0:03 welcome everyone
0:03 adam the woo here
0:05 to beautiful
0:06 no cell phone service area
0:10 next to
0:11 the mountains going through the
0:12 mountains past this river
0:14 in colorado as the recording of this
0:17 monday
0:19 june 20th 2022
0:22 oh it feels so good
0:23 and i am heading to fort collins
0:25 colorado it just so happens to be
0:27 wearing and appropriate t-shirt now even
0:30 though this is wdw there is a main
0:33 street usa
0:36 in florida and magic kingdom
0:39 you know almost a bigger version of the
0:41 disneyland main street usa which
0:44 i've been to marceline missouri walt
0:47 disney's hometown where he took that
0:49 idea
0:51 and also peppered in a little bit of
0:54 fort collins colorado ideas
0:57 i am excited i've never been there i'm
0:59 inviting you
1:01 to join me
1:02 been to marceline
1:04 missouri
1:05 that main street usa
1:07 never been to fort collins
1:09 it's gonna be a good day
1:11 i'm inviting you to join me
1:13 shall you
1:14 this drive through here really is
1:16 something else very beautiful
1:19 right through the middle of the
1:20 mountains
1:21 along the side of this river
1:23 incredible
1:41 there are a couple of sasquatches here
1:41 i wonder if they know what if they're
1:42 friends with big the foot i would
1:44 imagine
1:57 and they have a tower here it says see
1:57 the falls
1:59 free tower see the falls
2:02 go through the store and climb up there
2:04 i can't pass this up colorado has a lot
2:06 of elevation already
2:09 so i'm just adding to
2:11 that elevation by going up these stairs
2:14 it wasn't too bad of a
2:16 little walk up here though
2:18 oh yeah look at that
2:22 waterfall over there in the distance
2:28 to be honest i don't know if i would
2:28 even notice there was waterfalls there
2:29 if i hadn't seen this little lookout
2:31 tower
2:32 i was driving by it
2:34 it's kind of disguised from road level
2:41 you see the water pumping out of the dam
2:41 there too
2:55 pretty neat idea building this tower
2:55 probably gets people into their gift
2:56 shop
2:57 a lot more than
2:59 people just driving by and not stopping
3:00 and i think that was worth a four dollar
3:02 souvenir also i got something to go on
3:05 my fridge
3:06 when i finally get home whenever the
3:07 heck that will be
3:09 been on the road for a while
3:15 i always like magnets it's a nice little
3:15 souvenir so in the fridge made it to
3:18 fort collins now and i felt it
3:19 appropriate to start off here
3:22 with the home located
3:25 off to the side which is where
3:27 the designer harper goff
3:30 lived
3:31 for a few years
3:33 and definitely this area of fort collins
3:36 resonated with him and when he started
3:38 working for the disney corporation
3:39 disney company
3:40 and walt said i'd like some photos of
3:43 places
3:44 to create main street usa and he thought
3:47 of his hometown
3:49 so he returned back here
3:51 and took photos of the downtown area
3:53 here in fort collins colorado
3:59 and the rest is history
3:59 and once i get over to the downtown i'm
4:01 gonna try to match up some of the
4:04 stuff and just see if anything looks
4:05 reminiscent of
4:10 what i know from disneyland or walt
4:10 disney world's main street but this is
4:11 the address 612.
4:19 south house street h-o-w-e-s
4:19 a little piece of disney history here
4:22 harper goff's house
4:24 i have made it now about a mile away
4:27 to the cross streets of college ave and
4:29 mountain lab
4:37 and this isn't going to be one exact
4:37 stretch of road like you would consider
4:39 how marceline has just one
4:42 mainstream kind of like main street usa
4:44 is but just an interpretation of some of
4:47 the buildings that were photographed
4:49 that turned into what we know as
4:51 disneyland and magic kingdom
4:58 where marceline missouri walt's hometown
4:58 is just the one stretcher road
5:00 and this is going to be kind of a
5:02 mishmash of different buildings within
5:03 this old town area on the right off this
5:06 corner and this place is much busier
5:09 than marcelino's
5:11 i am loving the storefronts like this
5:13 jewelers
5:14 place right here
5:21 even some ghost signs still exist like
5:21 owl cigar company
5:24 five cents and while nothing yet
5:26 specifically matches up
5:28 i am getting the vibes
5:34 getting the vibes through here
5:34 see what they were going for i like this
5:36 retro
5:37 northern hotel sign right there
5:40 off the side of the wall
5:47 a lot of these do look very reminiscent
5:47 of what you would see at the parks as
5:50 you enter around
5:52 the historic district now this corner
5:54 looks a lot more kind of like the
5:56 facades
5:57 that i'm looking for and take a look
5:59 there is a starbucks here
6:00 as well yeah you know what just like
6:02 main street i get myself a starbucks why
6:04 not it kind of fits the it's the vibe a
6:07 little bit
6:08 i don't know i just think that's kind of
6:10 cool kind of a neat little tie-in
6:13 yeah right there
6:15 vanilla latte
6:18 the largest
6:21 from starbucks
6:22 and what was one of the two major
6:24 inspirations
6:26 for the subject matter
6:27 just like they have it
6:29 just there's no joffrey there's no
6:31 joffrey's here in town i prefer
6:32 joffrey's but actually disneyland
6:34 doesn't have joffrey's either
6:36 that's only a wdw thing
6:39 i prefer joffrey's over starbucks but
6:41 starbucks works too oh this is pretty
6:42 awesome harper goff has an alley named
6:45 after him
6:47 you know because he was kind of roaming
6:48 around here taking pictures about the
6:50 design
6:51 what now exists and at the end down
6:53 there is a train station
6:55 you know similar to how the train
6:56 stations are
6:58 in the parks harper gough alley
7:01 and over here next to this
7:02 oversized ice cream churn
7:06 that's what that is over there through
7:07 the exchange there is a little mural in
7:09 dedication to the life of harper golf
7:13 what the heck this is awesome
7:15 right here painted on the side of this
7:16 electrical box some of the works was
7:19 done by chris bates
7:21 right there and it just shows
7:24 harper right up top that's kind of a
7:26 neat kind of effect when you go this way
7:28 you can't really tell who it is but then
7:29 when you
7:30 turn around the indentation there and it
7:32 just
7:33 shows his face
7:35 perfectly that's awesome
7:38 oh look down here here's ward kimball
7:40 yes
7:41 i didn't think i was going to see
7:42 anything about ward kibble but there
7:45 there's a ward kimball nod in there as
7:47 well
7:53 i love this kind of stuff
7:53 i'm glad that they honor here him here
7:55 in his hometown
7:56 and they have a little bit
7:58 of a connection to disney i like that
8:00 they do that
8:01 they're embracing that to some degree
8:08 even got frank thomas down there
8:08 walt
8:09 i guess walter speaking from over here
8:11 is to just imagine that there's like a
8:14 force ghost of walt there and then
8:16 harper here they're having a
8:17 conversation so yeah walt is talking to
8:20 harper
8:22 who is in fort collins okay i'm getting
8:24 the reference now definitely getting the
8:26 reference now see if i can see anything
8:28 else on here that's
8:29 oh look at this
8:30 jungle river cruise there's a knot in
8:33 the jaw oh there's the there's the
8:34 jungle jungle cruise boat
8:37 right there it's tough to see
8:39 yeah it's tough there's a jungle cruise
8:40 boat right there about it around his
8:42 neckline where a tie would be
8:50 this thing is full of details i'm sure
8:50 i'm missing a lot
8:52 that i'm not really seeing
8:54 while standing here probably catch it
8:56 later as i'm
8:57 watching this footage back
9:00 let me get a little farther back and get
9:02 a
9:03 kind of across the way a little bit ah
9:05 yes disneyland now i'm catching the
9:07 disneyland right there with the railroad
9:09 going by
9:10 okay yeah i'm starting to see quite a
9:12 few things in here but i'm gonna step
9:13 across the street and just show what it
9:14 looks like from
9:16 across the way standing on the other
9:17 side of the road
9:19 you can just see how tall this is it's
9:20 the entire
9:21 entire you know tallness of the building
9:24 itself
9:26 i like that they did this
9:27 chris bates was the artist and there
9:29 were parking spaces but this place down
9:31 here really is a beehive of activity
9:33 there's a lot of people down here so to
9:35 drive around a bit before i found
9:37 parking so i guess harper gough alley
9:40 would be not through the exchange but
9:42 down this way so i'm gonna i'm gonna i
9:44 gotta walk down in honor of harper goff
9:46 i'm gonna walk down his alley where
9:48 there are some robotic
9:50 look some robotic engineer
9:52 engineering some
9:54 robotic individuals here holding tacos
9:57 with their robotic hands i've been to a
9:59 handful of different alleys that were
10:01 named after different people in in honor
10:03 of different people dave grohlowie is
10:05 one of the first ones that comes with my
10:06 flaming lips alley
10:08 and i've been to harper golf alley now
10:11 using some serious imagination and
10:12 putting his interpretation into my mind
10:14 i don't even know if that's what he was
10:16 thinking but just imagine the castle
10:18 down there where that starbucks is
10:20 and then turning this way
10:22 looking past these buildings so keep in
10:24 mind again castle
10:26 right down there
10:28 again it's just not one stretch of road
10:30 just three or four different streets
10:31 that
10:32 provided photographic
10:40 you know photos and things that
10:40 walt would use
10:42 but azure we'd be exiting you know so
10:44 i'm just kind of imagining i'm exiting
10:46 either one of the parks disneyland or
10:48 wdw
10:49 and you go past the train station
10:51 so
10:53 castle down there of course
10:55 there's real traffic here and then the
10:57 train station here looks a little bit
10:59 different but it's kind of set up the
11:00 same now there are no steps you can't go
11:02 up to the top to get to the train and
11:04 you can't look down
11:06 you cannot look down
11:08 main street there
11:11 for their interpretation of main street
11:13 this is the way you would go out of the
11:14 park underneath one of the tunnels
11:16 either this tunnel or the one on the
11:17 other side i really i really i'm really
11:19 going out on a limb here because there's
11:21 no because there's a limb right there
11:22 there's a tree right there and was not
11:24 certain if there'd still be railroad
11:25 tracks back here
11:27 but there are look there are railroad
11:29 tracks
11:30 back here as well looking over this
11:32 fence line
11:34 an active railroad except
11:36 they must have a new station though
11:37 they're not using this one this is now a
11:39 brazilian steakhouse starting to get the
11:41 feels through here a little bit more
11:43 just because you really are starting to
11:44 see the interpretation of this
11:47 this is something you definitely would
11:48 see
11:49 except here i keep i keep wanting to to
11:52 see the names on the side of the windows
11:56 know up in the windows like walt's
11:57 father
11:58 and other imagineers there are no names
12:00 on these windows and these don't look
12:01 exact
12:03 but i'm definitely
12:05 definitely seeing what they were going
12:07 for
12:08 okay crossing over jefferson now
12:12 on to lyndon there's a theater there
12:15 now called the artery and they're doing
12:17 a lot of construction out here so you
12:18 call this a construction update
12:24 construction update
12:24 what's new
12:26 fort collins
12:28 well they are really doing a lot through
12:29 here
12:30 this is one of the quintessential roads
12:32 that were used and photographed
12:35 that eventually became you know what
12:54 and way down at the end down there is
12:54 that mural of harper golf
13:08 i walk back over here for a minute just
13:08 just in my mind
13:10 i'm picturing lining up
13:12 right along here
13:13 on either side of the street so just
13:15 bear with me for a moment
13:18 don't mind that jackhammer directly
13:19 behind me making some racket
13:22 but just imagine if you will
13:24 lining up here on this side or on that
13:27 side for the main street electrical
13:29 parade it looks just like it
13:32 kind of similar you kind of kind of see
13:33 the dust kind of getting in my eye for
13:35 that jackhammer but yeah i mean
13:37 i cannot be the only one that's feeling
13:39 this
13:39 was it for say well the jackhammer's
13:41 back
13:42 wasn't one road per se it's just the
13:45 entire old town area here in fort
13:47 collins but
13:49 i'm sensing it now in a roundabout way
13:51 this kind of gives me train station
13:53 vibes kind of
13:55 it's a bookstore now
13:58 but first impression of seeing this it
13:59 kind of gives me some train station
14:00 vibes yeah it's really tough not to
14:03 at least acknowledge the fact that this
14:05 is
14:09 i mean
14:09 look at that right there yeah
14:12 come on
14:17 okay this
14:17 i would say this art are architecturally
14:21 is more than marsali but marceline has
14:24 more
14:24 of the disneyland main street vibe
14:27 than the this entire circumference of
14:29 all these blocks
14:31 but architecturally
14:33 using the photos that harper took of
14:36 these streets
14:38 added in with
14:39 the idea that walt had of marceline
14:47 i mean honestly the rest
14:47 the rest is history
14:49 those two places fort collins colorado
14:52 and marceline missouri just waiting for
14:54 the electric light parade to roll
14:55 through here and here's another building
14:57 that kind of strikes the cord as well
14:59 and just like you'd see near a coke
15:01 corner
15:02 there's a piano here there's no there's
15:03 no piano player
15:09 well it's called coke corner in florida
15:09 it was called it disneyland
15:14 where the
15:14 guy will sit and play piano
15:19 there you that's what that reminded me
15:19 of
15:20 corner and over here next to this
15:22 brewery this pub and brewing company
15:25 take a look on the side of the wall here
15:27 you got angel's delicatessen and party
15:29 service but there is a coca-cola mural
15:31 ice-cold
15:33 big king-size coca-cola
15:36 right here on the side of this block
15:37 that is a beautiful building and a nice
15:41 kind of
15:42 well you call that i call that a ghost
15:44 sign someone told me that once it's kind
15:45 of resonated with me a ghost sign and i
15:48 had just mentioned coke corner so it
15:49 kind of works out that this disappeared
15:51 as i turned turned and saw this look at
15:53 this this is a big 12 ounce king size
15:56 ice cold and crossing this crosswalk
15:58 here there are some remnants of the old
16:01 railroad or street car
16:04 stuffs
16:05 going through here you see the brick
16:07 look at this what this is exactly
16:10 like i'm walking down right down the
16:12 middle of main street
16:14 usa
16:16 remnants of the old streetcar was it
16:19 horse drawn carriage streetcar i could
16:21 just picture a horse-drawn
16:23 carriage street car
16:25 going down
16:27 this very road it's been erased from
16:29 existence but it's remnants here and the
16:32 brick
16:33 not cobblestone but brick i guess this
16:35 would be brick not cobblestone
16:37 but that is so dang
16:40 awesome
16:42 remnants of the past i was just looking
16:44 on the fort collins
16:45 website the city website they were
16:47 saying the bank building was also used
16:49 as inspiration
16:50 trying to decide
16:52 what building
16:53 that would have become at the parks all
16:55 right i stand corrected curiosity got
16:58 the best of me i read a couple articles
17:01 about you know some of the buildings and
17:02 what they were inspired by
17:04 and how this made me think of
17:07 the train station in reality this was
17:11 used
17:12 as city hall because this used to be the
17:14 old fort collins city hall and fire
17:17 station the city hall was over here on
17:19 the on the left-hand side of the
17:20 building and where happy lucky's tea
17:22 house was was the firehouse but this
17:25 building built back in 1881
17:27 was
17:29 so they say quite a few different
17:31 sources say that this was the building
17:33 that was modeled for city hall at
17:34 disneyland look at this now i'm seeing
17:37 it from this angle when i was over there
17:39 looking from that corner the first thing
17:41 i thought my first thought
17:43 was that it was the train station that's
17:45 that train station vibe too but now i'm
17:46 seeing city hall 100 city hall
17:49 another old advertisement on the brick
17:51 up there too
17:55 kind of tough to tell what that says i
17:55 thought it'd be kind of cool to get a
17:57 haircut
17:58 down here at the inspiration you know
18:01 yeah i've never gotten a haircut at
18:02 magic kingdom which is on my bucket list
18:04 to do too one day i want to get i don't
18:06 say bucket list but it's all my things
18:07 to do i like to get a haircut get a
18:09 haircut at
18:12 magic kingdom
18:13 right next to the fire station and all
18:15 that i thought it'd be kind of neat to
18:16 get one here in fort collins because i
18:18 do need a haircut except mccarty's
18:20 barber shop
18:22 is closed also this commercial bank and
18:25 trust company building
18:27 it's pretty awesome look at the
18:28 architecture on this it's now called the
18:30 high point bar
18:36 there used to be a bank at disneyland
18:36 true story bank of america
18:39 it's now like a merchandise shop and
18:40 here's another barber shop but they as a
18:43 recording of this it's a monday
18:45 closed on mondays
18:47 sad trombone decided i want to cover
18:49 some serious ground today so getting on
18:51 interstate 25 north
18:54 going to try to cover a lot of ground
18:57 crossing over the state line to wyoming
18:59 now
18:59 but probably gonna cross another state
19:02 line after wyoming i'm just gonna see
19:04 how far i can get and not really stop
19:05 too much
19:07 try to make up some miles get northbound
19:39 60 mile per hour wind gusts
19:39 on the interstate pulled off here at
19:41 this rest stop
19:43 look at the flags up there they are just
19:45 gusting in the wind
20:22 okay i'm noticing this across the road
20:22 says all entrances are closed to
20:25 yellowstone park
20:27 because of the flooding they've been
20:28 having i wasn't going to yellowstone
20:31 but it's very interesting that it's
20:34 still closed
20:35 all the entrances are closed
20:43 and there might be animals
20:43 out here as well leaping across
20:45 the road
20:47 we gotta watch for those two
20:49 stopped off here at locomotive park in
20:52 douglas
20:53 wyoming and yes there are some
20:54 impressive trains here
20:57 but there's also something
21:00 not equally impressive but pretty dang
21:02 impressive
21:05 jackalope
21:06 junction
21:09 there is a ginormous jackalope now i do
21:12 not know
21:13 if dave coyer has ever been to the
21:15 self-proclaimed
21:17 jackalope capital of the world
21:22 but i feel like he would enjoy it
21:22 because he voiced the jackalope on
21:25 america's funniest people back in the
21:26 day that's how i remember dave coulier a
21:29 lot of people remember from full house
21:30 but
21:32 fast as fast can be
21:34 you'll never catch me
21:37 that was a bad impression oh and that's
21:39 not the only one
21:42 this place has a multitude
21:47 of the famed jackalope
21:53 how's it going jackalope holy cow look
21:53 at that saloon and what the heck went
21:55 ahead and decided to stop for gas saw a
21:58 sign that said
21:59 going on to highway 94
22:02 there will be no fuel for the next 75
22:04 miles so the grassland market
22:07 is where i'm stopping off at
22:09 fueling up at 4.70
22:12 a gallon
22:13 and this is a nice bonus i'm gonna go
22:16 inside and get myself a free jackalope
22:18 sticker
22:24 yes i may have misspoke with whatever
22:24 highway it was i thought i was getting
22:26 on
22:27 in reality i'm on highway 59.
