broccoli and
36:54 cheese with a little mac and cheese and
36:57 I went with broccoli and cauliflower as
36:59 well and then they got the burnt tips
37:01 down here and then some like pickles of
37:02 some sort this is like a honey mustard
37:04 is that what she said a honeymoon
37:06 mustard sweet barbecue sweet barbecue
37:08 and you got the chicken and you got the
37:10 uh the Brunswick stew Brunswick steel
37:13 cauliflower and broccoli and then this
37:16 is those are a little Hush Puppies over
37:18 there yeah it says right here the
37:19 Midwood Smokehouse team is full of
37:20 barbecue nerds our expert pit Masters
37:23 stay up all night to tend to our Hickory
37:25 Embers we got the experience there's no
37:27 gas here just true Wood-Fired BBQ I also
37:31 should mention I also got some Hush
37:32 Puppies down here as well I've realized
37:34 I got a lot of cheese so I got the I got
37:37 the broccoli and cheese and then I got
37:39 mac and cheese all right that's gonna do
37:42 it for today gonna end it here
37:44 Midwood Smokehouse it was very good
37:47 I think some rain some precipitation
37:49 might be rolling in
37:51 into the evening hours
37:57 make sure you check out Todd Venture
