0:21 some misconceptions today in this video

0:24 on one of the filming locations from the

0:27 1987 classic The Lost Boys the majority

0:32 of the internet assumes that the bridge

0:35 that they dangled from that iconic scene

0:39 from the movie was up in Santa Cruz next

0:43 to the boardwalk where the pretty good

0:46 chunk of the exteriors were shot but

0:50 it's not way up there in Northern

0:52 California it's down here and SoCal

4:36 background on that hill

4:38 those telephone poles can be seen very

4:42 faintly but they're back there and while

4:44 it is quite a ways down to the dry

4:47 riverbed the thought of them actually

4:51 jumping off of this point is pretty

4:54 scary now they built something upward to

4:56 protect the actor so they didn't have to

4:58 leap too far and it does seem very steep

5:01 but in the movie it seems a heck of a

5:05 lot taller and farther drop because they

5:08 added in some smoke and fog elements

5:10 below the bridge a few close-up shots

5:13 were filmed on a soundstage that

5:15 basically took this recreated it

5:17 you know just close-up versions inside a

5:20 building so you can see those intercut

5:22 into the scene as well after climbing

5:24 down that ladder and walking along the

5:27 scaffolding shows a better angle of the

5:32 height on the ground

5:36 to the bottom of the structure yeah not

5:39 a good idea to hang from that in real

5:43 life especially with no water down there

5:46 the only thing to catch it would be the

5:49 hard surface of the earth floor I see

5:52 that look in your eyes Michael don't

5:54 even think about it you're not one of

5:56 them you're not one of them stay up here

6:06 in all honesty the best angle would be

6:08 at the bottom of that basin the climb

6:32 way the metal underneath the bridge is

6:50 and kind of stretches along that way so

7:07 to underneath the bridge the way those

7:11 cross beams are that X not only does it

7:17 mark the spots but also where they were

7:20 hanging now look at the top left of your

7:24 screen there's that wrench type piece I

7:27 was trying to describe not a good

7:29 description but kind of understand what

7:32 and there's that arrow see the tip of

7:38 the metal arrow

7:41 so that's where they were camera was

7:44 right here pointing upward like I am and

7:47 a trained real train went above them and

7:51 tried to jar them loose from their grips

7:54 that's freaking cool it's been removed

7:57 since production but they added a couple

8:01 other skinnier bars for them to place

8:04 their hands on and they added harnesses

8:09 just to keep them from falling because

8:12 you don't want the five actors or most

8:14 likely these were stuntmen you don't

8:17 want anyone on the cast or crew falling

8:21 down to the ground level from way up

8:24 there that would not be good

8:53 very clever camera angles and probably

8:53 another good reason to have all that fog

8:55 she don't want that amusement park

8:58 in the background kind of ruins the

9:03 illusion but it's back there in real

9:06 life it's back there so is the freeway

9:11 still the traffic going by looks like

9:14 the Frog brothers have been down here

9:16 always coming up with ingenuitive new

9:19 ways to catch those creatures of the

9:23 evening I've never seen this one before

9:27 but I guess a noose could do the trick

9:37 bridge go get them guys I trust you I

9:43 don't know what I was so worried about

9:44 they're obviously not sleeping anywhere

9:46 in this close proximity I haven't seen

9:49 any barking protective horror hounds

9:58 I think that's how you know where they

9:58 could be slumbering because the dogs
