0:15 today's adventure takes us off the
0:15 beaten path the backroads of Central
0:18 Florida enroute to a location that's on
0:22 the National Registry of historical
0:24 places and in recent days has fallen on
0:28 tough times
0:37 welcome everyone Adams and Wu here
0:37 subject matter at hand is a place by the
0:40 name of the Desert Inn which has been in
0:43 existence over a century at some cross
0:47 streets basically out in the middle of
0:49 nowhere an hour or so from any other
0:52 great civilization or populated area and
0:56 I'm making the trek to see with my own
0:58 eyes what happened the other evening
1:01 when a truck driver steered off-course
1:05 through the light and demolished the
1:08 entire front portion of the facade the
1:12 building has collapsed judging by
1:14 pictures that I've seen but I have not
1:17 noticed any video that's what I'm doing
1:21 I'm inviting you
1:25 to join me
1:27 shalyah this does not look good
2:23 these premises are declared unsafe by
2:23 the Osceola County Building Department
2:38 notice that truck that just went by one
2:38 similar to that one is what caused this
2:49 it is a very busy intersection all the
2:49 times I paved this place a visit I
2:52 always thought that there was a chance
2:55 this could happen being so close to the
2:58 crossroads right up in that room was
3:04 what some said to be the most haunted
3:07 area of the establishment if you do some
3:11 research you will find that quite a few
3:15 people believe so
3:18 what a deep history
3:36 this place has a rich documented past
3:37 one that has come to an end most likely
3:41 this will be bulldozed see how all the
3:45 18-wheelers just go to and fro just a
3:48 stone's throw from the front of this
3:51 facade right up on the side of the wall
3:55 is another one of those plaques
3:58 documenting the National Register of
4:00 historical places
4:20 yee-haw junction was not always the name
4:20 for this place in this neck of the woods
4:23 there's this original name there's no
4:28 trespassing sign you see here on the
4:30 door has been posted for many many years
4:33 even before all of this destruction
4:42 and what shipped over this piece of wood
4:42 almost stumbled pieces up the the
4:47 building just kind of strewn around
4:57 very sad to see history demolished as so
4:57 and just laying here for all to see what
4:59 was once inside the building is now
5:02 outside this chair some of the window
5:07 dressings and drapes part of the couch I
5:18 was right up there that open window
5:18 the bordello room as they called it
5:26 many years ago when it was open for
5:26 business it's sad abandoned for quite
5:28 some time but prior to that it was
5:31 accessible and I rented a room around
5:34 the back of the property and the owner
5:36 at that time let me wander around and I
5:40 walked all through that area right up
5:44 there which most of it has fallen here
5:49 onto the pavement and underneath the
5:51 awning itself right here was a fence
5:54 you'd see part of it over here and a
5:57 little picnic area that led into the
6:00 restaurant in the diner over that
6:02 direction founded as a trading post back
6:05 in the late 1880s the present building
6:08 dates before 1925
6:16 those walls could talk it seen some
6:16 things
6:26 some of the antiques that were in the
6:26 courtyard area are strewn around as well
6:45 see the mattress and the box springs of
6:45 that bed kind of tucked away there in
6:47 the shadows this entire section
6:53 stayed intact and just fell straight
6:55 down the truck could have been right
7:00 right in there there just darted
7:03 straight in what really drives the point
7:06 home and gets to me is the neon from
7:12 that classic signage that seen in so
7:15 many photos and in person over the years
7:21 you zoom in just a little bit you can
7:21 see
7:22 you can see it right there
7:35 cowboy painted on the side of the wall
7:35 there
7:37 holding some signage saying entrance
7:40 come on in partners except for not
7:43 allowed broken glass and police do not
7:47 cross caution tape
7:50 and doors completely busted out and it's
7:54 for good reason it's all taped off kind
7:57 of peek in just a bit see the damage it
8:00 is not structurally sound nor safe to
8:05 say the least
8:10 all the wreckage
8:10 back in there the entire the entire
8:14 section above has fallen into the former
8:18 restaurant area
9:39 he's always remind me of accommodations
9:42 at Norman Bates with Brett out
9:46 they are unattached from the main
9:47 building
9:50 about 20 yards or so behind that front
9:54 front section a few items have even been
10:04 moved back here
10:16 that's where they were it kind of
10:16 shifted I'm sure even more of that will
10:19 take place over the next coming days and
10:22 weeks
10:23 and who knows in the near future none of
10:27 this might exist anymore
11:29 he didn't know any better you'd swear a
11:29 tornado hit this thing
11:38 the real question is what happens to a
11:38 building that's on the National Registry
11:40 of historical places when it is no
11:43 longer able to be salvaged will the sign
11:47 remain even though everything else could
11:50 possibly be gone if you look closely
11:55 faintly the Sun is beaming
11:59 on that woman on the balcony waving
12:04 paint has faded just a bit
12:07 you can still see her if you look
12:09 closely
13:13 looks like the salvagers have already
13:13 or he arrives
13:33 I however I'm not going to set foot
13:33 indoors there are others out here
13:37 admiring and
13:43 doing things in their own way some of
13:43 the locals you have a lot of memories
13:44 here
13:46 I'm gonna keep my distance
13:54 at least as much as possible
13:54 it is not safe in that what I was just
13:57 showing through that broken door is
13:59 directly below all this I think a stiff
14:05 wind would
14:07 make that take a tumble so not the best
14:10 option to be underneath it
14:23 it is kind of amazing how desolate this
14:23 region is but the light is extremely
14:27 backed up in that direction there is
14:30 also a couple news organizations have
14:33 arrives in a very interesting twist
14:36 an 18-wheeler down the way has been
14:39 pulled over you can see the police
14:41 officers lights
14:53 seeing they're off in the distance come
14:53 to think of it this might be my last
14:55 view of this classic Central Florida
14:58 landmark upon future returns it might
15:03 not be here
15:34 probably letting you know your order
15:34 would have been ready it's a little
15:37 gusty out here I would not be in total
15:39 shock if this whole thing just collapsed
15:41 all of a sudden
15:49 I keep staring at that one piece of the
15:49 top left of your screen hanging on for
15:52 dear life by a couple nails or splinters
16:02 old strongboard
16:02 totally unrelated but the mailbox way
16:06 back here has also been cast out and
16:09 fallen brewed it up from the ground you
16:11 can just see it's buckled termites might
16:16 have got ahold of that one
16:28 it is a constant flow not only traffic
16:28 but people stopping off to take a gander
16:37 and maybe even some souvenirs counted
16:37 about a dozen so far and while that is
16:40 not my forte if this was your watering
16:42 hole and you had plenty of memories here
16:44 and this ends up in the trash somewhere
16:48 or a dump site I can see the appeal
16:53 I just had a conversation with a local
16:56 lady didn't want to be on camera but
16:58 state as she has been coming here for 28
17:00 years the last couple it's sad empty but
17:03 prior to that it's had a few owners and
17:05 back in the day this was the best place
17:08 to eat anywhere around these parts for
17:12 miles and miles it will definitely be
17:14 missed she went on to say that she's
17:16 pretty confident bulldozers would come
17:18 in and take care of the rest of it in
17:21 the very near future this will be the
17:25 final documentation
17:27 for posterity I visited when it was open
17:33 ate a meal inside the restaurant stayed
17:36 back in the cabins and now this is my
17:39 goodbye
19:48 the path of the truck was this direction
19:48 if you notice over here to the side of
19:51 these little pylons made to stop a
19:52 normal sized car I don't even think
19:55 those would have helped I could be wrong
19:57 but if they were even over just a little
20:01 bit
20:02 I believe these concrete pillars
20:07 at full force high speeds
20:11 the truck coming through and probably
20:14 would have taken them out and still
20:15 still gone right towards the building
20:38 that's gonna do it for today if you're
20:38 new here please subscribe by doing so it
20:41 helps keep you in the loop and
20:42 up-to-date on future uploads here on
